you didn't know any different.... I remember as a child i would be in our outdoor, unheated pool (UK) as soon as there was a glimmer of sun in the sky and my mother would have to drag our blue bodies out..... we loved it. Remember all the white tattooed men? Glimpse of sun and their tops are off! What happened to all the white non tattooed men?? Did they keep their tops on :)

My DH was just informed by his employer that AD government has change the rules with immediate effect....and no-one (so not just government employees) with an AD work visa can renew their visa anymore whilst having a tenancy contract in Dubai. So every employee looking at renewing their visa whilst living in Dubai will have a problem :( His employer is trying to negotiate with government, but in meantime they are trying to process all visas up for renewal (like the one for our maid) this week. So if your work will change your visa to AD you might be looking at moving there instead of having the choice of commuting. Blimey, I guess it was bound to happen. I hope you manage to get your visas sorted out in time.

Well I just got offered the job today as expected and am waiting for the offer letter. To be honest the package is 25% better and I get to stay in Dubai and not do the commute. A change is as good as a rest they say!!

Yes although ladies clothing is not the best I ordered a dress from Oasis that was 10 GBP in the online sale and here it is 560AED! That's outrageous!!!!

According to some potential new rules, you may have no choice (all AD employees must live in AD)...currently, this is only being enforced for the public sector, but it could change. Thanks, yes I am aware of this. Question was. Would your office move to AD make you leave a seek alternative employmemt??? I was answering your question about communiting... It would depend on what AD was offering...cost of living there is higher. I guess and also what the new job offer entails too.

I remember in the contract it states something about informing the LL if you leave the country for a certain amout of time or something like that. I most certainly would not want my LL to have a spare key andI certainly wouldn't tell him when I was away on holiday, I mean you only have to do the maths on this one!!

Um, well he didn't come on until just before 9pm. There was a warm up comedian for 30 mins then a 30 min break. Think it finished at 11ish.

I was in the AED600 seating last night. Seats were good, could see him clearly on stage and also had a good view of the screen behind him as well. No complaints about the seating. As for his jokes though??

Dear Ladies I have visitors over at the moment and I am trying to arrange a desert tour for them but without the touristy belly dancers, henna etc etc. Does anyone know of a company that just does 4 x 4 tours in the desert for the day, maybe a spot of lunch and then will drop you back. Many thanks.

I thought there was a really good place on the beach road where the fishermen came back and sold the fish at the side of the road and then a little cafe style place cooked them. Can't remember the name of the place or the location but if someone else reads this then maybe they may know.

It is so weird to read this. I know that Dubai is relatively new and yes the place has changed significantly over the years. But really, I read this and it's like they are still in the dark ages!! And the assistant Dean saying that not too long ago it was acceptable for a man to cheat on a woman & that it wasn't the end of the world!!! Well now the Western world has had a huge effect on this country and Dubai is not as it was anymore... it's very quickly coming up to the present day inline with Europe and America. Well in a few areas anyway, I still think there is a fair way to go yet.

Yes and I have reported it to the police when it happened to me a few years ago. They take it very seriously and they called the number back and spoke to the man. Told him not to call me again & he didn't. Kinda wished he had as I wanted him to get into trouble but at least the phone calls stopped. I was getting around 50 calls a day, it was so bad that my battery was constantly on charged. In the end I put my phone on silent and went to the police. Showed them the call history from the number.

Zoflora, I had forgotten about that stuff. Going to stock up on a bucket load and be prepared. Never had the cooking smells through the air vents but I know that my neighbor has, I guess I have that treat to come.

Does anyone live here and if so have you noticed any bad smells coming from the drains in your bathroom??? I have a stake water smell coming from the drain & I have flushed with bleach & drain de glogger stuff and still there is a musky smell. Weird thing is, it doesn't smell every day. Any ideas?

I totally agree, and I think it is because some females allow themselves to be treated with no respect. Therefore the man becomes conditioned to thinking that they can treat you in that way. You only have to go to certain bars & clubs to see women drunk with everything hanging out and men on the hunt, it's like a meat market.

AmyAus82 - I can not agree with your post. "How can I be picky"?? Unfortunately you do not know the circumstances and have leapt to your own judgement. That is my mistake as I have not been explicit. And janatks - I can not agree with you either. I would certainly never end a relationship on my partners choice of friends, that would be very very shallow. I was just asking a straight forward question - "Where are all the decent single men in Dubai"? Dubai is a transient city where people seem to stay for a short time and often seem to come here as they are running away from something. I, as a successful professional female am finding it ever impossible to meet a like minded guy that has good values, a good job and is honest & committed. But yes, it is hard and yes I have an extremely open mind :)

SH12 - if you are planning on selling it, would you mind sharing the size and other details. I know people who would be interested in getting a diamond from a reputable place like Tiffanys. Do you have any paperwork for it? TIA The size of the ring is a J size and it is a CIRCLET PLATINUM DIAMOND WEDDING ENGAGEMENT RING‏. It has 3 diamons in a row and around each one of these diamonds is also a circle of diamonds. I do not have any paperwork as I didn't buy it. Just spoke toTiffany's and they can not accept a refund as I don't have the receipt. Let me know if you want anymore details.

And I must be the second sister Auntie McMoany II I had to move away from the marina fir exactly the reasons you stated. The party boats, the beeping traffic etc etc It wasn't just happening at weekends anyone it was more or less every night. Now I am far away from traffic and noise and have realized how great it is to sleep the whole night through without getting woken at 3am
