Mrsb, I am being forced to leave my villa and unfortunately can't afford another place with a garden. Is there any chance that you have room for 2 more hens? My girls need a forever loving home! I hope you can help.

i am an employer, and would really advise people not to get into court. Always try try try your best to get it sorted out of court, or even accept a lower pay out. The case will drag on for years, and during that time you are not allowed to work, NO body will hire you, as you dont have clear papers. However, the company/CEO will go on functioning as normal. I have had to turn down some great candidates who interviewed, as they simply were not free of the case, and therefore unable to commit. i think I have tried long enough to get it settled out of court !!!, did find this article You can actually get a temp. work permit if you have a court case http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/employment/workers-with-court-cases-can-work-1.501542 Will your current employer cancel your labor card or visa? To temp you have to be sponsored by Father or Spouse you cannot temp if on visit visa or employment visa from a previous company as this is illegal and all employers know this plus you do not want to start off on the wrong foot with another company after all you have been through I am referring to a temporary working permit issued by MoL while court case in progress, for people who are stuck in similar situation. Did you read the article? edited by shabbydiva on 21/04/2013

I have had to turn down some great candidates who interviewed, as they simply were not free of the case, and therefore unable to commit. This is not true . Of course its better to get it sorted out of court but this usually doesn't work out in most scenarios . My friend was in a similar situation to yours Shabbydiva . She approached labour and discussed the case , said employer wasn't cancelling her visa to work somewhere else nor were they paying her the money they owed her .She also submitted the offer letter from the company that was willing to hire her . They sent a notice to the employer for attending a meeting to see if they could sort it out in the presence of the labour officer ,which didn't happen and she said she wants to take them to court . They asked the employer to cancel the visa so that she can apply for the new one with the new company and the monetary issue is now being assessed in court . The idea I think is to make sure your next employer knows about this and supports this as they re the ones who sort out the new visa ,labour card etc . I don't know if this made any sense as its just second hand information that I have but I do know it is DEFINITELY possible to work during the case period . Thank you for the input tomatosoup, did make sense :) hope your friend gets it resolved soon. Do you know what she needed to take with her for her first time going to Labour court? edited by shabbydiva on 21/04/2013

Thanks A&C but I need about 10 for centrepieces. Been trying to locate some but cannot find any anywhere (unless I pay 200dhs per piece which is crazy!) If you have any ideas, let me know. Otherwise it will be an ebay purchase and I suspect I will pay more in shipping than the actual cages lol! What size are you looking for? I do have a bunch of birdcages, shabby chic white, each one is little bit different than the next. Oooh - I need them as table centrepieces, wouldn't mind if they are all a little different as long as they are basically quite similar (white shabby chic style). So I would say medium size, around 30-40cms in height. Are you willing to sell / lend? TIA! i can show you what I have been working on recently, i can send you some pictures if you like. edited by shabbydiva on 21/04/2013

SD my friend took her employer to court for the exact same thing. She employed one of those no-win no-fee lawyers with an excellent reputation. Her company kept stalling - not turning up to hearings or providing info requested. It dragged on for over a year and she won the case, and was awarded a significant sum. I think the lawyer took about 30%. She appealed tho as it wasn't the correct amount and was awarded a further amount - this took more than 1 yr again! Things move slowly so I would open a case but carry on with your life and not expect anything for at least a year. Shame on this company, disgusting. Thank you for the advice, do you know if I can start new work even without cancelling old labour card? edited by shabbydiva on 21/04/2013

Sorry you are in this situation. This happened to my brother and he started the court proceedings with a lawyer over 3 years ago, Jan 2010. The case has only now received final judgement with all appeals and obviously granted in my brothers favor. If you are going to do this, know it will take a lot of time and money from your end. If there is any way you can avoid court and come to agreement with your employer to pay the money in installments back to you, I would advise that. When he started the proceedings we NEVER thought it would take along as it did. Good luck. Also want to add my brother had one of the best local lawyers too so things moved as efficiently as they could in this situation. May I ask if his company disputed the amount or was it a matter of the company just didn't have the money?

IT's not about being fortunate or not; i am not able to work for free - i need to get paid or i can't pay rent, DEWA or eat. I work for money; the only reason - if an employer can not meet the basic needs of paying me; i am not going to work - and it actually costs you money to go to work; i would be spending that time looking for another job. To cancel a labour card you need to sign to say that you have recieved all your dues! I have been managing on savings and a loan. I have a new job lined up, I just need advice on how I can get what is owed to me by this company, I just want this to be over with so that I can go back to a regular job and income!

I'm curious, why did you carry on working for your employer after they had missed the second salary? Because unfortunatly I'm too gullible, too many promises made by the CEO, and it was more like 3 months no pay, then get a little, 2 months no pay then get a little more. And because its a job that is very close to my heart, I worked for a wildlife conservation program and I loved my job and stayed with it because I cared about the animals I worked with and always was hopeful of it turning around, but just turned out to be a big lie :( I also imagine they promised they would pay your salary and if you left it would be harder to try and get it. I hear of this alot now. More like threats of I wouldn't get anything if I left :(

depending on the age of the dog, they can hold their bladder 1 hr per yr old (so 6 month old = 30 minutes, 1 yr = 1 hour etc.) The best is to take the dog out as soon as you wake up, before you go to bed and straight after each meal, into the garden and say the verbal command that you want to associate with the behaviour so "go pee" for number 1 & 2 (try not to confuse her, by giving different commands for each) and stay with the same command, same tone (relaxed, firm but friendly) if that makes sense lol and you must be patient, you should stay outside and watch her, if she is wants to play, just repeat command (same tone) ignore her playing attempts, as soon as she goes potty repeat command and follow by praise. I have trainned many dogs, it does depend on the age, attention span, temprement of the dog, but with all training its about consistency on your behalf. number 2 usually once they wake up and right after a big meal number 1 depends on the age. I hope this helps. good luck

Morning ladies, I need some advice. I have not been paid by my employer for 6 months. I have resigned and gone to MoL 3 times (as the PRO keeps saying they need more time, company doesnt have the money) I have grown sick of this, so on the last meeting at the Labour Dep. the lady asked what I wanted to do, and I said take him to court) So she didnt give me much advice, she said that I should go back to MoL on Monday, to collect papers and then go to Labour Court. Has anyone done this before, and if so could you tell me the proceedure. and how long before I can expect to see my money, and what would happen if the company doesnt have the money? Sooo many questions, I can't sleep at night Any advice would be more than appreciated.

I am going to suggest something, but ladies take it easy on me, have a look at the program before the execution start :) lol You say he has other great lovely qualities and you dont like nagging! Have you seen a show called "how to train your husband"? Its all about positive reinforcement! ignore the bad behaviour and reward the good behaviour. So lets say its thursday evening and you want to plan Friday's lunch. You snuggle up to him on the couch and say "my dear, do you know what I would really love and apreciate it, IF we could go to restaurant X!" if you get any positive response, even if is a "i'll think about it" offer a reward, a kiss followed by his favourite treat (sandwich, cuddle) and reinforce what would make you happy even can follow it up by "next week we can do whatever you would like" (comprimise!) This has proven to work like a gem. If you get a negative response you should stay calm, sweet repeat what would make you happy and ignore grunts, huffs and puffs! training takes time, but if he realizes this is not a battle that he must WIN WIN WIN, but gets rewarded for doing something for you, you might be able to change his ways without the nagging! Men feel like they are attacked when women nag, and if he is stuck in this mode... nag.. attack WIN.. then you might want to change your strategy..! Just a thought :) edited by shabbydiva on 20/04/2013

(might have been too harsh, but as you can see I do ramble on) now thats out, my hubby won't have it directed to him :) This is a good place to get things off your chest or just get a few tips ! Glad to hear that your surgery went well and that you are fighting fit! and WELCOME to the site :)

I am against buying certain breeds... now lets have a look at the 1 of the 2 breeds that montykool is looking at buying Havanese: common problems associated with this breed of dog (even the best "specimen" can suffer) -Hip Dysplasia -Elbow Dysplasia -Chondrodysplasia -Legg-Perthes Disease -Cataracts -Deafness -Patellar Luxation -Portosystemic Shunt -Heart Murmur -Mitral Valve Insufficiency I could go onto next breed she is looking at buying.. but I won't ! If you are buying a dog as a statement piece, like a new car or a handbag.. then I understand, dont agree but I understand. If you are looking for a new member of the family, then pass by a shelter and try not to get smittened by at least 1 of the many dogs that they have in line to be put down! I can assure you a "mongrel" or a "mut" will cost you significantly less vet bills and can be as rewarding as a "pure bred" "pedigreed" dog! edited by shabbydiva on 15/04/2013

Where did you buy your chicks from? I did not buy chicks, I rescued 2 young female chickens from someone who wasn't taking good care of them. Chicks need a lot of attention and care, if you are looking at adopting a chicken you can contact Posh Paws / Animal Sanctuary and they would be able to help you. I would strongly recommend against buying a chick! they need their mother hens :)

I have chickens and they don't seem to be bothered with the summer heat. I have a nice insulated house for them but they use it not to sit on their eggs or when it rains or sandstorms. Otherwise they sleep sitting on top. I think if you live in close quarters to westerners who are perhaps not used to the noise of a rooster, you should only keep hens although they can also make a racket if they wish to. My rooster makes a racket at all hours - he is a bit confused, poor boy. But he is handsome so we put up with his silliness. Ask your neighbours if they mind if you kept chickens and if not, go for it. Fresh eggs every day are great!!!!!! They are fun!!!!!! oooh! any chance my hens can come visit for a while, I would love some chicks but can't get a rooster.. too noisy for this area ;) Of courseYou are very welcome - perhaps I should start a stud!!!!!! My DD enjoys the babies and it is fun to see the entire process. How many fertilised eggs were you considering????? I think on average, a hen lays around 25-30 before starting to sit. oooh, lovely! I would love to have 2 or 3 chicks, because I dont think I would be able to keep more than (5 total) without having to extend chicken coup, but I know thats impossible to control, my hens can only mange to get 10 eggs under them, they are on the smaller side. (lovely local hens) How long do you think they need to be with your stud before they start laying fertile eggs? I'm excited

HI ladies, Just wondering what is the obsession with wanting a pure bread dog? I understand that different breeds have difference characteristics, but when considering all the risks associated with inbreeding, even when buying from a reputable breeding organization cannot compare with the benefits of having a mixed breed! There are so many abandoned animals in this country, you must believe that you will be able to save money, rescue a life and have an animal that has not suffered the consequences of being inbred! I understand the reasoning behind, if you rescue a mutt you might end up with an animal that has aggressive genes, but they are all individuals. Why not get a mixed breed, they suffer less genetically inbred diseases, are more able to withstand the harsher climates of the UAE and can be as much joy as any dog that you could get from a reputable breeder! I know I might sound like a stereotypical “animal activist” but why not voice my opinion! It might explain more if I say I have studied canine studies, animal behavior and wildlife conservation, have trained all types of “violent” dogs! It’s all in the training and the trainer not the dog! I also have also owned rescued dogs, and they have brought me nothing but joy! Once again I might be biased, but I just felt like I needed to voice my opinion, even if it gets lots of negative remarks, I hope at least one of you decide to look into rehoming an animal, instead of buying a pure bred one. No offence meant!
