http://www.babybay.de/ This is what is recommended in Germany. It's brilliant and a good compromise between cosleeping and having baby in their own bed. I desperately wanted to get one like this when I first moved to Dubai but couldn't find it anywhere. So I settled for a moses basket right next to my bed. That way I could just reach over and grab DD when she wanted to be fed. I had her close by but without the risk of rolling over her. A friend of mine modified an IKEA crib and attached it to her bed same way as the "Baby Bay". Worked great for her and LO. I got a similar cot from babyshop and put it between wall and our bed and removed the side next to the bed. DS sleeps in that now :) And with the sale nowm u can get a cot for around AED500 <em>edited by shaf on 23/01/2011</em>

I All u really need is a pair of working boobs, diapers and some sleep suits and you are set to go. Everything else really depends on lifestyle and as and when required :) Well thats my opinion!:) It's nice to see lists of things you may need, I personally cannot stand things to be wasted and I didn't want to buy anything that I wouldn't use, so I agree with the above sentiment. It is very exciting to look though and it's all part of the anticipation of baby's arrival. Yup! Very exciting! I have baby 2 due next month, and its quite difficult not to buy everything u see! :D But I still believe very strongly in co-sleeping. My DH almost rolled over DS when he was just born.. and we had to keep pillows betwen him and DS inititally. But its such pure joy to cuddle up to baby at night and sleep. And to see him/her awake first thing in the morning. And yes, the father maybe a risk to the newborn in bed, but its impoosible for the mother to harm her newborn in bed unless she is drunk or something. Heck! A new mother wakes up if she hears a cat mewing thinkings its her baby! :) And yes, we are having a bit of a tough time moving DS to the cot, but its happening and we wouldnt change the past few months of co-sleeping by having trained him earlier. And mothers lose less sleep when the baby is sleeping next to her. Stick the boob in at night and u both get to sleep. Anyways, wat I always tell new mothers, google has no kids, but it has a lot of research material available. Read read read and do what is best for you and your baby. And dont lose precious moments for a few bits of sleep :)

I am sure you meant well Glitter, but sorry, i dont agree with the list. U dont need a crib/moses, etc. Its lists like this that discourage co-sleeping. Cant understand why baby cant sleep in the bed with the parents. And no, not everyone needs a breast pump, or bottles or sterilizers. For someone on a budget, this list isnt useful. I am not even sure what a top&tail bowl is! All u really need is a pair of working boobs, diapers and some sleep suits and you are set to go. Everything else really depends on lifestyle and as and when required :) Well thats my opinion!:)

Car seats are definitely cheaper - ours was GBP95 over there and almost Dh1000 here. And don't worry about knowing if it's a boy or a girl if you don't want to. Everywhere does white! Actually I found Carseats cheaper here. I bought a Chicco for arnd 800 which my son hates. And i also got a goodbaby one for 500 which my son loves :)

I did take my LO to Cairo at 9 months. It was ok - did not really leave the hotel too much with him. We had a private car, but no seatbelt - think I took my carry car seat and used that. But I do agree it is very polluted and if your LO is susceptible to coughs, etc. it is not a good idea. I have also been to Delhi on many occassions - I found Delhi easier than Cairo to deal with! JMO ha!!! Inside Chandini Chowk???? I havent seen anything crazier than that place! lol!!!!! Eitherways, I am not going there or to Cairo (if its worse than delhi) till my LOs are 18! :D

Maybe u shoudl consult BFC on the forum who is a breastfeeding consultant. She is lovely! Most doctors here do promote formula milk, but there are lovely people like BFC and other breastfedding consultants, doulas, etc who are trying to create breastmilk awareness.

I saw a great way to display photos on a decorating program last week. A couple bought an overhead projector and put it up on a ceiling and hung a very pretty empty frame on the wall opposite. Photos were then displayed on random setting in that frame. It made a real feature. I am mind to do the same. oh yea, u can get that photoframe album thing to display ur pictures! I shud get one of those! Thanks MArina!

:) I am not an expert at I cudnt even get my son to accept the pacifier.. and i wish i cud! But he is only 4 months old.. and expecting to sleep for the whole night is kinda too much on the poor thing :) I think on an average mothers dont get a full night sleep till the baby is about 12months.. but of course this depends from baby to baby. And kids that age actually find comfort in sucking.. so maybe u should just give it to him... ofcourse, if he was 7-9months, i wouldnt say give in.. but he is so tiny.. :) Good luck!

U could get one of those :) And just sort them in to year/month and select only the good ones. Its hard work, but years down the lane its nice to look through physical prints rather than online. If u already have prints, just store them all on a harddisk and keep it securely somewhere :)

well, get ur husband to do it? As its obviously working. And maybe u can make it a point to spend atleast an hour with him exclusively everyday. I think the poor kid is insecure. I am expecting my second one next month, and my DS (19months) has been squeezing my arm, pinching it for 4-5months now. Only when he goes to sleep. I hope he will be alright when the new one comes! :)

There was lots of traffic outside my usually quite villa and when we looked out, we thought a man had been hit. But apparently an old man was standing to cross the road and he couldnt, and a guy in a van stopped his van, and helped him cross. Pretty much stopped traffic for about 5 minutes.. I thought it was sweet :)

Shaf, Ask your telephone company to give you a complete print out of your calls. On your phone won't count as you may have either deleted incoming or received calls. ( not saying your have ) This will be easier for you then with proof , you take it up with the Police/ RTA. It depends how strongly you feel but if you have the proof maybe you should follow up and more good will come from it and also let the police know you are not a walk over or made of money. Good luck edited by jewelsmiddle on 14/01/2011 ha! does etisalat print phone calls??? Anyways, i have to pay my bills tomm, i think I will give that a shot! Thank you soo much for the idea! :)

My DS was very big till about 9 months and then he stopped gaining weight so fast. I read somewhere that BF babies gain weight fast initially and then sort of slows down. But then again your LO is also crawling and stuff... mine dint crawl till after 10months! Yes, it does look like u are going to be up twice a night. U can also try putting the cot next to your bed, with the railing between the bed and cot off.. its not technically co-sleeping, but atleast you dont have to get up from bed twice a night.. hope it helps.

I cant really remember as my DS is 19months, but at 9 months, i think I was also Bfing my son about 6-7times in 24 hrs. And he was also on BLW too. My DS always slept for 6hrs a night from Day 1.. but till date thats the longest stretch i have slept after having him :) I personally am a big advocate of breastfeeding and I would like to shoot ur doc for asking u to stop breastfeeding. And its a excellent decision on your part that u aren't considering formula milk. :) Agreed we lose sleep for a year or two, but the benefit breastmilk has lasts a lot longer. Some women here struggle to breastfeed, and if u can, you should just continue it. Dont worry, they do feed lesser as they grow.. When my DS hit about 12months, he cut down to about 3-4feeds in 24 hrs. The night feeds are the hardest to cut out, but u will get there. I know ur losing sleep, but u r doing a great job! :)

There is a call made at 11:12am, but I remember clearly that was inside the compound of my house as I was telling a friend where she should park her car to access my house! And before that I was at the beach with her, so the last call was made to the same person 9:58 at the beach! Both times I was standing and not in the car.

Sorry, but I dont know anyone whose done ivf personally, and I can see few women here have done it and there is someone i know whose considering it. I just a had a few questions if anyone would be kind enough to answer. 1 - Is it painful? 2 - Which doctors here do it? Ie, whose highly recommended? 3 - How much does it cost approx? 4 - er.. wat exactly do they do? 5 - Is there any age group for which this is more successful or something like that? Sorry if the Qs are a bit dumb but I have no clue abt ivf apart from what the full form of it is.

we actually did see Sheikh Hamdan last year at MOE dressed so casually in shorts and t-shirt that for a second we were wondering who this familiar face was. Dh and he almost bumped into each other at a corner. Then when we finally figured out who it was we just stared and acted star stuck till one of his 5 bodyguards who were a little away gave us dirty looks! :D

frenchy, go and find out for yourself. And i suggest you go around 111:30-12:00 so you can see what its like. I went there to check it out for my son, but there is no way I would put my child there. I personally prefer "sparkly stuck up ones" which are clean! Why they force kids to sleep at that time is beyond me.. especially kids who dont want to. Interestingly, they have a branch nursery called Crystal Valley in Arabain centre, which I have not seen, but have heard good reviews of.
