I had a last minute request tonight from a client for a Chauffer Service to Ferrari World tomorrow and Pioneer Luxury Cars picked up the phone at 9pm when no-one else did. I'll report back tomorrow to see if they actually turn up for the job (!) but they were great on the phone tonight and the cost was very good. According to their website they do monthly rates :-) Will feedback in the morning!

Yes I was in A & E and applied online with them! It seems I really do have to go to RAK and get a police NOC. Need to psyche myself up for this one :-0

Thanks Jodel. My difficulty is that my VISA is issued in RAK where my company is licenced. I applied for "the card" online (don't bother doing this - just go in person - as the courier came 2 days later and I took paperwork to the store and then had to go and get everything re-printed as they said they couldn't read it!) The courier paperwork said "bring with NOC from the Emirate Police HQ that issued your VISA" but I chanced my arm and went with a letter I'd signed. No joy. Now I'm trying to find out what's what as my licence lady says that one of her other RAK client tried to get an NOC from RAK police was told "we don't do this!" Argh! Guess I best take a drive up there and let you all know what happens!

Ah I see. Have to say I really recommend Khasab. The people I took were members of my club, so I was stressed about it all going swimmingly - and it did - even though one of my guys had flown in from Istanbul on the 3am flight and used egate. As such, when we got to Oman the system hadn't yet updated and they said "you're still in Istanbul!" However, our driver was well known to the border chaps and it was all sorted swiftly :-)

Sanddy_dog I took 12 people to the Khasab cruise on Sept 28th - no problems at all - we just had to submit our nationalities prior to the trip and have valid UAE visas. I used Khasab Tours - speak to Marietta - they were a pleasure to deal with. http://www.khasabtours.com/ S

It's easy to get a licence - I have one with RAK FZ, and I work from home, although have a licensed office space in RAK. Heard Fujairah FZ is just as easy - but it may be difficult to recoup your costs for some time. www.arte.ae is always looking for new people to sell at their events - so they may have an encompassing licence? Good luck!

I had my nose pierced at 18 when I first went to Uni and I thought I was the bees knees..... It was an absolute b@ll ache the entire time and I think removing it after 8 months is the only reason I don't have a scar on the side of my nose. ( I did have a marked "pock" for about 5 years) When I had it done I made a big fuss about not wanting it where the man placed the mark - being 18 and all that - I thought it was too low - and so he did what I asked....and I lost the nerve feelings under my eye on that side for the whole time I had it in. When I had to change the ring or it came out I could feel "fizzing" in the area....and I also had an unfortunate incidence when I was sooo glad that I'd unscrewed the "cork-screw" ring I had in and made it a "90 degree" one or my nose would have 2.5 nostrils at the moment. Hope I've put your daughter off! :-)

I hear ALL of your points OP! I naturally have muddy brown hair which was pretty much down to my waist in the UK - which had become really blonde through hairdresser visits (in a good way!) I had the roots highlighted every 4-6 weeks - with none of this "bleach, then toner nonsense!" - just the one process...and obviously every session picked up a few more strands and I got blonder and blonder - which is what I wanted at the time - especially as it was done in relation to my base colour, so it wasn't harsh at all....then the old bits got blonder and the newly dyed strands got a little bit lighter - I LOVED my hair then! *sigh* I moved here with no knowledge and went to a salon while thinking "ermmm my hair is being 100% BLEACHED! I can SMELL it" - And then of course the 'tone over' situation. It always looks ok with a blow-dry at the time - and then you do it yourself at home and you have yellow streaks - with no finesse at all - ruined years of my lovely UK job in weeks! After that I ended up getting my hair cut shorter and shorter as I would much rather have shorter hair in better condition than a long nest of nasty hair......and as a result - and thanks to bad hairdressers, I've not had long hair for 4+ years....BUT.... When I decided to trust hairdressers again, I went to Roots - (and believe me they had their work cut out with me - by that stage I had jet black hair - from a home dye job too!) And I had it totally "lifted" - and it's now back to my original colour with very good grey coverage...... Strange that's what I went back to eh.....lesson for us all here ;-) I get on very well with Donna & Mandy at Roots Barsha and Rachel at Roots Jumeirah....they practise the British way of doing your barnet - ie: talk to you - and won't do anything you're uncomfortable with - saved the day for me after years of not having a great time here in Dubai! I'm confident about letting my hair get beyond my shoulders as it's not wrecked anymore - and they have gave me some really good styles along the way when my hair was growing out. PS: I also got on well with Juan at JLT....but we had a miscommunication once and I ended up with much shorter hair than I bargained for at the time..... which was a real pain as it was actually in good nick then. BUT I liked his cut - a lot. I'm also yet to visit Salon Ink, as it's not at the right end of town for me - but I know one of the previous posters who goes there - and she has awesome hair! Always research expatwomen ladies :-) google is our hairs' friend ;-)

I just organised an event at Vu's Emirates Towers and it was fabulous! 6 courses for aed 420 inc. house beverages. No music, but the first course was oysters, langoustines, lobster, octopus and scallops :-) It was pretty empty when we went, but the food and views made it a special occasion. It's no smoking - and then of course you are in Emirates Towers if you want to go on afterwards.

Hi there, Is it just me or has the old turning off SZR that used to take you though Old Town with Qamardeen on your left completely gone? I have a meeting there this evening and the last 2 times I 1) ended up off roading in single land sandpit 2) had to go all the way round Dubai Mall to get back into Old Town. Is there any easier way of getting there without having to hit all that traffic past Emaar Square and the Mall? TIA!

Why don't they think about self-catering instead? I've just booked a 2 bed in the Marina for a week for my family over November Eid (busy, expensive time - the hotel costs were ludicrous) which cost 1,200 GBP, which is I think is really good value as this is being split between 4 people :-)

Evening all! Any updates on brunches with music where you can dance during and after a la Yalumba? I really wanted to book Horizon at the Habtoor, but just called them and they have stopped doing it. It's not till November, so outside would be perfect - but I need to book it now as we're going to be about 50 people. Thanks in advance. Hi ladies, Please consider my foster dog – Bob – if you or anyone you know is looking for a dog. He's about 10 months old and is an absolutely stunning looking Saluki cross with striking amber eyes and a fab personality. I got him from DM 11 weeks ago and he's house-trained, has had all his vaccinations, including kennel cough, and has been neutered and micro-chipped – in short, he's good to go and is in rude health and has been socialised with lots of other people, dogs and cats (he seems to like cats – particularily the ones at MVC– but other cats we meet on our walks do tend to spit at him!) He's great with all people and absolutely brilliant with other dogs – his favourite thing in the world apart from carrots, playing and sleeping at my feet. If you had another dog or a garden for him to frolic about in, so much the better. He is great on the lead, but can pull when he sees another dog – but he's now at the stage to be left off and go and play with them, which means I can sit on the grass while he wears himself out! I can only keep Bob until the middle of September latest, so please do let me know if you or anyone is interested in him. He has a facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Bob/265425040140579 and is also on photobucket - http://s1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/ShellyMcDubai/?start=0 Thanks for any help!

Also ask them if their water is on! I had a last minute blow dry there today (ladies in the Greens were busy) and what an experience! Sat in the chair - a dribble of scalding hot water got put on my head and then my head was scrubbed to the extent I think she thought it was cork stuck in a bottle. I then had freezing cold water from a bottle that had obviously come from the fridge poured on in tiny dribbles to try and get the shampoo out. After about a coke cans worth of pouring she rattled some conditioner through and attempted to rinse with alternative boiling and freezing. A scrape of a comb through my tattered locks and then she tried to single handedly do "The Creation of Adam" through my head by rootling around in each ear with a towel before I was set up on with a hairdryer that stank of burnt hair and was held together with cellotape!! No mouse, no hairspray (good - I don't like them and usually have to fight not to have them) but also no serum, which I need before and after as my hair is very colour damaged. Unbelievably my hair actually looked good after all of this apart from the tentacles waving at everyone from the crown (no serum) - but it feels like Worzel Gummige's now as it still has so much suds in it. Being a Brit of course I tipped her and ran away - hahaha! This place needs to pull its socks up!

I can ask my brother if you like? He's a carpenter and joiner and he and my Dad have renovated 2 houses for me (kitchen, bathroom, 2 fixing, floors etc). He's based in Lincolnshire but his reputation takes him all over the UK - and he's done a LOT of work in London. I know he's mega busy at the moment but it may be worth getting in touch with him or he may know someone in London if he can't help? Let me know and Ill ask him.

I'm super impressed with Urban Tails - www.urbantailsdubai.com My foster boy went there this morning and I've just had a call back to let me know he's doing great, is playing with everyone (bestie mates with a retriever) and that he'd had his lunch etc. I was worried about him going as he's only a pup and I didn't want him to think he'd been abandoned again - far from it - he skipped off with the manager without so much as a backwards glance at me the s*d!

Try the Kinkoss in Media City - I just had my business cards and receipts there and I basically just sent them the tex and my logo with instructions (top text justified right, bottom text justified left, XX colour, XX font etc) and they did everything for me - including tidying up a shadow on my logo.
