Well that's up to them then really - they will fall at the first hurdle. Sorry Izzy and OP if I offended. I still wouldn't grass anyone up. BTW i speak as someone that's just about to go freelance at a pretty hefty expense! <em>edited by ShellyMcD on 13/05/2011</em>

I'm happy that someone is "doing well for themselves" (they may just be doing runs / trying to sort out a visa etc. while bringing in a bit of wedge that they can bill later when they get clearance) Live and let live and thank god we're all different :-) If someone grasses them up - then they may get a hand on their shoulder and if they can't get round it - it could or couldn't be horrific for the aforementioned party. Always embrace competition dawnmac :-) "its not fair" won't go far.

Any good? Last 2 weekends I've flopped around in my pool, like Eric the Fish as my Soltan 50 for kids has run in my eyes and HURT me (poor kids that have it slathered on them!) and it made reading by the pool a 1 eye at a time affair. Any suggestions for good 30+ factor face creams that can cope with a sweaty betty that likes a swim?

I'm an expat and I treat everyone the same.... When I first came here (I'm newish at 3.5 years) I automatically held respect to nationals, (and still do) however, having seen "ladies" in Abaya's "click their fingers" in people's faces for service....I returned the favour and did the same to them "click" ....."what did you just say to Mrs person behind me?"... and had the men in the group apologise to me for their women folks behaviour. Rudeness transcends even the Abaya - and NO-ONE has any respect for dis-respectiful people, regardless of dress or nationality - you just have to pity them and their blood line. Ooooh the times, they are a changing - however.....treat people as you would expect to be treated and it'll all be good.

Darling3 you haven't had many replies in terms of support networks. See mine and ttf posts for some numbers, however: None of us know what stage (you or) your family members are at......but please do keep us updated as there's always someone on this forum that can help - and when there's an understanding of the type of cancer, people can genuinely give advice. Darling 3 are you ok? It's very important that you are looking after yourself - if you're there on the forum please shout out. It's horribly difficult for us relatives, but I know what it's like. I'm sure you're more than aware that people [b'>survive [/b'>cancer and people die from cancer. Whatever the outcome - much of the burden throughout the lengthy process is on the family in practical, impractical and emotional ways - but it's worked for us - and I left my home country at the height of my Mum's diagnosis (at her request and with her blessing). Please don't feel the need to conform to anyone's way of dealing with this... ETA: Please always look to the positive - both you and your relatives - it's essential x x x I really hope you're ok Missus. And I re-iterate Macmillan Nurses and me :-) edited by ShellyMcD on 19/03/2011 ETA again - I really feel the need to write this again, and I hope not giving false hope....but my Mum really was supposed to cark - but she ended up getting all sorts of new treatment at her and our insistence. She was only 57 and was picked (after the NHS telling us she had Chrones for a year) because she's "nails" (to the Brits!) I'd been offered a job over here, which of course I declined...but no....Mum wanted me to come.... and she's now well enough incredibly - (whole medical dissertations written about her op) - to tell me - "Stay where you are! I love you!" Awww......my amazing ma x xx <em>edited by ShellyMcD on 19/03/2011</em>

There was a lovely thread about this some time ago. I'm just off the phone to HSBC, Having had terrible "customer care" from them for 2 years I cancelled my card last summer and paid it off. However, I kept getting emails telling me to download my statement, which was a worry. I just called and got an excellent rep, with brilliant English who assured me I get the emails as I am 1 dirham and 19 fils in credit on my account! She sorted it in seconds....maybe they are bucking their ideas up? Completely off track - I regularly organise employee awards at work and I use Precise Middle East at MofE near Virgin. Their customer service is outstanding! Try and deal with Glaiza if you ever use them - she's brilliant. They do other corporate gifts too, which I haven't yet tried (I use Frances at Desert Rose for those - another excellent supplier).

I'm 40 this year and I can't wait.....got my nylon flowery dress tucked into bloomers with tartan shopping bag and de rigeur arthritis copper bangle party coming together :-) Can't actually believe I've made it to this age! So....YAY for me! As Sals B (I think) said, I lost so many friends over the years - so just embrace it being here and all it entails. My 40th year - Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh. I went to my (girls) school 25th reunion last summer and everyone was sooo surprised by me being single, childless, living 1000's of miles away from home - and to be honest, when it was put to me like that I sort of was surprised by it as well - but it's all good - cos I'm here and I'm hopefully making my own little mark on the planet :-)

I did an overnight desert trip for some friends (there were only 8 of us, but I'm sure they can accommodate 20). The organiser has now become my friend - he only uses Hummers, which is cool in itself- you do dune bashing, sand boarding, just soak up the scenery, then do all the daft henna tattoo, belly dancing, buffet stuff which was great fun...then after lots of sheesha and beverages and a sing song round the open fire we all got given sleeping bags and mats and slept under the stars - and I have to say it's one of the best weekends I've had in Dubai. Can enquire for you if you like? I have also done the private yacht which was great. Never done it - but you could group book Dreamland and stay over? And......Oh gawd I'm opening up a can of worms here, but if it's close friends and a landmark birthday the world is your oyster, as people WILL pay to come if you decide on something like a very swish private yacht / Yalumba etc. (and you pay for hubby). Running away now.... Seriously though CW - I LOVE coming up with ideas for things like this (I had 85 people on a catamaran for my birthday a few years ago and just did a party in UK for 150 people). So if you could say a bit about budget if you are paying and if you want it to be afternoon / evening or both / at home etc...I will get the old grey matter twitching.

That's a great budget! Try www.booking.com - sort by reader review / see the prices and cross check with tripadvisor! I was at Jebel Dhanna last weekend - really nice to kick back, but only go if the weather is really good as there is absolutely nothing to do. The beach however, is lovely. It was only 499 per night for UAE residents. It's a 3 hour drive away. Food choice limited, room very nice, ."Spa" is really just a treatment room, but the girl really knows what she's doing (book in advance - she's busy). Swimming pool small - but as I say the beach is fab. Closer to home: Kempinski Ajman is nice. Cove Rotana Ras Al Khaima Jebel Ali Beach Resort just down the road is a nice surprise! Enjoy!

I wouldn't want to teach any child of mine to think it's the "norm" to be so rude as to not RSVP or not to take it on the chin if they're not invited to something (that's completely alien or inappropriate for them anyway) or not to understand the predicament for the host family and birthday child. So...absolutely 100% say "No siblings" I was at Jebel Ali Club a couple of years ago and a kids party arrived (nightmare!) and there were so many of them of all different ages - too much boisterousness and a lad got his nose broken. The poor Mum who was hosting looked at her wits end and it was obvious she had NO idea so many kids were coming - or that there would be so few adults. As someone else said, when they (and me) were kids you played a few games of pass the parcel / statues / musical chairs to maybe get a silly gift - and occasionally got a bit of cake in a napkin to take home. A child's birthday party is about the birthday child - not about the guests or giving Mum a chance to skive off for an afternoon.

A lady posted this list for me before - 800 tends to be for speeding or red lights by the looks of things. ttp://www.dubaipolice.gov.ae/dp/english/e_services.jsp?Page=A26&Id=11137&num2=HOM&num=HOM I got done for speeding on a date when I knew I was home asleep, having got a taxi after my birthday night out! But when I looked at the photo it was 100% my car and in true Dubai fashion the time on the speed camera was wrong by 12 hours. Try not to worry too much and I'm sure Al Barsha station will be ok for you to go to if you managed to check your fines on the RTA site and not the Sharjah Traffic site. Sharjah site: http://www.shjpolice.gov.ae/en/fines_moi.html
