nothing to worry about, for one that goes two arrive. Of course people made redundant or leaving will start ranting about the place. It's ok, they should just go, nobody forced them to come here in the first place. Wow what an unhelpful, rude and ridiculous thing to say! No, people made redundant can't 'just go'. Many have loans, or mortgages and other commitments that have to be dealt with and actually end up trapped in a vicious cycle they can't get out of. The 'if you don't like it leave' attitude is a very poor one. I sincerely hope YOU don't find yourself in this position one day, and then have someone say the same to you. Obviously hasn't been in that situation yet themselves or are single on a monthly rental contract. I don't like it and are 4 month in to my 12 month rental contract, the kids are in the middle of the school year, no job back home, can I just pack up and leave because I don't like it? Or even worse there are people coming from countries where there is a war going on.

A friend went to Spirals in JVC and she looks really good, said it was British stylists and half price compared to places like Ted Morgan. The location is not really convenient for myself, so I'm still looking, no consistency in the salons here unfortunately. I had a good cut and color at Tang and Mora in JLT for 550 dhs. They have a few German hairdressers there. It was good and reasanoble priced, but I wasn't blown away. My friend speaks highly of a hairdresser named Kim in Spirals but she mentioned its in JLT not JVC... is there Spirals in JVC? I have been to Beauty Balance Saloon in Bur Dubai... I had a trim, root color, low lights and blow dry (+eye brow and upper lip) all for 600 Dhs. They are a very small saloon but quite cozy. I used to go to Emma and she was great, even my mom (quite a picky person) loved her work. She sadly left. But they have another guy who has previous experience from Amro saloon (most known and expensive branch in UAE) and another egyptian lady who is very sweet and good too. So check it out ... There might be two Spirals then, the one I know about is in JVC and I think my friend paid a bit less than 500 dhs for her services (cut and color) and the same thing use to set her back at almost 900 dhs at Ted Morgan and honestly the result was as good.

I'm sorry to say, but if he can't see the problem and is in denial it's not much you can do apart from the support you have already given. My mother is severely obese and now has diabetes, that still doesn't stop her from overeating and eating the wrong kind of food, it's heartbreaking to see. She's been to dieticians, which advice she doesn't take as she thinks she too old to change her habits, her medication has increased, but still no change. I think it's an addiction and denial, a bit like an alcoholic. I sincerely hope your husband will find motivation, as he has a support wife. Do you think hypnotherapy could work? Thank you for sharing, and sorry to hear about your mom. I didn't think of hypnotherapy honestly, but now that you suggested the idea, yes why not... I'll check a center, and suggest the idea to him, not knowing if he'll be enthusiastic about it or not... Hope things will be better for your mom as well. Thanks, let us know if you found something that works and I will definitely try it with my mum as well....

Every household is different in Dubai. Some have more job security than others. Sometimes our closest friend has a very negative view on Dubai and that sometimes transfer to ourselves (I stopped meeting friends that was constantly moaning about being her, it does drag you down and lets face it no ones life is rosy all the time). I also heard that small business owners here can find it extremely tough. Be careful listening to people that aren't happy here they might want to justify for themselves why it didn't work out for them and are convincing themselves that Dubai is going to crash next year, so they are better off going back home. I have been here for quite some time and seen people coming, leaving and quite a few times coming back or trying to come back again, makes me think twice about going back home and for now we are good/ better off here in Dubai. If you are earning AED now and has a mortgage in £, you could be doing quite well here at the moment. There are always pros and cons depending on your personal circumstances.

Choose were you live wisely, close to work and school and even better if it's public transport nearby. Think twice if you need to make that trip to the shop, could maybe wait until tomorrow. Personally it's as much about the environment impact as the money.

I think you would have to speak to child psychologist, at that age loosing weight mostly have nothing to do with not knowing about nutrition, most likely something is troubling her or she wants to be thin. I wish you luck, as it must be hard to see as a parent.

I know someone that took her child out of the school recently, main reason was that she thought some subjects they were a bit below other schools and for the fees you pay, you can go to one of the brand new schools with amazing facilities. Personally I think the school looks tired as well and they still charges top $$$. Reading your post again, I get the impression that your child moves because of bullying, I know a case of a girl that moved Safa Community School and they were extremely happy with the school's approach and found the general feel of parents and students very family orientated.

I agree a Porsche probably shouldn't be a surprise, but a mutal decision including a test drive or two before committing. He will want to be part of picking model and color, that's half the experience of getting a new car.

I don't think there are any mixed Spas outside of hotels. You could go to the Tips and Toes Al Barsha and they have the Jazzlounge next door that is Tips and Toes male branch.

I find the NailSpa the most professional and consistent throughout their branches. The nail spa is high end but very professional place. Highly recommend Their prices are a little bit higher than Tips and Toes, maybe 5-10 dhs per service, but I think they deliver that little bit extra as well.

It's important to do your research, there are some great doctors here, but also some not great at all once. City Hospital generally has a very good reputation. I wouldn't go to any dentist that offer Spa treatments at their check up, just saying....

There are no disaster seats, buy what you feel comfortable to spend, as anywhere the more expensive seats are just little bit nicer. We went for seats costing 550 dhs the first time and booked the same one again for Cats.

You have to be careful and if the crticism is constructive and not completely bashing the place you should be fine. You'll find people screaming defamation for smallest thing, but read a copy of Timeout for example and not every review will be possitive, use your common sense and be a bit nicer than what you would be back home, if that make sense.

Something really weird happened last night and I am not really sure how to judge this. While I was walking by, a couple came to me with their kid and started telling me about their situation of not being able to find a job since 2 months, having nothing to eat, baby is hungry etc etc So out of natural instinct I wanted to help them. I am not a fan of giving cash so i took them to a nearby grocery and got milk and biscuits for the kid. While i was waiting for my turn at the cashier, the lady comes and puts a large packet of butter as well!! I was surprised and annoyed at the thought. She could have asked for more milk or more baby food but butter????! It's difficult to know there situation and the butter was just plain cheeky! Unfortunately there are scammers using this method to get free shopping.

I wouldn't stay if we didn't save or had a significant better lifestyle then back home and I'm not talking about going to Friday brunches or buying designer clothes, but quality of school, safety and a good family life balance (which is difficult to achieve anywhere I suppose...).

Hi Ladies Happy Holidays everyone Would like to share my sentiment with regards to finding a job as Teaching Assistant here in Dubai. Does anyone know the usual criteria they are looking for and the compensation for the post? I've had several years of experience as teaching Assistant in nurseries here in dubai but after I left my work last October I submitted like around 50 cvs to different schools and nurseries here. But no luck. Please advise. Need your feedback. Your response is highly appreciated Thank you ??? Try and reach the decision makers directly. I imagine schools get hundreds of CVs so you need to stand out Dress up business smart go into said nursery with your CV, speak with reception or try and meet with the Manager face to face. Sadly sending numerous CV's does not work anymore as many people are looking for work. Budgets for the new year are usually written in January and the roles released In February @ Saralou123 Thank you so much for the infos and suggestion. I will keep that in mind for sure. God bless dear. Do you have Cashe training, it seems like a requirement for almost all nurseries now?

As a thumb rule....muslim or non muslim... I never allow my dogs to go near anyone till the other wants to. I am the same, there are lots of people terrified of dogs and has allergies. Maybe make clear that you are not comfortable with the dog approaching, tell them before they are too close, I do that even having my own dog, as I don't trust all dogs, especially some that are walked by maids that might not be knowledgeable about dogs.

JVC will be better, especially evening time, from Media City the traffic can be quite bad towards the Ranches, which is what you will pass for Mudon. For Ajman it doesn't really matter, will be similar.

Can't advice on the restaurants as haven't been to neither, but both looks amazing. One thing to consider might be the traffic, as it used to be horrendous going out of the Palm in the evening, had it changed? I stopped going out on the crescents because of this reason.

Does it says anything about tenant not paying his rent in the contract? There might be a clause if rent not paid within 30 days, the owner can take possession. Ask Rera for free advice. Good luck!

The Marina and JLT are also nice areas, especially when you are new to Dubai as you will literally have everything on your doorstep and easy access to the Metro. JVT is still quite good value for money and good acces to the main roads, including Szr via Garn Al Sabhka street. I would stay away from the Palm at the moment, traffic and construction is pretty unbearable.

The title annoyed me slightly, that mothers can't control their children and then in the post it mentions that the parents were dining out with the child, like the dad isn't responsible to control the child. But fully agree with you, it's not acceptable to have your child screaming in a restaurant, they shouldn't have been out that late with the child or taken it out once started to make a loud fuss.
