The final result, yes, maybe even 9 pm, as the speeches were a bit late. But now we will find out who's the first city voted off!

From Arabian Business: "5.50pm: So it looks like the voting has now started for round one. We wait and wait, nobody seems to know when exactly the numbers will be made public. We are hearing this first result will come through around 6.10pm. If any country gets 66 percent of the vote in round one, they win. We don’t think that will happen, but we’ll see. So fingers crossed."

I may have to get one of the prepaid ones, that sounds like a good option. Where are they sold? edited by desertrose83 on 27/11/2013 https://www.maffinance.com/en All info there. I have a combo: one card for every day shopping which I can use at any store/atm in the world, can be loaded through ENBD ATM machine or in C4 and the other specially for online shopping-which can be loaded from the first one, online in seconds!

I used my debit card from here for online purchases, local bank and also used prepaid card and no issues either. Both are Visa. What bank do you use? Emirates NBD and the prepaid is from Maffinance (Majid Al Futtaim)

Actually am happy, just tad annoyed with those that cannot take just a moment and be happy for a possible achievement! you'll find them everywhere in life not only in the forum.. let's just stay positive After 50+ yrs of life I sooo know this, trust me! Still annoyed with those lamenting all the time about Dubai...Good luck and hope we'll get it, over-hyped as it might be considered!

Hey ladies, I am looking for somewhere to go to have my hair put up for a Ball. It is next Friday and ideally I need it to be in or near Mirdif so I can get it done as late in the day as possible. Can anyone recommend anywhere or anyone and do you know an approximate cost? Thanks in advance :) Behind the mosque on 71st is a salon, can't remember the name, they do very nice up-dos...talk to them!

Sorry to be a crank in the works, but I thank goodness I will be out of Dubai by 2020 if they win. This thread is for all of us who wishes Dubai "Good luck"! If you cannot say this, can you at least keep to yourself!? Thank you! Actually, I don't think you can say this thread is only for this or that ... threads are open to posters, whatever their opinions! I agree with dolleymadison, just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you can't state it :). Read the thread title: Good Luck Dubai! Your opinion can be expressed in a thread separately! That's my opinion! I couldn't wait to see how long it takes for some to jump on me...didn't take THAT long, as expected! edited by simoralu44 on 27/11/2013

..... But, it is still 7 years away. This gives many people a chance to finish up contracts and go onwards if they do not like the offers of the future here. I for one have my full support behind the bid. Oh, I couldn't have said it better. I am so fed up with all those pointing the negative and never seeing the good side of being here! No place is perfect and I know that Dubai is far better than many other places. I love Dubai, love being here and wouldn't miss Expo 2020 in Dubai!

Natashab, when my kids were at the same age, we used to say that Santa made a stop over at the grand parents/aunts/uncles etc and left there the gifts, so sort of a compromise, kids will anyway associate the gifts with the respective relative!

@Tallybalt, I don't know where you come from but in my book these are not small cities. All have at least 200,000 population, with some in millions (daejon 1.4 mil and Brisbane over 2 mil) and Aichi prefecture having 7 mil. And Lisbon is the capital of a country, so that is not minor for me! As for the shortfall pf some of the previous editions (like Hanover) is because the organizers have failed to convey to the public a clear image of what Expo 2000 is going to be. Nevertheless 25 mil people visited! So, I think Dubai is going to make a splash with the Expo 2020, will try to make it the Biggest, the Best...so let's be happy and hope for it. With all the negative press, Dubai has an impressing marketing/advertising machine and will boost all the event. I personally would love to see Dubai win and be part of the event!

For those saying the Expo is over-hyped and oh,not so important, have a look here http://expo2020dubai.ae/en/world_expos/world_expo_legacy If some don't pay attention to certain things, this doesn't mean they are less important for the rest of the world! I really wish Dubai gets Expo 2020! And, yeah, am a supporter who knows what the Expo is about! :) edited by simoralu44 on 25/11/2013

Thought I'd share this! And NO, I am NOT involved in any way int his centre, I thought to share for those looking for music and dance classes, as it was often asked here on the forum. Is NOT advertising is information sharing. "Fondue Art Centre is designed to deepen and broaden the creative abilities of children and adults through various art classes, workshops and events." https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fondue-Art-Centre/391802737590067?directed_target_id=24963859019&viewer_id=565653558

Alaingirl, the light are not that big of an issue, but the island...why on earth would YOU have to pay for that??? As for the pool....hmm. I wouldn't be so sure he will be so compliant after you paid. And 3 weeks envisaged finishing...let's say close to a month and a half seeing how things go here. I am blessed with a very good landlord whom I trust to keep his word, unfortunately not all are the same. Maybe you can convince hubby to see the villa we saw together ;)

The clearest way is to write a letter through a notary public at Dubai Courts, which will they hand over to the landlord! Am sure the notary has a draft for such cases and will only fill in details. This way the LL cannot say he didn't receive the cancelation notice. Is the safest way.

May I ask a question: if a perfect reliable amazing maid/nanny/driver would forget your child in the car after a shopping trip would you be so lenient?? Guess not, you would say is their job to pay attention. So is the parents' job! DesertRose, nobody is infalible, but is not excusable! That's all I say. You see parents driving with the children without car seats/seat belts. It happens? Yes! Is it excusable? No! 3 hours seems an awful lot of time not to niss your child! Just imagine how these 3 hours seemed to the little one "forgotten" in the oven hot car! He's the one I have compassion for. :( I might come across as a compassionless b**** just because I think these things shouldn't happen and I have a tear in my eyes for the poor child that suffocated in an overheated car and not for the parents! They might be sorry now but is too little too late! edited by simoralu44 on 09/06/2013

There are some nice sheisha cafes that have backgammon boards.... maybe a sheisha / backgammon session. I am in ;) I'm in although I don't smoke shisha, but am good at inhaling it. :D So...next step? The Bill Clinton school of smoking then? No, just plain passive smoker!! Wonder how BC would have worked out with a shishathough. Oooops, we can talk this over a backgammon game :D

I am not attacking you Simoralu, it is your tone that is bordering on hysteria not mine. I am just saying in a level headed way that these things happen, it is an awful tragedy, it is my greatest fear and it happens to normal, loving parents. I will also be putting a teddy in the backseat to avoid this in future. This is not a thread to attack anyone, not least the parents of this child. You say is happening, I say is not excusable. If you think I'm hysterical when a child dies, so be it. But your posts are bordering offence so am not gonna debate with you.

TDB I will disregard your uncalled for comment about apoplexy. What I said is that is NOT excusable, I didn't say they intended to leave their child in the car. Good that they have to live the consequence oif this, because is criminal negligence. This is my opinion and is no need for any personal comments. I think we all know it is not excusable, but having some empathy and understanding rather than pouring scorn and condemnation on parents who will live forever with what they have done, is a more sensible approach. Why not pour scorn on paedos and axe murderers instead. You don't know me obviously so when will be the case of discussing about axe murderers/pados you will see my reaction! Till then, please keep a moderate level in your tone towards me. I am not the person to attack here.

Ladies, I surrender in front of majority: it happens and is excusable to forget your child in the car while you focus on the shopping bags! No comment anymore! :( perhaps if you read the article I posted - it certainly made me be a bit more understanding..... Sorry to have become the bad guy just because I don't accept people's actions leading to the death of an innocent child! I have 2 grown-up kids and. Grand-ma anytime now so...I don't comment! It is my opinion, better posters focus on the subject.
