Those who did this are not humans! And we cannot call them animals either because we would offend the animals. They are scum and life will give them what they deserve for such cruelty. RIP Roxy!

Yes, you are right. DC, why don't you have your husband look at Warqa 1, 2, and 3? There are many more conveniences in that area and the roads are mainly done. Just looked outside the window and seen my "sandy road":) :) Main roads mainly done, sandy roads-streets are drivable. Have neighbours driving with +100 kmph on it.

Al Warqa'a 4, wer her husband was, is a bit remote, true, but the others, 1,2,and 3 are not and are more established. Is 8 min drive to Festival city, 5 min to MCC and 5 min to UpTown. The plus is that villas have huge gardens (plot sizes are 10-15,000 sqf) so more than suitable for dogs. I know, we have to giant dogs and Wilma the tortoise and wouldn't imagine living anywhere else. As for access to Down Town is easy, in 15 min I'm there, Deira is same same :)

Thanks ladies :). The villa was just before the Bin Sougat centre in a compound in a nice leafy part but sadly the garden is just too small :(. We were hoping it might be doable with the other great features making up for it, but it's just not practical with the dogs. I did like the area, though, so it's definitely still on our list! ETA I don't care at all that it's not an 'expat' area. The other areas I'm looking at are Al Badaa, Satwa and Garhoud so I'm definitely not after a Stepford Wives place :D. edited by DubaiCat on 19/05/2013 I know what you mean a garden for 2 dogs! I think an independent villa would better suit your requirements. Why don't you try the Al Warqa' area? Here are only independent villa, arabic style with huge gardens. Price wise is more than ok. edited by simoralu44 on 19/05/2013

Why on earth are we so snappy these days!! I was snappy and I hated it :) Bot some people are OTT. DXB is a salad bowl (a local columnist said it) with a mixture of cultures and habits and odd behaviours...doesn't make it right, is just different. Snap :)

I know it's annoying for you as mother to have your kids' photo taken by strangers, but I've seen it happening here often. Especially if they blonde hair-fair skin-blue eyes kids. I don't think they would have done anything to harm them and you were in your right to ask them to delete the photo, but no need to panic. I don't know the women, why on earth leave my son's photos with a total stranger? it's not the concept it become acceptable by some over here, it's the concept it self, can any of us take a photo of a total male stranger? I doubt this fine. To be fair, my children are not blond, not blue or green eyes either, my children are my children, we are not celebrity or part of a royal family... so why the strange attitude of these women? You got me wrong, I didn't say is either acceptable or fine! And you were in your right to ask them to delete the photo. I just said don't need to panic. Is just one of those things that get the "different culture" explanation. Not necessarily ok but you might consider.

I am so privileged to live in Oman. Arrived Dubai 1976 and what a gem of a place. Now hideous in every respect. Dubai, like many other big cities in the world has ups and downs, but I wouldn"t consider it hideous. Is too harsh, in my opinion. But, hey,who am I to judge,I love Dubai.... edited by simoralu44 on 18/05/2013

If you have irrigation with timer and grass, why do you want to replace with artificial? Not judging, just nosy :) We keep our irrigation 3 times a day, early morning-lunch-evening, 4 min on each phase. But that is the timer doing the job. DH says with the artificial grass yoy'll never be happy. Now also depends on the surface.

I managed to get some at dragon mart for 17aed per square meter. Will try to find name. That's a very good price. Did it include installation? I'd like to get artificial grass as it makes the garden look so tidy as well as saving water. Our grass on one side is a mess due to the neighbour's damas trees. What's the best preparation of the ground? A neighbour put some down recently and they had the area cemented. Should have either a cement base or a very thick plastic foil (as we have under our graveled area_ otherwise the sand will "eat"it.

Abbie and Tassos, forgive my scepticism if Sandy has really been found at her carer's home and you are going to be giving such a huge reward. Call me a cynical old bag if you will, but I'm afraid I smell something fishy :( But I am very glad if you have really found your beloved dog and all is well in your world. Really? Unnecessary assumptions! We were out, the 4 if us looking for Sandy when the carer called, happy and crying, that Sandy found her way back to her house Nobody talks or claims the reward. They are just happy they have Sandy back. Let's not spoil it with theories!! Now I'm hugging my pooches! :) :)

Thank you all for being so kind. We are setting off for the airport in 2 hours. Somebody said they think they saw her 2 days ago near sharooq entrance near Algeria street. She was walking towards uptown mirdiff. They think she might have turned off right to get away from the cars. Does this make sense? I am not familiar at all with the area. Is quite a walk between where she was lost and Shorooq but nothing is impossible. Will ask friends in Mirdif to pay attention.

Try in Nad Al Sheba, close to Meydan or close to Nad Al Sheba vets, camel farms there. Best bet is at the race track, on Al Ain road.

DH and I been driving around Warqa'a 3 for more than 2 hrs (took shifts) Around the running track, 55 street, around the mosque where they have the kabab stand ( she's greedy, remembered it) up to Nouakchott street...asked the street workers if they've seen her but no luck. I don't know where OP lives, might be a possibility if she lives near the carer that Sandy tries to get home!! Will try later again :(

She is called sandy. We have cats too and we always get them in by shaking our keys. She might recognise that noise. She loves the noise of squeaky toys too. I'm worried about her not having any water. If anybody lives nearby can they put out a water bowl for her so she can find some water at least. She will not come voluntarily up to strangers as she is very timid. She likes sausages if you spot her. You might be able to tempt her out if she can smell food. She is very greedy. Ok, noted. We have chewy treats and sausages and keys and water. We'll try in the morning. We have 2 dogs ourselves,we know how you feel. edited by simoralu44 on 14/05/2013

Yes, you'll take left at the big traffic light, not the one that leads into Shorooq. And you'll have Shorooq on your left on the way to the roundabout. :)

Nope, you take left towards Warqa'a 4 and at the first roundabout you'll see the building site on the right hand side, take right,Nouakchott street, and you'll be in front of it. I f you go straight ahead as you said you end up in Warqa"a 1 and 2 where the apartments I told you about are. Hope this helps. :)

Yup, so company accommodation in Mirdif/Warqa"a area makes sense. There are apartments for rent in Warqa"a 1 and 2 at quite affordable prices. 1 B/R is about 35-40.000 AED and 2 B/R UP TO 50-60.000 AED. Supermarkets close by (Aswaaq, Mas Supermarket and in Mirdif others), bus feeders to metro and MCC (comfortable,no issues). And very close to your new work place. Is worth having a look around.

Sim, your post goes to show how everyone is soooo different. I got a Samsung galaxy as a gift nad gave up omit instantly. Not even 5 hours of use. I hate it. No way I will ever get my head around it. It is soooo busy and so not user friendly to me! All my friends, my sister and hubby have an iPhone and although I have said I don't like them and would never buy one, I must say I love them compared to the Samsung! I am very, very happy with my basic 100dh Nokia phone ;) I can text with my eyes closed. It does everything I need my phone to do, and then I have my iPad for everything else. But I have my 2 sisters and best friends abroad and they hate me cause I don't have what's app ;) just been looking at th e different options and looks like I will buy the Nokia c3 01 ;) very old school with a bit of new :) I also have a cheap Asha and I think you can have Whatsapp on some of their models. So you won"t be hated anymore. And we are all beautiful because we are sooooo different! :)
