If you can get hold of the FB message history, the police will definitely act on it. Did your daughter's friend delete the messages out of shame and fear, I wonder?

Well for heaven's sake, CA, I hope you have made sure she has blocked her neighbour and tell her that if she doesn't tell her parents about this, you will? Or are you planning on going straight to the police yourself and reporting it on her behalf? Oh, just seen it has stopped, but still, the parents should know there is a predator in their area, surely? edited by simpleasabc on 18/10/2012

Hasn't the law on this 12 months' notice of sale changed recently? When you go into your third year, anyway, the Landlord can raise the rent according to the RERA calculations, can't they?

Your best bet would be having it sent by DHL or FedEx. I don't think registered mail will work when sending a letter abroad since it is out of the USPS's hands to collect a signature. Good point - I've offered to pay for banks to do this, but [b'>still [/b'>they refuse :( edited by simpleasabc on 18/10/2012

Just make sure you get the title deeds of the place you are renting and confirmation that the LL has paid the community service charges up to date and has a good history of paying them :D

I've tried to get correspondence sent registered from banks in the UK and Switzerland, having explained all the problems with post in Dubai, including the fact you can't get post delivered to your home address, but they apparently just don't have the facility to do anything but occasionally send it First Class..

Love it :D

I get the impression this difference between expiry dates of contracts between a certain company and LL/tenant is not unusual and wonder if it was deliberate, though not sure what was to be gained? One or two days might be explicable, but months, as with Savannah? I suppose the difference was pocketed and the plan was already to abscond? Out of curiosity, does anyone know of this happening with other agents?

Like your thinking, but don't children have to be accompanied by adults when you go to the sort of places which require an entrance fee (am thinking Wild Wadi etc)?

..with your child's teacher, at nursery level, or even older? Just wondering what other mothers do. I try to be friendly and cordial with the teacher and establish a rapport with her but its always so rushed and busy at pick up and drop off time. Dont get me wrong, its not that she's showing disinterest, on the contrary she does take time to answer all my questions and concerns.I guess the reason im asking is my DH is rather demanding and always makes me feel like im a bad mum and not doing enough for my child, [b'>like now he is saying im not making enough effort with the teachers to ensure that they take 'special' care of LO while at school.[/b'> Or any bit of 'undesirable' behaviour (ie normal toddler playing up,nothing serious) that comes from LO and he blames me, says things like..'the teachers will get fed up with behaviour like that and will indirectly start ignoring DS' and its my fault because I cant nip his behaviour in the bud. Its so darn stressful, not just having to deal with DS but then being blamed for every single thing! Sorry ladies for the long post I'd like to know if that kind of thing works, I don't believe it does in BC schools, but I could be wrong.. You'll probably find that your son is behaving perfectly well at school and just playing up at home. As to having sufficient interaction with the teacher, in the mornings, she'll be needing to get her class settled and at pick-up time, she probably just wants to get off home to see to her own family, so the less you bother her the better ;) In a way, the less you have to do with the teacher, other than as you say, being friendly and cordial with her, the better as this means you son isn't causing any problems :) ETA: Love Claire's suggestion :D edited by simpleasabc on 17/10/2012

I think that's her point, TDB and the buildings in MC are absolutely nothing like council estates in Sarf London. BTW, MW, the link you posted to Brixton took me nowhere.

In the case of The Town Centre, the lack of parking space for Spinneys' shoppers is merely due to DBS parents delivering their offspring to school and taking up parking spaces that real clients require. Nah, its due to people going to the mosque - the parking lot is not built for both store and mosque. Doesn't apply to morning drop-off round the backside, and probably not to afternoon pick up in the same place, either.

Rents are increasing because the UAE's economy is great at the moment, especially when comparing it to other parts of the world. As more residents arrive, and desirable property is less available, rents will continue to steadily increase at the levels they are increasing at now. The subtle differences you can notice around you if you are not looking on economist websites :) are the increase in traffic, lots of chat in the school playground about increasing rents and less availability, 90+% hotel occupancy, less people you know leaving because of redundancy, less school places, [b'>harder to get parked at the supermarket etc etc. [/b'> Not a bubble, just a good healthy steady economy! In the case of The Town Centre, the lack of parking space for Spinneys' shoppers is merely due to DBS parents delivering their offspring to school and taking up parking spaces that real clients require.

Emaar could take their pick on names and numbers for massages, music lessons, drivers, maids, babysitting, gardening, etc. services from the three notice boards at Geant AR... Or just start with those who have outstanding Service fees ;) [b'>It's the Dept of Immigration, not Emaar. umm - and they're not connected at all, are they????? [/b'> Get the errant LL in jail; then give them a bill - can't get released till all things paid..... I've no idea, does Emaar run the Dept of Immigration? How do you get the errant LL in jail when he is not in the country and has handed over the management to an absconding agent?

Clearly you've never been on a Sarf London council estate, MrsWhippy :D Lol; sorry MotorCity looks like streatham council estates Hey I lived in Streatham for a short while! On a leafy Victorian terraced street I will have you know! OK so I nearly got mugged by Tooting Bec Common and there were more fried chicken shops than you could shake a stick at but there WAS a Waitrose and an Organic Farmers Market 10 mins down the road in Balham.... South London on the whole is great BUT Motor City Looks like a south london council estate..... http://www.motorcity.ae/zoom_pic.asp?pic=uptown-zoom-12.jpg http://www.zoopla.co.uk/property-history/flat-64/dumbarton-court/brixton-hill/london/sw2-5lw/12595141 I repeat, you've never been to a Sarf London council estate, and TDB, a Victorian terraced house in St. Reatham is hardly the same as a council estate anywhere :D

I don't think they come in the mail any more, I think you get an SMS to collect it from the Deira PO when it's ready, but I'm not sure. Our new ones took between 2 and 6 weeks to be ready, don't know about re-registering, I'm sorry. edited by simpleasabc on 16/10/2012

I'm totally confused by this, as I tried to re-register my number with Du the other day and they told me I didn't need to and didn't give me any reason why - I came away under the impression that it was because I had already registered it under 2 years ago, but I may well have just made it up as I couldn't get a coherent reply. Aha, perhaps some clarification from du website FAQ for "My Number, My Identity": "7. I did not register my line yet, as I did not receive the message inviting me to register. Will I be suspended by October 17? If you did not receive a message notifying you to register and update your line, you do not have to worry now and you will not be suspended on October 17th. Only when you receive an SMS notification for your registration, you will need to register your line. 8. Do I have to update and register my identification documents if I have not yet received the invitation message from du? If you did not receive the message from du notifying you to come register, you will not be suspended. [b'>However, you can promptly register your line whenever it is convenient to you or you can wait till you receive the notification from us. [/b'>" The last sentence does not appear to be true, though.. edited by simpleasabc on 16/10/2012

I know, Mich, it's not really feasible, is it, although if the LL's are not legally allowed to rent out without the year's community charges being paid up front (like the tenants have to pay their rent up front), then why not?

My community charges are over 40k a year. Try and find a tenant who wants to pay THAT on top of their rent. As I said, the LL should charge a lower rent to reflect the payment of community charges by the tenant.

Hi, there, Alia! I hope you have a lovely time when you come over. I'm afraid I can't help you with specific answers to your questions, but why don't you go and have a look at the Entertainer website and check out which vouchers are in the books? I'm sure the family one has dune bashing in it and possibly the other things you mention. I know there are vouchers for Atlantis restaurants in the Fine Dining book, but maybe you don't mean that? Not sure about the Aquapark, but think Wild Wadi is in the Family one, too. Enjoy! http://www.theentertainerme.com/vouchers/

No. The tenant pays the DEWA bill. The occupier of the property, who is the end-user of the community services, pays the DEWA bill, whether they be tenant or owner. And yes, when paid by a tenant, the cost of the community service charges should be deducted from the rent charged by the landlord. After all, the occupier of the property has to pay the housing fees, whatever they are, via DEWA, so why not the community service charges?

My brother works in IT and moved his family to Vancouver from London (UK) 10 years ago. He started on a temporary contract but now is in permanent employment with local government. They are settled and happy there, but did a lot of research before taking the plunge. They, and the authorities, were certain he would find and keep a job. Many hoops to jump through before going. They are now Canadian citizens, and proud of it.

Nah, CA, white nowadays. Was v blonde as a child, then mousey, then my "friends" dyed my hair blonde (they told me it would wash out, it didn't) when I was 20 and I've been stuck having to cover up my roots ever since. When I think of the money hairdressers have got from me over the years. When I first left the UK for Geneva, I would fly back to my favourite London hairdresser - Tony, last seen on Lavender Hill, where are you now? (How's this for inane, ExP?)

Thanks ladies, I've been here 2 years and DD is 18 months. I do have a group of "baby" friends and a group of friends for me but everyone seems to busily be getting about their own lives and fitting play dates / ladies nights in around school runs, work, teenage weekends etc. I guess I've just lost my way... Personally, I had to stop going back to London to visit because the return to Geneva, where I was very unhappy, just got worse and worse every time. Your mileage may vary. Anyhow, if I were you, I would take every opportunity to travel with your husband that you can, before you become stuck at home unable to go anywhere except during school holidays. As to the charity work, many places here which take volunteers know that people may not necessarily be able to commit to regular weekly times, but as long as you let the charity know when you won't be able to help, it will be fine, I should think. Good luck, sorry I can't add anything more positive.

I only watched the first episode of season 1 and it didn't really grip me; maybe i have to give it a couple of episodes to get into it. Have you seen Last Resort; new series out in the states about a nuclear sub that goes AWOL.... seems ok so far. I think it's particularly interesting for those of us living here, as it puts both US and other points of view, without necessarily making all the goodies and baddies only on one side or the other. Thanks, will check out Last Resort when I've run out of my current stuff :) Which reminds me, if anyone likes Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie books, the Beeb did a series based on them called "Case Histories" last year, which I've only just caught up with :)

Derien, do you usually see animations on Google logos? This is strange, as the rest of us see animation when we click today's logo, then an arrow on the bottom right hand side of the panel, which when clicked produces another animation and then so on and so on to Winsor McCay..
