Not yet, MrsWhippy, I have different priorities from you, it conflicts with "The Good Wife" and "Homeland" :D

There you go :) Did you follow it through to the end, which is about Winsor McCay, the creator of Little Nemo (never heard of either of them till now, but that's my new fact for the day!)?

Lili34, unfortunately, as tenants, we have no clout with E***r, it is up to LL's who have paid the charges to complain and I doubt many of them care..

Agreed, Arch. I wondered if it was only D*****o who weren't allowed to act privately as they are contracted to E***r and whether there might be other private contractors who would be allowed in? It seems not, and I cannot get over the potential health hazard this will cause. I heard of someone who is chasing their LL who is abroad, who says the fees have been paid, but apparently E***r has no record of payment - or the LL is being economical with the truth. -:(

As someone else has mentioned, how would people recently arrived in Dubai know about the many pitfalls of renting here, particularly from an absentee landlord via an agent who doesn't expect to have to do anything for their commission, if EW didn't vent from time to time? The procedures here are so different from many other places in the world - the year's rent up-front is an enormous shock for many people, and tenants have virtually no rights here at all, compared to other countries (I write as a landlord in Europe and a tenant here).

I'm sorry, I couldn't find anything about this, but when I checked on Amazon, I found the author's Christian name is Michael, not Martin, but it doesn't really help much in finding out anything more. There are no references to either films or TV programmes based on the Gone series of books, though.

Why is it that when I go food shopping the shop keeps extra money because the smallest coins they have are 25fils? It rarely works in my favour! (it may only be 25fils, but multiply it by the number of times it happens each year and for the shops that makes huge amounts) Why don't you use a credit card when you go food shopping? :\:

Ah, the joys of adblocker :) tell me more - what's adblocker?? It's now got dog food ads - must have seen my posts about the dog's first birthday! Did she have a lovely birthday?! It's called AdBlockerPlus and it's a little add-on in the Firefox browser, which does what it says in its title :) Not sure if it is available in other browsers, but I rarely see any ads I don't want to see on FB or many other sites ;)

Glad it looks as if you're going to be sorted, LeicsExpat. For future reference, I think that various documents such as marriage and birth certificates have to be attested by the UAE Embassy in the country in which they were issued. So, when we moved from Geneva, we had to send our marriage certificate to England, where we had been married, to get the Apostille from the FCO and then it had to be attested by the UAE Embassy, whereas our daughter's birth certificate, having been issued in Geneva, had to have an Apostille from the commune where she was born and then the attestation from the UAE Consulate in Geneva. Good luck with the move!

I think is better for a baby's room to be cooler - you can always cover them up if they seem to be feeling the cold. I would go with what you have read.

Quakers make a product called "steel cut oats" as well as their usual rolled oats, apparently. http://www.quakeroats.com/products/hot-cereals/steel-cut-oats.aspx Your guess is as good as mine as to whether they're available here.

is it good? Haven't seen any of it..... Its fab! Season 1 is on Showtime now i think and Season 2 has just started airing in the US. It is one of the best i have seen for a long time. Damien Lewis and Clare Danes are in it Agreed about Homeland (though still loving the Good Wife) but was a bit disappointed by the most recent epi, didn't find it was up to the standard of the rest. Don't get the shock horror factor of that video being found.. We knew it existed, it was prepared for after the suicide bid, why wouldn't it be in the hands of Abu Nazir and his followers?

Thanks, AnonDubai. Do you know why many people are talking as if they have been "declared" already? No. Has the Islamic month started yet? Now there's a question.. I've no idea why you're asking that. Looks as if Zul-Qa'dah began a week ago. Is that what you mean?

Those cyclists on the wrong side of the road do my head in completely - I presume they do it on the same principle as pedestrians walking towards oncoming cars to avoid accidents on pavementless roads, but it doesn't seem to work for bikes, particularly as the majority don't have lights on their bikes, which makes them doubly dangerous at night. edited by simpleasabc on 11/10/2012

In that case, Dawn, I'm sure it's worth going to a doctor about it, if only to set your mind at rest - sorry, I don't know who to recommend. Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

If they were called "Jim'll Fix It", OK, but the cumbersome title they now have makes it plain they have no affliliation to a well-known dead DJ.

Have just looked further and find that about 10% (or 20%, depending on what you read) of cases of dementia can be reversed, depending on its cause. In cases of vascular or senile dementia, or Alzheimer's, or C-JD, or AIDS or Parkinson's related dementia, for example, you won't be getting a cure any time soon.

Don't worry, unless she is showing symptoms of illness or pain in her back or legs, it's quite normal for her not to be walking yet. She's obviously perfectly happy scooting and one day she will decide she wants to try her legs out and off she'll go! A lot of babies never bother to crawl, they find scooting much better until they feel like walking! Absolutely no need for a doctor, in my opinion - unless, as I say, there's an underlying issue you're already concerned about. This article should reassure you, also, particularly as it says babies who bottom-shuffle before crawling tend to walk later: http://www.babycentre.co.uk/baby/development/walking/ edited by simpleasabc on 10/10/2012

You can delete one of them, if you want :) My Greek mother-in-law used to make a delicious okra dish in tomato sauce - if you just google Greek recipe for okra, you'll find it. I also see a Greek chicken and okra dish which sounds nice. Maybe if you think of okra as Ladies' Fingers, you'll like it better? :) Sorry, no help with radish, only ever eat it raw.

Gosh, I hate flying and if I were in your mother's position, I'd be delighted to be upgraded for a surprise - the flight from Europe is quite long enough for an upgrade to be well worth it, I would think. Sorry, can't help with how to go about doing it in secret, but agree that if you explained to Emirates, they would probably do their best to help.

Words fail me, Captain America - we are helpless in the face of it. Hope things improve for your f-i-l, things are definitely better for us now my mother is safe in a home - but of course, she hates it and is in denial, trying continuously to burrow her way out..
