If you might be going out for a good steak, say twice more before the end of the year, I suggest you invest in the Entertainer Fine Dining book and your husband won't have a fit of the conniptions at the end of the evening:) We love Hunter's at the Westin, where we use Entertainer vouchers to make the bill a little less pricey.. You could also try the Meat Co in the Souk Madinat, though it has been getting bad reviews on here recently. Also in the Fine Dining book :) Have a lovely evening and good luck with the new baby.

Hi, Verdeque, and welcome to Dubai! For making video contact, it seems to be best if you download and install Skype to your computer and/or mobile phone before you come here. For watching television, there are quite a few sites where you can download programmes free very shortly after they have been broadcast, without needing a vee pea enn to watch them - and also, there's You tube, of course. Google things like watch TV free on line links and you should find some useful sites. If you feel you won't be able to do without a vee pea enn, google for the abbreviation and add the words shield and expat, not necessarily in that order. Hope that's cryptic enough to avoid trouble.

Dilys, you have to register with Salik online first, using the number you got from the RTA when you first got your Salik. You can call them up and register, they're very helpful, and then log in. Oh, looking at this, seems you can register online: https://customers.salik.ae/app/RegisterOnline.aspx

We find Ikea mattresses really uncomfortable, October. Tempur is a revelation after a lifetime of suffering with back-pain (which is back for me as I've been sleeping on an Ikea mattress for a month!).

it happened to a far friend since she used paypal for the first time. and yes, paypal team confirmed it was a scam. tough luck. no, sorry but luck had nothing to do with it....... LOL EG.....hilarious really.....I am waiting for the day when they scam me... we all are.......... :D It'll never happen :D

Could you start again with a new contract for a different sum of money but with the same tenants (if they wanted to stay and you wanted them to stay), perhaps? I'd ask the bank what their intention is with that clause.

Hi, DB. I'm no expert, but I can just give you the benefit of my own experience. I gave up a job I disliked when dorter was born because I was breastfeeding and it was easier. Since then, I've worked on and off but have been unable to find a job I enjoyed. If I had my time again, I would have worked whilst dorter was a baby, a toddler and even until she was 7 or 8 years old. Then I would have stopped, as I have found they need more "parenting" the older they get.. A word of warning, though, whether you decide to send her to a nursery or to have a live-in maid to look after her, she will learning her first language and behaviour from the person with whom she spends most time and you might not like the results. <em>edited by simpleasabc on 07/08/2012</em>

One of these every few months :) Better than text speak, though (N E 1 no wot I mean? V r @ d..)' or my pet hate is space punctuation (it was so hot ! I could feel the sun on my face .). Why the space before the punctuation? It's wrong not to leave a space after the last word and before the punctuation in French, and maybe in other Romance languages as well. Lucky you in advertising getting it! My pain when I was in advertising [b'>was the clients opinion[/b'> on what it should/must be, when they insist they are correct (when they are not, and you are simply trying to sell their product based on research of their market), and when they want something which costs more but want to fit it to less (ie they have ad space for 10 words but send you a page length 'ad'). edited by AmyAus82 on 06/08/2012 Not strictly spelling, but still.. I don't know whether there used to be a pm function on EW, but there isn't one now. You could try putting up a message for the EW you want to contact asking them to contact you on your/put up their munged email address, but this is frowned upon by EW, if you look at the FAQ.

Don't know at all, BM - I thought there was one visa for all the Schengen countries, not individual visas for each member country? You're best off asking the Spanish Consulate/Embassy directly, I think. <em>edited by simpleasabc on 04/08/2012</em>

I think you have to have your ticket and hotels booked before you can apply, BM, so I suppose if you have that already in place, you can apply now for next year. I also believe that you have to fly in to the country from which you get the Schengen Visa, but that you can move around freely afterwards and you don't have to return from there.

The traffic is much better nowadays, but you still have to remember to add about 10 minutes onto your journey time for getting out of the area to SZR - so not too bad for Media City!

Aquarius at the Dubai Creek Yacht Club do a lovely mostly seafood orientated brunch. It is quite quiet and no entertainment so a large group would take over the place. Have heard the one at Movenpick JBR good. Courtyard by Marriott quite quiet, too, also a bit far away :) Al Qasr is magnificent and would be a great way to say goodbye but not at all cheap..
