Thanks, ladies, we followed GPS instructions from Emirates Road, narrowly avoiding having an accident because of rubber-neckers stopping to look at the jack-knifed lorry in the middle of lane 4. The traffic was atrocious and it took 55 mins from the Meadows to the restaurant. Once we got there, it was worth it, though. I was a bit disappointed that the fish of the day (snapper) was gone, but enjoyed a lovely fresh piece of hamour. AED212 for two, including Lebanese starters, salad and Arabic bread, afore-mentioned hamour and a kind of mixed grill with languoustines, prawns and fillet of hamour and a couple of fresh fruit juices. Clientele was a mixture, including Emiratis.

I know its a real icky one. He is an only child, she smothers him and all through his single years until getting married in his 40s he paid for everything. I didnt care when I was working as I was earning much more than him, but now that Im financially dependent on him, its become an issue. Its cultural too as the older folk in his culture do expect to be kept by the children Hilsbils, I sort of know what you mean - my ma-in-law died in March and we are still paying off the large debts she incurred. Strangely, I miss her as she used to be before she started spending all our money (when we had none in the first place) :)

I thought I replied earlier, maybe on the wrong thread, sorry. I just said I think you need to look up house clearance in your local Yellow Pages and they will take everything away for you. You may land up having to pay them to clear things away, but it will surely cost less to do that than to put stuff in storage.

Oh, yes, after my recent escapade, he wants us to do the Emirates Driving Institute course, asap. A whole day out in this heat seems a bit much to me, I'd prefer to leave it till later in the year.

Actually, Sue62, I do give the villa address for documents to be sent via courier and of course, for Shop & Ship. well yes, i meant family members... Me too, in some cases :) My mother still thinks it's a deliberate slight that she doesn't have our physical address here, she doesn't get it even after having visited us :)

Are you absolutely sure the arrangement you had was 100% legal? I'd make sure of that before I try involving people high up the food chain. what do you mean exactly? You mean that sub-letting rooms is not welcome!? of course it is illegal. crikey. even local guys are having properties and renting out the rooms to different people, even mixed sexes. Doesn't mean it's legal, though, does it?

I love Jamie's Italian in Festival City. Really relaxed and Mediterranean feeling. Children welcome, but not too noisy. Excellent food, fish particularly. I really recommend it for Friday lunch if you feel like grape but not a brunch.

We are in the long process of getting this established - it has taken me two years to convince my brother in Canada that we need PoA's for our mother and a further 9 months to get anything sorted, with the complications of living abroad for all of us (my cousin in Norway also has it as he is nearest and travels to England most frequently) and problems such as the Royal Mail being on strike and originals being lost.. We still have to get all the signatures witnessed and the PoA registered, which will take at least another 3 months, so it will have been about a year for us, all told, when they are finally in place. Clearly, our situation is different from yours, but it's best to get it in place sooner rather than later. The minute my daughter is 18, I'm putting PoA's in place for me as I don't want her to have to go through the hassle we're having. If you want to talk anymore, I think you have my number? I know pleny of people who have had treatment, including surgery, at the Iranian hospital and were very happy with it. I didn't think I'd dreamt I'd heard good things about it. Ishehere obviously has different expectations.

Thanks SB - if we have to pay we will but don't want to feel we are being ripped off at a private hospital if the same treatment is available at a lessor cost in a public hospital. I think the Iranian Hospital in Dubai has a good reputation, and set up on a charitable basis, maybe worth a look? have you been there?? I wouldn't send my worst enemy if they were dying! Really? No, sorry, have never been there myself - you'd better scrub that, JA :(

I've no contacts, but we have recently frequently booked a car at LHR through e-bookers and every time, their "selection" at the lowest price has been Sixt. Aren’t people paid more in London to compensate for travel and accommodation costs being higher than other parts of the country? Used to be something called "London Weighting", I think specifically for teachers and nurses, but it is no longer. Hasn't existed for yonks :(

A dictator isn't a monarch though. ? A monarch can be a dictator? Yes that's true enough. The trouble with monarchy, for me, is it doesn't make enough sense that the next in line really is good enough for the job simply because he/she is the son/daughter of so and so. This goes for any country. At least with the elected, they can always be booted out at the end of their term. Also do Brits really believe the monarchy has a [b'>supernatural legitimacy[/b'>?
