Depending on the age of your children, I would also suggest the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Also, I believe Anne Frank's house would be very interesting for older children, though I didn't have time to wait in the queue the day I tried to get into it.. <em>edited by simpleasabc on 09/05/2012</em>

greggs at glasgow airport was closed last time i came thru? gutted! was hoping to have my last bridie/steak slice fix before i left! spurs seemed to have gone down last time i tried it :-( muji mr price home old navy (used to be one yonks ago in DCC) superdrug [b'>M&S/Woolies SA food hall - but the reason for both is not so much the suppliers as a) the dietery - halal - laws here - and the storage ie. how long sitting at the port/harbour here - but a girl can dream :-)[/b'> We got all excited when M&S opened a branch in Geneva a few years ago, but they weren't allowed to have a fresh food hall either for health and safety reasons, as they refused to use local suppliers and had to import from England. Not only in Dubai :)

You were driving under 110 km/hr knowing full well the speed limit is 120km/hr thereby travelling at a rate of speed more than 10 km/hr less than the rate of traffic. I stand by my post. You were travelling too slow. You should never force someone to undertake you. You always need to move to the right to allow him to overtake you. I'm sorry, you don't make sense. There is a minimum speed, as well as a maximum one, allowed here in the two innermost lanes (if not all of them, it is not made clear by the traffic signs). The OP could not move to her right as it was full of lorries and was not forcing the guy behind her to undertake, he should just have overtaken from the outside, in the third of many lanes, instead of hassling her. I am relieved that at least 2 people have some road sense.... Thought I was going gaga.. :):) Am wondering if JackyD is confused because she is used to driving on the other side of the road from here? That's all I can charitably think ;)

SPF100 brollies, now that's a great idea :) No, I wouldn't inflict that kind of walk on small children. I don't even take the dog for a walk in this heat, myself. (OK, I'm bad at walking the dog anyway, so maybe that doesn't count :( )

Dont know how much to go by these ratings coz when i asked for feedback on Wellington International School I only got bad reviews and feedback as a result we dropped the idea of moving our son there. And on this list its tops :-( Don't know when you asked, Barbie doll, but if it was recently and I'd seen it, I would have told you that my daughter has been in the Sixth Form there since last September and we are very happy with the quality of her education and the environment she is in. I can't speak to the rest of the secondary school, nor the primary school, but am very impressed with the Principal and her staff in the Sixth Form. I'm pretty sure, though, that the "outstanding" rating has more to do with the standard of Arabic teaching throughout the school than anything else.

I got a job after an interview in a hotel room at Claridge's. I'd gone to the interview assuming it would be in the coffee shop but was sent to the guy's room. Nothing inappropriate, I discovered later he was just stingy and didn't want to pay for a cup off coffee in the lobby :) Extremely difficult guy to work for, but at least I got two months living on the Upper East Side of New York out of it, so good experience!

When I had my two miscarriages, both in Switzerland, I was told that the rate of miscarriage generally was one in two pregnancies. Many of those would be such early miscarriages that they would go almost undiagnosed unless you were very aware of changes to your body, I believe. Good luck, TheMrs, try to relax and not worry about it. I know that's easier said than done.

Thanks, CP. He said he was reducing the fine from two to one violations (not sure what they were in the first place) because I told him I was taking my daughter to the hospital, so maybe he was nice enough not to give me black points. In the meantime have discovered an unpaid speeding ticket from Christmas Eve. Presume husbad was driving my car :(

I'm not a regular at Park & Shop, but the last time I was in the Jumeirah one I found wholemeal spelt bread baked on the premises and it was absolutely delicious, will be going to get it again! Anyone know if they sell it in the branch in the Greens?

When we were in Switzerland, my husband used to travel quite a bit to the US and with the exchange rate as it was then, there were only a few Francs difference between buying an Apple product in the US and buying it in Switzerland. I thought it was an established Apple policy that their products should cost the same worldwide. As I said, if you check on Amazon UK, products are the same price as here give or take a bit for the exchange rate. Maybe it's worth buying an Apple product if you're actually in the US but otherwise, if you add the cost of shipping and import duty, it probably works out the same as buying it here.

Apple products are price-fixed worldwide, so buying in duty-free makes no difference. We've just bought a MacBook Pro with an English keyboard here at Sharaf DG for the same price as it would have been from the UAE online store and the same as it would have been anywhere in the world, with a slight difference because of exchange rates.. The equivalent from Amazon UK would have cost me AED100 more, plus shipping costs, in fact. <em>edited by simpleasabc on 06/05/2012</em>

I just wanted to check is the Freedom store still at the Mirdif Center? How do you find the prices compared to Australian prices? Does anyone know if they have a website for the Dubai store with Dubai prices? Thanks:) They have a big sale on now. Have no idea about how the prices compare to Australia, as I have only been to it at Mirdiff. Sadly the sale is over! I popped in this morning to buy a couple of cushions I had seen in the sale and nothing is one sale anymore! The cushions I like are now back to the original price, which is about 3 x the sale price :( I only get sale cushions from them :) The ones we buy regularly are lovely but we won't pay their original asking price :)

What about busses and the Metro? If it is late in the evening I ,as a parent would preffer though, to pick up my teenager. and I would also preffer if they travelled in groups with the taxi, especially if they are girls, some of those taxi drivers give even me the creeps... Completely agree, my 17 year old daughter often wants to take a taxi on her own here and I don't let her, even in daylight. Much prefer to act as chauffeur myself.

I don't know of any, but suggest you do a google search for Dubai summer deals and you might find something good. Nearer the time, there will be Ramadan deals, but I'm not sure if they've been announced yet. I inquired for a special offer for one night at Al Qasr during Ramadan and was offered the price of just under 4,000 per night for a couple..

You might find you can only pay with a US (or non UAE) card on that site. I have that issue here with Du, who won't let me pay online with a foreign cc.

My husband travels extensively in this region and never has any idea of how long it will take to get a new business visa issued, so doesn't makes plans until the visa is in place. Last time he needed to travel to India, the consulate had kept his passport for 3 weeks and he had to get it back from them in a hurry in order to be able to travel home to arrange his mother's funeral. In other words, it's not just the US consulate here which is slow.

The top pet one, the one withe the most attachments. Can't remember the model number. Will definitely head to ace this week as a karcher steam cleaner was next on my list. Then you should try the one which come's with the free iron...i love the iron , reduce my ironing time to have . Does it iron up the sand? :)

The man of the house (the one who doesn't know one end of a hoover from the other) is an engineer and believes that the Dyson is a piece of engineering magic. I think the Entertainer Family book has two for one vouchers? Otherwise, negotiate and they'll come down. Can't remember who we've been with, sorry. I think the word "Oasis" came into it.. They were very good.

Div, have a fabulous time, I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Please do use the Entertainer Fine Dining vouchers for one night here, where you get a lovely "spectacle" with your meal: http://www.meydanhotels.com/babalshams/dining.htm There are also vouchers for the Indian restaurant, which smelt good when we went past it. A small reservation, when we last stayed there recently, we thought the service was not as good as it had been in the past and the place was looking pretty shabby. We don't believe the "new" owners are doing as good a job as the originals and it feels as if it's not being properly maintained and the staff are not as well-trained nor as happy as they were before - I had to go and find shampoo and shower gel from a house-keeping trolley because there were only bath salts in the room and in the same room, the complimentary dates, chocolates and pastries were either missing or used.. Not good when you are paying so much. The whole place didn't have the same sumptuous feel it had the first time we visited it, just after it had changed hands.

SEY83, we have some friends who took the day to go to RAK to get their ID cards for the first time, a year or so ago - much quicker than getting it done in Dubai. Don't know if it's possible to do that nowadays and for renewals. Might be worth looking into it?

We've found Cellfixx on SZR v good in the past. Sometimes, they can fix it while you wait :) Best to go along rather than call as they rarely answer their phones. I think their charges are quite reasonable, though the last time we went was a while ago.
