Thanks for the reply. Im already signed up with Self care and been checking the site every other day and its still showing my old bill from last year. Seems no one there knows whats going on!! What a nuisance for you. Be careful, if you've got the broadband/net/telly deal with them, they can cut you off without warning when they discover you haven't paid - they did it to us our first month here because we were a day late paying the bill, which, of course, we hadn't received..

Sign up for the Du self care system and get them to send you monthly email reminders to check the bill. At least that way you can see your bills and keep track. https://selfcare.du.ae/selfcare-portal-web/nonLoggedInSelfcare.portal Can't help you with the high cost, I find Du charges outrageous, they tell you one thing when you sign up with them and when you actually get the bill, it costs an enormous amount more for extremely plausible reasons they happened not to mention when selling you the plan.

No, you're not alone! I'm not embarrassed to admit I have no idea what is going outside of my four walls lol! I *[i'>WAS[/i'>* wondering why you haven't complained about the sand on the floors! Luckily we are on a high enough floor that this doesn't occur much. And even looking at the patio, there's virtually no sand out there, either. Besides I have been too busy complaining about my boss as of late to complain about much else :) Oh, gosh, yes, how are you feeling today? What did the doc say? How's your car?

how about talking to your Dr, see if he has any other patients that he could pass your details on to.... ...I tried that too, but the doctor doesn't want to pass on any information between patients due to confidentiality. Would it not be possible to put up a notice saying what you said here, in your Doctor's waiting room, with his permission?

I *love* Beebers, typos and all. Hugs girlie! Chocs, nothing substantial to add, but just thinking if these people are going to bring in the police at the drop of a hat, and you cannot afford anyone looking in, maybe just move? Back home, the same dog poo controversy is raging in our gated community. I think perhaps it is best to train your pets to poo in your garden or a corner of your apartment and take them out walking separately. I am not a dog owner so I wouldn't really know if this was doable, but well, my two. No criticism of Beebers meant at all, and thanks for the explanation of the Texanism, which would imply to me that my political leanings are loony ;) (Well, that would be about right, to Texans, of course!) I'd probably have understood "went postal" better:) Our dog poos in a certain area of our garden and goes for walks as a separate thing. We always take a poop bag with us on walks, just in case. So yes, Chocobella, it is possible. Since we didn't have the dog when she was a puppy, I can only presume the same person who made her terrified of most people also trained her well in that way.

Oh, I'm glad it's not just me who's puzzled by this - we came into Abu Dhabi airport on Sunday night and circled for half an hour above it with no explanation as to why. Then, on the way home, I couldn't work out whether it was fog or sand that made visibility not too good.. Could it have been because of a sandstorm?

We were quoted 6 weeks from Geneva, and that's about the time it took. Bear in mind that you (the working partner/sponsor) must have a valid work contract/labour card and residence visa in place before you can sign a contract for a villa. Serviced apartments would be the best idea for the interim - are there no quarantine regulations for bringing cats into the UAE? I mean, wouldn't the cats be kept somewhere anyway before you could pick them up to move them into your home in Dubai?

Most of the schools that offer IB for sixth form will be offering BTEC soon enough. I know plans are in place for a few of the 'top' schools here. That means that there will be something for everyone. It's a sensible thing to do, giving an alternative to the academic path which is not suitable for all students. Swerving now, I thought schooling was mandatory here for children till they reached the age of 18, but looking at the UAE Education website, I seem to be wrong, it is compulsory only until Grade 9, which is age 15, isn't it?

Wellington International School is starting BTEC in the Sixth Form in the coming September, because there's a need for vocational courses to be taught at that level in Dubai. I'm sorry, I don't know which subjects it will offer. It's a great, inclusive, place and as long as your lad passes his GCSE's, he should be accepted there for BTEC, I would think. The kids work well together in the Sixth Form and we've not seen any intellectual snottiness. <em>edited by simpleasabc on 13/03/2012</em>

It sounds to me as if moving to RAK might be the sensible thing to do, but I don't know how different life would be for you there and I've only been there on the way to other places and don't remember anything about it, so can't comment at all. How would it affect your lives if you were to move there? Would it be a bad commute for your husband? Would you give up the idea of getting a teaching job? I see you are already asking about RAK schools, so you don't have to travel too far with the children. Good luck, whatever you decide and sorry to hear of your troubles.

And which potato are you ladies using? Maybe i am using the wrong d*rn potato? Semolina makes a revolting pudding. You need potatoes which are good for baking. Charlotte, of the ones readily available here, are fine for roasting.

Does the KHDA only cover Dubai or the whole UAE? Should imagine it only covers Dubai - the acronym seems to stand for Knowledge and Human Development Authority Dubai and I can't find a reference to a KHDA in any of the other emirates.

Sometimes sh*t happens, you have to react in a rational manner - revenge or justice in cases like these is not worth the price it will cost you. I'm understanding that they are trying to find out how to get a fair financial settlement in the circumstances. I doubt they would go to the expense of taking the company to court, but someone mentioned below that even a simple letter from a labour lawyer might do the trick in getting the company to play fair with the benefits and the cost of that could be worth a try.

Just had to pay2000 for DS to continue. They say will come off 1st term fees That happens all over the world in private schools, I believe. Now I'm used to it, I suppose it's fair enough, given the demand for places in certain schools, although in a place like Dubai where people are likely to move on unexpectedly, it might get costly.

Did he get a termination letter? leaving the worforce for 7 consecutive days or more will make him lose his end of benefits. If he did not get a termination letter means he is intentionally leaving the workforce and can turn against him But if they walked him out and refused to give him a termination letter (which I wouldn't be surprised at after what Keno has said already)? Is there anything to be done in that case? The way they were rushing to have him resigns seems that this does not make any difference. Keno needs to seek a lawyer asap. It's a game of nerves now, husband should stay there and fight that he is well performing until they terminate him. Most importantly he should not agree to sign any documents stating that he is underperforming. Also, missing work for more than 7 consecutive days will make him lose his end of benefits package. I hope Keno can get this information to him in time, though it sounds as if he had a sensible plan for today, anyway.

Well, I am not sure for DSO Free Zone but breach of employment laws are taken VERY seriously in DIFC and Media City. Might be worth asking if DSO has a legal counsel on staff? Interesting, and I do hope helpful for Keno and her husband. I'm trembling with fury at the fake concern immediately followed by "you're resigning".

I think people are missing the point here. Yes I agree it would be better for him to be made redundant but if he is underperforming (as hinted by the OP as the reason for the company wanting him to resign) then they can sack him which would be 100 times worse for the him and the OP than if he did resign. Not financially. Financially he would be better if was sacked? YES. Could you explain how that works, please?

I left half my purchases in London at my mother's flat last week, I was running so late trying to get everything done and packing, but one thing I didn't forget was the small bottle of Silver Spoon red food colouring, if that's any use to you? Does it work? As I have the wilton one as no matter how much red I add it stays pink!!!!!! No idea, just got it because it looked nice and I was thinking of Red Velvet cupcakes!! That happened to me about 10 years ago in Geneva - I met a lovely Australian lady with whom I really "clicked", but she left to go back to Canberra a couple of months later. Since that disappointment, I haven't invested so much in making good friends as the feeling of loss when they leave is horrible.
