Dubai London Clinic does have specialist paediatricians, would you not feel happy consulting one of them at either Festival City or Umm Suqeim? http://www.dubailondonclinic.com/

I called them but they say they don't have one, but I thought Dr Smiley was as she's a family doctor but I'm not overly sure. But thanks for that. Dr Smiley left Dubai a little while ago. I'm sorry, I don't have experience of paediatricians here. I know a lovely American gynae, though, but that's not much help.. Sorry.

Their web site doesn't work properly so I can't calculate the cost. Bit premature of them to advertise like that if they haven't got it all working properly..

oh the shameles ad has been deleted.... lol what was it? It was for a company who offered the service of going to McD's to get your food for you and deliver it to you. Does anyone remember what it was called? We were thinking about trying it for a Burger Fuel burger.. Would have been interested to know their fee.

Thanks for the information, Mahr, I didn't know that. Am so used to getting messages asking me if I want to sell my car stuck to the window that I think I thought it was OK to advertise your car for sale that way, too :)

Hello Ladies especially simplesabc Not exactly on topic but i may be coming to Dubai and as you mentioned blood pressure can i please ask can you buy them over the counter in Dubai? Hi, Lady D, do let us know if you make it over here! I used to use Lodoz 10mg BP tablets from Switzerland before I came here. As they don't have them as such in Dubai, the doc looked it up for me and prescribed Concor 5mg and Concor Plus 5mg, as being the equivalent. You can also go to a pharmacy and they will look up the medicine for you and sell it to you over the counter, no problem.

This one is supposed to shed 10 - 17lbs in a week! Never tried it though: http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/~jajoo/gmdiet.html That's one version of what I call the cabbage soup diet though I see you can substitute other vegetables. The one I used added pearl barley to the soup (double yuck for me) and used water or a vegetable stock cube instead of onion soup mix. Am feeling sick just looking at it. Really like your Chemical Diet, Alison, and I'd be doing it now to kick start myself if only grapefruit didn't interact badly with the pills I take for high blood pressure.

The disgusting cabbage soup diet works in the short term, but you tend to put the weight back on immediately you stop it. I think it only works because it's so revolting you don't want to eat anything.

Trigg, my comment about rivalry often being from women was based on my personal observations & experience. At most gatherings, ask any of the guys afterwards they will be totally unaware anything was "going on". i.e. will have no idea someone 'blanked' someone else until you mention it... ask the guys themselves more often than not they are happy to talk shop with each other, swap tips & advice and that's it... all the talk of 'so and so should have/should not have got u/g' is mostly (from my observation) on the side of the ladies... When I said some are more interested in lifestyle/family than u/g is what I meant the same as your comment that some just 'enjoy the ride'. I verrrrry rarely have seen men 'get into it' at a gathering about this kind of stuff.... it always seems to be the ladies who are on about it. For example, at one gathering another girl asking me what was 'wrong' with my (at the time) o/h because he hadn't done an uograde.... err, nothing, he was settling into a new town so wanted to wait. Later when I asked him how his night was, he said it was great, they talked about sports the whole time!! Basically, what I mean to say is, majority of the time the DH of the 'nasty ones' has no idea the DW is saying some of the things being said. Again, as I said, this is what I have observed. Obviously, there are exceptions. And just FYI, a good few of them are reading/doing the crossword/updating their manual. I'm sure it wasn't an insult, many of them do stuff like this to keep awake on those long boring night flights, not like us we can walk around and go chat to each other in different cabins, They're pretty much stuck where they are unless they get bunk rest! Men are from Venus, Women are from Mars.. or something similar.

Anyone listen to "Cabin Pressure" and find it funny? http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00lmcxj we have been listening to cabin pressure for years now. Out of curiosity, if you don't mind my asking, are you an airline family with someone at the pointy end? no but we have the podcasts and have listened to it when it started. I love it and am indoctrinating my daughter to love it, too (our male is an aeronautical engineer with no yearnings to be pilot). I think we may be part of a different secret society from the Emirates pilots' wives ;)

Ron Paul all the way for me. Oddly, in independent polls from non-biased media, he does the best against Obama. What impresses me most about him beyond the truth of his message, is that he has never once contradicted himself in his voting history in Congress. not-a-once. His message has been the same for the past 30 years. The government is stealing from the people, as always, and chipping away at the civil liberties one by one, and no one seems to notice or care. A lot of people say he'll never get the nomination. They are probably right. But that doesn't mean he is not the best guy for the job. Oh--and he has gotten more donations from active US military than all other candidates added together, plus Obama. He doesn't take money from lobbyists. period. The media completely tries to shut him out. Wanting to shut down the Federal Reserve is not popular to the elite. You really have to google him, or look on youtube for his debate highlights and speeches if you want to get to know his message in an unbiased way. And his speeches from 20-30 years ago were the same. exactly the same message. Does not that show a certain lack of curiosity, development and flexibility?

HPV is not only spread through s*x, there are various other ways it can be spread from one person to another. The vaccine only targets a few strains of HPV, there are over 200. In Geneva, they target 13/14/15 year old girls as they are judged not to be having socks yet. I'm not sufficiently sure that the pros outweigh the cons for precisely the reason you mention, Chocs, and also because this vaccine has not been well tested and we would be using our daughters as guinea/p*gs, much as my generation was used for the Pill. Many of dorter's Genevan friends had the vaccination and quite a few suffered from unpleasant side effects. Also, nobody knows how long the immunity given by this vaccine will last. Too many queries for me.

Latitude is fantastic food and if you sit outside you have a slight view of the Burj al Arab. Beachcombers is on the beach by the sea, with the Burj Al Arab directly in front of you, but the food not nearly as good as at Latitude, in my experience, which wasn't a Friday brunch. Why not go to Latitude and take a stroll down to the beach afterwards?

Under The Tuscan Sun, Sense & Sensibility (The Ang Lee version with Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson) Which reminds me, I love also the dvd series of Pride and Prejudice, the one from the BBC. And Pride and prejudice is my comfort book. And I should be working now... Pride and Prejudice definitely my comfort book. Films, not so much.

Excuse me poking my nose in, I'm not an Emirates pilot's wife, nor any kind of pilot's wife, but I'm confused. In a post I can't find now, someone mentioned being shunned at a pilots and family get-together after they said their husband had a "seat at the pointy end of the plane" - doesn't that mean their husband was a pilot and if so why the shunning? edited by simpleasabc on 08/02/2012

I'm sorry, I have no recommendations, but I just wondered (forgive me if this sounds rude) - have you paid your most recent bill? The first month we were in our villa, we hadn't received the paper bill and didn't know you could get them online from Du, so were amazed when our TV stopped working completely. When we rang Du, we found out it was because our bill payment was a day overdue..

I'm afraid I can't advise you - I've a feeling that for each of the horror stories you read on here, there are many more families who are perfectly content with their maids. I'm so fed up with hourly paid maid agencies I'm even thinking of getting a live-in maid, but I really don't want the hassle that involves, nor to have someone else constantly in the house with us. One thing someone on here said that I remember is make sure that they use hot water to do the washing-up and clean the floors with :) That's a basic for you and me but something that apparently a lot of maids are not taught :)

I still see dogs as animals, and I see the zoo as a place for animals (not necessarily dogs of course). If you do not like the zoo here, that is another issue. The last thing I want in this life is for someones dog to jump on me, lick me, or possibly bite me, and to walk where it has pooped. All I am saying is why impose your habits and culture on the UAE culture. [b'>Why don't you rent some land, turn it into a pet park, charge a walking fee and there you go!![/b'> I'm a dog owner and walker who scoops up religiously and I utterly appreciate what you are all saying about dogs in parks where people take their children to play, and the beach, of course, as well. How feasible do you think it would be to do what AQ suggests? There would obviously be a huge take up on a dog park if it were in the right area, but how likely is it that the Dubai Municipality would sanction such a project in the first place? edited by simpleasabc on 08/02/2012

It might also be that as so far it's gottan a "no", if you give permission that he can do it later it might lose its attraction- kind of we want what we can't have!!! Yes, utterly agree, meant to say that myself.

Irooni, I would let him try boxing if you can find a class for his age. Or, tell him there are no boxing classes for his age but that he can do it when he's older and suggest an alternative where you can find classes that will take him, which he can do until he is old enough to do boxing. There was an excellent positive guide to not saying no to your children on here quite recently, by Anna-Panna, on the thread you started about children's rights and privileges. I would suggest using that tactic. He may really like the alternative and forget about boxing or he may continue to want to do it, in which case, mention poor old Muhammed Ali and many others whose lives were not improved because of their boxing prowess.. Of course, in between the wars and after WWII, boxing [b'>was[/b'> considered a way to improve yourself in the East End of London - a way for young lads who might have "gone bad" to have a sense of purpose in life and to fight their way out of the slums. edited by simpleasabc on 07/02/2012

I see dogs all day long on the beach in front of our house. I just assumed it was legal to walk them. Either you can walk them there or the police don't bother about it but I agree there should be more pet friendly areas. Husband and I are looking to get a dog or two and would love to do more than let them out in the garden. Shame. Which beach is this, please WB72? Are the dogs on leashes?
