Thanks Skykitty all very interesting. Especially as a question very similar to this was recently raised in the UK over a religiously observant Employee requesting not to serve pork/wine in a supermarket. I didn't see why this should be an issue especially being that many supermarkets have persons as young as 16 working checkout tills who are unable to serve alcohol due to their age in any case. However much public outcry ensued, the Daily Mail had a field day and eventually the supermarket in question revised their policy to say people with religious restrictions will be put on bakery or clothes checkouts wherever possible to avoid such issues. Agree with you. in Edgware Road recently and a veiled lady shouted at me (in Arabic) for buying a bottle of grape juice stating 'how dare I buy such a haram item in her country'. I kindly reminded her that it's MY country and I will do as I wish. UK has become to politically correct nowadays. edited by SJ1968 on 07/03/2014

I have to agree with Sarah, I go to NBar and I am so happy there, the girls are lovely, the music is nice and I get 3 girls at one time - in and out in 45 minutes. Personally - I have never ever had a good manicure from anyone whilst in the UK. Not compared to what I've had here. In UK I had to pay for the manicure on top of the Gellish. Not amused ha and the therapist didn't stop talking the entire time. The girls at Tips and Toes chat to me otherwise I listen to my Ipod Think you ladies slightly missing the point of the post. I'm not asking how your rate uk technicians, merely is there a market for 'mobile ' nail tech. Hahahaha - not doing a very good advertisement for yourself, are you? Twice you have been a little bit rude to people on this thread.....:-P Very true but I was too much of a coward to point it out. Wise words as usual from a wise lady DR :-)

Hi Ladies, fairly new to Dubai so looking for your advice. I have recently started working so am looking for someone to help with the housework but mainly come to the house every day and either walk our 2 dogs or let them out for the loo! Ideally I only think we need a few hours a day so was looking for a part timer, but am going through old threads that say this is illegal. I'm not against a full timer as we had a lady live-in in our previous country however we don't have the room here so would she would have to live out. Also do they have to be sponsored by us? Sorry to go over old ground but just need the rules laid out clear and simple! If you need live out only - there are three choices you have: 1) sponsor a live out maid yourself 2) hire a live out maid full time from an agency 3) just pay on a hourly basis for a maid from an agency (however, you may not get the same maid each time and some may not like dogs so questionable from that perspective) edited by SJ1968 on 07/03/2014

My ex husband brought in 800 Tailor to make him 2 shirts - after 26 days of waiting, they delivered at a cost of 950DHs and within two washes, buttons fell off and a hole appeared in one of the shirt seams. I would never dream of recommending them.

OP it is simples.... You either show your DH the Labor Law article mentioning or you both decide to pay her what you feel necessary (regardless of whether she has worked for you for six months or six years). Only you can decide. That's it!

We leave in 2 months and will be taking our 5 cats with us. Does anyone have any advice on how to start the process which I plan to do myself or recommendations of airlines from Dubai to Sofia please? Many thanks Hi Sushifee Hope the following is of some help.... Import of Pets The following documents are needed for import customs clearance of a pet in Bulgaria: ◾Pet must be microchipped ◾Health certificate ◾Rabies vaccination not more than 6 months old ◾Pet’s passport showing proof of all shots and medical records ◾Ownership papers ◾Notarized power of attorney to arrange customs procedures – sample can be provided for reference The best airline to Sofia is Emirates so it would be best to speak with them. I transported my cats back to my home country (4) and will need to advise that it is not cheap by any standards but that was far from my mind. If you do decide to have assistance in this, then the best person in the region, by my mind, is Linda Tedd and you will find her via the Bin Kitty Collective page on FB. Good luck!

Can anyone recommend an affordable vet (if there is such a thing!) who specializes in small animals, pref in the New Dubai area. We adopted a guinea *** - he is lovely but is scratching himself a lot, think he may have mites! Also looks as if he needs his claws trimming. edited by Saraabc on 28/02/2014 Can't believe my post was automatically edited to remove the offending second part of the animal's name - mods, get a grip! edited by Saraabc on 28/02/2014 Modern Vets are excellent - I used to use them all the time. I am afraid that particular word is removed to not offend the locals I suspect but many around the area I used to live had them and can just imagine the phone call to the vets when needing treatment - "I have erm..a guinea wot not..."

It is natural to feel this way after a breakup and with several billion people on the planet it is a given that you will find someone Cheaters suck, so you are well rid!!!! Give yourself time to grieve and go complete no contact. It gives you time to think and regain some clarity. Not all Men are bad. You just have to watch out for the red flags and use dating as a discovery period. Take some time out to care for you, spend time with friends, go to the gym, start new hobbies. Write him a letter to get all your rage out but do not send it. You will get over it and find that what your feeling is the loss of hope of what you thought the relationship may become. I was where you were several years ago and remember how bad I was at the time and it does go away unfortunately there isn't a magic spell to wish the bad time away. You need to focus on the fact that he is an a$$ there is no excuse for cheating!!!! Try and avoid any communication with him if you can, sit on your hands, leave your phone at home and tell you friends that you don't want to hear about him. Its easy to start texting again especially when you are raw. There is a great website by a British lady called Natalie Lue that helps you make sense of breakups etc with some funny stuff thrown in. Sarahlou - stop the preaching please. 'My friend(s) had this and had that' and you have gone through all that has been on this forum - it seems you know that world and it's brothers. Been wishing to say this for months, Take care edited by SJ1968 on 12/02/2014

Sorry to butt in ladies but are we not forgetting that a fair few employers here do not even bother to give a day off to their maids. My previous maid went for one interview and the lady told her she would not be allowed out of the four walls - even money back to her family would be done by the family driver. We criticise but we live in a country where it seems the 'cannot mention the word' take maids so much for granted and treat them appallingly. Doesn't justify the OP doing basically the same thing! It was only ONE day it seems!! Others, including three next door when I was living in Dubai had not been out for months!! And I will add how many of you honestly use your maid to look after the children when you are physically in your home and exhausted for one reason or another??? edited by SJ1968 on 11/02/2014

As far as I know, there is a huge shortage of school spaces so the new schools are responding to the demand for more places. Also one or two have shut down so I've heard? Wouldn't go near a GEMS school - just need to spend 5 mins reading about the CEO to see why. The founder and CEO is just an idiot. You only have to read his response to a question in an article last year to which he replied "if you do not like our fees, then basically @@@@ off"

I wish I could just get on a plane back to England right now. Does anybody else find it so stressful living here? Yes, hence why I am in the UK right now registering at the private wing of an NHS hospital for our baby birth. Everything in Dubai is ten times harder, more disorganised and complicated than anywhere else and frankly I could no longer be bothered with the hassle, not to mention, eating out here, SO much easier! From trying to find out if cheese is pasteurised in Dubai restaurants, to a certain large hospital moving my appointment to an hour later, giving me 30 mins notice, then not informing the doctor who then tells me off for being late, to DHs four visits to free zone visa company to get my spousal visa (they change the paperwork requirements every time) now they no longer do spousal visas at all and expect us to go to Fujairah (where they will probably change the paperwork requirements four times as well), to immigration failing to put through my tourist visa extension in my passport last month, despite us paying them for it and filling in all the paperwork and then having to spend over two hours running all over Dubai airport when trying to leave, finally running to the gate with 20 mins to spare, which turned out to be in the other terminal, with no offer of assistance from any airport staff despite repeatedly asking them to call the gate to tell them I was on my way and them knowing where the gate was located and that I was pregnant (and now thanks to that unexpected airport dash also suffering with sever sciatica). Lets just say I was really happy when I finally got on that plane, arrived to a smiling (not on his mobile phone) passport control officer in London and had my first meal out in lowly Pizza Express, where the non native English speaking server was not only able to tell me the cheese on my pizza was pasteurised but without any prompting also advise that the cheese on DHs was not therefore he should not share it with me. So yes I can wholeheartedly understand your stress in Dubai, as someone who had a fairly high standard of living in the UK (we solely moved to Dubai for DH to gain international experience in his field) I find many systems in Dubai poorly organised and a never ending stream of frustration. As for your current issue I can only suggest go with the advice on here, newspaper, rent committee, I would be going insane if I was in your current situation for a very small plus point, at least it is not summer. edited by RuthM on 10/02/2014 Well said Ruth - the same here for me. So many frustrating problems here and goodness knows how much more leading up to 2020. Just heard radio UAE thinking of dropping age of legal driving !! What on earth.

Thanks, SJ1968. In fact, he's always made the payments on time. He continues to do so as I can see all transactions online. So, I don't think he'll default unless for some reason he cannot pay, which doesn't seem to be the issue at this point. I just don't know why the bank will not remove my name. I have been through their whole chain of command on this. It's so frustrating, especially when they told me that all I had to do was request it - obvisouly that's not the case. Yes, he took the loans prior to my name being added. Thanks again for your response. Because if you have a joint account and you both have loans against the account, how can the bank take one name off if the other party says no? Too true I am afraid. The bank will not remove your name whilst debts are held against this account - this is the reason why unfortunately - no other.

So much less stressful living in UK now to be honest! I do not need to keep looking over my shoulder or in fear of offending (not that I would do intentionally).

Hi Yvettesmom Just spoken with my ex (on a general call regardless and mentioned this) - he is head of Retail Banking for an international bank. Unfortunately, you were held jointly and severally liable for the debts on the joint account (regardless of whether singlular or joint at the time of loans/overdrafts etc being taken) the day you signed the joint bank account and whether you are divorced or not, you are responsible until your name is removed - by which, sounds he will not. Is the account overdrawn? If so, this is why the bank will not remove your name by request. It needs to be in credit. He strongly suggests you seek advice from a lawyer as you may know, it is a criminal offence here to owe money and not pay back. Sorry not better news....Good luck.

Never ever think you will get a deposit back. I paid AED24000 deposit PLUS AED18000 to maintain his disgraceful property. No damage caused and left in excellent order but refused to handover. RERA told me not to even bother trying to get back. LLs in UK would never get away with this.

Your DD must be unde 16 if the PO require your signature. Just get print off the form from the gov.uk website, sign and courier them back to UK. You do not need to be in the UK as far as I am aware - why would you need to be?? Sounds like some jobs worth to me. That makes sense and have her fill out the remainder of the form https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/213952/form-c2.pdf

As long as it has got all correct and in order paperwork, then there should be no problem. There are certain breeds of dogs banned from the Dubai Dog and Cat Shaw (dogs, not cats) so it may worth checking with either Linda Tedd via Bin Kitty Collective on FB - she is an absolute expert when transporting animals to and from destinations or call the airline for their stance.

There is also Richmond (classed as Surrey) a really really beautiful place (biased only because I live there!!). Additionally, at the cheaper end but still absolutely stunning is Reigate, Redhill and Banstead areas (near to Croydon with only 20 mins to Central London). So a country feel but central located near to Gatwick and London).

It's irrelevant if she paid the rent in good faith - this is nothing to do with the Owners of Burj Khalifa - they have not been paid and they have every right to withdraw services. What a ridiculous statement. It has everything to do with the property owners in Burj Khalifa The service charges are billed to the property owners by the property developers. If the billed party does not pay, restrictions/measures have to be placed against the defaulting party, not a 3rd entity so by your arguement, if someone sells me fake tickets to the Men's Final, i am entitlted to attend as i paid in good faith?? edited by IzzyOnTheSeat on 06/02/2014 If you live in a villa and the water pipe bursts between the road and your said villa - the landlord states he will not pay for repairs - do you think you are entitled then to any water? The argument lies between the owners, agents and landlords of the Burj - not the tenant. They signed in faith and goodness knows they are enough property scams to last a lifetime here by individuals so how can all tenants do individual checks! edited by SJ1968 on 06/02/2014

I used Flymovers last year to move from one villa to another. Due to do certain issues (breakages not packed properly as had another client later in the day on the second day of the move and the team needed to proceed with their move - hence, was severely rushed and I had packed 90 per cent of the valuables in advance of them coming), personally, I would not recommend them. edited by SJ1968 on 06/02/2014

I agree with LadyBee - although back in the UK, I see a restrospective view from people who moan consistently about 'oh dear, DH's company not paying housing allowance, school fees, not sponsoring our maid etc' - what on earth did families do prior to moving to Dubai to be able to cope - it really is a laughing stock and 'Hyacinth Bucket' comes into play here generally. I am back in UK and to be honest, never been happier (regardless of being on my own, paying for school fees, no maid, paying a mortgage with no assistance etc etc) - some women really do need to get a perspective on life generally without the 'woe is me' aspect I read so often on this forum.

The Gatwick Express departs very frequently from LGW into London Victoria (which is very central location in London) and take approximately 40 minutes (via Redhill, East Croydon, Clapham Junction but not stopping) or to take the National Express coach to just around the corner from London Victoria main line station - as in the coach station. From there, you would best catch a London taxi to your final destination. The 'Cockney' drivers are quite fun :-)

I would love to hear the current scenario of this. I spoke with RC on Thursday, albeit exceptionally briefly against our LL for other matters, then realized he could, for whom he worked for, cause us much damage indeed.
