I urgently need a maid, preferably one who comes with a recommendation from their current sponsor. I have 3 kids and live on Abu Dhabi island. If for whatever reason you are seeking a new sponsor for your maid and you would recommend them, I'd love to hear from you. Or if you know of anyone who is, I'd appreciate their details. Good accomodation and salary for the right person.

We mutually agreed with our maid not to renew her contract for a 2nd year. It's not working out. She is going home and is entitled to her 12th month holiday leave. What is the practice in paying for holidays? Do I pay her the full month of salary or just a couple of weeks? Can anyone confirm what is common practice? Thx

Hi SJ Aussie Thanks for tip. Just went there and found them expensive but very thorough. Difficult to get appointments though.

Can anyone recommend a dentist preferably American or educated in America. I'd prefer a female dentist if possible. Thanks

Kid vs Kat I have an appointment on Sunday to make the application. But I rang the British embassy and they said a domestic visa would not be possible as she worked for me less than a year. Do you know of people who got this visa with maids of less than one year? Thanks for your feedback!

Sausage - thanks so much for your added value comments on my question. So helpful! To the rest of you who replied, thanks for your comments. I think I am going to have a problem as my maid has been with us for slightly less than a year so am attempting a visitor visa application for her which will probably get rejected. She is very unlikely to abscond as her husband is here in the UAE with her and he is not coming to the UK with us.

Speaking to a lot of people/friends who have accepted places at BC for kids in FS1 and FS2, the vast majority did not have other options. I would be very surprised if there were many people with BSAK places in these years who turned them down. Better the devil you know and all that... While BC may prove to be excellent over time, its unproven now and that's what matters. Despite that I have accepted a place there but think its better to remain realistic and balanced about its pros and cons vs good schools like BSAK.

Thanks both for your comments. SJ Aussie - think you were very sensible adding your specific comments on the acceptance form. The current wording is very one sided. Yep we do need to make a decision but think i will do post the open night next tuesday with Brendan Law.

SJ Aussie I am a bit confused now as the acceptance letter says you are obliged to pay a terms fees if you dont proceed with the offer. I quote directly from the declaration in the acceptance letter 'This acceptance will not be withdrawn or cancelled without a term's fees paid in lieu.' I did clarify this with BC but am going to double check. Is it just me who has this understanding?

Ann C I would stay on island if you want pet friendly places. There are more parks and green space and beaches for walking when the weather allows. Your budget is good for a 2/3 bedroom place and you should have a good range of options to choose from. Personally if I was here as a couple with no kids I would live in the city or close to it. Traffic can be very bad in certain parts of the city so do take that into account.

We have been offered a place at BC and considering at the moment. But also have a place at another school (well established with good reputation) which we have paid desposit for. I think BC will be a good school (the facilities, teachers and curriculum sound great in theory) and I like the smaller class sizes (as long as they remain committed to that). I am concerned about the financial committment involved in the acceptance letter which means you have to pay the first terms fees if you decide later not to go ahead and take the place. As far ar as I am aware none of the other schools require these type of deposits at this stage. Considering the school isnt even built yet, I think its quite risky. What do others think who have a choice between BC and other schools?

Many thanks again. I have heard mixed reports on BIL in terms of assessing children's behavioural issues. All unchartered ground for me.

Ladies Many thanks for your response. My son is young so am hoping medical intervention not required yet but we shall see. I'll get in contact with the American Centre. Also have you had any experience with the British Insitute for Learning?
