Unfortunately it does not exist here - to my knowledge, and not many doctors know of it. I have thyroid issues too and been unable to get this here. You can order it online but check with DHA if it is allowed to be brought in as they update their list of allowed supplements and medicine frequently. I was going to order it from a website in the UK but could not get them deliver here. I am on Syntroxine at the moment as it is a gel capsule and a touch better for me than Eltroxin or Levothyroxine. My personal belief of it not being available here is that it is derived from animals of a certain breed thus not allowed to be distributed. I might be wrong though... http://www.thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatment/where_to_get_desiccated.html

Sadly with many people in this position, they don't 'wake up' until they have a health scare. Maybe drag him to the docs for a general checkup and get the doctor to lay out the health issues that he could end up with if he doesn't make some serious changes. Agree. Blood test is a good starting point. Also: My husband started getting healthy as soon as I started cooking dairy and gluten free, juicing, exercising, stopped all soda drinks, threw all sugar out...he saw a good example and followed. Lost so much weight and has become very trim and healthy!

I had the same issues and used cleaning ladies from professional cleaning companies. Regardless of asking for the same person each week I was sent a different lady for 6 weeks, had to tell all to be careful etc, was left with the following: completely destroyed wood table as they sprayed a very harsh chemical on it assigned for bathroom cleaning (!), damaged art work as they leaned on it, damaged hoover as they simply didn't take enough care of it, rug with holes in it as they forgot the hoover on it for too long apparently, iron broken as they dropped it. This is one of the so called ''best professional cleaning companies in Dubai others recommend. I also 'trained' all individuals prior to them starting the cleaning! It honestly is down to pure luck if you manage to find someone who is very good and takes care of your flat and belongings as well as you do. I am thinking of cleaning the flat myself, not great BUT too many damaged goods in such a short period of time with not a single person or manager wanting to pay up or take any responsibility.

Hello everyone. So I am here to help my dear friend about her problem. She's been my friend since we were in college. We're really close. To cut the long story short, her husband wanted to buy a new car. Since she loves him so much, she is very supportive wife. She would do whatever it takes to make their life a happy one. Her husband wanted to buy a Porsche so she is asking which Porsche car will suit a married couple. In addition, they still don't have a baby. Can you suggest guys? Thanks I would imagine that if the Husband wants a Porsche then he will know exactly what model he can afford Your question is an odd one. I would also imagine he will go to the showroom and test drive the models he can afford, I have never heard anyone ask which model will suit a married couple?? And a Porsche will make a happy marriage? Riiiiight. HAHAHAHA Man gets a Porsche, clear sign of mid life crisis. Just remember, a Porsche is NEVER for a married couple, it is a new toy for 'her' husband, nothing more, nothing less. Having said this, as you are a very good friend, best to 'advise' your friend of getting a much cheaper car that will take their future children too, with them throwing up in the car occasionally, etc...I bet as soon as her husband hears this he no longer wants a Porsche. UNLESS he is willing to get her one too, you know, just to avoid the hassle of kids cramping his style! Now that would be quite something! A His and Hers! LOL Sorry, just found the thread hilarious. I hope your friend's husband finds happiness from within!

Can anyone recommend a good, tough divorce lawyer in Dubai? My lawyer in the UK has suggested that I divorce in Dubai rather than the UK, for a variety of reasons I'd rather not get into. I don't need someone who will do the admin around the divorce, I need someone who will negotiate and mediate, to move this thing forward as quickly as possible. Any suggestions of people that you've used and were genuinely happy with? Definitely Expatriatelaw.com. Offices both in London and Dubai and specialise in international divorce law. I spoke with a lady called Sophie Capo-Bianco - a British lawyer based in Dubai. Very tough cookie when it comes to dealing with matters. I second this firm, a lady called Holly Sautelle-Smith is very good as well.

None here unless you work for a family privately as a social worker. The concept here does not exist in a way you imagine. There are certain governmental organisations that employ Emiratis only in that capacity. Try getting in touch with the Dubai Shelter for Women and Children, perhaps they could advise you further.

Ok, this is a topic you need to take seriously. To say 'she will be ok' is not the right approach. If she has developed an eating disorder you need to get help ASAP or it could be something she will struggle with her whole life. You need to get her to a doctor and then get a referral for specialized care if needed. If her periods have stopped her body is shutting down and there could be life long effects to her reproductive system if not fixed. You need to be very proactive, she will fight you and hate you for it but get her help before its too late!!! Please! I second this quote. It is a very important first step that you are seeking help for her so continue on this path! Take her to a Child/Adolescent Psychologist ASAP. Could be an eating disorder (anorexia nervosa, bulimia), could be other psychosomatic disorders. If it is none at least you'll know it has no psychological origination. GP should be involved too who is very open to psychosocial interventions should the need be, blood tests will be required to eliminate other potential causes. *I work in mental health care, to validate my two cents. All the best for her and your family. She will need all the support she can get.

A lot of people were let go last year, with big companies firing staff in the 100's. Job searching has become very difficult if you look on LinkedIn for let's say an office job, on the 7th day of the job being posted more than 5,000 people applied, 12% with MBA's, for a simple admin position! I would also like to point out that the position barely paid much. So it has become much tougher to get a good paying job, and if you don't get paid well, why stay? Dubai is incredibly expensive to live, consider high rents, food prices are insane and rise at crazy intervals. Not to mention education prices if you have kids, medical insurance and costs for dental or items not covered. Now it is not to say you can't do Dubai on a budget but it is not that great then in all honesty. All of this has to be considered when deciding where to live. If you don't get paid enough, no point staying here as you can get the same salary in your own country where you have the rest of your family who can provide you with emotional and possibly financial support as well, your familiar surroundings, great outdoors, culture, etc. Then one's own country becomes more attractive than Dubai. So going back to a potential economic downturn, very hard to predict. It has definitely become way more competitive on the job market and salaries are lower while living costs are on the rise.

Is it legal to write a negative review on a blog, about a brand/company/service? It is legal but you can also write a Facebook review on their page or google review No, it is not legal, it is considered defamation! You can't write a negative review, restructure it in a way that you are asking for help then do hashtag and company on twitter or FB. Anything else you'll have to be careful with. You are critiquing services specific to a company or brand directly on a website, so in essence you are promoting negativity about the company and its services potentially causing them loss of revenue, bad publicity, bad reputation etc. Grey area in daily life but if someone takes offence you better be prepared to go to court. Similarly, it is illegal to post about a person negatively. Read the UAE Penal Code.

First 6 rows are super expensive, we sat in the 7th row and it was still AED1,100 for a ticket and amazing views. Special occasion. ;) Choose seats that are towards the middle, pricing depends on your view and row of seating...Anything upto rows 12 is fine, side or middle. After that you are further at the back or balcony (some of these near the stage have limited views due to stage props or lights) or terrace but I found it too far though some prefer the first two rows on the terrace. It is a wonderful experience, if you like a bubbly before the show arrive earlier and you can get a prosecco etc on the 2nd floor, you can even preorder drinks for intervals and go pick them up, drink them and go back to your seats. The architecture and interior are beautiful. Worth a visit.

Tricky question: will you feel isolated? To start with you won't have your family with you, only your husband who will be working. So what you do during the days will be up to you. There are plenty of ladies here who fall into your age group though it is not the norm. People tend to be younger and ones who are your age are usually with their extended families, visiting or local. Having said this, you can certainly feel valued here as you can do volunteering, offer your free time doing something worthwhile. You can help with expatwoman related matters too, like coffee mornings that are held each week, etc...Sign up to a meetup group as well. I don't think age is a barrier here that much when it comes to friendships as many people have friends in all age groups. Everybody is aware of the fact that Dubai can feel lonely so people stick together and support one another. The question you might want to ask is what type of medical insurance you can get at that age that will guarantee your care. Driving is not absolutely required if you live in an area that is easily accessible by tram and metro, both are super safe and amazing, cheap too, you can buy a NOL card and top it up or get weekly/monthly passes. Buses are equally good to use. RTA taxis are very cheap as well. Marina is perfect for this! You can walk, jog, cycle, easily meet others for coffee, enjoy a movie, lunch, swim in the sea as JBR is very closeby, supermarkets are in the near vicinity: Waitrose, Spinneys, almaya, Carrefour City/Express, etc... You can take various cooking classes in Dubai, explore different parts of it, learn to ski, learn Arabic for all you know if you don't speak it yet, take up painting, join yoga or other classes, go to the theatre, etc... Dubai requires a touch more effort in terms of keeping busy if you don't work, so tuck in, don't be afraid to post here and the lovely ladies of Dubai will help you out, put you in touch with people, etc. Apartments depend on your budget and how many bedrooms you are aiming for. Let's say a two bedroom with a balcony can costs you from AED70,000-AED180,000, all depends what you are after: furnished or unfurnished, flats or serviced apartments, pets allowed or not, chiller/AC included or not, how many parking spots you'll have, storage unit, oh and the view, vicinity to a mosque, supermarket, Metro or tram station, etc...Post here what you are after.... bye:

You can set up a Borderlinx account and order clothes from US sites, they always have sales on, then collect them in a bunch and ship them over, we have been doing this for years, saved 70% on shoes and clothing. Try not get caught up in the materialism is my biggest advice, or the brunches...there are tons of things to do in Dubai that require no endless drinking :) camp in the desert, discover the neighbouring emirates, climb Jebel Hafeet, etc... Register in a meetup group, Dubai can be a very lonely place especially if your other half works and you don't yet. Expatwoman organises coffee mornings too! DragonMart has EVERYTHING. If it is not there, you don't need it  There is a RIPE market every Friday at Zaabel Park with food trucks as well, if food is your thing, many cool eateries in Al Quoz too! Raw cafe has THE best coffee in Dubai! Visit the art scene at Arkansal Avenue, bit different from the usual Dubai. There is the flea market to check out too and the Vegetables Market too, Fish market in Deira (go with a man!, they hassle you like theres no tomorrow and the smell is unbearabale but worth it for the freshest catches and cheap prawns) Download Uber and Careem and register with your cards, very handy when you are stuck with no car and no RTA taxis around. When you register with UberEATS they deliver to your door from nearby places using the same card as the Uber app. Enjoy and have fun!

I would get in touch with the bank that lent him the loan and ask for a full Terms&Conditions of the Loan Agreement between the parties if that is possible though the person themselves will have to be present too as without his approval you can't gain insight. Ask for advice on car loan transfers and Purchase Agreement in this instance, how it would affect it. Personally would not transfer anybody's loan into my name, ever.

Thank you but unfortunately she can't afford a two bedroom flat, it has to be one bedroom only with rent capped at AED65,000 maximum. Try Timberland in Ibn Battuta Mall, they have very good waterproof shoes and boots, I got a pair and use them every single time I'm in Europe over the winter, they are a life saver and they are non slip as well. They have jackets/gloves etc too. North Face is also brilliant, got very good windproof jackets from them that are great in rainy weather as well. If we are talking about freezing conditions Canada Goose is superb though pricey. They all have stylish colours so you'll fit right in! Enjoy Paris!

The problem is that your flat simply does not have enough power supplied to enable the use of certain electrical appliances. Back in the days when flats were built a hob required let's say 1.3kW, our new hob is 11kW!!! That is a gigantic increase thus the switch board used to flip constantly. We are in a Damac building and faced the same issue. We used Goettling, who have an amazing electrician, Satya. He did a brilliant job, full rewiring of the whole section. Very knowledgable. First step is to find out if your DEWA sheet in your flat matches up to what you are using, ie. it has to state the number of water heaters you have and how many kWs it uses, make sure you do have all of those appliances and that they indeed use that amount of kW, I doubt it as I said, manufacturers have increased the usage a lot. Create a new sheet by listing all of your electrical appliances in the flat, including tv, etc...every single thing, even your kettle, you'll be surprised to learn how fast things add up and how many items we actually do use simultaneously. You can also start turning off water heaters that you never use, for example in case of a guest bathroom and simply switch it on once you have a guest etc... Second step get in touch with Goettling, they are in Business Bay. You can explain it all to them. Third step is your building management company, ask them how much supply your floor has allocated to it, the full floor, then your flat alone. Important numbers, ask them if there is room for extra power on that floor, sometimes they allow 2kW, etc...every little helps ;) Then DEWA has to be involved as you are increasing the power supply to your flat, tad tedious but once again worth having all the correct documentation. Then with all knowledge at hand, including a quote for the works you can prepare yourself for a ton of noise and dust within the apartment, this can include the use of jackhammers to make way for new cables in the wall, etc... Having said all of this, it is sooooo worth it!!! We are super happy to have gone through all the mess and headache, we can use everything safely now and it has all made our flat much tidier as well. It is good to know what happens within your flat, in terms of both electricity and water. Happy to help you more if need be as I went through the exact same thing. :nerd: P.S.: Install main switches as well that can turn your oven+hob on, its great to have those as you can turn them off when you travel, you can have one installed for the dishwasher too on the wall, etc...

Ask friends if you could 'borrow' their nanny/maid for an evening, also if she could meet your son for a few hours prior to booking her. It's better to have someone look after him who comes recommended. Borrowing a friends maid is illegal. If anything bad were to happen then the sponsor is slapped with a large fine, said maid would be deported and she isn't insured. Really not worth the risk Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I wasn't aware as so many families do this around us and have found this to be a very easy and good way to have someone for a few hours. I won't be suggesting this to anyone though as it is best to stick to the rules

I completely agree. But is this a notion with most dog walkers? I worry extremely when they let the dogs come up and lick my young child. Do you think its appropriate to say something? Or would it be unreasonable to, as they're just dogs and this is what they do? I'm not sure of what the right approach is without causing offence! Dogs will do what their owners will let them get away with, period. I always say something along the lines of: "I am severely allergic to dogs. Please take him away. Thank you." It always works if I smile as well....You could just say your child is severely allergic to dogs... Let's not even think about what is in the saliva of dogs etc...yuck...

Discuss what you are specifically after with Dr. Shagufta Zia at the Medcare clinic on Jumeirah Beach Road, she is lovely and takes great care of her patients. They deal with most insurances as well. The key in Dubai I think is to ask what tests they carry out, what they exactly charge for in those tests, if it is a blood test and lets say they want to check vitamin D but that costs more, ask for a detailed lab cost list so that you can select what you would like to check and what not.

My friend did her MA in Business Administration at AUD and said they were very good but she only intended to use her degree in the UAE not elsewhere. If you are after an internationally recognised qualification call the Ministry of Higher Education to check the accreditation status of that specific course. Best is also to get in touch with SACSCC to make sure it is indeed the way you read it, accredited. I had to check with a British authority as well a few years ago as the website said my degree wasn't accredited then found out it was indeed, so it is worth doing research for sure! AUD can give you information about credit transfers as it is specific to every uni, make an appointment and go talk to them, easier to clarify things in person. It is also handy to know which other uni in the UK or US you are hoping to transfer to as they will have their own transfer criteria.
