Is it a 'universal' or a Dubai problem? Is there a guy out there that is not only interested in the obvious? My single friends have been complaining for years now, all they want to do is settle down but it seems impossible for them to meet someone with a steady job, who doesn't smell and is genuinely interested in them as human beings. I am curious if others who are single are experiencing the same? :nerd: Skyfall, i have a couple of super sweet friends which are after me to find them a Basic Old School Girl. they infact we tried & failed, they both not into smoking drinking so & no partying/brunches so that option is not viable here. they looking for the ones who want a real relationship no matter how the person looks like what they earn or what they drive... are you friends the same ? Well, as much as I would like to say: "Yes! They are the same!" I have to say no. My friends do care what a person looks like. They don't want to be with someone with bad personal hygiene for example who weighs a ton. But other than that, they are the same in a way that they don't care about fancy stuff, genuine attraction and a good heart goes a long way. Sadly somehow it seems there isn't a place for people like them to meet apart from through friends/work... Tinder although not allowed here a lot of people use it, even married ones, but people are after only one thing there.... completely useless....

Muslims have dogs as well, it all depends on their personal preference, they are animal loving as well generally speaking but you are right, dogs are seen as impure. I would never let my dog so far that it would have a chance to go too close to a complete stranger and lick him/her. People can be allergic to dogs as well as simply not liking dogs. I personally cannot stand when someone with a dog thinks just because she has this cute tiny puppy that I would love him lick me everywhere and jump on me. Respect my personal space as I respect others'. Period. Regardless of religion. Live and let live.

Just be careful. There is no really sugar free cake. If it is, then it has artificial sweeteners, which are even worst for babies than regular sugar. Also those cakes usually has more fat, more artificial flavours.... they need to add something for flavuor. Or they are just tasteless. They celebrate birthday in there will be no harm to eat just once regular- normal cake. Try to make a cake at home, with less sugar, with healthy ingridients, with fruits. Homemade is way more healthy than any other sugar free cake. Slightly disagree, I make cakes at home that contain no natural/artificial sugars and they taste so good, like a beetroot/cocoa cake I made from discarded beetroot fibre that was leftover from juicing. Fruit contains fructose, aka fruit sugar so you are no better off really although natural sugar is always better than artificial ones... I recognise some people don't have time to bake and can have diabetes etc so for them it is not okay to eat a sugar laden piece of cake even if it is their birthday. Just my two cents. :nerd:;) But as you say, best to check with the bakery itself what they use.

The use of a heater will be counter effective as the heat generated will only make the automated AC turn on and blast you with cold air - in my humble opinion...Talk to maintenance or leave thick socks at work and put them on under your desk when no one is looking, we tend to feel warner when our feet are warm.

I am sorry you are going through this tough time. A lot of women are in the same boat as you are, just don't say it openly. Make an appointment with a counsellor and talk, a lot. A counselling/clinical psychologist will be fine too, as long as you go get help, that's the second step. First was you recognised something is off. And that's great! You are obviously very strong to have such self-awareness! Hope therapy helps you, it could be postnatal depression. I am sure you know of all the baby+mum groups out there that meet up regularly and all the exercising classes that can be done with your baby as well, etc...just to get you out of the house...How do you feel about leaving your little one with a nanny/maid while you go back to work part-time to start with? Then you won't miss out that much with your little ones, who you clearly love so much, and you stay "sane" as well. I felt like you are feeling many times and therapy and change in habits helped tremendously. Just know that you are not alone.

I haven't had the mentioned surgeries but another type at City Hospital with Dr. Jozsa, call Angie at Healthbay Polyclinic and enquire about this procedure, she is super helpful. If you are very worried about having the operation I can wholeheartedly recommend him as I was beyond petrified, shook like a jelly, almost had a panic attack but his demeanour put me at ease and the professionalism of all staff at City Hospital was phenomenal. It's better to get these things sorted than be sorry later on....

Why aren't there any supply teaching agencies over here?? I am thinking of setting one up as there are so many mums who are teachers but don't want to work full time.....anyone know of any hurdles that are stopping me from setting this up???? Trade license regulations/KHDA for starters. You HAVE to supply everybody who works for your company/agency with a visa and ideally medical insurance/housing or housing allowance/income etc! They are not allowed to work anywhere else, they are your employees. So the costs of that are extortionate and make no sense in the business plan you might have. However, I do agree with you, it would be great to have something like that but unfortunately it is simply not allowed in this region. I also believe there are no substitute/supply teachers here as for example in the UK who work part-time only. The schools employ teachers/learning assistants/shadow teachers/special needs assistants, etc...

Just to add to this: I made a transfer a few months ago that left my account, never ended up at the other end yet my bank said its gone. When I complained they said oh, it is with the other bank in that other country, they are holding it, they haven't released it yet. Hmm...called the other bank, they said BS, then came back to the bank here, a manager was able to sort it out, money never left UAE yet it showed on the system that it did, anyone below supervisor level is useless when the issue is about loosing your money. We involved 3 banks at the end, but it was worth it, got it sorted within 2 weeks. Keep complaining but do so politely and in person with all proof at hand from all banks. Demand to speak to a manager but again, keeping emotions at bay. Which can be very hard when they are so incompetent.

Can't advice on the restaurants as haven't been to neither, but both looks amazing. One thing to consider might be the traffic, as it used to be horrendous going out of the Palm in the evening, had it changed? I stopped going out on the crescents because of this reason. The traffic is fine, it's actually the going in part that is a bit of a pain in the evening not so much the leaving...But we took an Uber both times and found it very relaxing, last thing we wanted to do was stress about driving there and back. The restaurant is worth the potential hassle though ;)

We did a full renovation on our home, that included painting the walls and ceiling and used Sajesh's team at Al Waqt Services, they were very professional, corrected every single crack in the walls/ceilings/fixed the gypsum if it was wet/stained, cleaned the whole home before handover. Very happy with them and would use them again. If you like very precise jobs and courteous workers I can only recommend them. The price first offered was a bit high but then we negotiated and it was very fair at the end. They also used non toxic paint that either you can buy (this would lower the cost) or they can buy and bring you the invoice.

Didn't he give you post-dated cheques? I would send him message that you will deposit cheque by end of week...if he bounces cheque he will to jail unless he pays up... Not entirely true: if someone's cheque bounces then the bank simply tells the person trying to cash the cheque in that there are insufficient funds in that account and will fine the account holder AED100 or whatever their fine is. Then the person who was given the cheque can try cashing it in again and again and again, the bank will keep fining the account holder as many times as a cheque is presented that cannot be honoured. A person will ONLY go to jail (according to Dubai law) and get charged with misdemeanour felony charges if the person who received the cheque takes it to to criminal court and says the cheque has become a debt and has not been honoured. The bank per se does nothing to anybody, only assigns fines to the account holder.

A friend's daughter was diagnosed with it, put on heavy medication, gained crazy amount of weight as a result, then turned out she was going through a difficult phase because of resettling and parental issues. She is all well now with the help of therapy and not medicines, with the help of a learning assistant who recognised her own learning style and helps her accordingly, her grades increased as well. Her parents started seeking a counsellor too as a result, they are all doing much better now. Saw psychiatrists and psychologists, the amount of money spent was insane. I would also like to mention different mental health professionals "diagnosed" her with 4 different conditions, it was so confusing for them. I guess what I am trying to say is this: be careful before jumping on the bandwagon of ADHD that involves a psychiatrist's assessment/diagnosis/controlled medication (that is [u'>on her file for the rest of her life[/u'> and is accessible to all future employees should they ever enquire as data protections laws are different here, etc). If you are very concerned and as is the school, take her to see a Paediatric Psychiatrist who can assess her and give an opinion, there is one at Mediclinic at Dubai Mall. He specialises in hyperactivity. Then think what route to take etc...If she does indeed have ADHD, medicine, therapy (educational psychologist), learning assistants can help at school, extra tutoring at home with the type of learning style she reacts well to (there are 7!), change of diet/exercising, etc... You don't need a referral, you just make an appointment. You can claim the psychiatric consultation if your insurance covers such consultations, call them and check, also check if they cover that type of medication should you choose that treatment. Also call the clinic to check if they do direct billing with your insurance company and how much the consultation is, does the assessment cost extra, etc...Also worth checking with your insurance company if they cover mental health, in the form of psychological therapy, some cover that but not a simple counselling, depends on the clinics as well, some only do reimbursement basis that you might never recover, so best is to make a list of what to ask your insurance company so that you are well informed as mental health treatment is very expensive here. The school does not have to be involved in the consultation, you are a parent who is simply taking her daughter to see a doctor about something that others suspect she might have, at this stage its all assumptions. Once you had the assessment you can discuss the outcome with the teacher/school and your chosen route or support you might require from them, etc... Children are heavily overmedicated when it comes to ADHD, that is not to say it can't benefit someone, best is to try other 'diagnosis' specific alternatives before plying her with drugs like they did my friend's daughter who never needed them in the first place. Hope you find what helps her best!

No, we didn't first but on the second occasion! It was worth it, we chose the one with alcohol pairing, the wine was wonderful too! I thought the Entertainer voucher was brilliant though, as you can still enjoy the wonderful cuisine with two starters, two mains, two desserts plus drinks. Saves on one main. My husband and I have different tastes so it was handy for us to be able to select what we truly wanted to try individually. Ask for a table on the terrace but further from the door and in a non-smoking part! They used to allow smokers on the balcony, so if you are a non-smoker that is very bothersome.

Turn up with a male at a time you know he is at home, you can check this with security/building manager at the building. Take your agent along too. If he refuses to open the door, put a slip through of his notice (legally you have to give 30 extra days) to pay the amount to an exact date. That will be your first step in terms of legal proceedings. Costs nothing. Then you can evict him if he doesn't adhere. For more up to date advice call or mail the ocean view dubai.

If you would like an idea of how much villas/flats cost for rent or to buy browse dubizzle or propertyfinder or read the flatreviews website.

Hi, The first few rows are very close indeed, but for a 3 years old it might be perfect in terms of seeing well. I sat in row 6 and unfortunately someone tall sat in front of me and as the seats are not elevated but are on the same level it was awful. I would say rows 3-4-5 are probably best for that age although for you it might be too close for comfort.

Dubai Municipality has a department dedicated to animal related complaints: Veterinary Control for the Municipality. They deal with noise complaints as well. Last resort if your neighbours don't understand the nature of living next to one another with mutual respect and kindness. (I complained about a noisy dog in the tower next door and dog faeces covering the pavement. Both got dealt with in due course.)

Shipping costs + customs handling fee + customs clearance fee + taxes(duty) + possible insurance cost the shipping company paid + entry fee ALL of these can be charged to you depending what category goods you are sending, the country of origin and destination and the trade agreement (free or not) between the two. Hope this helps, it's so confusing.

In Dubai everything is possible, that's what makes it so great. ;) Whether the Hotel Apartment will help you with shipping or not will be up to the one you end up living in temporarily, bear in mind most come furnished so you would have to store your stuff somewhere until you find a place of your own (at extra cost) unless you find an unfurnished one. Then it is up to negotiations with the person in charge. Most flats offer 1 year contracts, it is very difficult to find decent ones that offer shorter stay but possible, a few friends managed to sign 6 months or 9 months too but was rare. Dubizzle, propertyfinder can be useful websites to check.

Read some reviews about villas on Dubai flatreviews, you can check there according to date and see what people are saying about specifics, such as maintenance companies, structural integrity of buildings, etc...hope it helps make your decision. I am an owner and it is very hard to tell in today's market if it is a good investment or not to buy, it's very up and down at the moment. We can only hope in the years to come it was worth it. Get in touch with the Urban Planning Dept. of Dubai Municipality who could give you some information about any planned projects for that specific area.

Unfortunately in this region, it is still very much 'who you know' and its very difficult to get something by relying on the internet / recruitment agents. I think the fact that you've had 7 interviews this year shows that your profile is strong (I know loads of people who would be happy to get any interview to keep them motivated during an incredibly frustrating process). Within my circle of friends, almost everyone who has found a job in Dubai, has done so via knowing someone who has a high position (or someone who knows someone else who might be able to help). I think this is the best way - don't feel bad / proud by asking everyone you know (and ask them to do the same with their friends and colleagues) and I'm pretty sure something will work out for you....you also stand a far better chance of being successful at interview if you are a warm rather than cold candidate. Some big organisations also have incentive schemes to refer friends for vacancies as statistically this provides a bit of quality control around candidates. Good luck and keep trying - the big benefit you have is that all companies, regardless of sector, requires experienced HR people! Happy Hunting! 100% agreed! Networking is key! Meet as many people face to face as possible, put in that effort to organise your days where you see people every day, no matter if they are stay at home wives, or singletons, or are unemployed themselves now, etc...people talk, jobs are 'advertised' very often without actually being advertised.... Hope you'll find one soon!

Shame as it was a great turnout! Try to make it on the 21st! You might be surprised that some medicine that is only prescription elsewhere can be simply purchased over the counter (Elocom lotion for example that contains steroids), but GP is your best bet, make an appointment for a consultation then they can do the prescription. All depends on the insurance you'll end up having here. Whether that is through a company or private will determine how good it will be as well as many people do not like to pay a lot for premiums while a company can offer you (through negotiations) a better tier hopefully. Alico and Allianz are both very good and provide international emergency covers as well. Rent first is my advice, then see if you like it enough to buy it. ;) Betterhomes is quite good.

It does make sense, if something bothers you it just does and it's perfectly okay to think about it - in my view. I see a lot of older girls, 9 as well without tops in JBR, swimming freely, makes a lovely sight if you only look at nature and human beings in their own environments as opposed to certain men who stare at them as sexual objects. THEN it becomes an issue and for that matter I would put my little one in a full on swimming suit to protect her from the sun as well, one with a long zipper down the front and covered arms etc...plus a swimming hat too if she was to stay in the sun for long... If we were in Spain or by the ocean somewhere else I wouldn't necessarily dress her up this much (also depends on time spent in the sun though) but there are less eyes on her in those locations, if you know what I mean.

I am very sorry you are going through what so many wives in Dubai have experienced with their husbands. Week after week I hear stories from very close friends that their husbands are up to something, or get sucked into the materialistic world here and the super young and hot women who are after the older settled guys, you see it all here. The environment in itself can make you doubt yourself so many times. It is completely natural to feel this way when you are neglected by your own spouse and don't get what you want from your marriage. Whatever the reason for the neglect is, your alleged low self-esteem or his ignorance of your feelings, focus on yourself! 100%! And your son! Start doing things you haven't done before, get out and about, meet new people. Once you regain control of your life and don't depend on him financially you'll attract a lot of good and positive people and situations and your life will improve! I am a great believer of this Men and midlife crisis just do not go together. I don't know of your origin but if you are British you can get in touch with the British Community Fund in Dubai, google them, there is a phone number you can call for great advice!

Depends on the type of job you are applying for, if its to work in a shop for example, you'll be fine in casual jeans and shirt and salwar can be very nice too but if it is to work at an office type of an environment than a business suit/dress is more appropriate. Though I did work with women who were from India and used to wear their salwar to work every day while others opted for suits. So it really depends on the job I guess and the future boss's lenience in the dress code area. Good luck for the interview!
