If they are JW's they will be able to find out through their meeting place, where the other ones are. Sometimes they are also listed in the phone directory but I don't know if there is such a thing in Dubai??? I do know they are not very common in the ME for the reason you said. (also have JW rellies!)

I believe the episodes are being shown out of order, so it does get covered later on. That's what I've been told, anyway. So something will be shown about it eventually...

It's funny because the way they hold their bags annoys the heck out of me!!! Well, for them it's ok but when 'normal' people do it in the malls it drives me insane... don't know why, just looks..... weird!!! But I love their uniforms. By far the cutest version of the Pan Am one.

Colette is my favourite. I liked the storyline (without saying too much) about Ted & his dad & it explains why he acts the way he does sometimes. Laura is very pretty, Kate grows on you, Maggie annoys the heck out of me and I just love the costumes, the music & all of that! It's gotten a lot of criticism and the raings have fallen because people expected it to be like Mad Men. I don't think they ever promoted it as such, people just assumed, it's meant to be a not too serious look at the life in the 60's of airline crew. Yes it can be a bit cheesy but I think it's cute. Also another thread on it around here somwhere, but that might have spoilers in it as it's based on the air date in America.

Ok great, so if I leave it as is I should get a cal ltelling me they want to deliver & where to bring it? And if I don't pick up they will hold it in the warehouse until I tell them which office??? Just wanting to make sure I've understood this correctly.

Ok thank you. Are the offices only the 2 in Deira listed on the Sns website I am sure I've seen one in a mall somewhere?? I suppose if they can call me to tell me it is there and when can they come it would be ok too, as I can make sure I am home. I guess the security guard wouldn't know the difference as Aramex are allowed in for papers/bank stuff ;) Do you know how long they will hold things for- a day or two or up to a week? THis board is so much better than trying to get info from the actual companies! LOL

Hi ladies, thanks for the info. What I mean by no physical address is, the building owners don't permit us to use the building address as there are supposed to be no deliveries (i.e. 'mail') other than grocery or bank cards etc... Security have been told not to sign for stuff as they cannot take the responsibility and there is nowhere to store items. as I can be away for up to a week at a time it's not really fair to expect them to 'mind' stuff in the lobby. Plus that if everyone did it there's be hundreds of parcels! :p We're told our company mailroom is the place for that as things can be locked up until collected, and there is always someone there who does have the responsibility to sign for parcels. So, if I can pay online then it should be ok to send it there, right? What if I miss this 'payment window' online? Do they just hold the parcel until I can pay the fee? If so where do I pay it- any Aramex office?? I know this stuff should be o nthe website but I seriously can't find it at all. Have tried their 'online help' but no joy. Email is probably going to be too slow as I'll have to cancel this order in the next day if it's going to be a huge hassle. THanks for all your help & any additional you can give!!! :)

Wait- I remember someone saying that I can collect it from an Aramex office?? I thought I saw one at Dubai Mall but not sure. So I could go there and pay the fee to get the parcel, but I'd have to notify them that I want it sent there, right? I put the UK Aramex address when I orderes at amazon, and SnS have my PO box, so I guess I can log in and change that but I'm not sure what to put, as I literally don't have a physical address. The security will send away anyone with a parcel unless Aramex can somehow call me first and tell me they are coming. Seriously I wish Dubai would just get street postage already, why can't they??

But I thought you couldn't get stuff sent to a physical address??? Anyway I joined SnS because I'm hardly in Dubai and they won't let deliveries into our building unless we are home. As I don't know the date they will send it I don't know if I will be home.... ARGH not sure what to do now?! Any other time I've ordered something online it's come to my PO box, then again the way they word it on SnS website is that a charge will come to the account and I pay it by card then they send the parcel????

Yep the 'chemical' smell is probably the dyes and the treatments which help the fabric hold dyes... might also be something to ward off moisture if they are being stored for a long time...

tbh paying might be better on cetain routes as it seems 'some' passengers just decide they want a wheelchair and hop on even if they hadn't ordered one! we try to ensure the right person is taking the wheelchair but it's not 100% foolproof. Don't worry though we wait to make sure SOMEONE comes to get them before we leave!! :P Is a good idea too to let the crew know if you have ordered one a few hours before arrival0 gives time to get one out to to meet the plane if for some reason someone slipped up and it hasn't been ordered. Once the plane lands is a bit too late...

I would check about ZED, it can depend on the airline and also the grade off the staff member (eg capts get diff benefits than fos and pilots get diff than cabin) My siblings cannot get ZED, only me, no matter the airline :( I don't have a spouse so it's a bit of a waste, I can only take my siblings with me on the airline network if we want cheapie tix :p

Al Fursan (Knights) did a great flyby with an Emirates 777 (good chance for publicity video for EK too I guess!) I loved the palm tree they did with the smoke, anyone else saw it? So neat and very 'Dubai'!! Look out for them on National Day, I am SURE they will be doing something then too.

Good idea to wash anyway as many clothes have residual dyes/colours which can irritate the skin. SOme of the chemicals used can make you a bit ill. Used to work in a retail shop and some of the clothes absolutely reeked when we unpacked them, had an airing room so we could hang them for a few days before putting them on the shop floor. I used to hate when people with obvious body odour would insist on trying on LOTS of garments they clearly didn't intend on buying.. .yes everyone had a right to try on clothes but surely most people would realise this can ruin a garment, we had so many clothes written off as shop soiled because someone couldn't be bothered using deodorant, or taking care not to smear makeup all over white garments. We even provided cloths for this purpose. In one store I worked out, items worth thousands of dollars were just dumped on the floor! I don't mind people not putting back on hangers, but at least put them on the hooks! How can you tell an ex shop assistant? She's the one hanging stuff back up and turning all the hangers the correct way as she passes by... ;)

Ambika. Thanks for that. Would be nice for Shop n Ship to have put that in their FAQ's- I used their site search and nothing at all came up, so I guessed there was no other fees. If I knew it was 90dhs for 'paperwork' Iwould have just done it myself!!!! grrrr Dubai efficiency once again.... There goes any savings I might have had by getting those items from UK in the first place...

Prague is gorgeous!!!! If he likes beer, I heard that Czech beer is better than German ;) The sights a very pretty, Prague Castle has a cool changing of the guard display at noon (boys usualyl liket hat stuff), food is good, town is nice, there's some interesting museums including torture museum, museum of communism and you can even do a tour of a nuclear bunker (he might like that?) also a sssssseeeecks museum which I didn't go to but apparently is quite interesting as to the history and customs about 'it' in different places and times in history. Nice parks but maybe not so much in winter... views from Petrin on the top of the hill and of course the afore-mentioned day trips as well. Very very walkable (but make sure your shoes are comfy as the cobblestones hurt!)

As I mentioned the customs website seems to be that if it's under 3000dhs it should be fine. Well below that so fingers crossed!

On customs website I think it says less than 3,000 is ok.... which is less than 900AUD and that's the limit there... they all seem to be pretty similar

Hope it goes ok. If you've ever had fingerprints taken (for EGATE) it's possible for them to be verified against your own.... the embassy/consulate would just have to ask the UAE authorities to release them I guess. Worth asking about if the no ID thing is a problem...

Sorry but if the agreement ws 5 days a weekfor X amount of pay, I don't think public holidays should be given off unless the OP wants to give them. 5 days a week is 5 days a week. Hospitality workers don't get them off either... 2500 is quite a lot for what she does. (Comparing to other staff I know get similar salary for jobs requiring more skill)

Seems a bit slack to me, no offense!!! I think the biggest problem is as mentioned the frequent false alarms which makes both residents and building staff ignore the real thing... and people not respecting the safety concerns of leaving stuff in fire stairs etc...

Have heard it can be a PITA to get a replacement in the UAE, so if you're getting the runaround once back in Dubai, and have easy access to cheap tickets (am assuming you work in aviation by some of what you wrote) do what a friend did... get an emergency passport/visa to leave UAE for Oz, go directly to Melb/Syd or any major city and apply in person, they can do it in a day or two.... especially if the Aussie embassy in UAE can't do it quickly. I think the one in Dubai is only a consulate so not sure if they can do.... Anyway this was just what my friend did as they were giving her the runaround and saying it would be two weeks- obv with needing a pp for work she couldn't wait that long and it was easier. Having said that she lost hers in Dubai, not outside of the UAE...

Sydneygal I have a couple of friends who LOOOOVE Oyster Bay and they are always going on about bringing it back, so I guess either they don't have it or it's hit and miss. Is there a number you can call to ask? Try google Dubai Airport, I know they have a web site so there should be a switchboard you can call and ask to be put through... this is what I do as they don't seem to have online duty free like other places.

I've brought bottles in before. On the rare occasion I pack them checked I just put them in plastic, roll them in clothes, plastic again then put a few layers in the suitcase, the bottles spaced apart then pad that with clothes. Never had a problem and the bag chuckers in Sydney are notorious :P You can also buy inflatable wine packers online, the good one which is from Sweden or Norway (forgot the name sorry) is leakproof also. Just remember if you plan to do this take your license with you as you might need to show it on the way in. If you bring the alcohol and can't produce the license (even if you have one) then you can be fined or worse. Also I would avoid bringing booze through an Emirate you don't hold the license in- e.g. flying into Abu Dhabi and you live in Dubai, with alcohol is as good as importing without a license (as I understand it) the tourist rules do not apply as you are already a UAE resident. HTH

Was also going to suggest Ski Dubai... perhaps one of the restaurants overlooking the slope has a Chrissy lunch on? Then home for movies & deorations etc.... PPersonally I love the summer Christmas, being from Oz it's normal for us. We always have a big BBQ... everyone comes over in the morning, we prepare the food, then while everything is cooking watch movies or play games while eating some appetizers (antipasto and prawn cocktails usually) then lunch, then more veging with movies, champagne, then once we're hungry again the leftovers for dinner! it's brilliant!! But I would love to do the white Christmas once... can only hope that work might send me somewhere snowy for this Christmas since I don;t have any leave to go home. Last year I was in Bangkok- still warm!!! :D
