I saw these pics before and couldn't think what she reminded me of- now I remember- that lo-co airline from Singapore, with yellow uniforms :p It's ooookay, but not the best she has worn. She has an amazing figure though, no wonder everyone is clamoring to dress her, I get teh comfortable shoe thing, but I wouldn't mind seeing a pair in black or red... I think most of her outfits are okay, though the red number she wore when getting off the plane made me giggle, she looked more like a member of the crew because of that hat! :D George is just adorable. Would love to see that old-style baby clothes make a comeback, I think boys can get away with it more

I second getting one made, if you can find a good one for not too much money... also, there seem to be quite a few on Etsy. If you do want to go the online from Disney/S&S route, I believe now they restock the Frozen stuff in-store on Saturdays with dresses being sold via lottery... not sure if they will do them online. However, last week they did have the dresses on the Disney UK site. Tbh getting one made will probably be cuter anyway (unless getting the Limited Edition Disney one which is a bit pricey depending on how well the DD in question looks after clothes- it's more than $100) the regular one I think was £40... I posted some links in a previous enquiry for the crafty mums, one lady has a pattern for sale on Etsy for Anna including the little cloak.

Just wanted to say watch out for thieves, friend and I did it a few months back and they are getting more brazen... had lots of stuff nicked (not money fortunately) seems to be groups of young women, one will ask you about an item (usually clothing) the others will grab stuff while you're not looking :(

Guess you won't know until you try- all kids seems to be different. I have seen lots of mums/dads do they toy bag thing and it seems to work well. You could also try prepping them beforehand so they know what to expect (depends on age I guess) some mums tell me they 'practise' by playing a game with the kids about what will happen on the plane- though if they have flown before they know what to expect. Just remember so long as you are trying your best and not letting them run amok no one really thinks anything of it- anyone giving you dirty looks can go jump. Only tip crew-wise would be if you need anything heated up etc try to give as much notice as you can esp during the trolley service so they have time to get it ready before LO might reach the point of a melt-down... also if they are really small milk seems to be a commodity that runs out quite fast on long flights, esp if lots of kids so you may want to BYO esp if they are choosy as to brand/taste. Can be kept chilled as well as any snacks etc that may need same. If you have a lunch bag it can just be stuck in the chiller with a tag with your seat no etc... hth

[i'>She must be busy preparing her next lecture on how hard they work and what filthy customers they have to deal with blah blah blah de blah blah. She was around last week[/i'> CW you're just lovely, aren't you? Actually I had a personal loss to deal with so coming online to chat wasn't in my list of priorities recently. Everyone is entitled to their opinion whether you or I agree with it or not- my 5c is the same tender as yours! and I don't believe I've ever said that no crew are ever *****, just that not all are and I wish that certain people would recognise that in some cases passengers as well as crew could behave better. As for filthy (your word not mine) I was talking about behaviour not people, anyone who acts normally is fine I was talking at that time specifically about people who fly and treat the plane like their own personal rubbish tip, which I am sure you will agree many people complain about happening in other places quite often on this site. Why it apparently is more acceptable to you to happen on a plane rather than a restaurant is beyond me. Shame about the golf bag thing, I didn't actually know about it either, good that it was brought up at least I can be aware if I have anyone asking about it. As for wheelchairs, doesn't sound correct to me, might be worth checking on. Can depend on the departure point too I think. I do know space onboard for them is limited so it is first come first served for that and the rest are checked in the hold... not sure if they mean first to check in or first to the plane? Mushy I think it'd be worth checking again... Had a guy board after someone else with their own chair so the designated space was full, we managed to secure it in first class but these days the flights seem to be so full not sure it could happen now. Perhaps this is why they have changed the sporting goods allowance- flights are fuller? Was it mentioned as a permanent or temporary change? I ask bc am wondering if it has anything to do with the upcoming flight reductions due to the runway closure at DXB... Sals I was under the impression that other than toddlers under 2, kids fare has been the same? Was that not the case? At least in the time I had been there, that is what they told us (admit I have never had to book for a child myself so no idea) I guess the economic pinch is starting again.... or is it Expo 2020??? edited by SkyKitty on 26/04/2014

Italymom, firstly you need to have a Shop & Ship membership. With this you would get various mailing addresses for their destinations (eg US, UK, China) You can look up the shipping charges on their website. Up to 1lb from US is 42dhs, then up to 2, 77dhs and so on... So you find the items you want on the Disney website, and make your order. In the item description they usually list the item dimensions and weight (If not, try looking up the item on Amazon as they almost always list the weight) When you check out of the Disney site you just use the S&S address in the US (or UK, as applicable) as your shipping address. Disney usually gives free shipping over about $65-70 and £50ish) Otherwise it's about £5 or $7 or so for standard shipping. As I said though, the items in US are more limited (today they do not have any dolls or costumes in stock, but UK store seems to have plush dolls) However if you check back daily they should hopefully restock soon since they are so popular) The item is sent to S&S office in that country who then forward it to Dubai. You are charged depending on the weight. As I said you can generally guess the weight, I round up a bit in the weights to account for packaging. I estimated I'd pay 77dhs when I ordered some items and it was about right. They use those air bubble things inside the box so even though it was large it wasn't overly heavy. HTH and yes I thought you were saying you were looking on S&S website as though the products are ordered directly, until I re-read the post. edited by SkyKitty on 11/04/2014

I nearly cried when on board an Etihad flight and that girl and another came out of the cockpit as cadets. People were really uplifted to see them. There was a general feeling on the aircraft of WOW!! I was surprised at my reaction given my the girls/women in my husbands family are very high achievers in professions usually dominated by men - but there was just something about the two of them :) edited by DesertRose1958 on 07/03/2014 I'm the same- I really love seeing women successful in male-dominated industries (and vice versa!!)

Thanks Skykitty all very interesting. Especially as a question very similar to this was recently raised in the UK over a religiously observant Employee requesting not to serve pork/wine in a supermarket. I didn't see why this should be an issue especially being that many supermarkets have persons as young as 16 working checkout tills who are unable to serve alcohol due to their age in any case. However much public outcry ensued, the Daily Mail had a field day and eventually the supermarket in question revised their policy to say people with religious restrictions will be put on bakery or clothes checkouts wherever possible to avoid such issues. No problem. Tbh I've never even had a crew member not want to serve alcohol, I guess for most who are doing this job they are more 'worldy' (for lack of a better term) in their views anyway so it's not an issue... even many passengers don't seem to have a problem with it- we do pick up alcoholic drinks to serve someone and then serve others and no one has ever told me they have a problem with it. In fact the only issue of this type I've ever encountered was a Hasidic Jewish man who explained he preferred not to be served if any of the female crew were on their time of the month. (as is common in a female dominated industry two of them actually were) so we were honest with him and just had one of the males serve him (this was in a premium cabin so not really any problem). As I said if it was a super sensitive issue then the crew would try to accommodate the customer as best they could...

Your best bet for anything Frozen is probably the online Disney stores (either UK or US) US has better prices but sells out VERY fast (within hours) however UK is a bit more pricey but has items in stock- for example they currently have the plush dolls for £16 each. If you have family there then great, or you can shop and ship it... just be aware they use largish boxes but they are not heavy. I got the DVD on release from Disney store this way, who wants to wait for April or pay Virgin Megastore prices- got the Bluray/DVD/Digi version for USD20. UK has the 3D version if anyone wants that... Keep an eye on both sites as they seem to be restocking a bit more than before due to the DVD release. You could try Etsy also- for example this tutu version. Okay they are selling for $50 plus but you'd end up paying about that at Hamley's for the not even Disney version which IMO aren't that cute or sturdy... [url='>https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/184506112/anna-costume-tutu-dress-cape-girls?ref=sr_gallery_8&ga_search_query=anna+costume+for+girls&ga_ship_to=GB&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery[/url'> And one option for a pattern: [url='>https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/171047173/princess-anna-pdf-complete-pattern?ref=sr_gallery_34&ga_search_query=anna+costume+for+girls&ga_ship_to=GB&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery[/url'> Another option if you LO is desperate is to have a tailor make it- or if you sew there are a few tutorials online of how to make both dresses fairly easily... edited by SkyKitty on 11/04/2014

Nope, all crew must be willing to serve alcohol. It's a question that came up in the interviews for anyone who identified as a Muslim. The logic is, work must be shared equally amongst the crew as it's just not possible to work that way as flights are so busy. Again, it's something that each Muslim would have to decide for themselves if they feel okay with. For some, it's the consumption that counts, whereas for others just touching it is too much. If we can manage it then yes the non Muslim crew would take the bar cart and the Muslims the meal cart but tbh it's never come up as an actual request that I've heard of... Emirati crew do, however, get paid extra to work during Ramadan (and in general due to the different contracts between expats and locals, as in many industries) and generally crew are quite accommodating of those who are fasting- for example we put aside a tray for our fasting colleague and try not to eat in front of them- however most tell us they don't mind and many have told me they feel more accomplished at the end of Ramadan for resisting what is right in front of them. Of course, since they are travelling they are exempted so only have to fast if they choose and if safety was ever in question then appropriate measures would be taken. As far as I know there are a few Emirati female pilots in Emirates, the ones I met were cadets undergoing the initial flight training however that was some time ago so I am sure it would have changed.

I've bought CG online and had it shipped directly here, it was powder foundation. I also tried once or twice from eBay with liquid foundation and once it didn't come through and the other time it did. I guess it depends on who does the checking! I just try stock up when at home now. They keep 'updating' the formula though which is really annoying as there are slight differences in colour!! Which product specifically were you looking for?

It's not true. There are not many, but they are there! Obviously not as many as the men, I've flown with three different Emirati girls. It's probably that they are either independent or from more 'modern' families since they have to wear the same uniform as everyone else. Cabin crew cannot wear the hijab style of scarf like the ground crew do, or trousers since they are not part of the main uniform any more. Applies equally to all crew regardless of religion or nationality. This may be one of the reasons that there are not many Emirati ladies flying. There are however, loads of Emirati women working elsewhere including as pilots and dispatchers. Flydiver, good point about the number of rows, I didn't notice that part. In the case it's the A380, you would definitely be better to try for a seat in row 22 or after. Closer to the lavs, and of the 4 at the aft, one is specifically larger and with hand rails for the elderly/less mobile. And as mentioned, she can sit on the sofa while she waits or if it gets bumpy. Actually on the newer A380s the business class seats are designed for customers using wheelchairs- a mechanism allows the side of the seat to be removed enabling an easier transfer. Again, this is more for the ones needing a seat-to-seat transfer from a wheelchair and won't make much difference to someone able to walk, even if slowly. Agree, the E/F seats can be difficult to get into for those who find it hard to move very well (though this too seems to have improved with the newer cabin design) Could be any number of reasons to have separated the two, like FD says mums with infants may be prebooked in those seats or it could be an issue of having to choose between separating adults and separating parents and kids. Best thing to do is to be early to check in as many of these issues can be resolved by the staff as the earlier you go the more options they have. Once they;ve allocated the seats it does get a bit harder to change things around (though in cases like this the crew would do all they can to help- it can get chaotic esp on full flights when some people refuse to change or everyone is travelling with kids)

Not sure exactly which shirts you want, but the Emirates Official Store usually have the sports shirts. They have a large store in their HQ (2nd floor which is accessible to visitors and can be reached by Metro) and a few branches in the malls and the airport. Perhaps try there.

Ruth M, you do have the option to use the online check in, whether there will be a suitable seat or not I am not sure. Thing is, not all seats are "access friendly" and it can vary wildly from aircraft type to type... You could also try checking back every day, since many business travellers change flights a few days out and at short notice. You might be able to get a new seat if you can jump on it quickly (ditto for checking in early- they can shuffle a latecomer for her usually) In Business class as far as I am aware there are not many 'disabled' seats as such for less mobile people- they are more for those using wheelchairs who need to transfer from chair to plane seat so this may be why they've been given to others. Can I ask if you have booked a meet and assist service for your mother? If she is brought to the plane in a chair and off again, it will be much easier to get the seat sorted as they kind of go hand in hand. In the worst case you can try onboard for the crew to get her to switch seats (much easier in business as many people travel alone and don't mind) I always try to get an able person to move to allow a less mobile elderly person to sit by the bathrooms if they need to be close (not all do) It might help if you know what kind of plane she'll be flying on (it will be on the itinerary) Then check SeatGuru.com which shows where the "accessible" seats are... All the best, let me know if you have any question...

Not in Dubai but I've seen some good ones online... most places will ship worldwide. Also try The Purse Forum always people posting about their bag organisers there. I own one designer bag which is a Speedy 25 and I just use my Samsung tablet as a base, since usually when I use it I'm sitting down and can easily put it back in the base of the bag....

Could depend on the aircraft type... obviously the bigger it is the more they can allow. Or historically perhaps they see that most people only bring one so decided to charge for second to discourage the "I need to bring it-itis" that seems to happen in the Middle East (kid you not, families going for a week taking 3 big cases each) Sucks for everyone else though.... I guess that's why you have a choice who to fly with. SOmetimes worth the extra airfare for better inclusions

I admit, I use FB a lot, mainly so I don't have to send emails back home and can keep my family updated on where I am etc.... I actually considered deleting it/putting it on hold because I got so tired of the whole thing. But then I received a couple of messages from people back home who said they really enjoyed looking at my travel pictures as it gave them a bit of an escape from their problems that they were dealing with (in this cases an illness and a divorce) I try not to be too "in your face" with the pictures, since I know not everyone is lucky enough to be able to travel as I do, so I usually just post the album with some simple caption of where it was taken and leave it up to my friends if they want to look or not. What realllllly annoys me is those people who CONSTANTLY post pictures of their kids. Ok, we get it, yes they are adorable but surely there is something else in your life worth posting about? Your husband? Those nice flowers or sunset you saw today? I do realise though that many of my friends in my age group are all settling down and getting married so it's going to happen. So if anyone overshares about their kids I just ignore or hide the posts. The one that really doesn't make sense to me is when parents post messages to their kids like "my baby's first birthday, love you sooooooooo much sooooooo proud to be your mum" like do your babies have FB? Can they read? I don't get it..... okay if it were written in a diary or something you can give to them later I kind of understand that.... but on FB? Why??

Unfortunately, you cannot rely on the controlled/banned list. Found out last week a medication I'd been using since moving here is banned (had been for some time) despite asking both Customs and two doctors about it specifically shortly after arriving, and last year, and was told no problem. Suggest everyone review medications periodically. Now have the hassle of finding a replacement that is suitable because to me its not worth the risk of bringing it in... and I had no idea because I thought I'd checked properly. Whooping cough is very serious, do not advise to fly, if there is a depressurisation you could get in trouble easily...

OP, can you not write your own review on that site, explaining what you saw? I'm sure the poor staff would appreciate the backup. I once had a customer get very abusive with me through no fault of my own, he made up lies to the purser and a really nice lady gave us her email address and said she was willing to be a witness if anything came of it, since she knew what really happened and heard and saw everything. It really made my day that someone would go out of their way to defend me against someone with no conscience!

And for the US http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/3-1-1-carry-ons Liquids, aerosols and gels, in limited quantities, are safe to bring aboard an aircraft. Each traveler is allowed one bag in order to limit the total volume of liquids, aerosols and gels. Consolidating products into one bag and X-raying them separately from the carry-on bag enables security officers to quickly clear all items. 3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume); 1 quart-sized, clear plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure. Be prepared. Each time TSA searches a carry-on it slows down the line. Practicing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint experience. 3-1-1 is for short trips. If in doubt, put your liquids in checked luggage. Declare larger liquids. Medications, baby formula and food, and breast milk are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding 3.4 ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint. Officers may need to open these items to conduct additional screening.

Actually I think you'll find that Joyce is correct in some cases. It depends on the airport. For example, Heathrow [i'>The following exceptions may be made to the 100ml rule: Liquid medicines: You are only permitted to carry quantities of liquid medication in excess of your personal liquid allowance [u'>where it is needed during the course of your flight[/u'>. All medication should be accompanied by documentary proof of authenticity, such as a prescription or letter from a medical practitioner confirming that you need them for your journey. Liquid medication that is not required on the flight should be carried as hold luggage. Find out more about travelling with medicines.[/i'> I would imagine most airports are the same. If the medication only comes in one size, then it sometimes cannot be helped to take a larger bottle than 100ml. Of course in some places it can be put into a smaller bottle, but that would depend on having a suitable bottle available. Not all 'travel bottles' are suitable or hygienic for medication. Sydney: http://travelsecure.infrastructure.gov.au/international/lags/exemptions.aspx [i'> There are certain exemptions to the quantity limits for liquid, aerosol and gel products that you can take onboard an aircraft. N[b'>ecessary prescription and non-prescription medicines (including special dietary products), medical items and baby products are exempt from the 100 millilitre limit.[/b'> Exempt items do not have to be carried in the clear, resealable plastic bag. All exempt items will need to be presented separately at the airport security screening point. Security screening officers may request proof of need for medications.[/i'> edited by SkyKitty on 16/06/2013

Thanks Purple. Yeah they did mention that I should do it every year. No need to worry, at the time I was eating pleeeeeeenty of gluten-containing stuff ( was on vacation and stuffing my face, lol) I figured it would be a good idea to cut back a bit anyway, especially with my job we tend to bloat a lot anyway and wheat doesn't help much! I just wondered because 'allergy testing' comes across as a bit of a fad here (organic store wanting 2000dhs for testing, geez!)

You ould ask the pharmacist if they can decant it into suitable bottles and label it accordingly? To be honest on the cabin side of things the staff have zero say in whether the liquids come on, aside from keeping them chilled if required. It's the airport and/or security company that have the final say, While most countries say they allow exemptions for medications, we all know it can vary on the day. You could try calling Emirates and asking to be put through to the Medical Services department. They are the ones who do all the approvals fro travelling while pregnant, medical cases etc etc. Perhaps they can best advise you, or maybe even give you a letter. Also worth checking with the airports you will fly through. Most mention this on their website and what documentation, if any, is required. Happy travels!

The bag shop on the top levels usually have just the cheapo cheerful types. But on the bottom floor (where the McDonald's is) are rows of little glass booths/shops and a few of those have the Dior/Chanel copies etc... not cheap, still a few thousand baht but better than the ones upstairs. I've also seen a few stalls with the books. I've never bought a brand copy though so can't speak for the quality.

Is it totally necessary to have to see a specialist for the initial test? A close family member of mine is coeliac, her doctor advised me to go get a blood test for the markers, it could be done at any pathology clinic with a referral and then she said that if it came back positive to book an appointment with her. I went, got the blood work done, (one test for one 'thing' as mentioned) about 5 days later I got the result. They said the result would determine if I needed further testing or not. Mine came back negative, as all my allergy tests have done over the years- but I do notice when I eat a lot of wheat. I haven't cut anything out of my diet entirely, but I do try to substitute when I can e.g. use gluten free pasta at home and if I use a packet mix I try to use gluten free. I feel a lot better when I do this, less heavy, but I don't have coeliac at all like my family member. She'll know right away if she's had anything. For her, sauces and binders at the biggest problem. However, it seems she can eat Cadbury chocolate even though it has small amounts of wheat starch. For some people, this isn't an issue in small amounts. I imagine gluten AND dairy AND egg free is a lot more difficult, however. If you are from the UK or have people travelling a lot to visit, Tesco has some good, inexpensive GF/DF/EF products. I think they're called "Free From" and I buy them when I go to the UK. The Xantham gum is good for cooking.

I think it's low stock at the moment, I saw my dr last week and he said they only had the ointment. But previously I had got it from my local pharmacy and also in that one in Dubai Mall lower floor (I forgot the name of the chain) Just call around and ask if they have it. My pharmacy said they expect more in a few weeks. Pain I know because the ointment is such a hassle, especially if you work in corporate environment. AT least the lotion isn't greasy :) The one I had was in those white pointy bottles with a dark red and white label. If my spare bottle hadn't expired I'd give it to you but it's out by 3 weeks :( edited by SkyKitty on 11/06/2013

Imagine if the post was something like: "I am a doctor, I am very busy all day with my patients, never get a proper break since I have appointments all day, people can be very rude to me, I hardly get any time to eat a snack or catch up on my papers, and then when some emergency happens and I run behind all people do is complain that I am late and barge into my office" everyone here would be saying how rude it was of the patient to enter the office un-announced! Sorry but if her door was closed then it was rude of OP to just 'enter her office'. A closed door in a clinic means wait. Who knows, perhaps she was very hungry and was taking the 2 minutes to eat something. and we all know when you are hungry you can get aggressive and irritable without even realizing that you are. Waiting is inevitable, yes okay she may have said it in a rude way but it's true, if you don't like waiting you are free to leave, find another dr who may or may not be up to the same standard of care. I do wonder how many patients ever ask their doctor "how are you today?" or is it all just me me me... I am sure some of them have to deal with horrendous people. Perhaps if you called to speak to her now that both have had the chance to calm down you can resolve it. But 'repulsive'- I was expecting a thread about inappropriate behavior or some such... Wife of 777, would you have wanted to wait an extra 30mins so the doctor could go have a meal break? Doctors are very busy usually I think she was trying to have a snack without running behind, I find it hilarious you think she should not eat. My doctor always has a coffee whenever I come to the office, I've never had a problem with it since he is still listening to my questions while enjoying a (probably much needed!) pick-me-up!

Michelle Fairley (Catelyn) even said she hasn't watched it yet... but may one day!! Lol... I knew what was going to happen, but still... The producers said they have changed certain things (that readers would have noticed last night) so that it gives them a bit more freedom in certain areas and ties up storylines they want to end so as not to drag it out beyong about 7 seasons...

As long as she cleans up after them I don't see the issue.... after all, kids can also do a lot with pencils (have seen a first class seat completely scribbled over) it's not the materials they are playing with, it's the guidance and supervision (or lack of) For some kids (especially those with special needs) sometimes conventional toys or tv just don't cut it... we had a little boy with autism onboard who was obsessed with those little snack cracker things... I ended up hunting around for the extra packets since he was busy lining them all up on the table and counting them over and over. he just wanted more and more. that's what he liked to do and had zero interest in any pencils or tv. (And his parents cleaned them up afterwards) So no issue at all...

A small solid glue stick should be ok, after all even if it got on the table it's not so sticky that it couldn't be cleaned off. Liquid glue is much harder (plus it has to fit in your little bag)

Play-Doh should be ok as long as you keep it off the carpet, I see kids with it quite a lot. Glue, probably not a good idea. And for the love of gawd, if you bring stickers, pleeeeease do not let the kids stick them all over the table and tv screens, they are he!! to remove and affect the next customer...

Egg, depends on the building and the bbq. Many apt building actually forbid use of bbq on balconies or at all. It's a fire risk to lower floors.

No, not backwards compatible. That's what I like about Wii, Nintendo have always kept their systems compatible with past gen games. Not sure many families want to start over... With Wii, I think you can only download to the machine you are using, with the eshop. If you have Wii U, there was a fault early on (now repaired) where used consoles kept the previous owner's info. Nintendo fixed that though

Sive, did I mention you? No. Pikachu asked about criminals on games and I responded with some general info in that 2nd post. Never said I was perfect. But kids getting hooked on games usually starts somewhere... and that is usually when they are not being watched ( I know, I was one of those kids who would play all day if I could). Don't be naive. Kids may not have credit cards- but WE do. You seriously think kids won't get mum's card from her purse to buy more points/time/games? Get real. They only need to do it once and the scammers have your number. Can and has been done. Why do you think they target kids? I never said you were irresponsible, yet you chose to think I meant you. Clearly hit a nerve. If he was able to be friended by strangers then obviously neither he or you knew the capability of the machine. Luckily you learnt the lesson before any real harm was done. Something for all parents/aunts/elder siblings to consider. Pikachu parents can buy points, problem is sone systems can store financial info and if the oassword is given out they can rack up charges on your account. Hence the prepaid cards sold for xbix and psn now.

Pikachu, there are plenty of scams out there on xbox live and PSN, usually involving fraudsters getting cc info or stealing 'points'. But any responsible parent would hopefully have discussed not giving personal info to strangers, and failing the maturity level required, disabled that functionality on a system. Think of it as the same as internet access. They can chat to and exchange info with complete strangers. Would you allow it unregulated on a pc?
