I get mine done at Ted Morgan and love it, never had an issue - although my hair isn't particularly dark to start with. Price isn't that bad either and I have really long hair. Mine tends to last quite a while as I let it practically grow out before I have it done again so easily 8 months between each touch up (I think a year has been the longest). Definitely worth saving up to get it done properly.

I think its definitely worth a consideration. DH and I bought our apartment earlier this year. We had already lived here for 3 years. The apartment came up for sale so we bought (rising rents etc). I absolutely love living here, its so convenient. The build quality isn't spectacular but a lot better than some other places i've seen. The finishings are ok, not great but they are only aesthetics and can be changed. We also looked in Sport City, Remraam, JVC and in a few other random places and none were anywhere near as good value for money. We bought in Fox Hill which also have massive terraces, and are on the main street.

Hi Maybe have a look at the Eyes website - http://www.eyes-me.com/ they do qualifications for nursery teachers. Not sure about primary school teaching qualifications, maybe give them a ring and ask. No idea on salary though, I would imagine it would vary considerably from school from school, nursery to nursery. Good luck!

Ok, so firstly, there is a US forum (google and you'll find it) which is only about turtles. On the forum are some good fact sheets on everything you need to know, ie food, tanks etc and it is good advice. *The below is on the assumption you have red eared sliders.* Secondly, they do not grow to the size of the tank. The size will be dependent on how much you feed them and whether they are male or female. You will not be able to find this out for some time, usually after a year or so (just hope you have two of the same!!). Females can get to the size of dinner plates, males are much smaller (4/5 inches). For tanks, agree that dragon mart is good. I got mine from the aquarium store in Lulu near MOE. At the moment though you don't want a massive tank as the little guys will still be learning to swim and it will be too deep. I've found the new pet shop in DIP to be good for the bulbs. For the smell, this can be easily solved once you have a decent sized tank. Get a filter rated 2/3 times the size of the tank. This keeps the smell under control and will also reduce how often you need to clean (I do a deep clean only every 6 months). Also get some of those scum eating fish. Yes the little guys may eat them occasionally but they make a huge difference in helping keep the tank clean. Once you get them up and running they are the easiest pets to maintain. Oh, with the basking, you need to make sure the basking temp is high enough. Also try leaving some food on the basking platform and you'll find they will eventually find their way up there more. Good luck!

I live in one of the Fox Hill buildings in Motorcity. Not sure if there are studios in these buildings but can tell you about the area. Also would not recommend having Emirates NBD Properties as your landlord. Been trying to get hold of their leasing department for the last 2 months to no success. I absolutely love living here though. There are so many convenient places, you don't actually need to leave Motorcity over a weekend. Its a friendly family orientated place and I find it very peaceful. Love sitting on the balcony over a weekend. Downsides are that you do need a car to get around as there are no public transport links. Plus Emicool is expensive. Rents are also shooting up here.

Bernie, a male 5/6 month old kitten, has two settings - 1. Running around like a nutcase 2. - Crashed out on you. He is just simply one of the best cats I have been around. Hes very very affectionate but has such a massive personality. My favourite is his wish to tell you about what he has done/is about to do in his weird rumbling meow. Bernie would be perfect for a professional couple as he is absolutely fine being on his own during the day (as long as he has toys he can keep himself entertained) and is brilliant at night, no meowing or pestering for attention (even on those days when you want a lay-in). Likewise he would make a wonderful edition to any family who want a cat who will become a much loved member. Bernie will be vaccinated or neutered this week. He was found with very serious injuries a few weeks ago from a dog bite so we have been waiting for him to be fully recovered. On account of his injuries, Bernie should not go into a home with dogs as he is terrified of them. He is however, fine with other kitties. It would also be advisable that he remain an indoor kitty so he does not come into contact with the.. If you would be willing to give Bernie the home he deserves please get in contact. I mimic daylight hours as much as I can with our lamps. So they come on when we get up and off when we go to bed. Used to use a timer and put them on for 14 hours but it was irritating as the tanks in the living area. I would recommend getting a thermometer and checking the temp on the basking spot. Can't remember exactly what it would be but high 20s I think. If its warm enough it will be fine. You know if they enjoy it as they will stretch out their legs, or fall asleep :D You just need to make sure its warm enough for them to dry out fully on there. I've never heard any reports of them being unsafe and we haven't had any issues with ours (we use the long ones and fit them in the tank hood).

I just had my reception in Ajman at the Kempinski. We had ours indoors though as we preferred somewhere really private. We had around 4, maybe 5 different people up DJing throughout the night (all guests and/or DH), and they didn't ask for any license/funds for each person. I also found they were the most reasonable hotel out of all the ones we looked at (which was virtually every hotel in Dubai, RAK and Fujariah as we wanted a beach location as well). Happy to answer any questions you might have. edited by Snuffle on 17/11/2013

I had pain for years in my knees and a funny run/walk. Doctors in the UK always said it was growing pains and I would grow out of it. Fast forward to a year or so ago and could barely sleep because of the pain in my knee at night (I'm now late 20s). Went to the Dubai Podiatry Centre down Sheikh Zayed Road, turns out one of my legs is longer than the other! I saw a young Scottish lady called Emma. Highly recommend them, very professional and knew almost immediately what was wrong.

Drive whatever you like! 350z are girls cars in my opinion anyway. Coming from a girl who drives a Shelby :D My only query would be the price though or is a special editon like the Nismo? Thats a lot for a 350z, i'm sure you can now pick up a brand new 370z for 140k straight from the showroom. Have a look on Dubizzle to make sure you arent paying too much. When I was looking around at them, I was expecting to pay 70/80k for one about 12 months old.

I've got a red earred slider as well, had him 5 years....rescued him from some lady who kept him in one of those little blue island 'tanks'... Just a couple of things 1) for the uv lamp watch out as some of the stores claim they are uv but they aren't so make sure you double check it. I think it was the aquarium bit jn Ace ( Festival city) that I saw them recently. You should also look to change it every 6 months as they don't last too long. 2) food wise, dried shrimp should only be given as a treat. I used a combination of turtle pellets, Koy food (when he needs to shred) and live fish. You should also make sure there are veggies (water plants) for them in the tank. Little ones tend to be less inclined towards veggies but they need them. Google what plants are safe to give them. 3) Just to check that in conjunction with the uv lamp you should also have a lamp for heat over the basking stop. I just use a normal high wattage bulb as the proper ones are hard to get here and expensive. And have fun! They do make lovely pets and cause endless entertainment.

If you got them from a pet shop here then possible they were ill already (guessing they were also Red Earred Sliders). Turtles do take quite a bit of looking after and sadly most of the pet shops here just don't look after them correctly. Its difficult to say what caused it without more details. What size tank did you get (and how big were the turtles)? Was it heated? Also did you have a basking area with a lamp? Did you have a UV lamp as well? Were there any signs of ill health before, like white spots on the shell, listing in the water, lethargy or did the turtle stop eating? I wouldn't beat yourself up over it though, my little girl died about 6 months ago with no obvious ill health, it was just one of those things. edited by Snuffle on 17/02/2012

northerstar, get your daughter to just simply apply to every law firm she can find. Not only the large western ones but the smaller firms. There are also quite a few legal recruiters who may be able to help. She needs to find one firm who will give her a chance, as once you get some UAE experience, the other firms seem to come calling. I graduated 2008 with a law degree and managed to get into a small firm. I recently (Dec) started to look around for a new job and have already had an offer. So they are looking for people. But as Bella said, getting trained is almost impossible and it may be that she would need to look down other avenues which relate to the legal industry if she wanted to stay here for any length of time. Good Luck!

We originally separated but the older babies kept attacking the younger babies so we just keep them all together in the large tank where they have more chance of getting away (into the jaws of our turtle :D ). Just make sure that you break up the fish food flakes or whatever you feed them on into smaller pieces so they can eat it. edited by Snuffle on 15/11/2011

I think there was a deadline on it (Nov 3rd maybe or somewhere around then). The discount showed up on the police website for me when it was active. I re-registered about 3 weeks ago though so can't check to see if my fines have gone back to their normal rates. Heres the Gulf New article http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/traffic-transport/big-incentive-to-pay-dubai-traffic-fines-1.863426 Looks like it should be running until December. edited by Snuffle on 14/11/2011

This will also be our 3rd Christmas where we stay here. Last year it was lovely. We went out with friends for a few drinks Christmas Eve. Then on the day itself we cooked a roast dinner (most of which I prepared the day before), had a homemade dessert and then just watched Christmas films. We keep the curtains closed as well to keep the sun out and make it feel more wintry. I also tend to go a bit mad with the decorations! Hehe..."keep the curtains closed"...I don't blame you! I think we'd do the same to recreate the wintery feel we'd get back in the UK! Have to admit, with the last couple of days of overcast weather and rain here and there, it's felt more like home than ever and I've loved it! I must be mad wishing for British weather! Oh the curtains definitely help. I still miss a good ole dingy bit of sky and some rain. Although I don't miss feeling cold constantly! I think you will be (pleasantly) surprised with Christmas here. The shops tend to go all out with the decs and I saw a place in Karama the other day which was purely cheap Christmas tact. It was brilliant. With the high ceilings in most places its also plenty of room for a massive tree :D

Well I think there was something else involved because I have assisted with numerous court cases on gratuity and not once has it been decided this way. Its always based on the last salary received.

Gege_DXB that is so incorrect. All of the gratuity is calculated on the last salary received by the employee, not each years salary! Please read Article 134 Gege, it will confirm it. edited by Snuffle on 08/11/2011

Crystalsindubai is right. Your EOSBs are calculated on the last salary received, it doesn't matter if this is the same as the one in your employment contract or not as long as your bank records or salary certificates confirm a different salary. Its natural for a salary to increase with time and not all companies release amendments to the contract. As to Gege_DXBs other comments, I've not clue what thats about :\:

I'm in a one bed in Foxhill and absolutely love it (just renewed for the second time)! Although it is getting to the stage where the communal areas are getting a bit scruffy and need a repaint. My place faces the gardens at the back as I wasn't sure how loud it would be the other side with all the traffic. Most days I can sit out on the balcony and just hear birds and the odd voice. We can hear occasional noise from the apartment above but its not disturbing. I also love how close the shops and restaurants are. I've got a friend on one of the ground floor apartments with a small dog and they don't seem to have any problems. I think the balcony is ok for a small dog or a medium dog if they were given regular walks through the gardens. Only thing to consider in the area is the high cooling bills. I had a bill of over AED 700 for cooling in september, usually its around 300-400 a month.

Eden Park Do you mean Eden Lake, where the teenagers chase down that couple? I found that really disturbing, didn't like it at all. My favourite is Childsplay. Always loved this film. I quite like the original Nightmare on Elms Street just because the effects are good for a giggle. And not really a scary movie but I love Beetlejuice as well.

Similar to what Stilladviceseeker said below. You need to keep in contact with the bank and try to clear some of the debt prior to coming here. I had a friend who ran off leaving behind a large debt (350k+) but she kept in touch with the bank as she promised to pay them when she could. She was told that they wouldn't file a case against her but if she reentered the country, they would be informed and they would file immediately. She would then have an arrest warrant out for her and she would be unable to work as her visa would be blocked. The only way she could prevent this was by paying 50% of the remaining debt before coming over. She couldn't do this and decided that the risk was too great and stayed where she was.

Jillp, I think its near the bottom of the card where it states "vehicle permitted". My colleague said the little star means I'm permitted to drive both manual and auto. I don't think they ask but take it from your original license. Dubizzle is your best bet for finding a second hand car, most of the dealerships and the second hand car market tend to be expensive. Although this isn't always the case, one of my cars I picked up from a dealership cheaper than anything on Dubizzle for the same. As everyone else has said Alfas are generally cheap because they are expensive and difficult to maintain here.

My DH had the same issue when he changed jobs recently however, as it was taking ages for his new visa they asked him to fly out and back in onto a visit visa to stop the fine increasing. As it was he was still 3 months over his grace period. He was advised at immigration to take some cash with him and just pay at the airport. He ended up paying AED 1000 and everything was fine coming back in. But I would go to immigration if you can and just check, you know how these things change from month to month.

Thats disgusting. Where do you live? My car was vandalised a few months ago although thankfully nothing which cannot be repaired without much fuss. I would perhaps do a bit of Googling to see if there is anyway to remove it easily. Otherwise I would probably get a police report and claim on the insurance to get it resprayed or the panel replaced.

Drink plenty of water during the day as well as it keeps liquids...flowing. I believe 8 glasses is recommended. Also, you may not be eating enough. You need to make sure you eat a healthy amount of food to stop your body entering starvation mode when it will begin storing fat. Its also not looking for the quick fix, you have to change your lifestyle. Eating and exercising healthily. I work long hours so at the weekend cook up bulk foods (soups, curries etc) and then I freeze them for the rest of the week.
