1) I've had a few taxis do this as they are ending their shift and my place is quite far out for them to travel home from. Which I do understand, I'm always keen to get home as quickly as possible. 2) I swear I heard years ago that they should always carry a minimum of AED 50 in change so I would report anyone who was trying it on.

Ah, well yeah, they will probably have a go, especially when they are basking. I have heard other keepers through building "covers" out of chicken wire to prevent cats getting in but still allowing air circulation/basking etc. Might be worth looking into. Or if you've got room for a tank, then sometimes you can find large tanks coming up on Dubizzle for cheap, and in Dragon Mart the prices aren't too bad.

Do you mean tortoise owners Plum2? Turtles are kept in fish tanks so not much problem with cats (I have both), just like having fish. If however, I take my little guy out at any point, the cats are incredibly nosy and I am sure would give him a bit of a batter of they could get close enough. Just for anyone contemplating the turtles, you need to ensure you get a tank large enough for them. They should also have the right lighting and a basking area inside so they can get out of the water and dry off completely. Plus research on their diets. Its best to use a decent turtle pellet twice a week and water plants for grazing. (this is all assuming they are red earred sliders which are most commonly found here). I can't believe someone would just dump them because they couldn't be bothered any more, what is wrong with some people?!

Never. Maybe he did when we first got together but not now. The most I can expect on a night out or something is "yeah it's fine" or "I like that dress/top etc", which is about the highest compliment I can expect.

There was recently a programme on the BBC about marriage between cousins where it was shown that it does give a higher chance of defects in children. I can't remember the exact details but by marrying within the family you have a higher chance of recessive genes coming into play because you are not introducing new genes to override these genes. IYSWIM Personally, I wouldn't and couldn't *ever* marry my cousin. It does repulse me because I see them as family, such as I would see my father, brother, grandfather etc. I lost touch with three of my cousins after my parents divorced but bizarrely they came out here for a family holiday just after I settled here and we managed to meet up. My other cousin is quite young and did for some time think I was his big sister. Not sure if thats still the case as I don't get to see him much now.

The spinneys at Motorcity also usually has crumpets. They are in the fridge section with all the fresh pasta and sauces. I would be asking for nice and spicy nic naks and food from a proper chinese!

Your DH should be able to rely on the MOL contract and give 1 month but I'm not sure the company will like that and may kick up a stink. With the NOC, as everyone has said he should work for 2 years BUT from what I've read, if he has a degree, which was registered with the MOL for his visa and he earns the minimum salary qualifications, he can move without a ban or NOC. But, I haven't seen anything which indicates if this retrospective or applies to everyone from now on. He should really give the MOL a quick call, they are usually pretty good.

Is the company which he currently works for a local company (like an LLC) or in a Free Zone? If a Free Zone, which Free Zone? I assume the employment contract with the varied notice periods is his English contract, has he got another one? If hes with a local company it will be a greenish document with both English and Arabic.

Hey, Not really any advice, but I can sympathise. Been here 3 years nearly and the same age as you. Always worked in an office with no one even close to my age and its been so hard to meet people. Most 20 somethings also seem to spend their weekends getting trashed which is great once in a while but doesn't half get boring and expensive every weekend. There are a few other places ( expat forums) where they do regular meets for younger people. Maybe do some googling and you should come across them.

No, if its a Government company then the usual Labour Law doesn't apply and the Ministry of Labour have no authority. Are there any company policies or guidelines which he can review? I'm not sure if Dubai has a separate labour law for Government employees, I think Abu Dhabi does. He might need to do some research. Was his employment contract revised when the new changes came in? Is it notified anywhere?

Tonight is car hunting (yet again) and then taking Xmas decs down. Tomorrow I've got to come into work (boooo) and clean the apartment whenever I manage to get home. Saturday some elderly relatives arrive and need entertaining. Anyone want to swap? :(

Haha, I went through the same with Du as I wasn't receiving the paper bills! I can't access the log in page through FF for DEWA either. Flags up something about security certificates.

The DIFC has its own labour law so the Labour Department wouldn't be able to help. The law is on their website so tell her to have a read through it to see if she is entitled to one. Otherwise it will just be a negotiation point.
