How about DesertCart, has anyone tried that? https://www.desertcart.ae/ "We have a one off shipping fee of AED 25 on all orders. However, if your order exceeds AED 250, shipping is on us!" Hi UmmSalah If you do a search here you'll see a lot of negative reviews about Desert Cart. I wouldn't use them.

@ThirdCultureFamily thank you so much for detailed post about homeschooling here, I had always wondered about it and this answers so many of my questions. I agree there are a lot of misconceptions about home schooling - and it seems you made that extra effort to make your kids social too. I can see the pros and cons to both it's just about finding what works for your family and your kids. @Janatks (OP) if you will homeschool you really will need to be a full time stay at home mom. If you plan on teaching them in the evening, it's not the best time for them to learn they will be quite tired and uninterested by then. It seems things are financially tight for you so quitting your job might not be an option, I can't really offer you a solution but hope you find something thats best for your family :)

Yup, Lulu and Union Co-op, as well as discount centres such as Kabayl Discount Centre in Deira. They all have large rolls and will cut for you according to your measurement.

Actually Amazon recently changed their shipping policy and ship ALOT of items direct to UAE through Aramex. If you make an Amazon.com account and make UAE your delivery address, they will clearly mark on the items when you search, whether they ship to UAE or not. I've bought a lot of things recently (small toys for DD, shoes for DD, some skincare serums) all shipped directly to my home or office address (not PO Box).

Are there any services that consolidate multiple packages before shipping them (to save shipping costs)? I guess that wouldn't be in their interests, but we've had a service like that in Egypt and it saved a ton compared to SNS. hi Borderlinx does that :) The cost of shipping is combined but you still get separate packages. So if 1 box is from Amazon, and 1 is from Sephora, you'll pay for combined shipping but get each box separately, delivered at the same time though!

If expats have to pay a VAT then expats need more of a position in this country (passport after a certain amount of time here, free/cheaper schooling, etc). Countries that have VAT also give their citizens and expats rights and a chance to make something of themselves in the country long-term. Not a visa thats finished as soon as your job is and you get booted out of the country.

lakesidelady - your pink visa page on your passport needs to have the red "Cancelled" stamp on it for it be considered cancelled. If not, then it's a much longer process to reenter the country.

Hi ladies, I think my long thread title explains it all - I'm looking to get health insurance which has good maternity coverage and is reasonable (if there is such a thing!) I'm not pregnant at the moment. I checked with AXA and their rates have increased since I was with them last. The insurance package to cover American Hospital is costing me AED 22,000. For City Hospital the cost is AED 14,000, with a limit of AED 25,000 on maternity costs. Is this a good package? Any other recommendations?

it has become more but there is also a HUGE price difference in Spinneys vs. Carrefour/Coop. For instance, I buy those small red circle Babybel cheeses at Careefour for about 9dhs for a pack, the SAME pack at Spinneys is for about 18dhs! Not everything has such a difference in price but it gives you an idea of how expensive Spinneys/Waitrose can get!

I find the staff at beauty stores here so frustrating, I do most of my shopping online. I have acne scars and the occasional pimple, and I'll usually get an extra-helpful salesperson coming and asking me embarrassingly loudly "Maam do you want something for your pimples?" It's irritating, and worse they usually have very little knowledge of the products! I'm still obsessed with Korean skincare so I'm always trying new stuff from [url=http://www.thebbcreamgirl.com'>The BB Cream Girl online store[/url'> in UAE. I love the Innisfree brand for skincare in particular, it feels like they actually do use mostly natural ingredients, sort of like Body Shop. I'm so done with my trips to Boots and Debenhams!

I sent my daughter to Learning Tree nursery in Executive Towers and was very happy with them. It's small but new and they have great activities for the kids and staff was very friendly and helpful. Fees are also more reasonable compared to other nurseries. [url=http://www.learningtree.ae/programmes.aspx'>LearningTree.ae[/url'> In Downtown there's Jumeirah International Nursery which has a few other branches too and is rated one of the top nurseries in Dubai. Fees are high though. [url=http://www.jinspire.com/'>Jinspire.com[/url'>

Once your company cancels your visa you have a 30 day grace period to stay in the country. As long as you start the process for your new visa within those 30 days you're okay and won't get a fine.

We used to buy the long life milk when travelling (Al Ain/Lac Nor). You can get it in small sizes too to put in your bag, 200ml each small carton I think, available at most supermarkets. I didn't really like giving DD long life milk but its a lifesaver when travelling! On the plane you can pour it into the bottle and ask them to warm it up a bit for you.

Have you looked at Dubai British School in Springs and Dubai British Foundation? The Foundation is near Springs, and Dubai British School gets rave reviews on here if you do a search. They are not GEMS which some parents find a plus! Dubai British Foundation nursery section: http://www.dubaibritishfs.ae/our-location/uncategorised/our-location Dubai British School http://www.dubaibritishschool.ae/ Just to add, if your littles ones are 3, they need to start FS1 now if you plan on going into the British System. Children who turn 3 by 31 August go into FS1 :)

Hi, Last year the paid covered parking was 5 an hour, not sure about this year. There is also free open parking on the Novotel side but it's quite hot and theres a bridge to cross over! They have a mini Zoom inside Sports World, and there is a Loop cafe that is open for take away.

Just FYI I got some Manuka Honey today from Holland & Barrett in Dubai Mall and they have an offer for buy 1 get 1 half off. The lady said for babies UMF rating 5+ is enough, for adults 10 to 15 UMF rating is good. Higher is more nutritious but you shouldn't have more than a teaspoon a day of the high rated ones. I got a good deal on Manuka Gold brand and it tastes amazingggg. DD is down with a sore throat really hoping it helps her!

I have been on 2 different insurances at the same time (1 my own, 1 from my company) and there was a 4 month overlap in which I didnt face any issues. I chose not to renew my personal one since I had one from work, but no one even asked! It is worth investigating further though, maybe i just got lucky!

When chickens, goats etc are killed for food, they are killed in the quickest way possible to reduce any suffering. In Islam, you cannot eat an animal that has been tortured, even if its something generally permissible like chicken. This event is barbaric because these animals will be tortured and it seems even eaten alive! I dont care if its a goat or a *** or a cat or a dog, torturing animals is just barbaric, for whatever purpose.

I think people here need elevator manners: - Let people get out of the elevator first before barging in - Dont crowd in just because you can, causing people to have to rub up against each other - Dont get in an elevator thats going down, press a floor up, and then get annoyed when it goes down - Parents with pushchairs get priority - you can take the **** escalator! Driving etiquette is a whole other topic!

I recently went through the process of sponsoring my husband and have posted here: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic225465-sponsoring-husband-and-daughter-for-residency-visa.aspx There are no nationality restrictions, salary plays a large part in it, and he will only get a 1 year visa. If he takes on a job at any point, he has to go on his company's visa. The rule here is a wife can work full time while on her husband's visa, but a husband cannot take a full time job on his wife's visa. I sponsor my husband and his visa is for 2 years. Hi Kezzler, Thats interesting, perhaps the 1 year visa for husbands is a new rule, since my daughter and I got a 3 year visa (my company is semi-government), yet my husband only got 1 year!

Hi ladies, I've used Borderlinx for my last few US purchases and been really happy with them. The cost came to cheaper than Aramex, there was no sign up fee, and because they use DHL I got my package 2 days after I was notified that it was with Borderlinx and it was released. I bought small items like makeup so I cant vouch for their prices on big items.
