Congrats all! I just passed 14 weeks and got the joy of calling family yesterday to let them know. That was SO much fun! This is our first, so I'm definitely nervous, especially being so far from friends & family. Glad to find this forum. I've only had a little bit of morning sickness (night sickness, actually). Lucky so far! :-) I know what you mean KC1, both last time and this time my morning sickness has definitely been worse in the evenings! Glad to hear you've haven't felt too bad though, enjoy this second trimester :)

Hey yaya5, if its any help, when I had my baby last year, I was on a tourist visa, husband had a residence visa. I know that's not exactly the same circumstances. I hope you find your answer soon :)

Try Fetal Medicine Center in Healthcare City. Not sure about prices but might be on their website or else they could tell you over the phone. www.my-baby.net

We had our first with Dr. Ibrahim last year and now seeing him again for number two. We were very happy with the care we received throughout the pregnancy & birth. There was good communication and a good relationship between doc/midwife during the birth, it felt very calm and I felt like I was in safe hands. Plus, his nurse is lovely and super on-the-ball when it comes to admin/insurance approvals etc. I've heard and read great recommendations about various OBs at City, so plenty to choose from. There are also OBs who deliver at City, even though they are based elsewhere. My friend went for this option as she lived at Jebel Ali and found trekking to City with two little ones for each appointment was too much!

I'm also on number two twin_butterfly and certainly looking and feeling like I overdid it at lunch. Will be glad when I look definitely pregnant rather than like someone who ate too many pies! With regard to getting further testing done, I know Fetal Medicine Centre in Healthcare City offer a blood test (from you, not the baby). They combine the results with the nuchal translucency measurement from the 12week scan & cross reference it with your age etc to generate a statistical likelihood for several chromosomal disorders. It could perhaps put your mind further at ease. Apologies if you already know all of this or have had it done! Our 12 wk scan went well; seeing that little person squiggling round and doing their own thing in there was just as exciting and mesmerising as first time round :) Homous, I hope you're starting to feel a little better! I have definitely felt more nauseous this time around and at 13 weeks, it only just seems to be beginning to ease off now. I also find crackers in the handbag help! BluSAVANNAH, I've also been wiped out with tiredness some afternoons, I'm sure it's worse when I've been out in the heat but its sometimes all I can do to keep my eyes open and it always seems to coincide with my daughter being wide awake and active and never with her nap times...times like that it would be handy if she had little batteries I could take out for a while! Hope you're all keeping well x

And in my childbearing days there was a study indicating that Spina Bifida was caused by eating green potatoes. These studies individually prove nothing for certain, are frequently wrong and only cause concern to parents. It's a great pity that researchers are not a little more cogniscent of the panic their prematurely published papers cause to real people. Well said, Livelytrish!

Hi Jupiter, I was in the same boat as Gilly3, fairly mild GD but it really caught me by surprise! My OB is at City, so he referred me to an endocrinologist there, who in turn suggested I see the dietician at Dubai Mall medical clinic. Just like Gilly3, it was controlled by diet (no fun at all for me cutting out the carbs, or for anyone else around me, lol!) and I had to email a weekly record of blood glucose readings to the endocrinologist. In the end, I had a normal delivery at 38 1/2 weeks with a healthy girl weighing 2.77kg (6lbs1oz) so don't worry too much about gargantuan babies! I know it's not much fun, but at least by knowing about the condition, you'll be able to take control of it and manage it. My blood glucose returned to normal after the birth, although I'm expecting again now and really hoping I don't get diagnosed any earlier this time around! Hope this helps x

I was listening to a feature about this on the radio earlier which mentioned that the correlation and cause/effect is not yet understood, e.g. it's possible that babies who later develop autism fail to send out the chemical signals for labour to begin naturally.

On a friend's advice, we just moved the 10pm feed to 7pm, giving to her just as she goes to bed. (So dinner, bath etc, bottle, bed) Probably not text book but it works for us! :)

Just in case you're still looking, I got a Cuisinart kettle in Tavola in Mirdiff City Centre. Can set temp to either 85 or 100 and displays water temp constantly. Has been really handy with a baby!

That is a very high salary they are asking. The relevant embassies actually set minimum salaries for their live in domestic workers: Bangladeshi: 750 AED Indonesian: 800 AED Sri Lankan: 825 AED Indian: 1,100 AED Filipina: 1,400 AED These figures are direct quotes from the "maid" section of EW - please check it out. I have a live in Indonesian maid and I pay her 1,000 aed per month. Wow, these aren't the sort of figures I was expecting to see at all. I'm horrified...750dhs a month? I could spend that much on a single Spinneys trip! I really hope people appreciate these figures as MINIMUM wages. Mrsb, I'm not commenting on your post personally, rather the official figures quoted within it.

Look up 'Pure Fitness'. They run different classes around Dubai, many of which you can take your baby along too.

I also packed some clothes hangers. Glad I had packed the breastfeeding cushion too...not forgetting the nipple cream either! We packed some snacks (muesli bars etc) handy for if you get peckish in the night...although you can order food to your room around the clock :)

I delivered at City with Dr Ibrahim and can only speak highly of him and our experience. We attended him on the recommendation of friends and also my GP at Festival City DLC. Throughout our visits and the birth, we found him to be friendly, professional, thorough, knowledgeable and we felt in very competent hands throughout. One of the midwives at City was pregnant at the time and had also chosen him to deliver her baby, which I had been interested to find out as someone who would have worked alongside many of the OBs! What's more, the midwife I have been visiting for well baby checks in another clinic told me she has noticed he has a noticeably higher rate of natural deliveries (without interventions such as forceps etc). Hope this is helpful! :)

I've just been on the phone with ADNIC and they told me that although there is no waiting period, they would not cover me if I was already pregnant - doesn't match up with what I've read on other ADNIC threads, so not sure if they've changed their policy or rep told me the wrong info on the phone. Hope you get sorted out! :)

Does anyone happen to know where you can get them in Dubai? I'd like some for tonight...nothing like being a bit last minute!
