If you transfer a maid, having just renewed her visa, are you entitled to any reimbursement of costs? Either from the authorities or the new sponsors? No, when you transfer a maids visa it's the same costs as getting a new visa.

Public holidays are for everyone, maids included... So either you give her needed days off or you pay her for additional working days instead I think the people in the hospitality industry and working in the malls missed this memo... And they DO fall under the Labour Law! The service industry has exceptions.

TBH not much you can do it's a he said she said scenario. My son said a TA pinched him on the shoulder once and it really hurt. I spoke to the class teacher and head of school and was told that they spoke to the TA and she said she'd tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. She apologized to my son for maybe tapping him too hard. She said she didn't mean to upset him. To this day, 3 years later he still swears he was pinched not tapped and asks why an adult was allowed to lie.

We've just been to a beautiful wedding BBQ. There were about 20 of us though. It was at a friends villa and her wonderful DH did all the BBQ. It was a lovely atmosphere. Ps also heard that you can book out The Farm for special occasions with BYO but not sure how true it is. edited by starsouthern on 07/11/2012

We've got a Pajero and a Audi Q7. Both fit three seats across. Obviously it depends on what car seats you've got too. It's worked for both our cars with a combinations of 2 full car seats and 1 capsule then 3 three full car seats then 2 full car seat and 1 booster then 1 full car seat and 2 boosters. We have a mixture of Maxi Cosi and Mothercare seats. I have a Pajero and there is no way that 3 full size carseats can fit on the back seat unless you have narrow models of carseats. At the mo, we have Safety 1st full carseat and Mothercare booster and there is just a bit of space left in the middle. I have a Pajero too and it doesn't fit 3 full carseats either. I have a Graco Booster and a Maxi Cosi Toby and there is barely space for one child to sit in the middle.

A friend of mine recently went through this. She looked into avenues of staying. She ended up paying for a free zone license school fees etc rent etc. After her DH had been away a year he stopped paying maintenance and child support. He quit his job to find himself. She couldn't make ends meet here so had to go home. She was dreading going back for the same reasons you are, but it's the best decision she's made. Her kids have settled in really well and life is far easier for them. She has a support network of people in a similar situation to her. Her kids aren't always asked why doesn't your daddy live with you? every day like they were here.

First of all, it doesn't sound like your LO is spoilt if he behaves well at home. There could be a number reasons, teacher not using appropriate methods to discipline (positive reinforcement) or s/he is too soft on him or finds that he is not being challenged in the classroom academically, so gets bored and then misbehaves. Don't beat yourself up, it is only his first year at school and only the first semester, I am sure he will settle soon, school is a big change for them and maybe he just needs some time to adapt. Sorry to me this child seems totally indulged and that's why he behaves this way. Acting sweet at home does not mean well behaved. Some parents think the kind of behaviour OP talks about is sweet. In a school or social environment it is unacceptable. I have a friend who can't understand why teachers say her son doesn't listen at school or do what he's told. She says he listens well at home and always does what he's told, however she or her husband will ask him to do something ten times before he does it. They think this is normal, however can you imagine what it would be like in class if 16+ kids have to be told what to do ten times? To me a child who does what they are told does it the first time. So I understand why the teacher thinks he has an issue. To the OP I think maybe you should go and see the Supper Granny as she maybe able to help you with dicipline issues that you might not see you have.

As long as your DH is resident - no problems - I've done it! You just have to be here legally, the particular visa you're on doesn't matter To be honest, you may find your DH doesn't even need to be resident - as long as you're both here legally and can prove you're married. I wasn't asked for proof myself, but have heard of others who have. edited by Kooky on 20/10/2012 I did it too and was told that one of us had to be resident but it didn't matter which one, to make things less complicated.

Hi Bubbles The anomaly scan is not conducted anywhere except the Nine Clinic and the FMC (Fetal Medicine Centre) so I doubt Belhoul was doing the anomaly scan for you (I may be wrong). It is not a standard scan and therefore not covered by insurance - these are the only two places I was told do the scan in Dubai. It costs 1,000 - 1,250aed and takes about 30 - 45 mins as they do a detailed check of every single organ, growth rate, baby's size and head circumference, length of femur etc, brain. During my standard scans, the Dr makes measurements and checks heart, brain etc but anomaly took longer. Maybe double check or do a search on here in case anyone else got theirs done at Belhoul. You should get a really detailed report with all the percentiles of growth. City Hospital don't do the anomaly scan. Medcare, American, Latifa, Belhoul all do. There are also other clinics that do them as well. It depends on the hospital how much they charge, not all clinics or hospitals give you a report most just give it directly to your dr. I've had 3 babies and with all 3 of them the anomaly scan was only 20 minutes, 1 was at Corniche Hospital in AD, 1 was at Latifa Hospital and the other at Medcare.

Both my son and daughter hated nursery they both spent only half a term there. They both loved FS1. I think it's more structured so their personalities were suited better to it. Surprisingly in both my kids classes the children who had been at nursery full time found it much harder to settle in the FS1/FS2 classes then those who hadn't.

Please get a second opinion on any work quoted at any clinic. If I hadn't gone for a second opinion I would have had 1 unneeded root canal and 5 fillings. As it turned out I felt uncomfortable, went to a different clinic, where they said I only needed 1 filling repaired and a good clean. 5 years later and still no new fillings. I'm not the only one out of my group of friends who went through this.

Hi there, There is a great nursery very close to DESS. Infact, there are some kids that have moved on from this nursery to DESS last year and are going next September as well. I am applying to DESS for September 2014 (when he will be old enough to go). The nursery is called Aga Khan Early Learning Centre. It has great teachers and the environment is wonderful. My son goes there right now and we are very happy with the school, what he is learning and the curriculum. Its about a 5 minute drive to DESS. Check out their website if you are interested: www.akelcdubai.org Best of luck to you in finding a great place for your little one(s)!!! Thank you, my son is only 15months old so too young. Do you have any info on fees? TIA edited by starsouthern on 17/10/2012

Starsouthern, that is very strange. It looks like they don't have any clue either as DH has Been in the rental committee 2 weeks ago and was told something totally different. If what you say will be implemented, then the landlords will be again uncontrollable like before the recession. What horrible times! edited by Eli1979 on 12/10/2012 That was what I was told in August, however before the recession people were being kicked out mid contract or with 1 months notice so 12 months notice IMHO is fair. Anyways that's why I said it's best to go to rental committee as they treat each contract differently.

A few weeks later he came back to say he wanted to move in himself and that he was giving me 12 months notice. I replied that this was fine but insisted that a clause was put in the contract referring to his intention to move in and that he couldn't rent it out again for 2 years. Then silence............ Yesterday - 10th (my contract expired on 9th) he called me to say that he had changed his mind and that he wishes to now sell the property and wants to change the terms of the new contract to "non-renewable" and serve us 12 months notice. Yeah right! My question is: If he wants to change the contract from renewable to non-renewable, does he have to give us the 90 days notice as per RERA? Or does his 12 month notice to leave over-ride this requirement? I am trying to see if I can force him to let me sign another renewable contract, despite the 12 months notice. A bit long winded I know, but any help would be greatly appreciated. No he can't change your current contract from renewable to non renewable BUT he can give you a separate letter with 12 months notice to vacate. The law has now changed, if the landlord gives you 12 months notice to vacate they don't have to give a reason anymore. They no longer have to move in or keep it empty for two years if they have given you the 12 months notice. The rent committee told me to always have a clause in my contract saying "this agreement is for 2012-2013 contract renewable according to RERA guidlines for the period of 2013-2014 and 2014-2015". Which means that the landlord can't give you notice to move out until 2014. However in 2015 if we still want to stay we have to negotiate like it's a new tenancy contract and landlord can charge what they like, the RERA calculator no longer applies so if we're not prepared to pay what landlord wants we give keys back. Make sure you have a no penalty clause in there though if you want to move out during that period. Best thing to do is go to the rent committe with your contract they are very helpful. edited by starsouthern on 12/10/2012 edited by starsouthern on 12/10/2012

Personally I would try and hire someone now so you can get used to them and train them the way you want things done. Your nanny will also need more than a couple of weeks to get used to you and your baby's routine especially if you plan on leaving your baby full time with this person. Your baby is the most precious thing, it's not until they are born that you see how hard it is to leave them even for 10 minutes so you can have a shower. We all say our babies aren't going to change us but they do. When I was pregnant with my second we lived in a 2 bed apartment with a small study. The study had no window but I was determined she was going in there. I did it all up in girly colours it looked beautiful. She was born I brought her home and couldn't put her in a room with no window!

Choueifat is the best school in Dubai if you want your kids to get into the best universities I wonder - the best universities where? Anyhow, not according to this (I hold no brief, just quoogled Chouieifat and found the SABIS system, it may well just be disgruntled teachers - but I don't quite understand which curriculum it is?). http://internationalschoolsreview.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=281&sid=e4cd14e65ec1faedbd2818adffc801e9 It's his own system that he created as he believes education is a bit like McDonald all children learn the same and will come out the same.

SM, I looked into this in June and when I went to see RERA they told me that the landlord had to give a minimum of one years notice dated from the END of your CURRENT contract - so say for example, if your current contract runs out on October 31st, the landlord has to give you one years notice from November 1st. Im not sure if this has changed recently but that's what I was informed just a few months ago... Thank you - yes this is what I thought but what if he doesn't sell the place? He is just wanting to get more money? Is he allowed to say " one year notice as I am selling" then not sell and rent it out again.....guess this is one of those situations where you are up **** creek anyway as you are out ..:\: In August they told me that my landlord can give me 12months notice to move out either at the end of current contract or on signing of new contract, the landlord doesn't have to give a reason why they want you out anymore if they've given you 12months notice. So I guess yes he can say coz he's selling but doesn't sell it. They also said he can tell me half way through my contract that he's selling which means if he sells before the end if my contract new owners have to renew me for a year and can give me a non renewable contract, if he doesn't sell then he has to renew my contract again. If he sells it within the new contract the new owners can ask us to move at the end of the contract as we would've had 12 months notice of sale. Not sure if it makes sense as I'm on my iPhone. Best to check directly with the rent committee as rules do change every day here! edited by starsouthern on 08/10/2012

Landlord can put the rent up 5%-20% depending on rental calculator even in the second year as long as they give 90 days notice and it complies with the rental calculator. All cheques stay the same, if you want to pay in more cheques then you are changing the terms so landlord can increase rent if they want to.

That clarifies it - thanks very much. He hasn't put anything in writing yet. If he hasn't sold it by Nov 2013 are we entitled to renew then? ( think much of this is talk as he has wants more rent) edited by spongemonkey on 07/10/2012 It's also best to take in your contract to the rent committee, I was there over the whole summer was told one thing on Sunday then by Tuesday rules had changed as the Rent Committee had made a ruling that was different. Also your landlord can give you 12months notice when you renew this year that he wants you out in 2013 with no reason.

Further to this topic: our Landlord is hoping to sell the villa we are in. ( he says) He has missed the 90 days notice on not renewing our lease ( due Nov) but we have only been in it one year anyway.... Is he allowed to change the contract at this stage to a non renewable one or does that come under the 90 day thing as well? No changes to current contract can be made after the 90 days. So he can't change it to non renewable, however if he has given you notice in writing now that he's selling the property then new owners don't have to renew your contract in 2013. edited by starsouthern on 07/10/2012

No, he can give you the 12 months notice from now. If you renew in Nov 2012 and say he sells the property in May 2013 the new owner has to see out the end of your contract but can give you three months notice to move out if original landlord has already given you 12months notice re the sale in writing. So if landlord gave notice in October 2012 then new owner can say when they buy the property or by August 2013 that they want you out at the end of your contract in Nov 2013.

Hello ladies, we are thinking about moving to Springs 1, very close to the mosque. Can any of you please tell me how loud it really is in the mornings and during the day? I really don't mean to offend anyone but I have a small child so I'm a bit concerned. How long does the call to prayer last? Does it wake you up in the morning? Can you really get used to it and just ignore it after a while? Any comments are much appreciated. Thanks a lot. We lived in Springs 6 and the Mosque opposite there was very loud. It woke us and kids up every day. It was very intrusive. I've lived here for a long time and once in a house that was surrounded by 9 mosques which were beautiful and never intrusive but the Springs 6 one was very disruptive.

I use a company called Churchill. They come to your house and they are fast and efficient. They did a great job for me. I can't remember how much I paid them as was a year ago but I remember that they were really affordable. You can reach them on 800 7076 or [email protected]. My sofa which is a 5 seater and cream! was 250AED they even got the red wine out ooops Just to let everyone know that Churchill's has put their prices up from AED 80 to AED 86 per seat for wet cleaning so a 5 seater is now AED430. I have the guys here now and they said that it's never been AED 250 to clean a 5 seater. Hello i used them last year 2 filipino guys and it most definately cost me 250AED I wouldn't pay 430 or 350 as that is a rip off edited by louisedvs on 04/10/2012 Well they are here now cleaning my sofa set that my daughter threw up on. Lucky you that you paid 250! Me not so lucky so I thought I'd let people know so they have an idea re the new prices. They and the office said 250 is the minimum charge they come out for so they would charge 250 for say a 3 seater. They said it's been aed 80 per seat since they opened and changed to 86 per seat begining of the month. Is your 5 seater 1 sofa with a long cushion? Maybe they classed it as a 3 seater? edited by starsouthern on 04/10/2012
