Why has this not been in the press? As it would affect so many people, surely it would be reported and NOTHING. What about people coming in and out for business? Expats who have a spouse who works away and comes back? Just not viable, I really can't see them doing this. Well, its a tourist visa after all. People can be sponsored by companies, universities or their spouses. And its also partially about the fact that Emiratis can only stay 90 days within 180 days in the Schengen zone. And the press had covered a while ago, about the schengen visa waiver for emiratis...: http://data.consilium.europa.eu/doc/document/ST-7103-2015-INIT/en/pdf See directly at Article 1. So far U.A.E had not implemented that rule, but for them it makes sense. People on tourist visa, are quit difficult to catch for them. Renting a house/apartment is technically not possible, nor is it to get a landline and all that stuff. We all know how much they insist here on Emirates ID for most services now. And everyone on a tourist visa, is something that their system can hardly get hold off. Hence it makes sense for them to force people into legal stays... Thailand is implementing something similar at the moment ( http://pattaya-funtown.com/new-tourist-visa-regulations/ )

Just spoken to a colleague and she says 4 days at that time of year will be good. Plenty of churches to go and see and try and include a Wednesday, as there is a night market, which although only sells Indian handicrafts, is definitely worth it for the experience. In my opinion the Saturday Night Market is much better, also a good place to eat something will roaming around. Having that said, not sure this is going to be the case in the middle of the monsoon.

First question would be, what are you looking for? Goa is quite nice, however the water quality has decreased a lot in recent years. So even in the beaches further off, you will find garbage swimming in the ocean or dead fish. It is not as bad as cities like Bombay, but still miles away from the clear Dubai beaches. Don't get me wrong its fun, but I would recommend not more than maybe 4 days. I took my parents to Goa earlier this year and it was just for a quick weekend trip, but we managed to cover most of the essentials. A day more would have been okay, but besides that its a rather boring place. However if you look for a vacation to get wasted, then go for it.

Good morning, did anyone of you move to Dubai without having a drivers license? My office is located rather inconveniently and taking a cab all the time seems to get a bit expensive, especially since I live quite far ( taxi, metro, taxi..) away from work, due to a better environment. I have made up my mind and will finally start on getting a drivers license. I never had one in my home country, and have zero driving experience. A lot of the driving institutes offer V.I.P. classes, which seem to cost a lot more, but things seem to go much quicker. What do you guys think how long will it take me to get my drivers license with VIP classes? So far I am targeting to get things done within 3 months, however I have read some reports online which state it is possible to complete everything within one week. That does sound a bit insane to me! Did any of you, or your kids, learn how to drive here? How long did it take you to complete these 40 classes, + theory,..? Since I will be working, I feel that the pressure is obviously a bit more. I am considering to take a few days off in between to get things done quicker. Any advice or elaboration of your experiences shall be appreciated. (Oh, and I will probably go for Emirates Driving Institute??)

It looks quite nice. Anyone having an opinion on this one? Especially with the Blue Water Island being build nearby? ? Though it still seems far away.. Any negative words about it?

Are all the apartments without white goods / oven / fridge? Online the pics appear like there is nothing in any of the apartments. . - not keen on buying everything new. edited by stary on 12/06/2014

You guys all seem to be quite happy there. Glad to hear that! I've read on some other page that Executive Towers are within walking distance to the metro station. On Google Maps however it does look rather far, even with the closest towers. Can anyone comment on that?

Keep in mind that in DIFC the rent restictions do not apply, hence a landlord can increase the rent by as much as he likes

Thanks so much for your replies :-))!! I am amazed by how fast I got so much more information!! Dangerous Blonde, thanks for the heads up regarding The Lofts. Hopefully this was just an issue, because they towers were still new when you lived there. Maybe others can comment on, whether or not things have become better there in regards of quality. I will cross Standpoint off my list, if there is a huge construction site coming up. Clarens was already at the end of my list, and purpleb33 has really helped me with that hint to really stay away from that one. Burj Views is off my list, as I have read that its not even possible to open the windows at all. At 8 Boulevard Walk and 29 Boulevard, is the chiller fee included/free (for the latter) ? I am a bit worried, as it seems to be that the pool is right in front of the balconies ( noise levels???) I will also have a closer look at South Ridge :-) Thanks again for the help, it is much appreciated. You all are wonderful people
