To answer your question - no I don't send my parents money every month, but if they needed it, I most certainly would. In terms of learning financial management, I'm not sure where you could go to learn that, but I would start by setting a budget, discussing your financial goals and be careful about your spending for a few months and see how things go. This will give you a realistic idea of what you can afford to give your family and what you need to save for your long term goals. There are plenty of online budget tools that may be helpful.

Oh no - so sad. Things didn't look good for him from the start. So young. Sad for his family and friends and the wider cricket community. I also feel for the young bowler - a heavy burden to carry. I hope he is supported by Cricket Australia to get through this difficult time.

yes and with that we are considering either the philipnes or usa to move to ..dubai is too expensive What an odd choice - PP or the States! Two very different worlds on the table there. [b'>Have I missed something? Is something supposed to be happening next year that will change something?[/b'> I have the same question! There was also reference to 'changes in 2015' in a real estate post yesterday.

It may sound harsh but I have little sympathy for any woman - no matter what kind of psychosis she may have or how little support is given - to purposefully murder a defenceless little human. I *could* - maybe - bring myself to understand a teen who fell pregnant and did something like this - some misguided young people take greater risks and dont think of safety or long term consequences. But this is a 30 year old woman. Doesnt part of growing up mean you do the right thing under the circumstances no matter how hard? How is it ok to kill someone else just because you have mental health issues or no help? Harder than admitting to yourself or someone else that you cant do this, here you take this baby because I am not the right person to look after it. How hard is that for a 30 year old to do? The thought of sympathy and talk of support for such vile people makes me angry. What bit of "mental health issues" do you not understand? The bit where she is mad enough to kill someone else but not herself. Murder is murder and it's as simple as that. Especially in the case of this woman who obviously has abondoned her child post birth with no thought to place him in care as a first option. This is probably going to be wildly unpopular but when it comes to crimes against children women get away with murder, so to speak. [b'>And the umbrella of mental health issues is a convenient escape route for some who are not insane but just plain evil[/b'>. If a man were to do this, even if he had psychological problems, public reaction would be very different. Women keep banging on about equality but when it comes to crimes against children they expect to be understood and sympathized with. If you have killed someone be man enough to accept equality in consequences. It's far more likely that there are legitimate mental health issues rather than her being 'pure evil'. I think the research about criminality and criminal behaviour would even point to mental health being the issue here. Also to add - a few Australian politicians are calling for 'safe places' to leave babies. Sad it's too late in this case.

When someone says "good job" instead of "well done". Makes my toes curl! We say good job in the US all the time but what about the Australian, "Good on ya!" Absolutely hate it. Good on me? What on earth does it mean??? I am lost for words - "good on ya" makes absolutely no sense - but I've never noticed!

Having a shared budget with the goal of managing the family finances towards agreed upon goals is not the same as being given an allowance. If you feel you are short at the end of the month, but aren't feeling like the sacrifices are worth it in terms of meeting your financial goals then I think your husband is either a) genuinely unaware or b) a bit cheeky.

I'm with Guinness - the problem isn't how much you are getting. In my mind, the problem is that he gives you an allowance. My husband and I just share an account. I'm a stay at home mum, I'm away from my family and I'm out and about trying to make new friends. We certainly discuss large purchases, and I would never spend large sums without consulting him, but I dare him to comment on my day to day expenditure..... Sometimes he'll throw in the odd "how much did that cost?" but he knows better than to make any further comment after that! ;)

I'm a stay at home mum so I'm in the same boat! It's like walking on eggshells the whole time. They keep saying they just want to spend time with the baby, but 3 weeks in our apartment is going to be torture - that being said, I refuse to be their tour guide. Maybe a NOL card and a list of suggestions might save me.

Thanks ladies I have one of those TV, PC and Phone DU Home packages, no free wifi in this area (Marina/JBR). Beebers, I don't have Etisalat, but did have a quick look at DU (since you mentioned your package) and have just seen that a data bundle is 20Dirhams per month for upto 40MB and 50Dirhams for 100MB. Maybe I can just buy a 20 Dirham top up card and put the credit on as Data rather than more time. Is that what you do with Etisalat. Does 40MB go far? I don't use my phone for any social networking or accessing internet, I don't have FB or anything like that. I am a bit behind the times really ;) Just need it to text a few family members and receive some photos. Starbucks and Costa have free wifi. Just ask them for a card and you can log onto their network. Also if I join a group on whatsapp and there are a few chat messages coming through for mum meetups, does that mean that the chats won't come to me until I go to a wifi area (like Starbucks etc). If you change the settings as recommended below - I believe so.

Whatsapp info for dummies required please :) So I put whatsapp on my phone to receive some photos from the England, but there's no wifi connection here and when my family sent me photos it drained all my credit (around 30 Dirhams worth). For those that use it, do you buy a seperate data package per month (or pay as you go data)? or do you keep the wifi on all the time. Should I turn off the mobile data on the phone when using it?. My phones not big enough to access internet, just a cheapo one really, and I don't use it enough to want to pay a monthly internet charge. I thought Whatsapp was free, what am I doing wrong? edited by Alismum on 27/10/2014 It's free if you are connected to WIFI - so if you're connecting to your network at home, you are 'paying' for it, through your internet connection. Of course, if you connect to a free network then it is free. The fact that people say these messaging apps are 'free' simply means you aren't paying for an international text message which would be costly.

I am sorry this has happened to you. Maybe we will be seeing a lot more of you on here. I think everyone has already offered some wonderful advice. The last line of your post struck me, and then Daza's post reminded me of my own pregnancy experience. I was so very unwell. It was horrible, for my whole pregnancy and, like you, I never thought I would feel normal again. As Daza said, the relief, when it comes, will be so sweet. It's probably very difficult for you because you are right at the beginning of your journey, but from those who have made it to the end of their respective trials trust us - the proverbial weight will come off and the sun will be a little bit brighter when the day comes.

You asked for some opinions, so here goes. I hope that it collapses. It was never a good idea... Why do you say that? In very simple terms, because I know nothing about economics, Europe was much better for me when each country had their own currency. I used to live in France and my money went a long way when changing from dollar to franc. I also know many Germans who were much happier spending marks. They felt that things were cheaper in mark. They probably were, but things won't magically become cheaper if the Eurozone were to collapse.

Show your daughter this thread! Must be plenty of kids being told 'no you can't go'. I have spent many years working with teenagers and I need to say - it's a totally different world out there. Comparing your own experiences as a teenager with what kids are dealing with today is like apples and oranges. I'm sure many people would be horrified to learn about what [b'>some[/b'> kids get up to, and sometimes at a very young age. Whether it be the content of their conversations, their actions, well..... we're not in Kansas anymore. I've 'overheard' conversations about parties and my heart sinks. They're too young to be dealing with the issues they are facing. Their brains aren't even nearly developed enough to comprehend consequences in great detail. I know it's different here, but I always taught my students one very important rule: CALL. Don't worry about getting in trouble, don't worry about the police, if you need a parent - CALL. If you need an ambulance - CALL. If you don't know what to do - CALL. Take the burden of life changing consequences off your shoulders - get an adult there ASAP. CALL.

The police won't do anything. As said below, it's part of their MO to use social media in this way. Report and tidy up your profile settings. Honestly, I wouldn't think they've targeted you specifically. It's scary for sure, however it's just a random attempt I should think. They probably aren't using their real identities either. The suggestion to report to the FBI was a good one I thought.

I think it is a cultural thing, I spent many years in Colombia and they dont queue and no one gets upset, they just all so seem know who goes next etc but like us British we love to form queues even when there is no need we all just stand behind in a line....its amazing the difference with something like this and how some cultures like order and are quite pedantic about it.... Yes, it was like this in Mexico, a free-for-all. :) Yet, I noticed the elderly were given respect and special regard, if there was some semblance of a queue. Regarding the metro: Some expats come from countries where getting on the train is a fight to death with no regard for those trying to exit, and packing in like sardines is totally normal. While some expats adopt the "when in Rome" attitude, plenty of people take their habits and culture with them and have no intention of trying to adapt to those around them. What I can't understand is the complete lack of awareness of surroundings in, for example, MOE on a somewhat busy day. Do people not realize they are basically walking road blocks? Are they in a different dimension? [b'>I feel sometimes, like I am the only person trying to get out of other people's way. One day, I wondered what would happen if I didn't move. omg....was like the shoulder-checking Olympics.[/b'> In what culture is this normal? Even in tourist ridden areas with self consumed people--places like Las Vegas, Disneyland--never experience so many people just wandering without a care. This made me laugh! I have the same conversation with myself all the time! "What would happen if I didn't get out of the way?" Meanwhile, I just continue to do the "Hot Shoe Shuffle" dodging from left to right. My poor LO swaying away in her pram.

Personally, I hate it but my children's school has asked that each child has an Ipad. I resisted at the beginning of the school year and did not buy them each an Ipad until I realized that my children became "the ones without an Ipad"... It is very difficult in the classroom when some children have them and other's don't. There is plenty of research to show that iPads don't improve student results. I also think children are perfectly capable of learning all they need to know about the latest technology in their 'technology' subjects.

dear mrsb, since it seems to me most teachers have your views, and mothers also (that this trend is detrimental generally to the kid), why is education going down this road? I have no idea why education is following this path. It seems to be a global trend. I often feel the world is changing too fast and I am now too old and it is all passing me by. I strongly support the communicative, activity-based teaching methodology, which promotes problem solving and critical thinking skills, however, there is still a strong argument for memorising the basics - times tables, etc. and I do believe there is a place for the traditional rote learning / memorisation in the grand scheme. edited by mrsb. on 20/09/2014 My sister lives minutes from Apple and Google and her children go to school there. I can tell you that they don't use Ipads in class at all or even for homework. They actually still have textbooks. Ipads are a Dubai thing - less expensive for the school, less work for the teachers but less result for the kids. iPads aren't a Dubai thing. Widely used in primary and high schools in Australia. I wouldn't say they're less work for teachers, but I agree that they don't necessarily produce results for kids. Technology for the sake of technology - doesn't always equal good outcomes. edited by Stix on 20/10/2014
