Hi ladies, I'm an Aussie with an 8 month old. Have been looking at the ANZA website. australiajudy - do you mind posting the link to the fb page. I can't find it! You might also like to try https://www.facebook.com/australianmumsindubai There aren't many people on the page, but I believe they are trying to organise a meet up and generate some more interest in the group. Congratulations to you on your new baby and to CrepeSuzette on your pregnancy! edited by Stix on 19/10/2014

Agree with mumcurious. Cherpi, in practical terms I seriously suggest consulting a lawyer. Even if you go no further at least you know where you stand legally. [b'>I also suggest telling a family member what's going on if you haven't already.[/b'> You've nothing to be ashamed of and sometimes having someone in "real life" know what's going on can be a huge weight off your shoulders, not to mention that you will probably get valuable support from them. I think this is a VERY good idea Cherpie. If your husband took steps to isolate you from family/friends it would be important for someone (who has some idea of what's going on) to be keeping in regular contact with you just to make sure everything is okay.

I'm talking about bathrooms where there is no toilet paper or a towel or a tissue box in sight! I know that men use their wizars to dry, but what about women? Anon - what do you think you would do? Seriously its not rocket science - how woudl you try your backside if no towels or paper??? On my pants? With my sleeve? By waving my backside vigorously back and forth??? And now we know how the twerk came about!!

I subscribe to the theory that 'hot is hot'. Is there much of a difference between 41 and 43? Once it's hot; it's hot. Yep I agree. You just get used to being indoors over the summer, or adapting your lifestyle to do summer type things like beach at night instead of daytime. It doesn't really matter once it is over 40, it's too hot to do anything! Would you live here if it were over 40 all the time? There will still be 'seasons' so to speak. The world would need to heat up a lot for it to be 40+ all the time. To answer the question, probably. Wouldn't be much fun, but we aren't here for the weather.

If you know what is or the responsibility of these positions, I will appreciate it very much: Deputy Manager - [b'>no idea[/b'> KG Coordinator - [b'>probably responsible for curriculum planning in KG across classes[/b'> Dean of Students - [b'>responsible for organisation of student body, behaviour/pastoral matters etc[/b'> Deputy Head of Junior School - [b'> 2IC to Head of Junior School[/b'> Head of Junior School - [b'>like a Principal for the younger grades, but still under the direction of the Principal.[/b'> Principal Another thing: do you think a school should have all these posts? if so, whom have authority over whom? Thanks. That's a brief overview based on the places I've worked.

As for the responsibilities, well that could differ from school to school depending on the organisation of the place. Principal would have ultimate authority. Does it matter how many post as long as everyone knows their role? Are you having an issue and you don't know who to approach?

I spent whole last weekend out in the sun, but still look extremely white, like a sick ghost. Just think how lucky you are and enjoy your beautiful dark tan ;) It will fade away, it is not forever. Yuck, suntans give you wrinkles! and you would be lucky if wrinkles were your biggest problem! edited by Stix on 11/10/2014 Come on guys, you need vitamin d. You gotta see my skin, and my mother's skin too. We both love the sun and both have perfect skin, looking younger than our age. :) Some people can't absorb vitamin D from the sun no matter how long they sit out there! Everyone can make their own choices for their bodies, but in my mind, tanning is akin to smoking.

It is tricky - no doubt about it, but I'm sure it's well within your capabilities. The longer you put it off the harder it will be. You would be amazed how many friendly smiles you get at the coffee shop from other mums with prams. You will feel better once you get out and about.

Sometimes entry requirements change once students submit their applications. If demand for a course is high, entry requirements can change.

I can't speak from experience with my own children. However my cousin has just finished university in Australia and she finished high school in the UK. She had no issues. I am a high school teacher and in my experience, if a child is going to do well at university, they will. Success or failure at university will probably have little to do with the curriculum of their high school. Everyone is taught differently, and lecturers/tutors are all different. Each school at the university will be different. The student's motivation, drive to succeed, application, resilience etc will be far more relevant.

TBH - in primary, I wouldn't worry too much about the difference. It's more critical in secondary. I would just find a nice primary school that you are happy with. If you are super passionate about IB, you can make that choice in secondary.

They're quite different, particularly in terms of assessment. How old is DS? IB is not as common in Australia as it is here.

I have - I had no problems. Although they did courier my order in two lots, which meant I had to pay delivery twice. They also held my second order as they were waiting for a supplier. Turned out the supplier didn't have the item I was waiting on, but I got in contact with souq.com, they responded quickly via email, canceled that item and sent the rest. Credit card refunded no problem.

No, I don't think there is a need for a tutorial. I think the mystery in subject lines can be fun and, to be honest, you never know where a topic will lead so it's often worth the 'click'. Frankly - starting a topic about boring subject lines is quite boring in itself? No?

I would recommend you travel North to South in Vietnam. South is a lot more relaxed and a nice way to finish your holiday. We did an overnight boat tour of Halong Bay which was a highlight. We spent, I think, 3 nights in Siem Reap. Too long for us. We aren't really 'temple' people, so one day sightseeing there was enough for us. Depending on your situation, and how independent you are/kids/etc, it's very easy to book day trips in country and so cheap. There are two ways to do Vietnam - 'cheap and dirty' (backpacker style) or 'higher end'. Both loads of fun!

That's my life every day in this place! This is my second stint here and I have tried to 'go gently' this time around. Doesn't change the fact that getting things done is a pain, but at least I don't get my blood pressure up. You are right about expectations. Keep them low, then *sometimes* you are pleasantly surprised!

Very sorry this has happened to you. I can't even imagine the shock you must have felt at the time, and most certainly now. I feel that if he was remorseful and willing to own up to his behaviour, he would have dropped his head and confessed. Opening with (elaborate?) stories about blackmail and denial doesn't really start things off on the right foot if you/he/both of you are hoping to move forward. As for your actual question - it's probably too soon to know if you will get over it. For now you just have to work out whether you want to try to or not.

I haven't worked since December last year - as I said, I know I may not always 'love' being at home, but for now, going really well. I took leave before my baby was born. Have since made the decision not to return. Motherhood changed me in a way I never would have expected. I will say, that I am certainly not a master housekeeper. I am rubbish at cleaning and some days, we still need to order in for dinner. My husband understands that my job is to care for our daughter and as long as we're both still alive at the end of the day we call it a win ;) Some days can be tedious if that's what you're worried about. I've just made sure I created a new schedule. Get out of the house, take LO to classes/lessons/park/pool, meet a friend for coffee. Do you already have kids or are you expecting one?

I loved my career. I was professionally satisfied and enjoyed going to work each day. I thought I would miss it and wouldn't be able to wait to get back to work. As it turned out, for me it was a case of 'you don't know what you don't know'. I didn't realise how much I would enjoy being home with my daughter. Work is the last thing on my mind. Don't miss it one bit! I realise I may not always feel this way and might want to return in the future, but I'm very happy for now.

Hi, Sorry I have no experience with this doctor. However, I would be wary of people who offer free consultations. If they had a decent reputation why would they need to do this? In addition, ask yourself if you want to be treated by someone who brushed off your questions, seemed rushed, and was cheap? Just my two cents.

I agree. Don't be THAT parent. Go softly with teachers to start with. You are both on the same team at the end of the day and want the best outcome for your child. Have a conversation with her to see what the issue is with your child not listening, find out what has been done, and what you can do to help. You catch more flies with honey. She looks after your child for a large portion of the day and you don't want to go in and demand a class change until you can say you have exhausted all your other options. Any Principal worth their salt will support their teachers and most likely refuse your request.

Australia is moving towards a national curriculum, and already has one to Year 10 in English, Maths, Science and History. As an Australian secondary teacher I can say that I missed out on a job at a British curriculum school here, which I was initially offered (and signed a contract for!) because they 'found someone who would do the job for less'. Should candidates for a teaching position be selected on the basis of who will work for less? Sad that schools are run like a business. That being said, this is my second stint in Dubai and when I returned home last time and started working in an exceptional public school a gorgeous little girl moved into my class as her family had just moved back to Oz from Dubai. Academically, she was exceptional.

Go out! Go out! Go out! It will feel overwhelming on the day, but it's the best time to get out and about with them. Once you get there you will be fine. It only gets harder as they get older.
