I only wish there was a Nakheel official or someone who could give us some answers last night. People were just left stranded, a young lady in our building was out with her dog and shaking like a leaf. May I add, DH slept through the entire episode. :o I tried waking him up but he didn't think it was worth waking up for. He just took out soaking wet carpets from the car. DOes anyone know what's the best way to have your car dry? It being the peak of summer should help, I guess.

We still don't have a clue about what's actually going on. The flooding happened around 10 or something but I noticed there was something amiss only around 1 in the morning when the explosion in the dewa plant neat the Battuta china court woke us up. All this was around the Gardens. Some say there was a fire near DG too, but we really don't know. Hope no one's hurt.

Di, I live here and there's still quite a bit of water. The mall apparently had to close down last night due to an electric short circuit. Would be best to wait it out a bit.

Don't know if she is into trinkets and such, but I found this on Etsy sometime back and thought it was sweet. I can't open the Etsy link from work, but it is pictured here. http://stovetopdancing.blogspot.ae/2012/12/a-few-things-to-love-despite-hate.html

I get loads of funky ones as gifts from a shop in MOE. Can't remember the name, but it's in the alley next to Benetton and right beside the exit escalators of Toy Store. WIll try and get you the name next time I go, but I hardly ever go to malls these days with my moody toddler.

In Geant, don't look at the tea aisle. You'll find it in the organic/health food section, a brand called Yogi.

Thanks ladies, this is helping. Though I must admit, adulthood is turning out to be a pain with all these decisions to make :o I mean, seems like yesterday that I was in school 15 years back and now I have to decide about sending my kids to school. Ugh. The reason we are not choosing IB yet is because a) What if our kids turn out to be the geeky IIT/AIIMS types who want to study that way (though that will mean they have none of my genes). b) We do plan to go back at some point, and I know there are lots of IB options in India now, but I don't know if we'll really be able to afford it back home? c) We can move them from ICSE/CBSE to IB later if we see they are not thriving, but I'm pretty sure the other way round will be a mess Gem1971, About you asking when is a good time to switch, here is my opinion as an expat child and now an expat parent. I grew up in Muscat, went to an Indian CBSE school. Some of my classmates who were sure of going to universities abroad for undergrad moved to ABA and other IB/BC schools in the 8th grade. All of them were thriving and were mostly ahead of their class. At that age they were mostly disturbed about making new friends, but from the perspective of studies, they were well placed. That being said, our school in Muscat was pretty great. Very good teachers at our time, we were a Round Square school so plenty of exchange programmes at other RS schools abroad in Australia, Canada and Scotland, summer camps at really nice boarding schools in India and lots of extra-cirricular. Basically, lots of opportunities for kids.

Looking for a simple. elegant chiffon lehenga in pastels. No fancy wedding type thingy. Have a function coming up in a few months and would like to wear a lehenga instead of a saree this time. Has anyone shopped for one here? I know I'll find it 'somewhere' in Meena Bazaar, but would love specific recommendations. TIA

Thanks Lynett! I'm with Dubai Driving too. My centre has told me to get there early and inform the guy who takes the papers about my situation. It's a weekday, so there might not be too much of a rush and they might agree.

Since we are on this topic of 2 year olds, can someone please give me tips on teaching mine to share? She goes to nursery for 3 hours a day, and I've spoken to her teacher who says that she is generally quite friendly. However, when we have guests, she gets upset when the kids play with her toys. She isn't violent (thankfully) but I don't understand why she isn't comfortable sharing.

BID, sorry you're going through this. It's such a hassle to find a good maid here. As someone who is going through the process of finding a maid, I'd like to reinforce Alice's point too. Please don't give unhelpful maids a reference. It can really help another family from going through the same experience.

Hi Every one, I am planning to deliver in wel care.how abt junki gopalan and she is a malayali or not..I am from kerala.how abt dr susheela Dr Janaki is excellent, though not overtly warm. One of the best things I like about her is the fact that she is quick to reply to emails, however frivolous the query may seem. I had my first with her and will also have my second with her. I'm not sure, but I think she is Tamilian.

Hi Ladies!! I was in the september group but decided to make a switch to October as my due date is october 13th, I'm just hoping i'll deliver by 38-39 weeks (wishful thinking much?) lol I'm 18 1/2 weeks, this pregnancy has been different than my first. I feel better than I did in my 1st trimester, but the nausea is not completely gone :( and for some reason the fatigue is hitting me now *sigh*. My bump looks massive!!!! A Lady in the elevator asked me yesterday if I was 8 months....ughh I was so embarrassed. I tend to carry really low, and i'm super short- so there isn't much room for baby to grow except down and outwards lol Trying to get some walking in, and some pre-natal pilates in as much as I can, but lately have pubic dysfunction pain. Has anyone else had this? I had this with my son before as well, but only after 37 weeks. I seem to have it now much much earlier and it's quite painful :( Thinking of seeing a chiropractor to get this sorted. I don't know how I'll make it to 9 months with this pain, along with the back aches :( I have no choice but to get into maternity clothes. I avoided it as much as I could- but now can't understand why i even tortured myself trying to squeeze into old clothes. I ordered mine online from Isabella Oliver and Blush and Bloom. No complaints and I can even see myself wearing them after I deliver while I try to get my baby pounds down! The quality is really great and stylish too! I had terrible SPD with my first around 6 months. A few sessions with the chiropractor really helped. Didn't make the pain go away but reduced it to being bearable. till hurt like h*ll though!

For the longest time, my daughter loved Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes. Lots of cherubic baby faces to look at and I think a rhyming book sort of thrills little ears to no end. She also likes a book called Not me. Got both of them at Kinokuniya

DC2DXB, do you mean a guy dressed up as Tinky Winky/Lala/Dipsy/Po and interacting with kids? I think you can contact an event company or something who could do it. If you want the toys, ELC has them. AED 99 each. Also, sorry I don't mean to hijack, but can you tell me where you found Barney?

Aww cymraes :) My parents had me when they were 40+ (mum was 40, dad 43 I think) and my sister and I are 11 years apart, but they loved it because they thought I kept them young :) I used to feel bad that my Dad was still paying for college when he was 60, but he had no qualms. Though my sister and I weren't very close when I was younger, now we are! And I cannot imagine life without a sibling. Sometimes there are things I can't share with DH or my parents, but I can tell my sister. So for all you know, your DH and teenager might just like the suggestion :) Just my POV.

I don't think it's Brody. And I really hope it's not Quinn, because he's the one who decided Brody can go live. So I'm guessing the next season will be about Carrie clearing Brody's name, only to discover.... :D My only problem with the series that end too soon is that by next September, I'd have forgotten half of the events. Also, I thought this episode was a drag in the beginning, till the big blast, but I guess that's what they were playing at.

The Saray Spa at the Marriott in Marina has a special Christmas treatment for AED 325. Haven't been myself but have heard good things about it from a few friends. Think it included a scrub, wrap, facial and massage. Am I the only one trying to understand why Brody was present when Walden died? I mean, he was just asked to get the serial number of the pacemaker, not stand and watch him die and give him a piece of his mind. I'm also curious to see how Dana and Finn's accident story is going to weave in with the main plot. I'm so addicted :(

Can anyone recommend a good South Indian restaurant in New Dubai please (serving dosas, idli etc..) Plenty. Sarvana Bhojanshala and Appakadai in both Discovery Gardens and Marina. Also, Green Leaves for lovely idlis and other vegetarian fare in DC, and its non-vegetarian cousin Green Chillies for things like South Indian fish curries, crab masala, appams etc..

I had severe SPD, so much that at one point in time I couldn't walk with so much pain. However, I did go see a chiropracter and a few sessions of that did help. The pain didn't go until after the birth, but it was much, much more bearable.

Susan, I don't know if this will help or answer any of your questions, but here's my two cents. Try making her nap while lying down with her and patting, instead of holding her in your arms. It will take a few days for her to get it, but she will and once that happens, she may sleep more than just a cycle, depending on how tired she is. Don't worry about feeding as long as she is gaining weight. Give her lots of healthy fingerfoods to pick from and eat herself, and she will eat if she is hungry. Try blending fruits with her milk for a milkshake so that she is introduced to more flavours. Also, try and eat together. She might grab food from yours and your husband's plates, and want to eat like you do. If co-sleeping is working for you, don't change it now till she is more at ease with her new environment. Our daughter used to sleep in her crib, in her room till she was 11 months old. She then joined nursery and caught all the bugs, and she slept with us a few nights. We all slept better, and we didn't need to make a lot of changes to that arrangement when we were travelling (and we travelled A LOT), so that is the way it's been for now. We're planning a no. 2 sometime soon, so will have to move her back to her room evetually but by then hopefully she'll be talking and expressing herself. Not being able to make us understand what they are feeling can be very frustating for these little ones. And once she starts walking and running like an Olympian, she will sleep better anyway. Can't help you on the hair bit, my daughter holds on to my lips (yeah, I know...yuck) but it gives her immediate relief for whatever reason. Hope you guys are back on track soon :)
