Digging up this old thread to ask, is the access to the metro link from the mall open in the morning? Dh starts work in Emaar Square soon and has not been allotted a parking space. He went over yesterday and a mall security guard said that the mall opens only at 10 so access to the metro is unavailable till then.

It can take longer depending on which state you are in. But, there is also a 7-day tatkal service is many metros.

Thanks everyone. Sorry for the late reply but I'm sort of... I don't even know what the word would be... zombie-ish, maybe? It feels weird. I've never felt like this before. I start crying for no apparent reason, hate the prospect of meeting friends, eat my weight in chocolate (like THAT'S going to help) and am generally so lost. I don't really know if its PND or the fact that we are going through a rough path in general (too many deaths the last year in my family, DH very stressed with office politics, DD going through her terrible two's), but I do think that the things have gotten worse postpartum. We are going home for 3 weeks on Friday and I have arranged to see a counsellor there but if things don't go well then I will use some of the contacts mentioned here once I'm back. Does one just snap out of PND one fine day when the hormones have finally settled? I certainly hope so. Again, thank you so much for the kind words. TDB, I know you were busy with the wedding and honeymoon but if you do have time, drop me a line at stovetopdancingatgmaildotcom xx

I think I vaguely remember you saying that you had PND after your daughter was born. Could you tell me who you saw for it or if you could recommend a counsellor/therapist? TIA

I miss those World Cup cricket conversations with you and Waxmuch when DD was due :) God, how time flies. Where is WM... I miss her! BubblingCreek, yes that's the first thing that struck us when the doc said that EDD was 9th of Oct. As a Lennon fan, it made me very, very happy :)

Lush and Lakeland products :) I bring back a lot of baking ingredients like Valrhona cocoa etc. I also find that clothes are a lot cheaper and there's so much more to choose from.

I just don't get it....where do these young kids get these ideas from? I mean, there's so much to look forward to at 19... college, friends, hanging out, taking charge as an adult... where do they get these ideas from? It's sad, disgusting and vile all at the same time.

Ha ha, you're lucky you can wear a suit to a wedding. In my husband's very traditional marwari family, if I wear anything but a saree or a ghaghra that weighs at least 15 kilos to a family wedding, they'll be mortified. I have to be glad there are no cousins getting married for a couple of years at least, so hopefully they will lighten a bit by then.

Sorry, I don't have much advice but just wanted to tell you that I got loads too. It usually isn't a problem because my husband and I are okay with it, but when I wear a saree back at my in-laws place in India, every single person passes a comment. When my own sis-in-law saw them the first time, she was mortified and said "YUCK!" :o I know it's depressing when people keep talking about it, but just try not to care. They will lighten over time.

Hi AJ You are right, I have been blogging very rarely. Last year we saw a huge number of deaths, mainly in my family but also among some friends, and I was just devastated. Also, my toddler very rarely lets me photograph and document recipes in peace, and I was too busy looking after her. However, I have just posted a couple of days back about finding balance as a mum to young kids, hoping that there will be some who would be willing to share their experiences through the comments. I think I'm going to write a little more about mommy-related topics than food for a while. However, thanks for asking. Here's the link to my blog: stovetopdancing.blogspot.com

Oh no, really? Maybe then I should just get curtains made out of the black out material only? (There are two poles so I can do those on the outer pole and let the current black ones stay on the inside) The ones I have are thick black and they worked wonderfully in our very badly lit old apartment, but in the new one there's tons of natural light (which we love at all times except 6 AM) and is waking up my daughter. I will ask my laundry guy once though. He usually tends to be over-helpful and finds a way around everything :) How's your villa hunting going?

This age gap thing is scaring me. Mine will have 2.5 years between them, and I was really, really sure that my daughter would have started talking by now. Surprise, surprise, she hasn't! I mean, not in complete sentences. So even though she makes herself understood (still prefers using actions a lot) through single words, sometimes she just cant tell us what she wants to. It's going to be a crazy first few months :( Had I not had a c sec with DD, I'd have planned the 2nd much earlier. I think it's easier having two babies than one baby and one cranky toddler. TDB, are you moving to Furjan soon? Our friends bought a 3 bhk townhouse there, and it's lovely. Have fun :)

In terms of nationality preference, we needed someone fluent in Hindi because I don't want my MIL to struggle to communicate with her when she visits. So we had to narrow it down to Nepali or Indian. We found a nice Nepali lady, and after a few initial struggles, I think we are now starting to understand each other's ways.

Yes, I did the squatting and scrubbing with DD, but at the end it didn't help much anyway. Am just squatting these days, really hope SOMETHING works. I do feel these sharp twinges during Braxton Hicks. I had a lot of BH with DD, but don't really remember any pain. Just a lot of discomfort. Or maybe my severe SPD pain overshadowed it.

Thanks Kiwi. So, so bummed that they can't wait for a week or 10 days after the due date; but I guess baby's health comes first. I thought taking EPO just ripens the cervix but doesn't really induce unless you take it vaginally? I was planning to take a few oral tabs because apparently it also helps with diabetes. I'm not in favour of inducing however natural the ways are, only because I think that it's not right to rush baby out. But I just want to help him get into a good position so that he might start moving things at his own pace :) Don't know if I'm making sense? BTW, walking is turning out to be painful in the pelvic area. I walked for a bit last night, didn't even overdo it, but the pain in the pelvic region was insane. :(

Sorry Mallqueen for stealing your thread, but just wanted to share my news and get some feedback from everyone. at my last check up, the doc saw the size of the baby and said if I don't go into spontaneous labour by my due date, she will not like to wait. This is purely because of the complications and concerns because of my Gestational Diabetes. I trust my doctor completely and I do believe she wants what's best for me and the baby, but I know it will be h**l for my 2.5 year old DD if I can't pick her up after a c sec for a few weeks. This and a quicker recovery were the main reasons I wanted a vbac. My doc has asked me to not give up and walk a lot to help baby get into a natural labor position, but I was wondering if there's anything else that can also help? The Evening Primrose Oil thing? Or squatting like crazy? Or some other age-old tip? TIA

I am a big fan of slings and wraps, so I'd probably get one of that. It's not a thing everyone wants or needs, but it was a lifesaver for me since we travelled with DD a lot. And now with the second, I'm going to be needing it more because I'll want to keep my hands free to hold my 2.5 year old DD or push her around in a stroller.

I know its available on Luxe Little, but I was just wondering if its available in a store here? Though I'm quite in love with it after reading the review, I'd like to try it out before I buy it. I loved babywearing with my first, used a Moby when she was a newborn and a Mei Hip when she was older. This time since i'll have her toddling around with me, I would really like to keep the new baby close and the peanut shell looks like a great buy. Any thoughts?

Thanks ladies, just thought I'd update. We used Rust-oleum paint in black. Quite happy with the way its turned out and the fact that it doesn't give out any fumes or toxic smells. We did leave the room to dry out well for a couple of days before we moved in. Hoping DD has fun with it :)

I delivered my first at Welcare and will go back for my second one too. My doctor was Dr Janaki and she is very good, but I was super-impressed with the team of midwives and after-care. I has a c-section, they helped me the first day with a bath, taught us baby stuff - how to clean baby's poop really well, giving baby a bath etc.. They were very warm and always there when we needed them. Also, as a plus, the food was excellent :)

Sorry to hijack, but just wanted to know from the regular Dubizzlers - if you like random stuff like a single armchair or a cabinet, how do you haul it over to your house? I have liked some stuff on and off on dubizzle, but have never found a moving company who will move just 1 item. Anyone has a regular, friendly mover who helps with moving around the new Dubai area?

Stovetop - Would you mind sharing the quantities of hershey's chocolate and toffee sauce you used in your recipe variation? I'm not a confident cook so have no idea how to play it by ear with a recipe. Also, did you make the toffee sauce or was it store bought? Thanks. I used about 10 chopped up nuggets (the ones with the toffee almonds). Hershey's also do a bag of toffee chips for baking which I think will go great with this, but I was out of those. I randomly drizzled the toffee sauce. I make the sauce at home - I just caramelise some brown sugar, add a tablespoon of butter and then add cream to the mixture. I think the person who discovered that salt makes caramel better is a genius, so I add some sea salt. The sauce is my go-to quickie recipe for ice creams and random treats, but I don't keep the store bought toffee sauce at home because I'm tempted to drizzle it over almost everything. And we all know how much that helps the waistline :o BTW, am I the only one who can't see the post with my version?

Stovetop, are you still looking for a maid? We got our brilliant Nepali houseboy from a lady called Sharmila. She works as a maid here in UAE and has a good network in her community. She's reliable and is recommended on this forum. I got her reference from here only. If you are still looking, I will post her number. Thanks nams, I did speak to Sharmila but she didn't have anyone available locally. We have found a lady and she starts soon with us once her visa is done, let's hope it works out.

Thanks Kiwispiers. My doc is quite pro-VBAC and I really trust her. She isn't warm or over-the-top maternal, but she is clear about what she needs me to do and all that. She's laid out pretty much the same conditions as yours did, spontaneous labour and added that I must keep my Gestational Diabetes in control. If all other factors like the placenta etc. looks fine at 40 weeks, then she'll let me go a week-10 days post due date. She said she won't induce even if I'm overdue because last time I didn't proceed with induction and though this baby might be different, induction apparently increases the risk of rupture. She said the best way to increase chances of a spontaneous labor is a healthy diet and exercise, mainly walking and keeping active, which will come naturally with having a toddler around. I really hope everything goes as planned. I'm already nervous about breastfeeding because last time it was a nightmare. DC, I got the book for A. Rushed to Kinokuniya yesterday because they had just one copy left. :)

Thank you ladies, all these tips mean so much. Sorry I came back late with a reply, thanks to the disastrous flooding situation in Gardens, where I live. Luckily nothing too drastic and no one was hurt, though a bit of water did enter our car :( DC!!!!! Where've you been? I had to get pregnant to get you back on EW :) I had a C Section last time, and though my doc said there are pretty good chances for a VBAC, I don't know how high the odds are. So if I have a c sec again, not seeing A for 4 days in the hospital might drive me insane. If there's a VBAC and therefore just 2 days in the hospital, then not bringing her there sounds like a great option. Thanks for the book recco, will get it asap. Kiwispiers, you had a VBAC in Doha, if I remember correctly? Any tips on increasing chances for a VBAC? The main reason I want a VBAC is because with a c-sec I might not be able to lift my DD for a while, and I think she might miss this. (Or maybe it's me who'll miss it) If and when she comes to the hospital, I will ensure I'm not holding the baby, since that's a top tip I got from most people, and makes complete sense from the POV of a 2 year old, I guess. I think we will get her a scooter as a gift from the baby, because that's what she has been eyeing for the last couple of weeks. edited by stovetop on 21/07/2013
