Not meaning to hijack, but has anyone heard of Kathak classes for adults. I learnt it as a child for a few years till we moved from India to Muscat. Would love to relearn, but maybe not with 5 years olds. :)

For my baby shower, we did a pink and brown theme. Gave away strawberry and chocolate macaroons in heart shaped boxes from Daiso, topped off with. Pink baby sock.

I had a c section with Dr Janaki as well. In the beginning, I was quite concerned about her being very precise and non-maternal (haha I was pretty much a wimp and wanted to hug any doc I saw). But now I'm so glad I chose her. She is nothing short of brilliant. And like I've mentioned a lot of times here, the team of midwives and nurses at Welcare was a blessing after the surgery. I'm not very conscious about my scar, but I do think it's quite light. Good luck to you :)

I think there's a dairy-free creamer called Monarch available in most supermarkets, usually stocked right next to Coffeemate.

I was so touched by the care that the midwives and nurses gave us after my daughter was born at Welcare, including a lot of emotional support for breastfeeding; but the thought of tipping them never came to mind. We bought them a huge cake saying Thank You when we went back for DD's 2 week check up.

Hi DB Do you mean baking supplies in wholesale quantities? I will have to find out for you, if you can give me some time. I'm not that great a decorator so hardly work a lot with icing gels and other decorating stuff. I've seen meringue powder in Lulu very often, but in the small Dr Oetkar tins.

Can I just say that as the day of travel draws closer, my excitement to see my family is turning into sheer nervousness + utter terror + complete distraught! Tempted to get some sleep-inducing cough syrup. Someone tell me it won't be a trip to **** and back :o

Cherry, for 2 teaspoons of PP, I'd use 1/2 teaspoon of each except fenugreek, and I'd just add 1/4 teaspoon of fenugreek. Will not make any drastic changes to the desired flavor.

Panch Phoron is a traditional Bengali spice, rarely used in other parts of India. That's probably why you aren't seeing it with the other regular spices. Adil does carry it, I've bought some. Geant in Ibn Batuta have an Al Adil aisle, you might find it there. It's quite easy to mix yourself since it is almost always used as whole seeds and not powdered. It's an equal mix of mustard, fennel, cumin, fenugreek and nigella seeds. You can cut the quantity of fenugreek seeds if you find it too bitter.

Well SueB, sorry you felt it was harsh. I did say this was not aimed at anyone from EW. And no, it doesn't make me feel "superior" in any way. English is not my first or second language. I do not expect perfect grammar or spelling skills from everyone, but I do however expect that when I do my job right, it isn't refuted with imaginary claims from my native-English speaking client. Didn't realise ranting on EW is not something we do anymore :\:

Oh God, I'm so glad I found this thread. We've been having difficulties with our toddler who is 16 months old. I understand that at times she's just plain frustated because she cannot express herself, but sometimes it just gets to us. She just suddenly bursts into a tantrum and cries till what seems like forever. Generally she is quite good, but we're starting to have one too many of these days and DH and I are beginning to question our parenting skills (or the lack of?). She's too young for a time out, because I've tried to do it with her and she just doesn't get it. She also goes to a nursery playgroup every day for three hours in the afternoon and is very happy and content there, so I don't understand this behavious with us at home? DH and I were talking the other day about how much easier are weekdays are and how much stress the weekends bring :( Edited for my delightfully frightening spellings edited by stovetop on 05/08/2012

How's it going ladies? I have a question - do you repeat the shred after 30 days again, starting from level 1? Or do you just do level 3 a few times a week after you've completed the shred once?

A friend was at MOE yesterday and there was a similar incident in the parking lot. Apparently the Mum forgot car keys inside too, so cops and emergency services were called to help take the child out. I hope the child is okay.

Thank you so much ladies. I'm with J on the table thing too, it annoys the c**p out of me. I'm making a list of all her fave things to take along - blueberries, raisins, crayons, books. Will get some new disposable-ish toys from Daiso. Summertime, thanks for the tips on food. Will make sure I carry enough. I'm wondering about the haul between the flights though. A friend has offered to come see me with her 7 month old, but its the middle of the night so I really don't want her to take the trouble. Also, should I take DD's doll pram for her to push around in the airport? Does anyone think it to be a good idea, if I can keep her away from people's toes? :o

I agree that forgetting kids for too long is absolutely unaccepatable (anyone remembers Chaise, the Russian toddler who was forgotten by his adoptive father for 9 hours?). I mean if there is a change in routine, then please rewire your brain for the day and REMEMBER the most important bits. But then again the sort of grief-stricken guilt that these parents go through is something I cannot begin to imagine.

Thanks Abby, they do look fab. But honestly, I like to drape the saree around and see if it suits me or not. So I don't know if online will work, but that gold saree is soooo tempting. :D Thanks Chewit, the collection at Lulu's is sometimes very traditional. I'm looking for something light. BT, thanks for the suggestion. Can you tell me where exactly in MB this is?

Isn't it just plain depressing to shop here sometimes? I'd had really bad experiences here, especially at one particular store. Once I went to the counter with a dress marked Aed 35 just to check. Turns out it was 235. In the UK, they would be forced to sell it to you at AED 35 but here, this women looked at me like I'm an alien and said "Really? You really think this dress would be for 35 bucks?" ... with that sarcasm meets ridicule meets plain effing condescending look. But then everyone deserves a second chance (you know just in case they're PMSing or having a bad day otherwise), especially when they sell nice clothes. So back I went to this store during the Sales, and there was a bunch of clothes kept aside in a corner with an A4 paper saying "Window Display". So I asked this lady "Is this for sale?" That same condescending look came back and she says "No, it's regular price. You should check the tag." I was like "Yeah, I asked if it was for sale, not if it was on sale." She still didn't get it, but I just never go back to this particular store. edited by stovetop on 04/07/2012

A lot of those freezone licences come with a 'hot desk' that they dont actually expect anyone to use.... I suppose it depends on the business, but say for example one had a freezone licence and was a floating 'home visits' hairdresser, would that work? and OP - as far as I understand you can sell your own hand made products at the Safa market too Or Arte too, I think.

Yeah, I find it so hard to explain to DH that despite there being so many brands here, I have so much trouble finding something :( I do wish there was an Urban Outfitters here, though. I love their stuff, but have failed miserably trying to Shop n Ship because I just can't get the sizes right. Hugs to you Rabiaah. It must be a very tough time for you. I went to Dr Janaki in Welcare for my pregnancy, and if I remember correctly had overhead another patient of hers telling someone that she was in a similar situation as you and was very well guided by Dr J. It might take a while to get an appointment with her and she may seem slightly distant, but I have learnt from experience that she is an excellent doctor. Make sure you have a list of questions ready for her, she answers everything in detail.
