I googled it and saw that it was a deal on Groupon previously (http://www.groupon.ae/deals/national-deal/city-campus-fz/3238219), so I'm sure SOMEONE in dubai does it. Will go look at Daiso first like GM suggested.

Thanks Sky Kitty, that sounds like fun. Though I'd be wanting to spend much more than an hour when you have good food for company :) Any recommendations for more brunch-like places?

Bringing up this thread again. Has anyone eaten good raw oysters anywhere recently? The P2 in Madinat used to do good ones, but sadly they've shut.

Club stretch is opening their second location in marina on the 15th of June also! @ ishehere; btw I don't know if your yogi friends know much about bikram then..... Bikram yoga is a sequence of Hatha postures. The only difference is the heated room, which aids in a deeper stretch and detoxification.... How is that not good for you? I think a lot of Yogis say that when comparing it with traditional Yoga, where it's done in a cool and calm ambience, so as to align your mind with the body. And postures are held for much longer. The longer you hold the postures, the greater the benefits for the back and spine etc. Bikram Yoga is great for weight loss. And of course, it's better than doing no exercise.

Sorry to bring up this thread again, but really need to rant. Was just trying to reason with a friend who posted this on her FB wall. Apparently she thinks its 'imperitive' to create awareness about this. Excuse me? The lady's in jail, the little girl's thankfully in foster care, and what are we making people aware of? And then she went on a weird trip saying "The only thing predictable about life is that its so unpredictable. This can happen to any of us......" All this is after a few of her friends who did not know what this is about clicked on the video, saw the first 3 seconds and were totally horrified and told her so.

Try Dr Janaki or Dr Susheela at Welcare. Dr J is highly skilled and very knowledgeable regarding cysts etc. I used to find her quick and to the point, but realised that was because she has quite a few patients waiting all the time. Also, one thing that I really liked about her was that she'd answer any email query I had in the next hour. Even after the birth, I mailed her about breasfeeding issues and she immediately had the head midwife call and calm me :)

I do hope they get serious about this. I just don't understand why anyone would dress the same way in a mall as they would in a night club or the beach. And really, covering knees and shoulders isn't that hard.

I bought a Kenwood stand mixer 2 years back for AED 800 (or 899, I'm not sure) versus the much more expensive KA, because I didn't know how often I'd bake. However, turns out I bake too often for my BMI's liking and love the Kenwood :) Of course I'd love a KA in my kitchen (who wouldn't?) but for now, the Kenwood is meeting all my expectations. Cake mixes are fab if done at the right speed, frostings turn out well too and I make chapatti dough about 3 times a week which is actually the lifesaver :D

Yes, it is quite sad. This came to light when there was a spate of checks and the police arrested quite a few massage ladies. That's when SUma couldn't provide the correct documents and my friend learnt that the women with her do not have work permits either. Scorpion, giving you a visa copy doesn't make it legal. Most of these women will be on their husband's visa. And as far as I had researched, they and you can be fined very heavily if caught. In my opinion, it isn't worth the risk. Is there another opinion you can think of? I know it's very tough to find massage ladies in this area. My friend decided to travel earlier (she was planning to go anyway after her 6 week check up; she preponed that to when baby was 2 weeks old) to India and stay at her mum's so that she could get the massage etc sorted.

Just a word of caution Manu, I used Suma from Healing Hands because she was the only one I found who was legal. I'd also recommended her several times here. However, I got to know from a friend that her license has expired, therefore making her business illegal. Whoever you choose, make sure they are legal.

Because I started part time work, we started DD at the nursery when she was 11 months in Feb for 3 hours a day. I was also concerned that she wasn't getting to play enough as playgroups in my area were few and far between. Though I do agree with the posters about kids falling ill more often at the nursery, there are pros as well. Now, DD loves the staff and sitters there and all the toys that she doesn't have at home. I'd like to add that from the experience of friends and family, I feel it's easier to put them in when they are younger or to wait till they are a little more independant and can commnicate well. Like mentioned below, 2 is often an age when they're still learning so many new things and are more clingy. Although, every child reacts to social situations differently, so you'll never know what's in store till you try! Good luck :)

Just want to know about some storytime favourites. 11 month old currently loves 10 little fingers and 10 little toes by Mem Fox. She loves turning the pages and looking at the illustrations of all the kids. I bought this lovely book called "Ish". It's about a boy called Ramon who loves to draw but gets disheartened after his older brother makes fun of the drawings. Ramon then sees that his little sister has made a gallery of his crumpled drawings and thinks that all them do look Vase-ish, Cloud-ish...etc. It's a lovely, But I think DD is still too young to understand it. I would love to know about other favorites that your kids have.

I was there for 4 days. The food was fine. The first day they gave jello and soup and stuff like that. After that the menu was pretty extensive. @Lilli34, you can ask for the baby to room in with you. They brought us my baby whenever we asked for her, for as long as I wished.

Hi Giti I gave birth and Welcare. You will need to take NOTHING :) The team of midwives led by Stella are excellent. Everything was provided, including wipes, diapers, pads, etc. I didn't open need to open my hospital bag till the last day when we gave them the clothes that we wanted to take home the baby in. You just might want to take a few breast pads and a tube of lanolin if you are planning to breastfeed. I didn't need those because my milk didn't come in very soon. If you have any more questions about Welcare, feel free to ask. Though I was upset about not having a natural birth, the care I recieved at Welcare was unforgettable. I went back after 2 weeks crying for breastfeeding help, and they were still as wonderful. Best of luck!

Thanks coconnell for the lovely tips. We were thinking of doing just Vienna, but our friends told us that 5 days would be a lot to spend there. So we decided on adding Salzburg (and I'm a huge Sound of Music fan :p). We get to Prague early 9th morning, and head out to Salzburg on the 13th and spend a couple of nights there. !5th we'll be in Vienna and 17th back. @twin_butterfly This was over email. And that's probably just me being overtly touchy ;) A few more questions: I'm thinking if we should take a stroller (ours in the M&P Sola, so I'll definitely have to borrow/rent an umbrella one), or do you think we'll get away with the 2 slings we have? Also, one of the things I really want to do is rent a bicycle with a toddler seat and ride around town. What would be the best place to do this? Apparently the Sound of Music cycle tour doesn't have bikes with toddler seats :(

1 1/2 cups flour 1 teaspoon salt 3/4 teaspoon active dry yeast 1/2 cup lukewarm water, and probably a little more as you try and get the dough together 1 tablespoon olive oil Stir the yeast and salt into the flour in a bowl. Add the water and olive oil, stir the content into a ball. Dump the ball and all scraps onto a floured surface, cover with the bowl for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, spray some oil into the bowl, or use your fingers to oil the sides. Knead the dough for a couple of minutes and then put it back in the oiled bowl. Cover with clingfilm. The dough will rise in 2 hours. After that just deflate it gently, roll it into a ball and then leave it in clingfilm for 20 mins. Ready to use! I love this dough, super simple although a little messy. But if you like thin crust pizza, this is very good.

Someone please give me hope. So DD is 10 months old now. We were at my parents for a couple of weeks, where she slept in her travel cot and me on a mattress right next to her. Her cot was the Samsonite pop up bubble, so between tossing and turning, she'd often land up close to me. Even when she woke up, I'd pick her up sometimes, soothe her and put her down again and then she'd go back to sleep (after tossing, turning, looking around, fiddling with stuff etc, but I didn't have to rock or feed her). Now that we're back, she wakes up screaming and it seems like she's really terrified. We let her cry for a few minutes (like last night when she went back to sleep in 3), but most times she's inconsolable. I've tried soothing her and putting her back in bed, but she just starts howling again. I've tried sitting next to her cot and trying to soothe her by shushing but that makes her angrier and louder. When she's in real deep sleep, we can put her in the cot, otherwise she just keeps waking up. She used to be a fairly good sleeper before the trip. Used to go down between 8:30 and 9 and then sleep straight till 7 - 7: 30. Even if she woke up crying, she'd go settle by herself in 3-4 minutes and go back to sleep. The only one time she kept crying for more than 5 and I went it was when she had a poopy diaper. We had tried an earlier bedtime, but it didn't work for us. Is this a phase? Is she really getting scared of sleeping alone? I cannot bear to see her cry like that, but going in and taking an hour to get her back to sleep is tiring us out :( ETA, how do you manage your sleep routines when you travel? edited by stovetop on 17/01/2012

Stovetop... where did u get Hidesign bags here? I love their designs and very good quality too.... but i could never find them in Dubai. Is it only available via online shopping ? They used to be available at Jashanmal till last year. But I've always bought mine from India. Really convenient (and tempting) that they have tied up with some airports, so I buy them when I fly out :) Love their travel wallets and keychains too.
