Some ppl find solace in Gaviscon for heartburn. I haven't tried it because the smell makes me puke. Yes the heartburn is crazy, just like the stretch marks that are not looking like they'll never stop showing up in more n more places!

I'm so tempted to do that DC! Though my MonicaGeller-[i'>ish[/i'> DH might just freak that everything's not sorted etc and not just the way HE packed it...lol. I told him the other day that maybe he needs to keep a towel on the passenger seat in the car incase my water comes gushing out sometime... and now I think he's more concerned about his stupid car seats than me..! But he is pretty much more freaked out than me. Any update on your Braxton Hicks? I'm used to the craziness of it now. Sometime's I'm almost hoping they turn painful and are the real thing...lol.

You cannot fly direct. We really wanted to but had to take a train. All the flights go through Mumbai, Bangalore, Mangalore and Chennai. When did the direct flights start? We could not find any in Jan. Took the Rajdhani first class sleeper and got there in 10 hours. Cochin can be lovely. Make a trip to Matanjerry (sp?) to check out some antiques. I really enjoyed that. I believe you meant Mattancherry :) My in-laws live there. Yep Stellapas, you'll find hoards of nice things around Mattancherry, Jew Town and Fort Cochin. Don't miss out a coffee at the Kashi cafe. They also do a very good chocolate cake.

Its going to be hot in most places in India around then, unless you plan a trip to a hill station. I love Goa too, but April might just be alittle tough for the kids and most shacks will be taken apart by then. If you pick a good hotel, then the kids might enjoy their time with the water activities.

So, we never really do much on V day; but this time I just thought I'll make these baileys truffles for my sis in law...she's been asking me to make them since forever than anything else... I asked DH how many he wants me to keep for him and he's like "NO NO NO... I'm trying to lose my tummy (its not even that apparent..his "tummy")... just take aside one for me to taste and give the rest away". So after I kept some for SIL, I brought the rest to work. Turns out DH loved them, stole more than one from his sister's batch and now wants another batch just for himself as a V Day gift. :o MEN!!!

As a mother with a daughter far away I would tell you not to only communication once or twice a week to your mother, then perhaps she won't have the million questions. As long as I have a daily fix I'm ok! It could be a text message or a few lines on facebook, it doesn't really matter, as long as i know what she's doing and she's happy and ok. We skype only once or twice a week but always in the evening when she's not otherwise occupied at University. By the time we get around to skyping there is lots to talk about as we've been exchanging news for a few days so it's never just about mundane things like what are you eating for dinner. Drop a few lines by email or text everyday and get a reply, it really helps to keep your mother happy and let her know you're ok. We send each other funnies and links sometimes 3 or 4 times a day as we're both at computers, I don't know how I would cope with only speaking once a week, i'd probably be like your mum and have it all bottled up! :) Uh, sorry ..missed a small detail. Talk to my dad, and very often to mom too, every night. Even if its just for a minute, but EVERY single night :)

@ Frances: I'm glad to hear a mum's side too. When we drive from here to visit them in Oman, she calls (or makes my dad call) atleast 6 times on the way. I just want her to understand that this hypertension is not good for her health. But she just doesn't get it.... doesn't even make an effort to understand or try n control it. It really scares me to see/hear her like that.

@ Wuffles: I make sure that I talk to her online only like once or twice a week, when I don't have work. The other days I just tell her I'm busy and go offline because I don't want her to get into this habit of having to chat with me everyday. The reason I do this is because otherwise she used to ask me if I could come online at home during weekends... and I hate doing that. I realise she probably gets bored at home too. My Dad's at work all day and even though my mom teaches students at home, she has very few of them now. @ SW: Thankfully, I'm not all she has in life. She talks to my sister everyday too, though that's on the phone so its shorter as opposed to being online. I try n control myself most of the times, but its just these times when I just snap that make me feel so guilty.

It doesnt work for your skin, dont use it, if it does, use it. ;)...anyway, I like it :) Aww, sorry Sue for making u feel that way... should have mentioned that I love their stuff too!

I did a search for a previous thread but haven't managed to see it, but I know that someone once spoke about getting blocks of chocolate (Lindt, I think) at wholesale prices from somewhere. I've been increasingly making truffles and other stuff that need a LOT of chocolate, so am seriously thinking about finding out sources where I may get it for a tad cheaper?

Lol! :D I was recently doing an ad for one of the banks offering an offer with Shop & Ship, and the account servicing lady was INSISTING I use the same copy as the reference ad, which was from Shop & Sip. It went like this "Here's the deal... so you wanna know what the catch is? None!" It took me 2 hours and a hormotional outbreak to tell her its just not right for a bank to talk like that. :o

I always thought Lush is actually Canadian. Oh well, doesn't change the fact that in UK, the Lush staff is far, far more pleasant and knowledgeable. The stuff is far more reasonably priced too. I went to the store here at DCC and the staff was not helpful at all. PS: If you do a search on a previous Lush thread, someone actually wrote to them asking why they were so highly price here and they wrote back talking about rents and stuff.

I love Kebab Shop too... love it :) I had a hard time explaining to friends who've never lived in the UK what a donner is before Kebab Shop came in. If you know what paani puri is, then I think Urban Tadka has the best I've had in a long, long time... even better than the ones you get in Bombay. UT has a 'chaat counter' at the back of the actual restaurant, mainly desi snacky stuff and great masala chai. I love B2B too... Love their shawarma sandwich and they have a simple tomato-mozarella wrap that I order often.

Sorry, but I just saw your post. Too late, but maybe bookmark this for next time. Since I hate using candy thermometeres n stuff like that, this is a go-to jam recipe that I keep on hand. 600 g fresh strawberries, quartered/pureed chunky if you like 200 g sugar 50 g lemon juice (from one lemon) Combine everything in a medium-size stockpot and bring to boil over high heat, about 5 minutes. Lower heat to a simmer. Cook for another 20 minutes, or until the jam thickens. Remove from heat and let cool completely. Keep in clean jar and refrigerate. This will keep for 2 weeks. I love flavouring it with a hint of thyme sometimes.

Oh no, gusncoley! Now you've made me lust for Blueberry Bait. If you ever want it, here's a recipe. It's so good you might get addicted, especially to the light connamon sugar crust: Makes 1 9x13-inch cake 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature 3/4 cup granulated sugar, divided 3/4 cup light brown sugar 3 large eggs 1 cup whole milk 1 cup frozen wild blueberries 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon Position a rack to the center of the oven and preheat it to 350 degrees. Spray a 9x13-inch baking pan with cooking spray and line it with a sheet of parchment paper with a few inches of overhang on two sides. Spray the parchment, too. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter, 1/2 cup of the granulated sugar and all the brown sugar on medium speed until lightened in color and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Scrape downt he bottom and sides of the bowl. Beat in the eggs one at a time, letting each one incorporate fully before adding the next. Reduce the mixer speed to low and add half the flour, mixing just until the flour begins to disappear. Add the milk, mixing to incorporate. Add the rest of the flour and mix until there are a few streaks of flour left in the batter. Fold in the rest by hand with a large rubber spatula until the batter is smooth. Remove the blueberries from the freezer and divide in half. Place half the berries in a small bowl and toss with 1/ 2 teaspoon flour. Mix the floured berries into the batter and spread the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the rest of the berries on top of the batter. Combine the remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar with the cinnamon and sprinkle evenly over the batter. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 45 minutes. Cool in the pan on a wire rack. Remove the cake from the pan using the parchment sleeve and cut into squares. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Good Lord, today is SO going to be a cake night girls. There is no way I'm going to survive this attack.

Ha ha... you're most welcome... I keep hopping by all the threads, esp now that the January ones are popping 'em out :D How exciting! I'm due on March 10th at Welcare but cannot see myself go upto then, really. And given the way this chicka is kicking inside me ALL DAY LONG, I don't think she wants to either! I'm hoping a 38 week arrival won't harm anyone :)
