I use a yellow cake mix any brand, and instead of the water I use the juice from the pineapple can and mix as per instructions on box. I melt a stick of butter (1/2 cup) in my cast iron skillet then add about 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar to the melted butter mix. Then I assemble the pineapple rings from the can ontop of sugar butter. Then I pour prepared cake mix on top and bake at around 170 degrees C until set and golden brown on top. IT IS THE BEST YUM! OK think I will go down and make one now! May I invite myself over? :D

Dear God that is ridiculous! 4 kilos is nothing! Do they have really small babies or something?? In my experience Lebanese women are very glam so maybe this reflects their need to be back in shape shortly after the babies are born... but even so!!!! Blimey thought I was doing well at just over 12 kilos but the midwife was quite stern with me last week when I hadn't put any weight on since the week before and DH is constantly accusing me of under-eating. LOL, 4 kilos I just cannot get over that. Thank goodness we are living in Dubai! :) No ... they have like 3 kilo babies and the rest is placenta! Not even like really small babies or anything.... I don't know how they do it! But I guess its because they ALWAYS eat so healthy :o

What astonishes me the most is how can they ask someone to not express their opinion on the experience they had? Surely, if I were to TALK about the food I did not like at a restaurant, I cannot be sued?

Imagine my state when I heard that in Lebanon the NATIONAL AVERAGE for women to put on weight is 4 kilos…. FOUR KILOS!!!! I dare not google that information to find that its true because then I will certainly go into depression. This Lebanese lady at work told me about how her sister put on 10 kilos back home and the doctor did not let her hear the end of it. GOOD LORD.

You can buy the pieces and maybe get them made (or take them to Satwa) from the sowing shop in the mall on Jumeriah Beach Road.... I forget the name now, the one with cafe ceramique!!! Craftland is the store. Don't know if they'll make it for you though, but worth asking.

Hey KCinthecity I’m not a SAHM yet (heck, I’m not even a mom yet…lol) but I will be soon and this is something I’m been pondering over, so for whatever its worth, here are my thoughts. It is a very personal choice, and it’s YOURS; with DH’s inputs. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I don’t judge other mums by their choices of going back to work or not, and hence don’t expect anyone else to judge me by mine. If I was back home, I would have probably gone back to work in four months since my line of work is much, much more interesting and vibrant there than here in Dubai. I’m going to quit work and be home for at least the first few months, letting my body heal and trying to get to know my first child. I just want to soak all of her babyness, because I know it’ll never come back. I want some time off to accept and understand that I’m now a mum, and then I want to decide what kind of a parent I want to be. Also, for myself: I want to start working on making a life list. I have to make this before I'm 30 so that I can atleast do some of the stuff I've always wanted to. I want to work more seriously and more often on my blog. I want to get fit – slowly, but surely. I put on 10 kilos after I got married, and then 8 more for the pregnancy. I don’t mind the pregnancy weight at all, but the kilos before that I piled on solely due to my irresponsibility and laziness :) Do all the research on a new business idea that DH and I want to start later this year. Meet other mums. I think this is important only because sometimes you need support in the form of other beautiful people. Of course, I don't know how much of this I'll end up doing with a tiny person always wanting my attention, but this is the "plan". As I see it, my time off as a SAHM is the sabbatical that I’ve always wanted in the last 6 years. To answer your questions: It is a loss of personal identity if you think it to be. If you think you will only be known as “DH’s wife” or “DD’s mum”, I don’t think that is the case. You will still be known to everyone as yourself, as an individual, a caring wife and a loving mother. But for this to happen, you have to truly believe in it yourself. Being a mom is much tougher than a lot of other jobs, as I’m sure you know better than me. Of course you’ll be able to stay at home all day! They grow up far too quickly, and you’ll cherish those moments. The gap, probably depends on your line of work, and I think Klee’s answered that is the best way possible. You will not drive him nuts if you try not to. Your DD is now old enough for you to be mobile. Meet other mums, set up playdates, catch up on a new hobby and make a life for yourself that’s not only about looking after DD. The respect bit will depend on your DH and your relationship. Most guys understand how tough it is to be a mom, and they leave the choice to their wives.

Right, so anyone else who's also: Getting crazy Braxton Hicks or WHATEVER it is that makes your tummy tight? Going berserk with baby's CONSTANT dancing around the tummy. Impatient to get this done with and wants to FINALLY hold baby (this I say while trying not to think of the sleepless nights ahead) Still confused about which pushchair to buy? Not being able to resist cuteness-personified little clothes ESPECIALLY when there's a sale all over the place? :) :) :)

Aww, that's so sweet! We're currently living abroad, been almost a year now in Delhi, India. Since we'll be rushing through Dubai to Abu Dhabi where our folks reside soon I'm afraid I can't do any stopovers. Thanks again for the offer, though, I really do appreciate it. :) Solely for the love of baking, I can offer to send it across with DH's cousin to Delhi. She's here on a short holiday and will be back in Delhi on 31st. :D I think they're destined to belong to you :) I'm not really too nice a person. I just know how difficult it is to find baking related stuff like this in India AND here :D

Dr Zainab Kazim Shunnar can turn babies. She is one of the most experienced and trusted gynecologists here in Dubai; many Emiratis who are now in their 40s were delivered by her. Unfortunately, Dubai Health Authority no longer allows her to deliver babies. She practices out of Al Shunnar Polyclinic, near JBS school, in Jumeira 1. Hey Apricot, just out of curiosity... why is she not ALLOWED to deliver babies?

I have a few questions since this is not your first :D Do lots of Braxton Hicks mean you can deliver earlier than 40 weeks? :D Like 38 or something? And do most women deliver the first kid around 40 weeks? Or is it earlier? Psst...gimme some hope :D braxton hicks already?! i thought we were in this together stovetop! ;) but seriously, is it odd if i dont have any? Maybe you just didn't recognise it yet? I thot it was DD playing around my tummy and clenching her fists or something till my sister who was visiting told me that they are BH. I was like, aaah THAT's what they are then. :D

also-- that Egyptian couple who recently had a multiple birth in the UAE. They were given a house I think, right? In all fairness, after reading the Gulf News article, I don't think we can compare the two cases. This couple had been trying for years, but were clearly not ecstatic when they found out they're having sextuplets because they knew the end of their means. Also, they said they want to return home to Egypt so that they can have help caring for the kids, but couldn't afford air tickets...meaning at least they do have some sort of a plan to cope with this without help from strangers. I really don't think it's fair to compare these guys with Octomum, who clearly wants attention too. http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/health/couple-welcomes-sextuplets-but-face-tough-financial-challenge-1.737652 edited by stovetop on 26/01/2011

I figured that was what you were looking for. My DD quickly became obsessed with the toys that hung from the play gym so I'd take one off for her to play with when I noticed her interest. I also got a great little Organic cotton bear from The Toy Store that is small and doesn't have any buttons or bits that could fall off. She wasn't overly keen on it originally but she now sleeps with it every night! I would steer clear of anything blankie-like until they can roll or at least have the co-ordination/strength to get it away from their face if necessary. Good luck with your search. Sorry I wasn't much help. edited by Giggles on 26/01/2011 Ooooh, organic cotton bear! Sounds like I could do with one now :D Thanks, I will take alook at it this weekend

Don't forget that the three of them were probably in it together to get more ratings. For the Oprah show or for the new octomum reality show?? I think Oprah and Suze did it on purpose to try and garner some sympathy for the woman in anticipation of her launching a reality TV show.... :\: She's planning her own show?

I agree Oprah and Suze did come down hard on Octomum, but I cannot get myself to feel sorry for her. Has she ever thought about what will happen to the 14 kids if their mum suddenly dies or something? She said something about how she felt only a child (or 14) could give her unconditional love and acceptance and frankly, I thought that was a selfish factor to bring in 14 kids into the world. Sure, a lot of people have the same reason to give birth, but they usually have less than 14 kids.

Though I know that nothing else comes close to a Kitchen Aid, :D if you are looking for a sturdy and equally awesome stand mixer, go in for the Kenwood. Think it's around 900 AED. I use it 5 times a week and love it :D I didn't buy the Kitchen Aid only because I didn't know at the time if I'm really going to bake that much or use it. But now DH is convinced that for the next one, I deserve a KA :D Probably when we leave Dubai for good, I'm gonna sell this one and get my dream machine.

Thanks ladies. Yup, all this groundwork is so that I can do everything the legal way. Don't wish to get into anything fishy. I'm wondering how freelance writers and photographers work - the lagal ones. I'm looking at taking some freelance design consultation projects, as I've been approached for these but like I said, don't want to start anything till I am allowed to and have all the licenses etc in place. SalsB, do you have TashaB's email id? Or do you know her personally so maybe you can tell her about this thread? I'm sure she'll have some valuable info.
