Thanks everyone. Baby Anya arrived precisely @ 12:12pm on the 12th of March via c-section after 2 unsuccessful, not to mention rather painful induction attempts. Welcare has been great and I couldn't have asked for more from a team of doctors & medical staff. Thanks CW for letting everyone know. :-) PS: I am watching the match with Anya and DH but she doesn't seem as excited as she used to be inside my tummy. Probably tired from the journey from the womb into the world. ;-) edited by stovetop on 25/03/2011

You've probably already left for the hospital but just wanted to say I'm thinking of you and sending you lots of positive thoughts. If I can do it, you can do it and you will. xx PS I did exactly the same the night I was induced. Bawled like a two-year-old, if that makes you feel any better. It's perfectly normal! edited by DubaiCat on 11/03/2011 Oh THANKS DC!!!!! That really helps. I thought I'm the only weeping idiot after looking forward to this day for so long. Is the induction painful? Did u get an epidural? How long did it take u to reach the epidural stage... the 4 cms dilated thingy? Sorry, I'm just so scared.

Tx stovetop, nothing to be scared off when it comes to inductions. This was my second one, normal delivery. You will have gel put on and will be waiting for contractions and dilation. It could be a long process. I went in on sat night at 9:30pm and Liliana was born on Sunday at 4:49pm. You will need lots of patience. My dh and I were super bored till it was time to push. So bring magazines, books, things to do, or it might go by quick. Best of luck. Let us know how it all goes. Speedy delivery for you! Thanks! Did you get an epidural? I 'plan' to, but then not much has worked according to the plan till now. I think I'm more scared about the cervical exam to check dilation they will keep doing before n after putting the gel. Ugh. DC, best of luck for Sunday. I'm sure you'll do great. :)

Does anyone know how ENBD is as a bank? I want to switch primarily because HSBC is becoming increasingly daft and I like the instant sms salik by ENBD. But don't want to get into the hassle only to realise they're as bad.

Happy W Day, you lovely ladies. :) Now in the spirit of womanhood, please collectively send me some vibes to start labor contractions so I don't have to be induced Friday night. :D Sending double strength vibes :) Have you tried a long walk, a hot bath and s*x? Thanks CT. Have tried long swims, sitting in the jacuzzi, squatting and mopping the floor and everything else I could. @Frances... EDD is tom. 10th.

Will you tell me when the sale is on? ;) So when you buy material, does it come in a set like for salwar kameezes? Or do you mix n match yourself? I'm trying to look at images for azaar, but can't find the one that I specifically want. They are not churidaars, not patialas, just sort of parallel pants with a snug fit around the hips. Are those specifically called azaars?

I would not say it’s weird. As for a wedding you are expected to bring a present. They invited you for a dinner (celebrate and share their event) and they are not expecting you to bring the present but to pay for yourself. Personally Im totally fine with it. There was nothing said about [b'>not[/b'> getting presents. :) ETA: Most people I know who attended brought gifts. If I was attending and paying for myself, I would too. I think its a gesture that goes without saying, the reasons being many. A couple just about to start their lives together could always do with nice stuff that they may not have splurged on after the wedding expenses... (In this case it was a holiday wedding, these guys flew out somewhere to get married, just the two of them) and also it's a memoir to keep from the wedding. Just my thoughts. But then maybe its just me feeling weird going to a wedding celebration empty-handed. Each to his own, I guess. edited by stovetop on 09/03/2011

Last year, a friend got married and invited us for a buffet dinner at a nice hotel. The invite mentioned the price for the buffet too and the fact that each person was expected to pay for themselves. I found this a little weird, I mean if you want to celebrate your wedding.... why would you want people to pay for it? But then I thought maybe it was a Dubai thing. Though I must admit, I was glad I was out of town and couldn't attend. Can't judge it as right or wrong, but it just felt a little weird.

Typically, I've noticed here that the Pakistani shalwar kameez's are different than the Indian ones. Like the shalwars are more like pants, and the kameez's are so much better fitted. I went to know what sort of fabric is best for these cuts. Don't think cotton will give it quite that fall. And where can I find nice ones here? I usually wear the Fabindia cotton churidaar ones but only when I'm back home in India with the in laws. Wouldn't mind getting a couple of these stitched. Will you help me out please? :)

Aah stovetop, cannot tell you what a horrid shock it was to see 99 for 6 when I got home tired after a long day of studying. Sad Pakistani :( Hope your induction goes smoothly Thanks for your wishes Em2san, really. Feeling guilty now (a little bit) for showing blatant joy at the arch rival's disappointing show, but I am clearly looking for any kind of joy in my situation. :D PS: Don't u think had it not been for the partition, we'd have the best team in the bl00dy world :D

Hmn, thanks ladies. DH is getting increasingly worried that the baby might not be able to sleep with him in the same room (the crib will be in our room till we move to a bigger place). Funny, it never bothered him that I don't get sleep because of his roars. :\: edited by stovetop on 08/03/2011

TBH the ones who do buy the extravagant gifts are usually either very very wealthy and find 450AED is like 45 to me (and they don't have kids and have no idea what to buy), or they're buying it to kind of show off... Or they bought it way ahead at the 70% sale ;)

I really hope some of the things said here are not the "norm in Dubai". As someone who might become a parent any minute now (so what if my baby doesn't think so :\: ), I really don't see myself catering for maids and uninvited siblings... and giving kids vouchers of magnormous amounts. As for feelings of jealousy between siblings at a young age, my nieces are a year and 10 months apart and have been attending different parties from a very young age. My sister takes the other kid to the ice cream parlor or her favourite bakery after she drops the one at the party, and there was this one time when the younger one actually said she would rather have the ice cream treat than go to the party of a particular classmate who broke her sharpener....lol. Anyway, point being that they never really seem to mind/bother as they're used to it from a young age. But of course, if they are secretly harboring feelings of jealousy and sibling rivalry, then we'll know in a few years....lol. edited by stovetop on 08/03/2011

When we were kids, I remember my sister bringing back a few sweets for me from the birthday parties she went to, but I never thought of attending them with her. I mean, don't ppl have boundaries from an early age when it comes to their friends? I really can't imagine going to a birthday party of my older sibling's friend and playing around with the rest of her gang... so weird. Please tell me I'm not the only one. The movie ticket as an invite is a brilliant idea. :)

Stovetop!!! What's going on with you... when r u planning on popping ;) Hurry up already... I want to read about baby stovetop! Feeling so low today Meals, donno what's up with my system. Crying for no reason. Baby showing no signs of head engagement and thus no 'lightening', no pressure for dilation/effacement to start, no loss of mucous plug, no tinted discharges, ugly pink marks ALL OVER tummy, so much so that even the nurse said to me last time "OMG, you have a LOT of stretch marks".:\: Thought at least the nurses had seen worse. Think I'm just tired.

I would say well done Ireland. Shame on India. I wouldn't say that. I think its only fair that everyone realises that Irish aren't a team to ignore, even though they are branded associates (whatever that means). I do think the English made the mistake of not taking them too seriously, just like India would have if it wasn't for that match where Ireland totally kicked a$$.

One of my friends had left her glass vases out at floor level (where they were usually displayed), which I thought very brave, but her explanation was that her son needed to learn that some things are not to be touched... which is a very good point when you're going round houses or shops which haven't been baby/ toddler-proofed. Tracy Hogg too writes about this in the Baby Whisperer. About kids understanding that certain things belong to Mummy, and are not toys.
