oh dear. He is the same weight as when you met him? is he the same size as when you met him? there can be a difference ...a 170 man could weigh 200lbs but be chubby, but another 170cm man who weighs 200 could be slim and toned. But if nothing has changed then you might be the one who has to change your expectations :)

Has he struggled with weight before? does he enjoy exercise? Why not do a calendar of when he is home. then find 1/2 hour to go for a brisk walk, even when he is tired :)..start out with 15 min,,, 8 out, 7 back :) even if he just gets sneakers on, then goes out the door then back again...the sneakers are on. It is difficult to motivate someone else but being his partner certainly helps. He has to want to and it also has to be something he enjoys. Start small, take stairs instead of elevators, walk to a destination...park farther away....make food wonderful to eat and make only enough for that meal...lots of water. No pushing, just gentle shoving :) Build activity into his day so he does not really notice :)

A friend just had this happen to her and her husband while walking the dog. White Car, showed police ID...etc... the husband asked to see the police ID again and the men drove off. Just a white sedan with 2 men. I would refuse to stop and call 999, get the license number of the car if you have your phone. I am thinking wen I walk the dog my phone is coming with me.

Being a landlord. The tenant is going to pay the same rent for the year but in 4 installments instead of 2. How will this impact the landlord. If there is no impact then I would agree to it and let it go. If there is an impact on the landlord and the landlord has to find a new renter, what, if after the 2 months extra the tenant has to pay once vacated the unit is still not rented nor the next month etc. So, the landlord has to decide whether or not the impact on his/herself will be too great to let the present tenants change their payment from2x or 4. If the landlord cannot do this then the option is to give notice to vacate, and hope for the best.

agree with notnewintown. The Rotisserie chickens I get at the shops in Canada are bigger and fatter and.....full of hormones!!!! and tastless to be honest. That is one thing I will miss here. The small beautiful succulent chickens with so much taste, taken off the rotisserie and delivered to my door the minute they are done!!!!!! Now I am talking about the little corner stores with rotisseries :)...not spinneys :)....all the little shops deliver so if you live near one...order!!!

SueB is painting it all rosy but once pushed a bit she admits that, in TWELVE YEARS her husband has had ONE summer holiday! Also she admits that he sleeps for 12 hours, eats and goes straight back to bed. GreaIt life. This apparently is your answer , OP, regarding the rosters - absolutely exhausting. Yes Sue, that is what I said but you need to have taken it in the whole context :) It was in reply to those who said their husbands did not have family time, christmas, school holidays etc...I was not pushed to say what was said lol....I related our life and you forgot to also mention that my husband is in his 60's which would have a much greater toll on him than a man in his 40's :)... Yes, I do paint a Rosy Picture because for us, that is pretty much it. We made a decision to Look on The Bright Side of Life (listen to the song, it is perfect lol) and my husband is not absolutely exhausted all the time lol....re : holidays...when I say summer, I mean smack in the middle June, July August. But it has not been a problem, it is just the way it is :) So, for those that this is a problem for....and you are not here yet, then I might not come :) but not a problem for us... Bush pilots?? I do have to say when you are young you start at the bottom everywhere. Once a company accepts your credentials of min flying hours they pay for the rest of your training. You should not be paying to get into a Glass Cockpit. Most of the guys we know started out of the military in the Air Force. So, any want to be pilots sign up. If you are paying for your own training for 10-15 years and are in heavy debt because of it......maybe the road taken was the wrong one because s I say, once you are hired be it Buffalo wing in the North or 'fly by the seat of your pants'in the south, the airline pick up the tab for recurrent training and upgrades. Unless things have changed drastically. Ok then, since my name was mentioned I replied :)...I am most likely done with this thread now as I think all the OP's questions and then some have been covered lol EDIT: I asked my husband about pilots paying for their training. He said it was a U.S. thing that fell over to other places for low cost airlines. Pilots needed hours so inhis words these airlines (raped and pillaged the pilots) to get their hours. He also said because airlines now are getting desperate for pilots we should see this trend ending. shameful of these airlines

well ok, I understand where you are coming from but, they were not golden years. Maybe 20 years ago they were but we had to have a car loan and the company gave 50,000 interest free to get started. So we paid it off. As for coming debt free, we sold our house so paid off all our debts. I know things are more expensive, I do live here. Look, I do have compassion, the whole thing I have been speaking about is how very unhappy everyone on here seems...no one even looks for a bright side. IfI was wanting to come here after reading all this I also might change my mind. All I was trying to get across is there is another side. Yes the husbands are tired, mine included and because he is in his 60's a lot harder for him. He comes home now and can sleep for 12 hrs and goes to bed after breakfast the next day... yes he is exhausted, we try hard to make what we have work, it is not any easier than anyone else but we are here, we have to live here and we might as well try and find happy somehow. That is all I am saying. Am i judging? Idont think so, I am trying to counteract the negativity and the black cloud. I don't see how people can live with so much unhappiness and not try and change it somehow. My husband also had a 3 year bond. Our first actual summer holiday in 12 years was this past summer! we were stunned to say the least. I can count on him managing 2 actual whole christmas days in 12 years. We often had christmas on the 26th or 27th... I never said anyone was ungrateful. But I cannot understand why no one seems to be able to find a bright side. Right now, it is what it is :(...it cannot be changed but we can change how we deal and look at it. So I am sorry if you looked at it that way but that is not how it was meant. We try hard and have tried hard through the years here, when there were changes in the contracts, when hours were increased, when he was exhausted etc., we would discuss it, settle it in our minds and move along ...because we could not change it we had to change our mindset or we would have been pretty miserable here :( I do hope things change in the next few years for Emirates so things can be scaled back but until they do .........

yup, have had the out of country mtgs for 6 years., 2 of them,. but that is our choice :) and we bought to retire, but again it is a choice, not something we can say omg we have to pay this and this and this... we bought what we can afford to work within our budget... if we had to leave here before next year, it might be tough but we could do it. so...yup...the mortgage is for our home country and that is our choice..we do not have a mtg here :) nor credit card debt, nor car loan. .....soooooo. horses for course lol... we live within our means. I have to add....we bought an investiment apt which pays for itself for the most part, and we bought our house which we have been renovating for 4 years...so..... horses for courses!! love that idiom but I am not quite sure it applies in this situation> hhmm

I am sooooo going to regret this. If you have a mortgage that is something you chose to do. If you have a large credit balance on a credit care, that is also your choice, car loans can be paid off in 3 years and why do you have personal loans??? all that tells me if you are living above your means. Kids in school I grant that one, it is not cheap but doable. Not many companies are hiring DECs you are right! so I think it comes down to quality of life. What are you willing to give up for the quality of life you want. We have been through 3 bankrupt airlines, started a life over again that many times, lost 2 pensions and soldered on. Our kiddo did not get to an expensive summer camp, not did he travel the world, we did not have a maid to clean and had one car. When we came it it was for the money... we sold our house at home and for the first time in 25 years we were totally debt free.! we have stayed that way. If it was unbearable for my husband we would have been gone a long time ago. But it was not...we moved with the times, he got paid and paid well , we have a nice accommodation, our major car is a 12 year old Honda Pilot.... we owe no money in the UAE.. I know it is tough for the 777 pilots, and it will not get better anytime soon until more pilots are hired. I know it is tough, I have been there, through the mill and out the other side. I feel bad for all of you :(...but I cant help you but you can help you....it is tough, I know...you miss him,you miss time...but...right now this is the way it is..... Know it will not always be this way, but for right now, this is your life!! you have a choice! to work with what you have, make your husbands time at home wonderful because you are it! you are his lifeline for now...you have the care of the kids...make it good...make the home good not bitchy..no one can afford that right now :(...It might **** you off having to do this but....this is what is on your plate right now. If you want/need to stay, then make the best of a bad situation that at this moment in time, you cannot change! Do not think for one minute I do not feel for you .....

sorry, quite smoking 7 years ago lol.....feel being positive makes you feel a whole lot better than living under the angry cloud. Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change The courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. I learned that long ago when I most needed it. It has always worked for me. So, there is my smoke Different perspectives people. Glass half empty or half full. Change it if you can. If you cant work with what you have and make it work. I do not take my life in my hands with Idrive here any more than driving in Montreal 30 years ago, or any huge city. Breath in breath out.

Holy Cow Ladies. Why are you all still here??? There are a whole lot of us who are happy here. We married pilots. Missing important times is the norm, always, shift work for heavens sakes. You signed on. Emirates is short of pilots right now. The 380 fleet has taken the Jam trips and the 777 is the workhorse of the airline so thats what they do... Air time. Max is 900 hrs a year, just like Europe. And fyi, in Canada it is 1,000hrs/hr.....24/7 operation here in Dubai. Meydan accommodation. I have been in them. It is not like a labour camp! went to a party at 'Motown'!! or really called Meydan south. So far the 1st 30 OLD PEOPLE have moved in and most are fine. Yes it is different but the area will grow quickly. Look at what people said about Silicon when they moved there!!! btw, the kitchens in 'Motown' are happy about the huge kitchens compared to what they came from. They seem to be very philosophical about the whole thing. Another excitment I guess. Sure as **** not labour camps for heavens sakes. Driving you get used to..no problem. What seemed like a long way eventually is no problem. I guess you have to ask your husband why he wants to come here. I certainly would not get stuck on pprune. As for planning, we have christmas when he gets home. Until we moved here he never had holidays in the summer. One year we spread out christmas out over 5 days lol....we holiday without him and he joins us. We try hard to be positive rather than live with this huge black cloud over our heads.. If we did that we would be so crippled by anger we would just have to leave :(..... So come. It is not a life sentence. You are not committing yourself to years of horrid living and livingin a slum.....If you are given a bunch of lemons....make the best lemonade you ever made. Make the best of what you have and run with it.!!!! Jump and Arm Pump . I have to add. If you start hanging with negative people you will eventually be pulled in. Find positive people who can work around things.....Look on the bright side of life!!!

If she is pregnant by her husband and has proof that she is married that is fine. She will not get in trouble. I had not heard about having to produce the husbands visa but you will have to probably, produce the attested marriage certificate. If she has that she can go to any clinic. It is not against the law to be pregnant and married. If she is unmarried, that is another story and she should get on the next flight home. Do her employers know she is married? she should let them know and when she is leaving, I am sure they would be some help to her. The attested marriage certificate is the most important thing.

Ok Yellow, here's more poop lol. Come, stay the 3 years and see how you are faring. You don't have to worry about Uni right now because your child is 9 months. You sound like the gal who will just get on with it, no moaning, learn to navigate the traffic, which is doable and since you don't have to do a school run right now there might even be a school built where you are moving to. Yes, the girls are right about the shortage of pilots. But Emirates still has to stick within the law of 90 hrs/month so no, they do not fly 100 hrs as far as I know( have been known to not know if the GCC has changed legal flying hours). I do know the holidays have been slashed but it s not all doom and gloom. Think of it as a short term job, save what money you can, enjoy the sun and sand, bring with you the stuff you love or opt for emirates furniture. Really, it is an adventure. A lot of pilots are tired but does it break up marriages??? well, unless someone has found somthing cuter, younger or whatever why would it? seriously, I have supported my husband for 35 years as he being a pilot who was often tired, where he was gone a month at a time, don't even get me on the 4 hour commute he did for 2 years...by car!! in the winter!!! talk about tired!!, where things went right to **** and we both grew up in the marriage. We worked hard at the really rough times, I would never leave because of the hours my husband worked or that I had to do child care single handedly at times (maids are cheap here) You marry for better or worse, and sometimes the worse might last longer but pull up those socks and get with the program and support each other and you will get through it. just my 10 canadian cents lol Good luck to your husband on the Assessment. Let us know when you arrive for the 'look see' someone might grab you for lunch lol "feeling positive about Emirates, maybe it is my age?" but we came for a job and we stayed for the job, we did not necessarily come for the adventure but for the money !!! honest!!! can't lie, airlines in canada went in the toilet so here we all were :) happy for the most part and happy to go home as well :)

I honestly thought I would stay out of this because of my age and not having kids here but, me being me. well, I have to ask, why a few of you are still here if it is so horrid. We have been here 13 years, on our way to retirement. No children. But lots of friends with little ones and big ones :). My suggestion is this...your baby is 9 months. Your husband will be here for 3 years anyway if he is with Emirates to work off the bond. So,,yo have time to figure out if you want to stay :). I feel, from my friends discussions that it is a great place for kids :)...lots to do, as women, we always find things to do and make friends etc because as wives of pilots we know we will be along a lot :)...that is the life :)e Meydan is new...a lot of friends were just relocated there. I think the villas are pretty good...they will grow, facilities will eventually and quickly be installed, just like Silicon Oasis, you get used to the drive, the kitchen is big, yards are small but so what... you will make friends and your child will find friends...you have nothing to lose, really. you are 5 hours from UK...family can visit...the sun shines...I would go for it. You are young, baby is young and you can work here as a teacher if you choose. You sound like a gal who will just jump in once the decision is made...do this if only for 3 years...;.really, honestly...if we could have, we would have done this 20 years ago....come!!! get those bells out!!!

I have been on and off BHRT for some years now. I do not have a problem with them but do not take them everyday... They certainly helped with the hot flashes, vag dryness and thinning labia...etc...I am 65 this month and still take them but as I said not every day...only 3x a week, sometimes only 2x's. I think you need to ask yourself why your Dr. is considering putting you on any hormone replacement? are you having a hard time in menopause? what are your symptoms and will Bhrt help with those? how is your diet and excersize regime..do you take a multivit...have you had a blood panel to see if you are deficient in any vits. I feel there is a whole lot to consider before going on anything. Do not just research Bhrt but research options in menopause and how to get through it. Now, if your symptoms are upsetting you then yes, it might be the way to go for 3 months. that really is not a long time and can alleviate the symptoms but remember menopause lasts longer than 3 months lol... but it might get you to a place where you can deal with it changing diet and exercise. Anyway, as I said, I am on bhrt infrequently now. I talked to my Dr. about the age women live to now and really, our bodies should just get with the program and not go through menopause until 70 lol..then who gives a s hit lol....

Only take back what you love. Do not haul anything you really do not like. So you are planning on selling everything, sheets, towels, cutlery, pots and pans and all your other kitchen stuff and buying new? You might also look into sending some boxes with the above items in cargo on the plane when you leave. It all depends on if you like your stuff enough to bring it home, or screw it and just buy buckets of new stuff :)

I take baking soda now and then, not everyday. When I am having reflux episodes I take prescribed meds for 2 weeks in the a.m. change my diet again, remove wheat completely and that solves the problem. I do not take anything continuously. I agree that taking anything for longer periods of time can damage the lining so I also recommend seeing a Dr. for a workup. But the Baking Soda works fab for a now and then..not every day just like taking an antacid everyday...if you have to do that there is something either wrong with your diet or something else :).....

slippery slope. My friend did that but she stayed with him while making arrangement to leave, plane, passports, money. She packed baby stuff in a suitcase a few clothes of her own. Someone picked her up when he was away...got her on the plane and she was gone. That seems to be the only way to do it. If her husband is a nice person, not abusive mentally or physically, does not hurt or harm the children in any way. Would she be happy with them not knowing their father? If the husband calls the police, she will be arrested. If she goes to a hotel and leaves the children that will be it anyway. She needs to be smart not stupid. Get a good lawyer and find out. I would suggest after sharing info with her, you stay out of it :)

of course you report it! you get his name and number off the information sheet in the back of the taxi and let RTA know they have a thief working for them. Forget about drunk people eh,, think about the woman who is unsure and takes him at his word...this guy needs to be reported. As a matter fact, if you 'think' he should be reported you need to do it. Just to add. A good habit to get into, especially when you are alone is the minute you get in the taxi, put his information in your Iphone and mail it to someone.

Provided housing is a good place to start :)....after a year of looking around, finding your legs etc then you can decide if you want to live on the economy :)... but houseing first...it helps in the transition. In Emirates yes, there is funds for private schooling. I do not know the percentage of course..as those with kids would be able to tell you :) When your pilot is a captain you are entitled to a villa, children or not....so you do have time to see how things go...take the 3 years and enjoy Dubai.

With respect I ask this question. Why are children being assessed for school at 2.5 yrs???????? those are babies.... Why are children not starting school at 5? Even 4 yr old kindergarten? but 2.5??? these children should be learning from their mothers I would think.... I was one of the children held back but after grade 1...because I was too young and not able to grasp the work at that age...I was devastated. It would have been better if my parents had waited until I was 5. Look at your child, listen, and see what they might be ready for.. they might not be quite ready for school so listen and do not push them into something they are not quite ready for :)

stay away from Pprune. That is a very emotional website and certainly not how a good majority of us feel... Our experience is very different :)....yes, there are problems but we are at then end and retiring. been here for nearly 13 years and overall and great experience for us both Not to say there is not complaining because there is, but we are glad we came. The company is changing and sometimes not for the better but it all depends on you. If you have children, what you expect from life here etc. English is spoken pretty much everywhere, shopping is alright, food a bit more expensive..weather is wonderful in the winter...summer is not good lol but, you can live through it.... It also depends on what plane he will be flying. 777 seem to fly a lot more. This company is not perfect..all companies over the world are not perfect...When you become a pilots wife you must know that you could be spending time alone :)that is the nature of the job as the wife....we just do it and dont complain about it...... As for being more stressful? my husband has been a pilot for 41 years and he says that flying here is no more stressful than anywhere else. I have been a pilots wife and military pilots wife for 31 years and not stressful at all. We learn to be flexible, that is a pilots wife no matter where you are....When baby was small, it was a bit more stressful as I did not have family to help but we got through it...so come :)... you will enjoy your time here, keep expectations low and then you have something to climb for lol....eventually you might want to work and you can do that as well :)......it is not a bed of roses but a bed of lavender which we are so glad we did this and not stay in Canada at the time. Looking forward to going home but will miss aspects of Dubai :)...so...do not delve to deep, experience the life here, enjoy it, embrace...have one good time. Oh and then rereading I just assumed it would be an Emirates Pilot lol....excuse my assumption if your husband is going with another companylol.

Well, you could try having the vet to your house rather than the trip to the vet :)....that way she is at home and the stress will be way down until she sees him/her lol. I now use Royal Canin Calm dry food and the spray. Seems to be working :)... Energetic Panacea on Al Wasl does Bach Remedy. The owner Hilke is a holistic practitioner.

I believe they have them at the large sport store (MEC?????) at Times Square. Did you try Sun and Sand? They used to have them at Dubai Ladies Club, they could possibly tell you :)

no but that is certainly something to educate people about, that you park your car and walk with the kids...they do not understand that that is not on, especially with kids running on the streets. So, educate, next year, go to the car and explain why they need to park their car and walk with their children. You could also give a training to the police so they are also aware. Society here is totally different and they will only change if they learn by someone explaining :)

I hate Halloween. It's just another money making American import. We just watched the football, had a few lagers and ignored the door if anyone rang the bell  It is not ánother'money making American import. please read this you might be surprised where it originated from! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween Now, I realize that a good amount of children that come to the doors do not celebrate Halloween in their countries so are not familiar with Etiquette, so I think rather than ***** about their behaviour you could use it as a learning tool for them. Why not get a big group of parents together and the week before halloween go around to schools and explain the etiquette in the form of a short fun play or something...dress up in scary costurms etc....ask newspapers in other languages to explain in short form what Halloween is and the etiquette and why you say trick or treat and also about being greedy. brw, asking for money is also part of it if they do not get a treat. In Canada we had Unicef boxes. BTW in Canada we also have parents in cars driving around so it is not just here. We just do not have maids doing the parents job. Anyway, just my thoughts.
