umm - if they are not friends, why do you care if you offend them by defriending them? because even if they are not friends I wouldnt like to offend....or perhaps I am just too soft and need to heed Al Quwatain's advice. Yes, its a lot like saying 'no'! Twilight - I never knew that - I think therein lies the answer! Thanks! :)

I try and pick up the Morroccan Oil Shampoo and Conditioners when I am in the UK. Really amazing stuff that you can only buy from the hairdressers. Alternatively Kerastace.

Traiteur at the Park Hyatt, get a nice table for two outside. Perfect in this weather we went a few weeks ago and loved it more than anywhere else we've ever been. Enjoy it! :)

We love our breakfasts and do love More Cafe (but no pork) and the Organic Cafe, The Polo Club and Bunkers at the Montgomerie Golf Club. More recently we have been surprised by Tribes in MOE for a quick casual breakfast. The Boardwalk also do a lovely breakfast and people do also rave about Jones the Grocer but personally I'm not keen. Gosh I'm hungry now :) Enjoy!

The exact same thing happened to me when my sister came. Our pool was shut for 3 weeks on the day of her arrival - and it is about 20 steps from our villa so I was gutted. However, we had the Entertainer Body book and they used a few vouchers from there for pool access - Royal Meridien and Mina Seyahi I think. Not sure about the children situation though but if you have the book it may be worth enquiring as possibly cheaper alternative to waterparks and the rates are certainly cheaper midweek. I have no clue where is where in the Marina but am sure one of the buildings will allow access if not. Good Luck.

I'm sorry to hear you are feeling rotton. I dont know the full circumstances but can agree with a couple of other posters in that if someone isnt making an effort or doesnt deserve your friendship then move on and find people who do. I have spent so much time upset with a couple of people in the last year and felt like I had really tried with them and was getting nothing back at all but once you accept they just dont have it in them and move on it's so much easier......Dead wood move over! Sounds like you also have a lovely DH (thank god for them!) and baby on the way so count your blessings and then move on to people who deserve your friendship. Easier said than done but you will meet and make friends with lovely people who deserve what you can bring to the friendship. Good Luck x edited by sunglow on 12/03/2012

Nothing seems personal now with facebook...and those that keep taking about how busy they are seem to the ones with the most time to post how busy they are on facebook - befuddles me! I, on the other hand am just pleased with the valentines card I had from my cat today along with a flower stolen from next door's garden...such a clever little puss....althugh his spelling is appalling.....;-) Makes my sad sounding life (not posted on facebook as they'd probably send the men in white coats for me) a lot brighter today though! Happy Valentines day all!

Definitely the Park Hyatt Amara - lovely. Talise was a little disappointing last time as was the Westin but Park Hyatt really is lovely as is the One and Only Royal Mirage. Desert Palm also lovely but we've never had a couples massage there. Enjoy it!

I had a bad experience with them and actually got hold of their CEO who I traced on Linked in. He was fabulous and sorted the issue out swifty and was very apologetic. I am slightly over the voucher thing now though as there are so many and the deals just dont seem to be very exciting anymore. Good while it lasted I guess. Good luck with it!

Try the camping/outdoor shop on beach road. Sorry I dont know the name but it is practically opposite the new Sunset Strip Mall and it is behind a petrol station - you can see it at the back as you drive in. We get ours there for 35aed a box. We're going through a lot right now as having a chiminea fest! Good luck!

I agree Sue62...my DH used to have a habit of exploding and we soon learnt that it got him nowhere and now he follows my practice which is much a long the lines of deep breath and expect the worse, anything more is a bonus it would seem. Having been in the line of fire from customers for a long time I know the ones with the attitude I wanted to help and the ones I would really not. I absolutely love GoodMorning's quote "They are where they are because of the person they are. So you be the better person." I really do agree that It's very difficult over here sometimes with such poor service and the lack of customer care would try the patience of a saint but on the odd occasion I have lost it it has never made me feel any better about the situation so sadly I just shrug my shoulders and be thankful I'm not in their position. I also cant bear it when I see a fellow expat speaking to people badly - makes me cringe and actually makes me angrier than anything.

You sound as thought you are a very normal weight to me. People never cease to amaze me with their utter rudeness!! A year ago I was told that I had put a few pounds on (yes, I knew that I didnt really need telling!) then I lost weight and was told I was told endlessly that I was too thin and shouldnt go any further! I am now awaiting the next round of comments as I am currently undergoing treatment that means I will (and am doing so already) put weight on and to make it worse have been told not to exercise (I love my exercise). However, I just think that as long as I am healthy and happy and my hubby still adores me - he is so anti the whole body fixation thing thank god - then the rest of them can a) get a life and something else to concentrate on and b) Get lost! People can be very superficial and very hurtful and actually downright rude.

Oh dear MDL. My heart goes out to you! I totally agreed with your DH who says they are high maintenance. We dont have kids so I'm afraid I really can't answer your question but I can say I empathise. We too have had a constant stream for years and recently we have actually put our foot down. We had a friend stay with her boyfriend some weeks ago and I really felt like we were a hotel for them and it was apparent that they came to have a holiday and not to see us. They weren't even forthcoming to putting their hands in their pockets when we went out which is particulalry difficult when you have a generous DH like mine who just pays for everything. It just made me mad. Whilst they were here another friend contacted me to see if we were 'free' in February for her and her new boyfriend and I have said that we are closed for anyone but close family this year. I felt rotten saying it and she did even take the hint - she went onto say how much we would love him and we would hardly see them! Erm...no thanks - that sort of highlights that we are being used as a hotel. Eventually when I said it was a real no she was fine but I really resent how she handled it now as I felt terrible having to say no twice. It's so difficult when entertaining and working...not to mention the money spent and the pounds gained with all the eating out! I often wonder how popular we would be if we lived somewhere cold and miserable....;-)

I tried microdermabrasion a couple of times and it was painless and definitely made my skin feel fresher. However, I then went on and had a course of dermaroller sessions before my wedding and they made a real difference - I have never had so many comments/compliments on how great my skin looked. Beware though it can be painful and you do have a red face afterwards! It depends on exactly what you want to get out of it. I would say definitely try microdermabrasion but if you want to go a step further dermaroller is so worth the pain...no gain and all that...! In fact I'm off to book another session! Thanks for spurring me on. Good luck :-)

Have to agree that whilst it's nothing like you'd get in Europe it really is a lovely thing to do if you have a spare half hour or so and fancy a little Christmas Spirit and a mulled wine. We happened to be in the Madinat and decided to pop and see it and am really glad we did - it was even a little chilly so really put us in a festive mood.

oh my oh my - why are people so vile? Seems that people are odder over here than anywhere - and sadly the [b'>nearer 40 [/b'>they are the worse they are so perhaps it's a regression to childhood silliness? Lol. You sound like a lovely person and dont need someone like this in your life. I know it's upsetting (and I would feel and have felt the same over such silliness) but please try and rid this 'dead wood' from your life. What goes around comes around.....hugs. what has age got to do with anything ????? lol im 40 in April and hope i dont change!!!!! I'm already there so clearly no hope for me - lol! I was referring tongue in cheek the fact the OP referred to playground stuff happening with grown women :-)

We got back recently after a fabulous trip which was a delayed honeymoon. We flew to Joburg then onto PE and did an Elephant Safari tin Addo for a few days (amazing) then drove to knysna, then Hermanus then onto Franschoeck and Capetown. With your time I would recommend a night each in Knysna and Hermanus a couple of nights in the Wine region and then a few in Capetown. I have to say that we stayed in some beautiful independent places but the absolute highlight for us was a fairly new place in the Winelands.....it's calssed as Franschoeck but actually 20km outside and nearer Paarl and it's called Babylonstoren. Cottages on a farm and so classy and contemporary and the service and food was second to none. My hubbie wanted to move in and it's rare for him to rave about anywhere! If you do one thing, please try and stay here! SO jealous! Enjoy.x www.babylonstoren.com

Oh this is such a tough one! I may also have a similar dilemma next year....just when they think we will be home we may actually be going further away from them. However, whichever way you do it I am sure they will surprise you, after all every parent wants their offspring to be happy (no matter what their age!) Good Luck :-)

Hi We are having a small do this weekend and looking to see who can come and deliver some lovely canapes/hot finger buffet/Christmassy deserts etc. Always use Dish for this kind of thing at work but they can't help at such short notice (we have just realised have afar too hectic a week to organise!) - any suggestions? Hoping Lime Tree may be able to help but waiting to hear. Any other ideas would be very welcomed. Thanks!

Well given the fact that hubbie and I never watch TV and have god knows how many box sets lent from friends still gathering dust, we have found a new addiction in REVENGE....absolutely brilliant!
