SO glad you asked this question Hannah33 :) I am in the same boat and also wondering about the sheet/blanket situation at night....I assume just a tight sheet at night will be wrm enough when small due to safety issues with blankets? Feel very dumb asking this! Thanks!

Hi Kittykat So glad to see your post as I had originally suggested hugz then when I enquired in October they told me they didnt stock anymore so delighted that they seem to now. What colour did you go for in the end? Was it the wheat colour by any chance? Are you happy with it? xx

I have seen red, black, green and (I think) silver...I say I think as not sure if I saw that on-line or in store but pretty sure it was instore. There was a lady in there when we were last looking who bought it earlier in the year and she came over and told us we had to buy it and she thoroughly recommended it - great to know! Good luck with the scan....how far along are you? We are also waiting until after our big scan?! Good Luck!xx

Good to know TDB - thanks! Am guessing that the stroller system wouldn't be an awful lot more...... Torjetaylor - we have tried it lots of times in Just Kidding - both G&D Park and the SZR branch....think they know us personally now - a little embarrassing! Good Luck - please let me know when you order it....think we are also looking at Nov/Dec time. Not sure whether to just hang on and get in UK as will be travelling quite soon (I hope) after baby is born.

Hello. I am sold on the vista now. Have done so much research and also spoken to people here who have it who can't recommend it highly enough. Storage is apparently amazing and very similar weight etc to bugaboo. I also found a website that will ship from Europe at a good price and take tax off etc. Will try and repost details later. edited by sunglow on 14/09/2013

I get so angry when I hear these stories as it is my biggest bugbear about this town. What on earth happens to apparently 'normal' people when they get off the plane here?? From what I can tell they develop this complete air of superiority and the right to speak to people in the service industry in particular like dirt. I have, like SalsB, on many an occasion witnessed incredibly rude behaviour and actually commented. I do comfort myself with the thought though that when many of these people return to their home country (with a huge bump I suspect) they will get the shock of their lives........I so so hope so! An airborne virus attacks them. I cannot get over how aggressive people become in the car, in a restaurant, shop, ATM queue. I once witnessed a lady in a long ATM queue pick up the bags of the lady in front of her and throw them ( Yes throw) them behind her so she could move one step ahead in line, others that just push in and when you try to say something wave their hand at you, the list is endless. If I behaved that way at home I would be told to sod off or at worst probably slapped. And THAT is exactly what I hope will happen to them when they get home and try the same ridiculous up themselves behaviour - slap! lol!

Hello All I am after some help...we have guests coming for a week in June (I know not ideal re weather) and whilst I have stuff to occupy them in the day whilst we are working, I am looking for some ideas of places we can go in the evenings with them. They have 2 children aged 4 and 8 and I know that they like nice restaurants etc. However, am unsure where we can go with the children too. If anybody has any great ideas, please do let me know. If not, it could be a long week....;) I wish people would stick to the Winter visits...it makes things so much easier! Thanks

Went with Boardwalk. Took me almost an hour to get there because GPS had a nervous breakdown just as we were nearing the right area and had DD in the back whinging and whining and mum stressing and saying we should turn around and go home. FINALLY made it. Only to be told they don't do breakfast during the week so don't open till 12pm. This was a bit before 11! They suggested we try the restaurant at the gold club just past the Hyatt and was close to tears but went and it was LOVELY. Haven't been before but was such a nice setting. Even nicer than Boardwalk if memory serves. Thanks for all the suggestions ladies. Oh no! As you can probably tell I work so we are weekend breakfasters! So glad you tried the Golf Club though (think it's called Lake View or something) as that's another favourite and nearly suggested it but knew you wanted the sea. Glad you enjoyed and got there eventually.....sounds stressful!

I live in the Springs but still love to make that little extra effort and go to the Boardwalk in this weather. Just lovely. We do breakfast a lot as our 'thing' and can honestly say the worst experience recently was Barasti....great location but it stank of stale alcohol, terrible food and chewing gum under the table....couldnt get DH out quick enough. Enjoy your last few days with your mum :)

Beachcombers at JBH if you can get a table outside (although can get a bit busy with residents) or I also second the Boardwalk - really lovely this time of year.

Hubby and I make a point of doing breakfast every weekend and love More Cafe and The Farm (although it is hard to get into so book early). We also like Emirates Golf Club (buffet), the Boardwalk, Bunkers at Montgomerie and Organic Cafe - see I told you we are breakfast addicts! These are only a few on our list! A top tip is the Entertainer book as has many hotel buffet breakfasts......we recently did Meydan which was lovely as was Beachcombers although a little hectic. We've tried to like Jones the Grocer but find it very disappointing every time. I think we generally pay 100-150 depending on how long we linger with coffees! I love doing breakfast in this weather if we can sit outside and the Farm is gorgeous for that! Enjoy - looking forward to our weekend brekkie now! Yum yum :) edited by sunglow on 05/03/2013

I researched this quite a lot as have had some awful companies over the years here. I went from several recommendations on here for a company called FlyMovers. They were absolutely superb and so reasonable. We really could not fault them in anyway and were full of praise for them (which for my DH is VERY unusual). Professional from beginning to end and performed a miracle getting a particularly difficult piece of furniture upstairs! You can contact them on 050 9312914 (Ali). Thank you for the recommendation, I have contacted FlyMovers and will be using them this weekend I will let you know how it went Pleasure! Good luck! Dont be put off when they arrive in an unmarked truck and no uniforms because that means nothing.....IMHO it just goes to show the extra mark up (and less service) for a uniform and some branding. Hope the move goes well :)

Love them! Beware though - make sure your egate is valid. We made the mistake of letting ours slip and had the most horrific queuing when we returned back to T3. Excellent product and excellent service though IMHO and a lot more punctual than Emirates!

The white company has beautiful bedding goto their outlet in the outlet mall for better prices edited by Clairehdp on 28/01/2013 Wow! I didn't know they now had a place in the Outlet Mall. I second your comments though you can't beat the White Company in my opinion. I am a bit of a White Company addict but the quality of everything they sell tends to be great. I tend to buy our bedding in the sales as they have good discounts - will go to the Oultet Mall now though.

A short moan? What about exactly? Kids being kids? A few kids playing on skateboards? What should they be in a mall or sitting in front of mindless computer games instead? How on earth does a few kids playing (which is what kids do btw) become a class/money/wealth parenting issue? A few kids were seen 'hugging affectionately' and it's to be complained about? Seriously take note from the younger generation and get some fresh air and enjoy life! Here, here Lolacat! As someone (without kids) who visits that Spinneys a lot and knows exactly who the OP is talking about I have to defend them. They are causing NO harm and in fact a few weeks ago I dropped a 100aed note without knowing as I got out of my car and one of them actually ran up to me to give it to me. If only others could take note of this kind of behaviour. They are young people enjoying themselves and not sitting in front of a computer or xbox. Please let them be.

Hi brazilianindubai I can understand your feelings around that and yes, we do have to pop into the car to go to a shop or cafe. However, we have an incredible sense of community where we live and if anything it has made us quite broody (we dont have kids) as the little ones have a little play area and all the families seem to know each other and socialise. We are also lucky as we live near a community pool and I think you will find that to be a very good way of meeting people. Only last week, our neighbours were having a children's party and it seemed to be all the children from our street and surrounding streets and their families! When we lived in an apartment we didnt even know who are neighbours really were, however, now we can't even take the bin out or go in an out of the car without a chat with someone either next door or over the road or something. As for the view, in my opinion there is nothing nicer than looking out to our lovely garden with the doors thrown open (and hearing those birds!) I do hope it works out. I am sure you won't regret it. :)

Had 3 years in a company apartment with 3 small kids and hated it. Too on top of one another and kids climbing the walls unless you took them out. Love living 'on the ground' now in a villa. Shopping from car to kitchen is a breeze, no trolleys in lifts to hassle with. Sit outside with the birds (we are in AR) for morning coffee. Cant help with costs, it was a while ago now. Morning coffee with the birds - SO with you on that one! :)

Hi We moved to a villa from an apartment a few years ago and have never looked back. Admittedly we were in a villa prior to the apartment and absolutely hated apartment living as we loved having outdoor space etc and found it a lot quieter than our apartment. We also enjoyed not having to endure others cooking smells when we got into our corridor (although I think we were just unlucky in that respect). Depending on size of villa etc you will pay more in terms of DEWA etc and if you have a garden a few hundred a month to keep it maintained by a gardener. I am afraid I dont know the exact difference in cost of DEWA but we live in a larger 3 bedroomed springs villa and I think (sorry hubbie pays !) we pay around 2000aed a month. We have been in this villa for 2 years and have had no major maintenance issues. We made sure that the landlord covers those anyway when signing up. Not sure if we have just been lucky as I have heard horror stories re maintenance so be very careful. Good luck with making your choice. We absolutely love villa living and make the most our garden. We couldn't make the move back to an apartment now. In fact, tonight will be sitting outside with our chiminea on if it's nice and cold. :) We are moving to a similar villa next month and can't wait.

The attitude of people over here towards other human beings (and I say that as I so often think they forget to realise this fact) has appalled me from day one. I have witnessed such rudeness from fellow expats it disgusts me. However, I always think just one thing....Back in 2007 I had a 'friend' here and we went to the supermarket one day and she refused point blank to fill her own shopping bag - just one bag may I add. She did not work but her husband was on a lucrative contract here. Sadly for them he was made redundant and they left with a huge amount of debt. From what I hear, they have only just got on their feet back in the UK with a completley downgraded lifestyle than they had before they left let alone compared to here. The moral of this story is that whenever I witness this behaviour here now which I do all too often, I simply think to myself that we are just a contract away from a very very different life......people need to remember where they came from and that when they return the designer handbags and memories of champagne lifestyle will mean absolutely nothing. What does matter is how we live our lives and treat people no matter where we are or what our circumstances. edited by sunglow on 23/12/2012

Hello We did exactly this last year and I have the details of a great lady who helped us. She got the certificate attested for us and DHL'd it to us as they called a national Holiday whilst we were there which delayed things. My DH organised everything else but if we had to do it again (!! if you know what I mean!) we would go straight to her. Please do let me know if you need her number and I will dig it out. She even arranged a witness for our 'wedding' at the registry office ;) Was a great quickie option and the pictures in the Registry office are hilarious :) Let me know

Love the Springs. Having lived in the Arabian Ranches, the Palm and a brief stint in the Marina over the years this is our absolute favourite. It actually really annoys me when people bash it as if you find the right one - you do have to be mindful which one you are in like verdeque says - its is really great and has everything and having lived elsewhere i feel pretty qualified to comment. We are in Springs 4 and absolutely love it - going into our 3rd year. We don't have kids just a cat but the neighbourhood/community spirit is lovely as are the lakes near us. Good Luck with your move :)
