Congratulations! I also found my dress at home and sourced it here and was absolutely thrilled with it. It was more expensive buying it here but still not as expensive as having to fly home or messing about with shipping etc and all the risks that go with that plus I had regular fittings here. I had 6 months to plan my wedding and didnt actually choose the dress until 3 months before then a month for it to come in but all worked out really well in the end. Good luck - wish I could do it all again!:)

We also had a good experience and based on that I definitely would again.....everybody has diferent opinions on this and circumstances etc but I think if you can afford it then I also agree its a smart move.....lots of people will be quick to tell you different I'm sure but that just my opinion. I cant wait to be in a house I'm not renting anymore....Good Luck with it! :-)

I've given up trying to influence Hubbys choice or trying to figure out how he came to the conclusion I would like some of the things I've received over the years. Its not that he doesn't put thought into them its just that they can be so left field. Example he bought a piece of land (about 1meter sq)from an estate in Scotland that comes with a title "Lady" Yes thats right you are talking to Lady Highland Lass and I have the certificate to prove it! I did tell him in a very matter of fact way though that if he bought another Christmas charm for a Tiffany Bracelet I would throw the turkey at him. Little blue boxes should NOT contain Christmas trees!!! Love it! :-)

My hubby is great at gifts and does a good job throughout the year so I have made his promise that this year we will have a limit for just a couple of thoughtful stocking fillers and then splurge on an extra holiday throughout the year which we can both enjoy together. Travel is our passion and we both have everything we want and I hate the thought of wasting money just for the sake of it. I've still played it safe by demanding he keeps receipts nevertheless for anything he buys....;-)

Haha! The bar does tend to get watched quite closely though! It's one of the reasons my hubbie refuses to go and to the races.....just too messy (and quite embarrassing to watch at the end of the day/night) and nothing to do with the actual sport for most people there......!

I would second Dr Michael's. I am terrified of the dentist and they have completely turned me around. Treatment very good indeed although maybe a little pricey if not covered by health insurance. Dr Barbara at Dubai London Clinic in Jumeirah is a lovely doctor and very good indeed.

I have always been careful of my weight and have felt 'fat' despite being a size 12 at my biggest! It's crazy that it has eaten up (pardon the pun) so much time and energy from my life. I have dieted this year and am now at my lowest weight but have to exercise a lot to maintain it and to be honest it's not that much fun! However, I look at my sister who is beautiful and a plus size and after having struggled with her weight and worried for years embraced her curves and beauty and just got on with life. She jokingly calls me 'fatty' in a very playful way as she thinks I'm crazy! Ironically, when she stopped watching everything that went in her mouth or worrying about not excercising enough the weight is gradually coming off but what I am trying to say is that either way she is so glamorous and gorgeous and a lot less uptight about things than I am. My husband actually likes me with a little more meat and even asked me not to exercise last night. He made a good point about the food/exercise focus actually becoming a little bit of a 'bore' and restricting a lot of what we do! Having read 3 facebook posts already this morning with status updates about diets etc I know what he meant - it's boring and so much life is wasted obsessing about food and planning social lives around exercise (although granted some people DO enjoy it and it is a social element for them - just not for us) instead of enjoying life and living!! I'm not advocating an unhealthy lifestyle but I am saying that life is too short to be worrying about weight instead of living life to the full. Just try and eat healthily and become a little more active and if it works for you great! I cannot agree more with worried 123 who says her weight isnt who she is! Good Luck - I'm sure you're gorgeous inside and out either way!

A freind of a friend has contacted me as they are coming to Dubai for New Year and wondered where they should go in terms of hotels/events etc. We won't be here (and dont really know them anyway) but wondered if anyone could advise. We dont really like hotel kind of events so am not the best to advise them but I know they would like that kind of thing and dont think money will be too much of an issue for them. Thanks!

Dr Nirmala at Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital in Healthcare City. She carried out my surgery at medcare and I would highly recommend her. Good luck with it. Mine was Dermoid ovarian cyst which I was unaware of and I only came across her as I was an Emergency admission at the clinic she worked at at the time. She has since also performed another op for me successfully (not a cyst).

Hi. My husband hired one through Xclusive Yachts for my 40th earlier this year. I think I recall it being about 3500 - 4000 aed for 2 hours and we had an Entertainer voucher which gave us one extra hour free (you will have to check that) and it was really lovely. It didnt include any food but we took our own and they cooked it all for us and the service was very good indeed. They did provide soft drinks and they served us our own alcohol. I have heard a few horror stories about the voucher deals (Cobone I think) and didnt want to risk it. Enjoy!

We were at Festival City and decided to go to More Cafe for a coffee and sit on the terrace. WOW! We've been here a while and this was one of the best we've ever seen. Was a spectacular view over the Burj Khalifa and the SZR skyline - amazing colours. We felt very lucky to be where we were yesterday :)

Hi. Not sure what the quality will be like but I asked at the Plant Souq yesterday and they said probably about 4th December they would have them. My friend got a great one from Waitrose last year apparently in early December. I hope that helps. I'm after one too....can't wait!! :)

Agreee re the suite at the Hilton Resort and Spa and good old Le Meridien Al Aqah has always been a favourite. The Cove Rotana have villas and although not a favourite of mine, the facilities are great for kids and a lot of people do like it there.

How this made me smile! I remember feeling like you do on my 30th yet the last ten years have been the best so far and this year I turned 40 and wow what a year! Definitely the best yet and I feel and look (so I am told-so I have to get that in!) better and happier than ever. Cherish getting older and the confidence, experience and knowledge that comes with it. By far my older friends are the most glamorous and confident bunch I know and the ladies comments below just prove how great it is growing into yourself (so to speak!) Have a really lovely birthday :)

Hi. I did the Dukan religiously for my wedding and lost nearly 7kgs and was delighted (I didnt have an awful lot to lose either). I then went a little crazy after the wedding then loosely did it in the week only and have just been on honeymoon where I ate what I like although probably a little more disciplined re carbs than I would have been pre Dukan (although still ate a little bread and some sweet stuff and lots of wine) and in total have only gained 2kgs. I was excercising a lot up until the wedding and then dropped down to a few times a week and nothing for the last 3 weeks untl tonight (it killed me). All in all I would say Dukan is great as it does work and it re-educates your body. Please stick with it. I started the Attack again today as want to lose the 2kgs but I really do feel great. Good luck with it :-)

Much as I personally really hate eveything about networking it does really seem to help here. Linked in has been successful for a few friends of mine and have also had some very interesting approaches myself from people on there so would highly recommend in particular. Good Luck.

Never done a course but DH and I are both 'self taught' (well DH a bit of a fanatic so he taught me) desert drivers. Good Luck with it and trust me once you start you'll be addicted. I have never been into that kind of thing at all and absolutely love it - to the point I have ordered myself a Wrangler which I get at the weekend and cant wait to get into the desert again now the weathers good. BRILLIANT fun! Good luck:cool:

Coventry Tailors in Satwa - approx 200ish aed plus fabricI would say. Dreamgirls have a good reputation but in my experience overpriced and very overrated. Not sure if Ann Rashid who is at Montexa in Satwa (behind Dreamgirls) could also help. She specialises in wedding dresses but I wsa very happy with all my alterations she did to mine and saw some lovely things that had been done by her guys. Good luck!
