Check out how white this bollywood celeb is... in this pic she looks as fair as me - and I get my pasty complexion from my Irish heritage! http://www.indiamarks.com/top-10-googled-indian-bollywood-celebrities/ she is not indian national. Katrina Kaif is one of eight siblings, from a mother who is a Caucasian of British Nationality, and a father who was formerly from Kashmir, India edited by sunlight on 21/04/2014 Thanks for filling me in! Interesting that she figures in the main picture of an article on the top 10 googled 'Indian' celebs though... something Indian women would definitely aspire to emulate. True

Hi I agree edible arrangements are lovely - a friend once sent me one for my bday and I loved it :-). But if you're watching costs, it's actually easy to make small ones - just get some tooth picks, put 3 pieces of fruit on each (e.g. kiwi, strawberry and melon) and then prick them on half of an overturned melon. I did this at the weekend for my dd's party and it worked well. I got the idea from an Annabel Karmel book. Here are some pics of edible displays: https://www.google.com/search?q=creative+fruit+skewer+display&client=firefox-a&hs=KwE&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=mSRKU7SZGOaK0AX15IGADg&sqi=2&ved=0CDIQsAQ&biw=1366&bih=674 Good luck - it's not that difficult :-) yes ... and it will be hygienic as well.

no worries. you can manage easily. only one thing that we can miss in our children is street smartness. back home children live with big families, they can play with children after school. they can spend time with relatives & so on. but Dubai grown up children are very innocent, they are not as smart as back home. Actually, we found the opposite..we don't have a big family so when we go back home my son has no-one to play with whereas in Dubai he is always out and has lots of friends... you are lucky then. I have daughters and most of the time they spent at home.

i beg to differ with sunlight.. there are so many activities your kid can do after school that does not involve tv or tablets.. a lot of play groups.. saying "they are very innocent, they are not as smart as back home" is not true.. its my opinion :). they are innocent cause they don't know how to play with the words, how to smell the danger very quickly, what the real meaning of someone talking. may be cleverness is the right word. sorry for my broken english LOL

Really sick of buying tampered products, its only a few dirhams product I threw in the bin, but now have to go out again for more toothpaste! ( I hear you. I learned the hard way about tampered products when I bought a pack of tampons only to discover that a quarter were missing! What the ...?! That's why I always take a pack from the back of the shelves and squeeze the box to make sure it's full. What is also worrisome is that I can't imagine some poor woman (or staff member) being that desperate that she has to steal from the box rather than just purchase the goods to sort herself out. What gets me is that back home, these boxes -- being 'sanitary products' -- would have a proper wide sticky seal on them so they couldn't be opened/touched, but out here, that doesn't seem to be the case. Annoying and ... unsettling as well. :( edited by LadyBee on 06/04/2014 Yes agree about the need for proper seals on products, tampering is rampant here. And watch out for lipsticks too, so many times I have bought lipsticks that appear sealed with a bit of sticky tape around the tube and found them used. It has happened three times in Boots and several times in Lifestyle and Beauty Bay too recently and there is no exchange on cosmetics. Now I only buy lipsticks with proper factory perforated seals. edited by Di@DXB on 06/04/2014 I have seen the assistants in the Lifestyle shop take the sticky tape off lipstick, let the customer try it and when the customer doesn't want it, put some sticky tape back on and return it to the shelf. Yuk, Yuk edited by Ladybirdsarethebest on 07/04/2014 disgusting

I don't think birthdays should be celebrated in school, there is enough time wasted in school anyway. No school kids needs extra donuts in school. Celebrate at home or do a birthday party after school. With 24 kids in the class, its adding up on time missed from teaching and donut munching. that's why we are giving them goodie bags & distributing the goodie bags will not take much time.

send in party bags. that's what I do.. I put pencils, erasers, stickers, lego for the boys and hair clips and stuff for the girls. No sweets. My child is in an allergy class as he has a food allergy too therefore we dont send any food items. The party bags work a treat. Same way but I include good quality chocolates as well in goodie bags to take home.

it really depends on what you want your maid to do when she is here .. ie do you have dogs ? does she need to walk the dog everyday .. if so what is she like around animals ? do you need her for child care.. if so has she worked with children before and what ages ? thanks mushypeas, I don't have pets. it is mostly cleaning & taking care of kids after school.

Yes, try Cebu Pacific but according to their website, they will be operating out of Sharjah Airport from May to July due to runway closures in Dubai. Don't know if that would be an issue. Yes I also checked. its not a big deal :)

I met one lady with a sort of velvet looking abaya, with dimontes around the sleeves and down the front, it looked very lovely, very nice quality, and she said 150-, from a Sharjah store, near Lulus. I had one sent from Sharjah, a shop called Burj Al Arab, lol, with amazing embroidery and matching scarf, it cost 250-, and made to measure off another of my abayas. Avoid malls, as the rents are high and the rent cost comes to you. edited by AmyAus82 on 09/03/2014 there are many Lulus lol... I think it is near old souq area.

Sharjah. Dubai abayas are much more expensive. A plain black in Dubai will cost around 300-. In Sharjah for 300-, you can get it with designs. A, say, C4/Co-op abaya can be around 200- in Dubai, and the quality is very bad. No Amy I tried Sharjah as well. in Mega mall (not super market, talking about 2nd floor)a plain simple abaya is 300 aed. I dont like abaya material of C4/ Co-op OR Blue souq.

sorry to hijack the thread. my friend lives in Ajman & her daughter is 6 years old and very loving child. she understands everything & can do / follow every steps. only problem she is facing is speech, only few words she can speak. does anybody know any mainstream school in Ajman / Sharjah can accept her. she is very loving child. Sharjah ministry of education is also giving exception for her age to get admission in the school. Ministry of education also wants to send her in mainstream schools because she is just like a normal child. my friend doesn't want to send her special needs schools. as right now she is learning/copying from normal people. if she sends her to special needs, she will start doing same like special children. edited by sunlight on 04/03/2014

I heard about wifi Repeater is the solution. it is priced around 179 AED from Etisalat. never used but I am also facing same problem. downstairs very weak signals in living room only, & yes non existent in maid room.
