Marhaba diamond service is worth it and costs AED150. They will collect her from the plane door. It's a big airport so I would not to do anything else for a young or old person. They will stay with her until you collect her and if you are late they will stay with her in the Marhaba lounge. They will get your contact number from your reg form so will call you if need be. All worth it for the peace of mind I would say. Have used them a few times for my folks. They know the airport pretty well by now but sometimes just fast tracking through the lines at customs is worth the 150! <em>edited by SweetSugar123 on 18/04/2012</em>

Thanks October. Problem for me is that I'm not home when they come in the morning so he's clearly taking advantage of that. I was home at 8am this morning when he arrived and when I called at 8.20 to remind him of something I reminded him of for the past 3 weeks the maid said he had already left 5 mins ago!

Only ever got DM curtains and never been disappointed. In fact they are better than some of the store bought ones. Home Centre is renowned for having curtains that are not all the same length and they frown upon you opening the packs up in the shop to check. That was a while back though and have since only gone to DM. Be caefult though, not all of them stitches neatly. I usually get mine at Zhongdi's.

Fay, I think we are employing the same company! Lots of promises at the beginning etc etc etc.... :( Hopefully I will get some recommendations for good ones on here even though, yes I agree, 99% are bad...

A lot of ladies on here have recently recommended Sani Serve. Will be getting them out for a quote too as I can actually get a mouldy whiff when switching our a/c on :( Let's hope that doesn't push up their price though :\:

8.30-4.30 officially but I put in extra hours at home. Happy to do that as I can do it after kids have gone to bed and I got a few hours of time with them as I get home just before 5pm.

Loube, if you are in the lakes/springs/meadows area, do you mind sharing your garderners details please? I think it's time for a change!

Can you get anything at all done in 15 minutes?:\: My thoughts exactly....

Thanks loube. It started out about 45mins, then 30mins and has slowly gone less and less. For me it's not necessarily the quantity but quality, like I said, I could not see any difference in the garden, even the cleaning was not done properly. Therefore wondering if a "normal" session to do what should be done can indeed be done in only 15 mins?

Does your gardener spend in your garden in a session? Today mine spent 15 minutes and there was no difference. Garden dying and certainly does not look like we have a gardener! Currently using a company but am wondering do the random ones on the bicycles usually provide everything as well like the companies do or do you have to purchase things yourself and they just do the labor? And can anyone pretty please recommend a gardener in the Lakes area? TIA!

A bit off the topic but as disgusting..what is with burping out loud? Is that a cultural thing too? We have a manager in our office, who seems decent enough in every way, that burps out loud and you can hear it in the corridor sometimes :\: He has done it a few times when the team went out for lunch too. He doesn't seem to think there's anything wrong with that but of course others does and I have seen people eye rolling or just looking down. Is this a personal thing or really cultural?

If you can at all, I would go home to have the baby and only return once all the paperwork has been sorted out. It is best if he is not born in Dubai while you are unmarried. Good luck.

I have the demo machine and get the rolls to print the names on from most stationery stores. They don't stick to well to fabric though but is great for plastic like lunch boxes, bottles etc. They don't wash off, in fact I have difficulty peeling them off sometimes. For the fabric (uniforms, hats etc), I use the Zaks ones, works a treat.

Difficult one. If it was me I would probably involve the police as it is the right thing to do. Actions have consequences and I am sure she knew that when she decided to steal the money. Sad but fact of life...

Thanks NIP and AP. We have places at both, therein lies the problem. Just want to be sure we make the best choice for DD. I have also seen good reviews about both but am sure one must be better than the other so trying to get feedback as to which one....hmm...hope that makes sense! Anyone else? Thanks!!

Mine looks after my two kids too and doesn't use her phone to receive or make private calls during working hours (that is a non negotaible rule), although she does have the phone on her at all times so I can get hold of her at any time (while I am at work). If yours cant be trusted to do as you ask and you don't need her to have the phone on her while working then I would take it from her. Anything can happen while she is tending to a call and your kids should be her number one priority while in her care. <em>edited by SweetSugar123 on 07/04/2012</em>

As long as you are doing right by your family, who cares what anyone else says? Working mom here and proud of it. Mrs Bing, hope you get sorted. I also have a full time maid and thank God she loves my kids, so keep trying if that could be a possibility for you.

It could also be Nukhet? She is very well known and lives in the Springs. I think her company's nuku's cakes and cookies. Google her. Have now ordered both DD and DS's birthday cakes from her and will continue to do so for as long as she is in Dubai. She's amazing, talented and the cakes are too die for.

Our PRO pointed me me to this. See the last point under Expiry and Cancellation of UAE residence visa. http://www.dubaifaqs.com/visa-residence-dubai.php In any event as mentioned, check with DRND yourself as well.

No, the sponsor has to be in the country for cancellation. She can be out of the country, but you cannot. . I don't necessarily think that is the case. We've had our driver cancel visas for us, and all he took was copies of dh's passport and visa down there. Certainly to transfer, you don't need to be here as we took our new maid from another family and they didn't need to do anything to release her but write NOC and give passport copy. Two of our employees who were transferred overseas could cancel their family visas while the families were already outside of Dubai however as their sponsors they were advised they needed to be in Dubai to do the cancellation. Best bet is to verify yourself with DRND....I hope you get a different story from them tdale as I know it can be a pain but that's what we got as recent as February.

Don't wash it. If you keep it for the 3 days the results will be better and the treatment will last longer in your hair. I have sometimes kept it in for longer than 3 days and the results were better, so basically the longer you leave it on, the better the result. Also, if you want the effect to be even better, you should flat iron your hair every day until you wash it. That will also seal the product into the hair more so better results.

From past experience, I wish I could say it will improve but it usually does not. So frustrating! :( I think they either have it or they don't, seriously! My ex-boss always used to say, you can't teach someone to blow their nose, their mother should have done it. So I guess, initiative, attention to detail is either lacking or it's not. Others may have had better experiences but I found if I was telling them each and everything from the beginning, I was left telling them throughout their employment. Good luck, really, I know how it feels!! ;)

Can't get it to work. Keeps saying 'no 3 bedroom villas found' - er right I happen to live in one. Thanks for posting the link Emlsnre, I was also looking for it for a while. Chocs, I emailed them, it's apparently not showing because the data has not been updated yet. They said it will only show end of May, so be sure to check back then.

I have never had any issues with them or Cobone, both delivery or trying to get bookings/appointments with the service providers. I have on occasion called the places first, made a booking and then called back with the voucher number once I have received it. If I get bad service when trying to make a booking with a voucher, I usually don't get the deal. Groupon on the other hand...hmmm...not overly impressed with both the quality of the goods and delivery time. HTH.

Hi, there is a little shopping centre called Turtle Village just a few mins walk from the hotel. There are restaurants there, not many but they are reasonably priced. There is also a mini supermarket. The hotel is pure bliss, best hotel we ever stayed in so much so that we are going back later this year. However, it is a distance from phuket town etc so we are staying at the laguna at the beginning of our vacation to be closer to "everything" and ending it off with a week at the JW, cant wait. I am sure you will enjoy it there. The service is second to none. Enjoy!!

Are you staying in Cape Town? We drove along the Garden Route from CT to the Bushman Sands' game reserve (next to Shamwari) - it was fantastic but it's a very long drive and if you're short on time it will be difficult to savour the route it as it deserves! Friends who live in South Africa suggested we could have gone to the Garden Route game reserve as it's much closer to CT. Might be worth Googling it if you're staying in CT anyway? Enjoy. It's a beautiful country. is it safe to drive yourselves as we want to do this too ? many thanks. Fairwater it is safe and the driving is not nearly as crazy as Dubai. As in all places you need to be careful and alert but no reasons as to why you should not drive yourself. Gives you more freedom and as someone mentioned, it is very economical. Enjoy.

We are in the beginning stages of hiring a live-in maid for the first time. It's very uncommon in the USA, but we have been excited to try it out .. how long 'til I feel comfortable having someone living in my house? I'm kind of freaking out! You will get used to it. If your maid is more of a benefit than a burden then it will outweigh the sacrifice you make. You also have your alone time at night and on her days off. I suppose its easier if you are not home all day while she is around so if you are a SAHM it may be more difficult.

Well even though nobody talked about selling code, I just thought that I would mention it, as giving away the special code, that is intended for special clients defeats the whole object of the flash club....besides the fact that they actually pick who gets it, and they are not only flash club members..... and as for re-selling the tickets, there is no law on that here, if you own it then you can sell it (assuming that you are licensed to do so....lol)...so sharing code/ re-selling tickets....its all the same.....unethical but easily done. Unethical? Pot calling the kettle black? Please think before you type.WHat? I didn't sell/share the code or resell tickets. Just said that it is the same thing. I recall a C4 thread re meat. Suggest you be careful who you call unethical as I certainly do not take kindly to that. End of this discusison, for me anyway.

There are some excellent costumes online and for a third of the Dubai price. I bought DD's online via shop and ship and she looked smashing as it's so different to the usual ones (that's more Disney than book character) here in Dubai. She got lots of compliments :)

Love Mirdif. Lived there for 6 years. Only moved to be closer to work. If your office is close by and the schools your kids attend are close by, you rarely have to venture very far out as you basically have everything on your door step especially with MCC there. It's a nice community in spite of the noise but as others mentioned there are certain parts where you won't hear it. Also value for money is not be underestimated, the villas are lovely and spacious.

The offices at the airports in both terminals 1 and 3 are open at all times. Try to call them to confirm.
