In Switzerland if I was spending any sort of time outside in winter (even without snow) I was always using my snowshoeing shoes which are basically warm walking shoes. Not sure if they sell them here but if not then in the UK I used to wear a pair of Caterpillar boots with thick socks or 2 pairs of socks. Caterpillar boots are not usually lined. I never slipped on the wet snow with those ;)

We have a Weber too. I think they are good quality and I like coal better too! Just love the smell, for me the gas ones are not the real deal. My mum has a gas one and they are def practical: no need to put them on quite so early, easier to control the temp etc. The prices will depend on the size you want...

Love Actually and already watched it once this month... will wait until December to watch it again. Otherwise I love watching any version of A Christmas Carol that might be on TV around 24th (incl. Mickey version ;) ) And not really a move but it wouldn't be Christmas without a Dr Who Christmas Special except this year we will be in Switzerland so not sure we'll be able to watch it at my mum's!

Do you need to translate everything including the list of ingredients? Here the actual recipe: Pre-heat the oven 200C Seperate the whites from the yolks Beat the yolks with the sugar until you get a homogeneous mix Beat the whites Melt the butter with the chocolate and the coffee Add the other two mix together in the mould bake for 15 mins The centre should still be runny Let me know if you need the ingredients as well Sorry not perfect but hope it makes sense edited by Swiss Sandy on 17/11/2011

Big fan of Lego here. Duplo is for younger children but my niece was around 2 weeks ago and she loved building towers and houses. She is only five so still within age range but at home she has Playmobiles. I think the main difference is Duplo/Lego the child uses his/her imagination to build things and then play with them whereas Playmobil is a bit more of play without the building thing. Each child is different and some will love the building side of things whilst other couldn't care less.... We started DS on wooden blocks and since he loved stacking them up got him some Duplos to stack up too...

I read that whilst having lunch and nearly spat my food out in surprise! Imagine the shops having to wash the clothes each time somebody tries them! I also wash new clothes before wearing them unless they are dry clean only but then nowadays I rarely buy stuff that is dry clean only...

I don't know how they can justify such a huge difference in price! Especially when their customer service is so appaling compare to Switzerland! They cancelled my order last time just because they tried calling me twice and I didn't answer the phone.... (was doing an art class with DS) and didn't send me an email to tell me!! EFisher replied : i am looking for a well price coffee machine and heard these are good - worth getting? If so where do i buy one from? Thanks ladies I think the machine and the system is very good if a bit pricey and DH loves the different coffees (don't drink the stuff myself)

I would also recommend to stay in South Kensington. When you arrive at Heathrow you jump on the Tube (I'm sure your DS will love that). There are lots of hotels along Cromwell Road (nearest tube is Gloucester Road) and then you could walk to the museum from there. Natural History will def take you the rest of the afternoon or you could spend the whole of the next day there instead. If you want to see the sights the best way in such a short time is def the Big Bus tour. For eating with you LO I would recommand Pizza Express or the Giraffe (there is one on Ken High St) and both have website with their locations HTH

My mum has just had to have her hernia operated on and it was really straight forward. The doc told her there was no 2 ways about it so just go ahead and do it. DS had surgery in September (he was only 20 month old at the time) and everything was fine, the surgery went all according to plan. It wasn't hernia though but just trying to send you good vibes as I know how hard it is!

Loved Prague and Salzburg! I don't know much about Germany but if you do it first the Christmas markets will still be on and I heard Munich is quite nice. Have look at this for inspiration on Christmas markets: http://www.wanderlust.co.uk/planatrip/inspire-me/lists/top-christmas-markets You can easily go by train from Munich to other parts of Europe, try this website to help you www.seat61.com If you want to visit Switzerland as well you could go to St Moritz which is not far from Austria/Munich and should look very chrismassy in December. - Contact lens products (can never find them here and if I ask for them, I usually get a blank look) - Contact lenses (as I'm blind as a bat) - Nescafé Frappé (it's not even in the supermarket back home, have to go to the Nestlé shop) - Magazines (in French and English) - White tea for DH - DVDs With all the pressies DS gets each time, I usually struggle to close my suitcase! ;) I get white tea with pomegranate in Almaya in the Marina, I haven't seen plain white tea though if that is what you need. Also sorry if this is a stupid question but which contact lense producta do you struggle to get here? I get lenses and solution without a problem. The only thing I can't get is the type of holder I like for them - I can only get the flat ones and not the cylindrical ones, I have to get my Mum to send me her spares! DH also found white tea with mandarin but he prefers the plain one. My lens problem is basically because my eye sight is bad and not all places seem to have gas permeable lenses here. Also I know the products can be find (I use Boston) but rather than hunt around for them I buy them home! As for the cases DH gets them from me in the UK but only coz they are cheaper :) Ah fair enough - I just get bog standard contacts so I'm not too fussy about brands. Can you actually get those cases here then? No opticians ever seem to know what I'm talking about when I ask them! I would check pharmacies and places like Boots as well but I'm not sure as I don't look for them anymore, sorry!

We are in the Lakes and use Marhaba Flowers, I don't know if they send gardeners to the Springs but might be worth a call 0 4 2 2 8 3 3 0 1 We have the same gardener every day and so far he didn't kill any plants. He has even replaced the ones that died through no fault of his! HTH ETA to correct the phone number as I'm obviously a bit dislexic today. edited by Swiss Sandy on 02/11/2011

Last week end we went with our visitors to Hatta and had our picnic at Hill Park in Hatta itself rather than the pools. The park has shaded picnic areas with bbq pits and a shaded play area. It was very quiet last week end but not sure how it will be during Eid. After the picnic we drove to the pools. This also means the drive was in 2 parts so less long if you have little ones.

(insert charcter name) - you know the theme tune of you LOs' favourite programmes and find yourself singing to them as you cook dinner. - you know the words and dance move of all sort of children songs and can do them even half asleep. - you hum any of aformentionned songs in the shower ;)

According to my trusted Lonely Planet map (and vaguely remembering from my Big Bus tour) there are at least 3 car parks near the fish market. From there you can walk to the Gold and the Spice souks. I think there is also a metro station not too far but not sure where exactly, best check the RTA website.

There's also an Easy Hotel near the North Circular. I've never used them but they work on the same principle as Easy Jet (low cost airline). Also check hotels a bit further from the city centre as they are cheaper but so long as they are close to an underground station it should not prevent you from seeing the sights just bear in mind there is no public transport on Xmas day.

DS never watched much TV until he was about 14 month old but now I record things on JimJam and Cbeebies for him. The recording means it's A. cheaper than buying DVD, B. I can decide when he watches it (rather than the TV channel) and C. I can decide what he watches. His favourite programmes at the mo (he's 21 months now) are Balamory, Kipper and Bob the Builder. He also likes Thomas the Tank Engine
