But if he was fine on the organic milk it could be related to the fact it's not organic...if the Rachel's milk was fine...?still going lactose free for a wee while wouldn't hurt either.

Hi there....when we moved to cows milk I only ever bought organic full cream milk. It is expensive but I'd rather cut back in other areas to be honest. My DS only has about 250 mls a day though, a litre is a lot...perhaps give him more water/less milk? You could try the organic UHT in the organic store which is cheaper as well perhaps....I have friends that do this. If your son is vomiting with the almarai I'm not sure boiling would help and it would be such a hassle! Perhaps some other ladies might be able to give you some advice with other non organic milks.

TaraK we have the avent video monitor which we got on sale at the time. There are probably others with more features but it was fine for us and our apartment. And I agree with flydiver, they are the best! I love seeing my bub sleep and all the strange positions he gets into lol. Kiwis....no intention of cutting though I did a few snips recently to get it out of his eyes!

Glad I bought - video monitor....my favourite gadget by far. - bugaboo pram...still using it at 16 months....I find it super comfy for DS and easy to use - humidifier for bubs room....helped with snuffles and provided great white noise....we still use it - Ikea antilop high chair....so easy to clean and cheap as chips! Things I didn't use much - bumbo...DS didn't fit in it for long and never looked that comfortable - Pottery Barn playmat...my DS found it boring even a a young age and I spent more time trying to get our cat off it - little baby hats...we never used these, especially since DS had such thick hair

Would highly recommend the Institute of Intergrative Nutrition. Based out of NYC but is done online and via lectures on an iPad....really brilliant with fantastic lecturers and a great marketing side of the course too. I did it last year but then got waylaid by having a baby lol. Just google integrative nutrition.

Also make sure you rinse quinoa well. It's also tasty if u then toast it in the pan until you get a toasty smell going before you add the water to cook like rice.

Wish my hubby could cook lol. I do a quinoa salad with canned chickpeas, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, mint and parsley and lemon juice which is delicious with haloumi cheese or some lamb meatballs....also do another salad with different roasted veggies - fennel, pumpkin, capsicum, onions and garlic....also with fresh herbs thrown in. Quinoa is yummo!

It is really good stuff...if you can get someone to bring it in definitely do. My friend brought back loads at the time with no issues. She is not in Dubai at the moment otherwise I'd have asked her if she has any left for you but it was over a year ago now. edited by sydneygal on 04/09/2012

Hi golden brown. I've seen a few of your posts asking about colic calm....a friend of mine gave me a bottle when ds was little and it was great. He only had mild gas but it definitely helped and it really helped my friends little girl who had terrible colic the first three months. Unfortunately I don't have any left, perhaps you can see if anyone is coming back from overseas who could bring you a bottle? I know the poster M ordered some in a while back so maybe put a post out for her and she could tell u how she sourced it? It sounds like you are following your instinct which is often the best thing to do. At one point I had ds on reflux meds which also did nothing as reflux wasn't the problem....so I took him off too. Do you do any baby massage? That can help with trapped wind too. Best of luck and hope u can get some colic calm!

F - my preference without a doubt is the ergo. I found the baby born painful on my back and the different cloth slings too faffy...plus they never felt as secure to me ... Ds was and is a big boy and the ergo takes a lot of the weight onto your hips which I found more comfortable. I recently used my ergo going to the Uk with my 12kg, 15 month old DS and had him on my back and he loved it.

My ds always started to protest cry or just play whenever a change was needed with nap timings. Often moving back half an hour would do the trick and he'd go right to sleep. However when he started to refuse a ten am nap I decided to try and cut it out....I kept trying for a while and sometimes he would sleep and sometimes not and when it was more often not I stopped putting him down. He used to do 30-45 min in the morning and two hours in the afternoon but I moved the afternoon nap back an hour and he started doing three hours here instead. This started at around 14 months. Hope that helps!

thanks ladies. I'm in the UK at the moment for the next few weeks which is why I initially thought about buying a car seat here for Oz (we have a Maxi Cosi Pearl in Dubai). We bought the CARES safety harness for the plane coming over here and that worked fairly well so we'll probably just hire a car seat when we go to Oz at Xmas. Sparkly, thanks for the offer, we'll have a think about it - how much are u selling for? Last time we went to Oz we hired a seat which was fairly cheap (he was only tiny then so fit in the bassinet) so we might just do that again this time too now that we have the harness.

this is what is written online too. Maybe I'm reading wrong but it does seem to imply that children 6-36 months must be in car seat: Infants 0-2 years Tickets for infants travelling on the parent’s lap or in a bassinet are discounted from the full adult fare. When booking online, a request for a bassinet can be made in the Passenger Details section. Children in car seats (6-36 months)* Children between 6-36 months may travel on board in car seats as long as a separate seat is purchased for the child. During takeoff and landing, however, the child must be held and restrained by the parent until the aircraft has reached cruising altitude.

thanks Skykitty. I wish I had asked on here earlier, it was in fact the guy we booked the tickets with at the Emirates office on the beach road that told us we had to have him on our laps if we didn't have the car seat (being under 2) :( Otherwise we definitely would have bought the seat at the time. Will talk to DH tonight, might not be too late to see if we can buy another seat...

thanks for all the comments ladies. Just so I'm clear, I have no intention of leaving DS on the floor or having him sleep on the floor or letting him run up and down the aisles - I just wanted to know if occasionally he could sit and play or stand there....he's quite a well behaved 14 month old and doesn't tend to "run amok" generally. We HAD planned to get the extra seat but at the last minute the friend whose airline approved car seat we were going to borrow fell through (literally the morning we went to book tickets) so we didn't book the seat thinking he wouldn't be allowed to sit it in anyway without a car seat. Obviously if I had known about the CARES harness earlier I would have bought it and the seat, however we are now only a few days away from travelling. I'm trying to get my hands on a harness on the off chance that there is a spare seat somewhere. And as flydiver said, we are still paying for him to sit on our laps, at the time we didn't think it would be worth spending almost an adults fare on a seat he technically wouldn't be allowed to sit in (as he is under 2) without the car seat. Thanks to those who have wished us luck - am sure we'll need it and hopefully DS will be fine. Flydiver - what a sad story...and so true, you should never judge a book by it's cover.

Thanks Skykitty - when you say he's not allowed on the floor... is that at all times, not even to sit and play? Or do you mean he's not allowed to sleep on the floor/be on the floor when seatbelt signs are turned on?

are you sure you had it on correctly? Not sure how big your little one is but there is an infant insert too if it is still too big...I found the Ergo the most comfortable, especially with my DS who was on the heavier side. I do have a second hand Baby Bjorn (was my sisters) which you are welcome to try and have for free if you like (I'm in JBR, going overseas on Thursday) as well as some cloth slings...If you want to try the Ergo again with someone to help you fit it properly I'd be happy to show you as well. edited by sydneygal on 21/07/2012

thanks for the feedback flydiver (and well done for travelling on your own!!)...we may not even get the spare seat to try it out anyway. Things are totally different when they are walking (or running as you say!)....I'm hoping the inflight entertainment and new toys I'm packing will keep him entertained....he is always mesmerised by a screen (so much so that when we're at a soft play and there's a TV on I go and sneakily turn it off so he won't just sit and watch it!) so fingers crossed. He's also very much a people person and will prob spend most of his time playing peekaboo and flirting with all the ladies on board LOL! I am VERY glad DH is travelling with me. Should we get a spare seat and use the harness I'll report back on how things went.

cheekymonkey - u are right, we don't have a seat :( We were going to buy one and borrow a friends car seat (she was going to use ours) but that fell through as her car doesn't take isofix so couldn't use our seat, so at the time we didn't buy a seat because we didn't think there was another option. We're flying to the UK.....I know other friends who have done it, and DS is only 14 months old but I do wish now that we had bought the seat!!

If you're happy for your little one to have some cake just offer a small bit - if he's not interested it's not a bad thing!

The woombies are fantastic. I'd definitely recommend the convertible version so you can have the option to have arms out....they make great sleeping bags with the arms out later on too. The woombies were even fine when he started to roll over as they were stretchy enough for him to kind of have his arms out tucked out on either side if you know what i mean, plus he had a super strong neck. They do say to stop swaddling when they roll over, but I just kept an eye on him through the video monitor and soon after got his arms out anyway and he then switched to mainly tummy sleeping! hope you can get some, they really are great :)

Hiya....we had DS swaddled until almost 6 months! The miracle swaddle blankets from Mothercare are good for little houdinis! We ended up using woombies (from Oz) which are like sleepsuits they get zipped into with arms in, with the option to take arms out later. I think I'd use these from the beginning next time, so much easier, but unfortunately not available here.

hey flydiver - it's the pits when they don't sleep isn't it!! It must be to do with the time change and travel I'd say....we are off the UK in a few weeks time so I'm sure I'll have similar issues to deal with too! The dirty nappy is strange though, maybe avoid any fruit etc later in the day to see if that makes a difference? His body clock must be out of whack a bit but will hopefully settle. Travel to Oz is hard too - we did that when DS was 4 months old and it was a nightmare, but to be fair he was a nightmare sleepwise at that age anyway so it probably didn't make that much of a difference... We brought him outside last night as a diversion instead of just lying down with him, to change the pattern....definitely won't be continuing it! Who knows what tonight will bring, we shall see.... Keep repeating - "this too shall pass"..... hugs

thanks Nicole. Well last night shortly after I posted he woke up and was standing there with his arms out yelling (we have a vid monitor). So we changed tactic and went to him but brought him out to the living room instead (dimmed lights etc). He thought all his Xmas' had come at once and was so happy to be with mum and dad and was perfectly fine and happy (no fever etc). So we kept him up for half an hour, gave him some more milk then went to bring him in...He went off to sleep but was awake in ten mins as if he realised he'd been duped and started up again! As we knew he was fine, we left him for 10 min, then we did 2 45 shifts (one each) with us giving him cuddles etc, then settling him in the cot and lying on the floor beside him to comfort him without actually sleeping with him. He slept finally and then woke again a few times but these times within 5 mins went back to sleep by himself....phew!! Today he is full of beans :) Hoping tonight is back to normal, we shall see. It's so hard when they don't sleep, I don't envy you doing it on your own - kudos to you!!

Hi ladies, So DS is a few days short of 14 months old and is normally a brilliant sleeper - 12 hours at night and 2 naps totalling 3 hours during the day, all self settling. In the past week and a half he's been quite ill following his chickenpox vaccine with high fevers and a bout of tonsilitis. We never leave him to cry if he's sick and for the past week or so have been sleeping with him (in a bed in his room) because his fevers would keep spiking and because he was so distressed :( However...he is on the mend now and is starting to have major crying tantrums that only stop when we give in and put him in the bed with us. We've tried patting and shushing and he seems asleep and just when we tentatively try and move away, he's up on his feet getting hysterical again! Ahhhh!! Hubby and I are soooo tired, he is NOT easy to co-sleep with either as he moves all over the place and it's not something we want to do ongoing, but we felt we had no other option when he was really sick and needed to keep an eye on his fevers. Any advice? Anyone been through this after an illness? :(
