AJ is pretty central, he'll be fine in any area but I would stay north of Salwa Rd and would personally choose West Bay.

Congrats TDB! I flew to Australia at 26 weeks with my first and won't be repeating that experience!! The other thing that I'm surprised noone else has pointed out is you will be travelling with a 15 month old - 33 weeks pregnant and a 15 month old sounds like a recipe for disaster to me!! I would bring it forward to November or wait until baby 2 is at least 4 months old (and has had 2 lots of vaccines).

If you're on any prescription medication it may be worthwhile checking they are available here - although many items which require a prescription in UK/Aust do not require one here! Also remember not to pack anything containing codeine, which is a banned substance.

Apparently it's all the schools (except ASD, which went back a while ago), due to an SEC directive to coordinate holidays.

We went to Lily Beach, Maldives, based on recommendations from here, and absolutely loved it! Not overrun with kids but still kid-friendly, all inclusive food & drinks (great cocktails!!). 20 mins by sea plane from Male.

Movies are censored. Violence is fine but kissing is not. A friend noted that Calendar Girls, of all movies, had been censored when on tv recently!! TV shows are also censored - for example Masterchef silences the words "p0rk" or "p1g", while we noticed some bedroom a scenes in US PG-rated sitcoms had been cut. As for news you can get BBC, CNN etc and don't forget Al Jazeera is based in Doha.

Hardest thing - the driving!! Best thing - career opportunity for DH with relatively good working hours so plenty of time for us as a family. Have also made some great friendships which will survive the expat experience :)

You could try Ghanem Gardens near Megamart or there are some Bilal ones on the other side of Ramada junction, behind the Nissan dealer.

The gym in Beverly Hills Tower (B/Attitude?) used to have Zumba classes you can just pay for. Yama Yoga also run classes during the day (check out their website). It would also be worthwhile checking out Aspire.

Internet speed is generally ok if you live in an area with fibre. Think we usually get around 10mbps now - although there is no fibre yet in West Bay and we only used to get 1-2mbps there. Most areas are now connected (although getting it turned on is a saga for another thread), here is the map showing where it is available. I saw on FB that the CAT Team phone lines are down, so please keep trying! Do you have a spare bathroom you could put them in? All mum will need is some food and water, and an old towel or blanket would be nice. Litter tray as well (we got one at Lulu). Regardless of what happens to the kittens, please get mum spayed so as to try and stop the cycle. The govt vet does it for free and the other vets will usually give you a discount for strays.

Is there no option for your daughter to stay and finish school in Canberra? I'm sure as an academic you appreciate the rigours of changing school at such a crucial point in her education! I don't know that Doha schools will matchup to the standards you have experienced in Canberra. Please please please make sure you read the other recent thread about moving a 16 year old to Doha.

Living in Doha is not one-size-fits-all, people have different expectations. My advise would be to come with an open mind. Love this!! Something else to consider - are you happy with the quality of her education at present? You might find it easier to make a decision once you have looked at the schools that offer IB to see if they suit your requirements - everyone has different standards and expectations. I know people that have finished school here and done very well - and others that have not - but that is the same everywhere. One other thing to consider - if you are from the UK, leaving your child in the UK to finish school may affect your husband's non-resident status and you should get good tax advice.

It's going to depend on your budget. For a truly serviced apartment, he would need to be in one of the hotel residences, such as the W or Kempinski. I don't know how much they cost but believe they are around the 20,000/month mark. A 2br in Beverly Hills Tower used to be 13,000/month (although prices have probably gone up); they have a fantastic gym and large pool as well as a spa and coffee shop on site. Housekeeping is reasonably priced and he could get them in once or twice a week. There are many towers with facilities though and it's going to depend on what has availability once he arrives. 2 br on thr Pearl are around the same price, and the towers all have good facilities, but it is that bit further out and there are major roadworks around there for the foreseeable future. Property in Al Sadd is cheaper and he would probably find a 2br for 8-10,000. He will need his RP to be able to rent somewhere, and they usually ask for 12 rent cheques up front (so will also need his bank accounts sorted). It will depend on the individual property manager as to whatnrental period they will allow - we have done both yearly and monthly. Check out the Doha Bay Running Club on FB, I believe there are quite a few people in it! He might also be interested in joining the rugby club.

Also keep in mind that only amounts up to £85k per financial institution are protected under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. More info here [url=http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/saving/article-1630421/Savings-compensation-protection-Bank-ownership-licences.html'>link[/url'> Agree with finding a financial advisor who will take account of your non-resident status (or not) whilst evaluating your long term goals and risk profile.

If he's not going to have a car, I would live in West Bay as then you can walk to shops, restaurants and bars (esp if he is here on his own). It is easy to pick up a taxi without needing a private driver. Like Lalala said, the Pearl is more residential although does have shops & restaurants as well. Personally I would hate to live in a flat in Al Sadd, and would only live there if it was a) company provided housing and b) financially my only option - but that said many people would hate to live where i live. My point is everything is subjective and your husband is probably best off seeing for himself and deciding once he gets here :)

I always stay in central Paris and just get the train to Disney as I think the Disney hotels are all massively overpriced (and that's saying something for Paris!) It'a really easy to get there on the train, RER-A line

EW don't really do anything in Doha!! Here is a list from last year - it will probably be updated at some point, but it's a good starting point for you http://iloveqatar.net/forum/read.php?5,22713 The hotels generally have their all day dining restaurants open - there is a list in this month's Time Out. Pretty much all food & Beverage outlets in malls are closed. Last year Bread & bagels in Beach Tower was open for takeaway, don't know about the Pearl. Time Out has a good list of iftars/suhours in the supplement. We like the W and the St Regis.

Can take anywhere between 10-30 mins, depending on time of day. He will have no problem getting a taxi from West Bay - but I'm sure the people he works with will also have driver recommendations once he's here.

As with most things here, it depends. Once your husband has his RP, he may be able to sponsor you straight away, or he may need 6 months worth of bank statements in order to sponsor you - it depends on the company he works for, their influence, and their PRO. Once you have RPs, you also need to be approved to have a maid, and the nationality of the maid will be specified. There are quite a few threads on this process. If your lady is Philippina though, chances are slim you'll be able to bring her in anyway [url=http://dohanews.co/post/53091370238/despite-ambassadors-denial-unofficial-ban-on-new'>link[/url'>
