All the municipality library locations & details are here http://www.dubaipubliclibrary.ae/en/AboutLibrary/Pages/Visitus.aspx :nerd: And to specifically answer your questions: Membership rates for public libraries in Dubai Fortunately Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has some well-stocked public libraries in Dubai (equipped with Arabic and English reading material) which charge a very nominal rate for child, individual, family and corporate membership. Individual and family subscription fee is only AED 60 valid for 5 years besides a refundable security deposit of AED 150 (for individuals) and AED 200 (for families). Child membership (age 1 to 12 years) is free with only a deposit of AED 75. All public libraries have a separate children’s section with a reading hall, activity room and audio-visual facilities. Membership is only for UAE nationals, GCC nationals, [b'>UAE residents [/b'>or UAE registered companies, though visitors to Dubai are welcome to enter a public library to read newspapers, magazines and books on the premises or pay a nominal amount to access the Internet. edited by Tattie Bogle on 08/11/2014

I think that parents who don't teach their children about basic looking after themselves are doing them no favours. Daza (as usual) :shy: I absolutely agree with you. I don't judge those with maids and understand why they have them - but I think it is even more important for boys to learn how to do things for themselves. One day those boys will be grown men with wives, and either expect their wives to do everything for them, or a maid! Those of us with MILs who run around after DH doing everything for them will know exactly what I mean.

I'm a totally different parent for being able to have help. You want to cut up magazines all over the floor? Fine. You want to make cupcakes by yourself and get flour all over the floor? Fine. .. Just because it's Thursday....... (oooh nice new smileys Admin!!!) I am going to disagree with you Guinness. I think the cleaning up of little magazine pieces and getting the brush and shovel out to clean up flour is part of teaching children to tidy up after themselves and that there is NOT always going to be someone coming along behind them to pick up after them. I know there are a lot of people with maids who [i'>do[/i'> teach this to their children, but it's so important to keep them grounded and in the real world - which one day they'll have to get into!

Just keep in mind the POA needs to be renewed every 3 years. Just wanted to update on this as I've just tried to use one which was made in Nov 2012 and it has been refused as 2 years old.

Why don't you do it in a park in the evening? Have a big shawarma delivery or whatever food you like, plenty of budget for a slap up meal and the weather is so lovely.

Hi DollyBird Please don't be scared! I have loads of lumps (12 at the last count!) and most of the time they are just absolutely nothing. It's great that you are getting a double check with a biopsy, but ladies can be very lumpy and most of the time everything turns out to be just fine. Fill your days up with busy things to do until you get the results. xxx

The only chocolate that tastes 'real' without the higher melting point, is the range of Easter Eggs sold here. roll on March! Irn Bru doesn't taste the same either. Apparently it is canned in the M.E. instead of in the UK because of a banned ingredient here. Anyway, if it's not in a glass bottle and made with Scottish water it's rubbish. :D (It's true!). Also will someone please tell chip shops here that chips & cheese has to be made with REAL cheese and not Kraft/plastic cheese.

Just turn the internet off when you are not home, and put it on when you are back and happy for her to be using it. It's quite simple! Internet usage at work for personal use is a perk/privilege and not a right, and that goes for everyone. Some employers trust their employees not to abuse this trust. Some don't, and the right is taken away. Many companies all over the world block the use of FB/other sites etc I just wish I had time!!! :D

I second Musrif Park which is not like the other parks, (manicured and well man made), it is full of tall, foresty type trees and really feels like you are somewhere else. It's always nice and cool there too.

I had the same problem and as soon as I stopped looking i randomly saw some, but can't remember where! As a starting point, check round the warehouses of large supermarkets (for example Spinneys in Al Quoz), you can even ask the guys there or pay them for a couple! You might find some lying around Al Quoz somewhere, in all the industrial areas, that's where I'd look first. Good luck!

Hello Genie Foolnightsleep (EWer) and I are very taken (read obsessed) with our UAE stunt jets, Al Fursan, who fly every morning at 7am, practising hearts and palm trees in the sky. You can see and hear them (usually 6 planes) if you are up the back of Dubai that early in the morning, so on the Bypass Road or at the back of the whole Silicon Oasis/Falcon City/Villa/Skycourts area and the Global Village end of the Ranches. It's a fabulous display every morning and well worth a little breakfast picnic outing! :)

Can i tell you what would happen if I made it myself: 1) spend hours in 3 different supermarkets getting the correct ingredients 2) get flustered as don't have the correct measuring apparatus 3) spend time converting ml to ounces and get it wrong 4) disproportionately mix ingredients together 5) jelly won't set and will be globby mess 6) then spend the same amount time trawling supermarkets to get pre mixed jelly sachets should have got in first place 7) still screw up the measuring jug/ratio/water 8) post on EW looking for somewhere that sells pre-made jelly :D

I have only ever seen the coloured/flavoured kind Tip into a bowl, add cold and hot water, pop in fridge. It isn't that messy for kids to make and this is from a very clumsy individual to whom wearing white and food results in it all over me! Oh it's not the mess SL, it's the reaction to that sort of food colouring - it is not a pleasant scenario!

I believe people who make jams/pickles etc and sell them at Fairs like Arte are covered under Arte's license. Although how it works if someone gets bad food poisoning and reports to Municipality, I'm not sure - who would be liable?

In this picture you can see the running track, and the wooden decking. http://gulfnews.com/polopoly_fs/1.1247558!/image/2737274333.jpg_gen/derivatives/box_475/2737274333.jpg This goes for miles - I have only been from after JBP area up until Burj Al Arab area but it is fairly well connected so far! Between JBP area (including the area in front of the new 4 Seasons hotel) down to Dubai marine it needs an EWer to investigate and see!

Mrs M just go a bit further up until after the closure - the tracks are right the way along the beach. The wooden part I *think* is for cycles. Otherwise, head out to Nad Al Sheba cycle tracks or even Mushrif Park which has miles and miles of cycle tracks.

For clarity: Today, Jumeirah Corniche officially opened. This 14km stretch from between BalA and as far as until Dubai Marine beach closure includes running tracks, kiosks which will eventually serve refreshments, gym areas, etc. There is also wooden decking running along beside the running track which I think is for cyclists (certainly someone was rollerblading on them this morning) but am not sure. Concurrently, Jumeirah Open Beach, which is the area beside the Dubai Marine hotel, has closed while La Mer is being constructed. Hope that makes sense.

Served Rab C Nesbitt in Safeway Served drinks to famous jockeys inc Frankie Dettori etc when they were in town. They would go for saunas before they raced to make them lighter!
