Emirates Road is no longer Emirates Road, it is now Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road. The Bypass Road is no longer Bypass Road, it is now Emirates Road.

That's good news Sals, you haven't been too happy in Doha? What's changed in two years...hmm. Rents are a little higher, traffic is busier, Safa park is dug up all round the outside, JBR is nicer now with restaurants right on the beach, there's a running track right along Jumeirah Corniche from burj al arab to Dubai marine (nearly finished), there's a new Four Seasons hotel on Jumeirah Beach Road beside Dubai Ladies Club, Jumeirah Beach Park is closed, the Metroplitan hotel on SZR has been demolished and there is a new hotel in its place, there are lots of new developments in Jumeirah (City Walk etc) which have sprung up, there's a new Lime Tree Cafe on SZR, in fact probably too many nice new places to mention (Tom&Serg, the Pantry etc), new airport DWC is operational, parking in the Madinat is now paid only, MOE carpark has some construction going on inside, Um Suqeim St is fully open with roadworks finished, the Al Sufouh/Marina tram will start on 11th Nov, you can now go on the RTA ferry from Dubai Marina to Ghubaiba, Geant delivers online orders, there's a new Waitrose in Um Suqeim, Choitrams now has Tesco products. Done for now. :-P

If you want alcohol you may as well do a brunch but other ideas: - picnic on the beach no alcohol, include games/rounders etc - treasure hunt (City wide) maybe stopping for a beer at each location - the new hinthunt thingy (getting out the locked room within an hour) - fishing trip/boat hire for the day - some of the desert safaris that have bbqs include alcohol

It depends what you need an which country it relates to (i.e. if a notary public qualified in your home country could do it, or if you can simply have it stamped by courts here). If you are looking just for a court attestation then there is one next to the RTA building in al barsha, near the G&D park.

No, pretty sure the Atana is new (and dry). If you are planning a Musandam trip and especially on a tour, be aware that there are two sides, the Dibba side is a lovely trip but there are no dolphins and the road is not the stunning coastal road that you drive up when you go to Khasab. Khasab is where the dolphins are, and you pretty much see them on every trip. :) The hotels are limited to Golden Tulip (little bit older but licensed I think, Esra apartments (cheap, dry) basic but fine, Khasab Hotel (dry I think), Atana resort (also dry). Double check but think that's right! You can also do a mountain tour in Khasab which is very interesting as they show fossils in rocks, and see some lovely greenery. LOVE Musandam. :)

Completely illegal. This is such an old school mentality. You are between a rock and hard place though because how do you pursue this without getting "labeled" as the rebellious one right? It is definitely not right but if I was forced to choose between 3k or keeping my passport, considering I will get the money back, I would give the money. I would never want to be without my passport. ANYTHING can happen, especially on weekends when the office is closed. If you want to take it further you can because I am sure it is illegal so the law is on your side. I agree with everything written here. It may be illegal, however it's still quite common especially with lower paid staff in large companies. Personally I'd rather sign away 3000 AED than be without my passport, you never know when you may need it at 8pm on a Thursday night and have to wait until someone answers their phone at 8am on a Sunday morning! the only part I'd disagree with is the last sentence re taking it further. You are still a new employee in the company and you may wish to just do the AED 3,000 thing for a while until you are a bit more settled and have formed a relationship with your manager/HR Dept etc.

Have you tried trying to figure out roughly what time of night these incidents are happening, and then pre-empting them? For example if it's happening at midnight you could wake her up at 11pm when you go to bed, take her then and when she goes back to sleep hopefully that would keep her going for a while. Maybe when she gets into that habit it would then come naturally?

Something has been puzzling me for a while about this diversion, AD bound. The road will come off, closer to Safa Park. and then will come back on to OSZR (Original SZR). Except it can't, because the slip road for Meydan etc is there, with a barrier. So how will it work? We couldn't all drive down to Safa park lights and Uturn? So then the traffic AD bound must merge back in through the slip road traffic but before the barrier? Will that be right?

Most maid agencies do night time babysitting, though you will have to pay a taxi back and probably a slightly higher hourly charge. You can ask for the same lady every time so you get a regular one. That way it's all legal and above board. If you search for 'maid agency dubai' you'll get a trillion hits!

I must be in a different Dubai because I don't see this, yes there are cultural differences with regards to queues etc but I avoid malls etc at super busy times so generally don't see this happening. (and also used the metro this morning during rush hour and it was a perfectly pleasant experience :) ) anyway. with regards to the Etisalat experience, this wouldn't help in this particular situation however in general with anything remotely establishment-y, greeting the person in arabic/having very very basic arabic enough to say [i'>hello, how are you, fine thanks[/i'> is enough to change your experience 100%. It's so much easier then to get a smile and a little bit of banter and having a little bit of small talk for example how busy/quiet it is in there today instead of just sitting in silence will really change your experience:)

I've got quite an old slow cooker, must be about 10 yrs old now and I really dislike the smell. It's great when you walk in and you think 'oooh, great that dinner smells yum' but then you realise it's all in amongst everything. I think maybe I just need a newer one which seals better.
