Great thread. There's also Fidelity Fitness http://www.fidelityfitnessclub.com/fitness/group-exercise though the timetable doesn't seem to be showing for some reason.

Not sure, but there was very heavy traffic this morning on MBZ road and also SZR this afternoon - it may just be normal traffic resuming!

Hi Sue, Well - ours were super dusty so I left them all soaking overnight to find that the water had fermented in the morning - I rinsed again and left them drying out but am not sure what the answer is, I think they are so soft that rinsing them makes them fall apart a bit! Am not sure what moist wiping is but it sounds cumbersome and would have taken hours with ours. As it is it took a looong time picking each one off the twigs. (I think I am very much over being a date-farmer). :D

There was a 5.6 one in Kish, Iran at 5.32am - would that be what was felt here? That's another big one for Iran, hope everyone is ok :( <em>edited by Tattie Bogle on 30/07/2014</em>

Fellow-daters If you are making spicy date pickle, I have just used this recipe and the pickle has a very bitter aftertaste. The amount of cumin seeds/mustard seeds seemed really high so I only used a fraction of what it said, but it is still very bitter. (Even when I use cumin/mustard seeds in Dal they also seem bitter, is it my seeds?!) http://www.erivumpuliyumm.com/2012/12/dates-pickle-eenthappazham-achar.html

It's not near you (though also not as far as you think!) but Mushrif Park and Mamzar Park both have public swimming pools @ 10 AED. There's also the Sheikh Hamdan Swimming Complex which is only about a 10 minute drive from you.

That's not bad actually, thought it would be extortionate but it's the same price as all the others. Are they well supervised though, I always seem to have doubts about that place for some reason!

1. Take Passport/Visa, old DL and a passport photo 2. Visit one of the Opticians which is linked to RTA (Grand, Prime, etc - list on RTA website) 3. have eye test, pay AED 130 4. Test result is uploaded to RTA by optician 5. You'll receive SMS within one hour telling you to collect new license from RTA. :) ETA - I think some of the opticians also have the ability to print the new license but I have not seen it. <em>edited by Tattie Bogle on 28/07/2014</em>

I think the restaurant is open, it usually is. You used to have to be signed in by a member at the Lakes but maybe alternatively you could go to Jumeirah Islands.

Hi, I'm also interested in kitchens/cupboards from Ikea but Ikea don't fit them, or do they? And what do you do with the sides? I had a quote last week from another company but thought it was a bit expensive. <em>edited by Tattie Bogle on 27/07/2014</em>

We are waiting for moon-sighting tonight. If confirmed, Private Sector will be off Mon/Tues. If it is not called tonight it will be Tues/Wed. Many companies though have already made the decision and informed their staff accordingly. It was looking pretty cloudy this morning which may have impacted sightings but it has cleared up now. Eid Mubarak to everyone!

We stayed here http://www.thesienavillage.com/ which I LOVED, it was up in the mountains (beware a 3 hour drive on very bumpy twisty roads!) - soo quiet and cool weather and they come and light fires in your room. Beautiful views and nice for visits to tea plantations etc. We also stayed here http://backwaterripples.com/ which was lovely for backwater views and trips on houseboats etc. (Beware if you are travelling off-season (i.e. now) as a lot of resorts use these times to host big company events - the resort we stayed in was beautiful but had banging disco music from an event that took over the whole hotel until the early hours every night) Also another beware - the packs of spices sold in strips in all the spice shops in kerala have poppy seeds in them - make sure you don't bring them back by mistake!

If she has raised money for charity, and it is not under the umbrella of the 15 or so registered charities which are legally allowed to do this, then she could be in a lot of trouble. According to her pinterest page, she had an 'inter faith' marriage at SZ Mosque, I didn't know this was possible? Also her wedding cake looks very small for 15,500 guests who were invited. Would just about feed 15 I think! Anyway, I wonder if anyone picked the eco-cabin as a gift on the gift register! :-P

She has possibly not even done it as a charity-thing but as a sharing-something-nice-she-made thing? We always receive treats from our neighbours at Iftar time during Ramadan and are very much not Muslim. We reciprocate on Christmas morning and our Hindu neighbours send things round during their festivals too. That's the best thing about being in this melting pot of the UAE - being able to share things with our neighbours of every nationality and faith.

Oh to chew and eat At chicken feet Plus other unmentionables Or dine at hotels fashionable Will multiply the cost of Dubai by factors of ten fold So now you've been told The choice is yours Whether to have sore jaws From chewing on feets and other such treats In order to save some dimes (TB!!fast running out of rhymes...) edited by Sugarbeach on 20/07/2014 There once was a lass who hadn't tried Sind Punjab how sad, she didn't know it was fab though the others coaxed her and said, "just give it a try" she said NO as she thought there'd be chickens' feet a-fry Just go, EW said, you're in for a treat Alas still no she said, afraid of The Feet We've never seen Feet on the menu, they said But still, the EWer shook her head Then one hot day, (it was 50 the car read) young Dally sneaked to Karama not long before bed And filled up her plate with delights so many and when it came to her bill! Hardly a penny! And then she came back to post her delight and to say ne'er a chicken foot had been in sight And to this day if you ask her, where shall we go? To Sind Punjab, she cries! I'm now in the know!

Yeah if you like deep fried chicken feet and other unmentionable and unidentifiable foods, go for it, personally I'd rather go without than eat in some of the "bargain" places. ha! not really. Sind Punjab in Karama proudly display proudly display their Time Out Dubai award for best eatery. :)

Going out normally costs me at least 1K per dinner outing but you can eat out for as low as 250 dirhams for two people, food and soft drink, no alcohol. . Ouch! When we eat out we often go to places where you can have a delicious slap up meal for about 20-30 AED per person!

My DH and many of his associates don't have degrees, they are employed as managers and have contracts reflecting that but their visas state "clerk" or some other such like description. Hasn't caused any problems to date. This may not pose them problems a) because of nationality and b) because they don't travel a lot. If you don't have the word 'Manager' as your visa title and if your nationality is of one which doesn't get visa on arrival to some countries, this can be a problem. OP - I think it will be fine.
