Same with delivery guys. I will NOT tip anyone who miss calls me. End of discussion. I will also tell them that i would have tipped them if they had not missed call me. Nothing to do with tipping but personally I'd never begrudge someone that earns around 700 AED a month a phone call. For all we know the companies don't pay for their calls and it would be awful to think that the money they would have spent on their dinner had gone towards calling ten customers a night asking for directions. I can't think of anything worse than sitting on a motorbike in 50 degree heat and not being paid very much and then facing a cross customer when I finally got there.:(

I think Bourjois do not. But it is a grey area as you'll remember from the Body Shop saga. A company may say they don't test their products on animals, but they may include ingredients which have been tested at some point by someone else. I guess at some point you have to draw the line! http://www.veggieboards.com/forum/60-vegan-support-forum/88549-bourjois-do-they-test.html

Are there any gadgets that I can buy here for a man that likes walking in the hills, for example something with GPS and counts steps etc. I've got him a fitbit tracker thing before, not like that but something that would have like a compass/GPS/gadgety stuff inside as well. Thanks :)

Yes, even if you have two passports you cannot travel out on the other one while your visa is under process (they know!). Correction, you could actually travel on the 2nd (assuming you'd entered on it at some point) but when your visa is being processed in the first passport it would grind to a halt as they would know you are not in the country and your 'status' would therefore be wrong until you re-entered again and you would then have to start again but it involves getting a print from immigration at the airport showing you re-entered if you did not get a stamp in your passport and sometimes even if you did. Not recommended. ;) <em>edited by Tattie Bogle on 16/07/2014</em>

Hi, Port Saeed is a very bustling area of the city and very lively in its own way, but a very different feel of Dubai from other parts of the city. Have you visited this area with a view to living close to DH's work? For alternative community living you could look at somewhere like Shorooq/Mirdif - DH could metro but would still need to taxi back and forward to the metro stations. Is there a reason why both of you won't drive - it's quite normal for one of you not to have a car but for both of you and a baby it might be tricky, bear in mind the heat, waiting around for taxis, safety etc. Welcome in advance!

If you are coming from dubai, take the exit from SZR for um al sheif st, but go round the r-about and go parallel to SZR towards jebel ali, you'll come to the car park on your right. From new dubai, take the manara exit and go down to al wasl road and turn right on to al wasl. Take the first exit on the right and go straight until you get to a junction. It should be right then left then last left from memory but anyway follow signs for the metro and you'll see the centre and car park.

Sam why don't you put a plea up as a separate post to see if anyone could help out with the animals overnight/for a few days. I could possibly help out with one of your dogs if any are small and would get on with another dog!

The charges for the district cooling (before consumption) are 1200-1500 per quarter (i.e. 400-500 per month) If I remember correctly. You'd have to check your contract to see if the LL pays this or you do - it may depend on the LL. <em>edited by Tattie Bogle on 14/07/2014</em>

http://gulfnews.com/business/aviation/charge-electronic-devices-or-risk-missing-your-flight-dubai-international-passengers-told-1.1359175 Does this apply to devices in luggage to go into the hold, or only what you are taking on board with you? The article doesn't say.

ELC have them but they seem to be contraptions that attach to your shoe rather than a shoe with heelies inside. Which might be better anyway as then they don't grow out of them!

I agree that this year hasn't been so bad so far, and that the last few years the summers have been a very dry heat, which is (almost!) bearable especially if you have access to a nice cool pool. But today it is dreadful! :)

Agree and not to mention a pyramid scheme too which has been the subject of an enqury in some countries which is why they are moving towards this region big time. Very interesting. Someone was desperately trying to get me involved in this (obviously as they get commission) but I had huge concerns over the legalities of it. They said that it is all above board to be employed by them as the parent company has a TL at the airport free zone but when I looked in to it (just out of curiosity wasn't actually interested in joining the scheme!) there didn't seem to be any labour cards issued. I felt that the whole scheme is actually absolutely nothing to do with the products - only about this 200 GBP that the person pays when joining up, the starter pack. Then everyone down the line gets a cut of this 200 GBP. Then you get someone else to sign up and they pay the 200 gbp and it just keeps going and going. DH bought some toothpaste from someone at work and it's alright, but out of principle I wouldn't buy any from someone who is working for a company who is trying to fly under the radar and not provide proper docs!

Yorky whose sponsorship are you on? I said DH as I assumed his (sorry!). As your sponsor has to authorise you to have a DL then it is better to get any change signed by the person on the TL if it's a company, and if so you will also need to take a copy of the TL and the passport/visa copy of that person. Better to take everything you can think of :)

Hi Yorky I haven't done this but suggest taking: Letter from DH confirming the change (mentioning PP numbers & DL number) & signed by him Fill out the form again just in case, remember DH has to sign this too (don't think you will need this though) PP Emirates ID I don't think you'll need to do an eye test either. Should be quite a quick procedure.

Make sure you are running taps/flushing toilets even in rooms which are not used - as the water in the pipes becomes stagnant. Doing this a couple of times a week may get rid of it.

I picked up some in Daiso yesterday but they are really long so may not be suitable if your child is younger. (Unless there are children's ones?) Also they are shiny silver/tin foil colour which may not be good if you are trying to be incognito. ;)

Hi, in that area you have all of the Golden Sands and Silver Sands, some closer than others though. They are mostly serviced apartments so will be more expensive. An estate agent that deals with Bur Dubai (all the individual buildings) is Rocky Real Estate. http://www.rockyrealestate.com/

Following thread with interest. I have just inspected mine and they are at the green-turning-orange stage. I'll be making: - spicy date pickle thing that you can get in the Bur Dubai choitrams (think it's locally made and scrumptious) - sticky toffee pudding -date jam -some sort of christmas chutney thing (will it keep from now until then??)
