It's time for the summer clear out jobs and I have boxes of old artwork/other bits and bobs. How do you store it all as memories so they are nice to look back at in later years? I've looked for the 'scrapbooks' that we used to get in days of yore but now they seem much smaller and mostly for stickers etc. Where does nice big scrapbooks, or any other ideas? Thanks :)

My first question to you would be why are you continuing to give her 2 days off? If she has not done her duties during her working week then she forgoes one of her days off doing all the jobs she hasn't managed to do. You will probably find that the following week her duties are back up to speed!

I heard on the radio it said rain on Saturday but when I checked GN it was just a month of "sunny...warm...very warm...bright sunshine..." etc. Yesterday it really felt like it could rain. Maybe...just maybe....!

It is relatively easy as a lot of taxis hang out in these areas. However you can also try using a private company like www.careem.com or even if you have a good taxi driver take his mobile number and give him a ring to see if he is in the area.

I'd like to think that this board is predominantly helpful, supportive women all just getting on with things but some days with the amount if ridiculous thumbs downs it feels like it's just full of petty, sad, nasty trolls revelling in the chance to take people down a peg if two behind a cloak of anonymity. I suspect the thumbs down would be used a lot less if it was possible to see who was doing it. Yep, yep, and yep again! I think some people have way too much time on their hands!

Sue I also need to know this and have no idea. The dates on the trees on the road look dark brown but the ones in our garden are not. Do we wait until they are brown?

Part time work does exist, you just have to network, network, network. Being here all year round helps, the jobs which have long summer holidays are mostly education based. Embassy jobs are also good (2 on EW Job page now 7.30-2.30, not part time as such but sort of fits with school hours). You can also negotiate part time hours/job share/working from home for 3 hours a day etc - just wing it with your employer - sell yourself and your plan. It's better for themfinancially and for their business to retain you. I've worked less than full time hours for 7.5 years, with different employers - it's doable and out there, you'll find it! :)

Dubai does have natural gas so it is possible that we are just getting a whiff on the breeze. I have smelled it twice over the last year and we are pretty far out of the city.

I'm veggie and have no issues cooking meat for my family and do this daily. I also have no issues in going to someone's house for dinner and only having the side veg or whatever for dinner as I don't like to make a huge thing about telling them in advance and having them cook something else. Though sometimes it backfires as they get flustered for not knowing and then it's worse. It depends on the situation! I will however NOT be offering to gut a fish for DH when he gets back from a fishing trip EVER again. :-P

Firstly, keep a food diary. Painkillers put a lot of pressure on our kidneys so it is better to get to the root cause and try and eliminate them. There are a LOT of migraine triggers. Migraines are caused by blood vessels expanding in your brain and there is a naturally occurring substance in food which can trigger this, for example my triggers are spinach, aged cheese, yogurts, quorn, some seeds etc. It only takes a few weeks of a food diary to figure out what is causing yours and limiting that food. If you do get a migraine, it is best then to take something with brufen (or a specific migraine tablet) as they reduce the swelling of the blood vessels - tablets like panadol won't work.

Another vote for Careem (who now operate in Bahrain, Qatar, KSA and UAE) - often use them for full/half day bookings.

I think it very much depends on your home arrangements, I work and don't have a maid and tried for the first couple of years with the 2 x PE & 3 x Uniform arrangement and was just stressing myself out and rushing around like a headless chicken in the mornings! So now I have about 5 of everything and do all the laundry at the weekend (or even if we go away for the weekend I still don't need to stress!) and it's much better. So it maybe depends if you have a maid then it wouldn't be so much of an issue. Also for budgeting, if your school has white tshirts and plain coloured shorts these can often be bought much cheaper in C4/Marks & Spencer, or if you know anyone going to the UK then Asda/Tesco have a good selection.

Nice post LadyB. I think it's also good to be culturally aware of where some of these guys are from. They may be from a mountainous village where they have never in their whole lives seen a lady out on her own before, let alone uncovered, let alone with her knees showing or let alone in a bikini! We live in the sort of place that throws one end of the scale together with the other. So as much as they can learn that in our culture we flash our elbows willy-nilly, so to speak, we should also learn that in their culture they may have only seen a lady's elbow in an x rated movie! Maybe they are staring because they think you look like a movie star. :)

Many people prefer live in maids as live-out maids have more opportunity to work (illegally) part time or do other dubious things! Which subject you to a huge fine at the least. If you only require a maid for a few hours a day it may be better for you to organise a daily maid from an agency for a monthly fee - this can often be negotiated.

We budgeted 3.5k and ours has never been anywhere near that....I think more expensive than a pool is grass so if you can replace that with paving and some nice side plants that need less watering then you save a lot. There are so many factors that it's hard to compare i.e. - does your house have central a/c or split a/c -how many rooms does the a/c cover -do you have a maid home during the day -do you use a tumble drier -how often do you use your washing machine -how many water heaters do you have on -do you have grass & how often is it watered -do you have a gardener who is coming and pouring water out of a hose (even washing next door's car!) while you are not home -is your pool leaking so your pump is automatically filling it up and you are not noticing -how many bedrooms are you running a/c in at night etc. So it's very difficult to compare even two houses next door to each other which may have completely different lives going on inside!

Thanks - I'm wondering though when they come off the tree (they are green now turning slightly orange) - and what I do with them between taking them off the tree and making something? I've seen recipes for raw date pickle but want to leave them until they are sweet and then do half jam and half pickle, but am not sure what I do with them when they come off the tree!? Do they get wrapped in newspaper/left in the sun and for how long? thanks
